Chapter 13
The day had finally come. It was the day of the final Chunin Exam test, the grand tournament. Naruto had arrived at the arena where the tournament was being held. She was a little bummed out that she wasn't a part of the tournament but she was still happy for those who made it through the exams like Ino and Neji. As Naruto was walking to her seat she saw Sakura and walked over to sit by her teammate.
"Hey Sakura." Naruto said.
Naruto still remembered how Sakura and Sasuke abandoned her in the forest but they were still her teammates and Sakura did apologize for abandoning her and wanted to mend her relationship with Naruto. Sasuke on the other hand she hadn't seen since the forest thus she had no clue how he felt.
"Oh hey Naruto." Sakura said. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing good. I've been training with my godfather." Naruto replied.
"Godfather? I thought you were an orphan." Sakura said, a little confused.
"Sakura even orphans have parents. Those parents just happen to be dead and yes I have a godfather. Apparently my father was the student of Jiraiya of the Sannin and made him my godfather." Naruto explained. surprised Sakura could be so clueless.
"Cool, I haven't seen Sasuke-kun since we left the forest. I think he said something about going for some secret training with Kakashi-sensei." Sakura said.
Naruto sighed hearing that Kakashi was giving special training to Sasuke while basically leaving Sakura and herself to fend for themselves. While Naruto managed to get some special training form Jiraiya she knew that had it not been for her godfather she wouldn't have been able to get the training she needed and deserved. Naruto was pretty sure it wasn't Kakashi's fault the Council had more power than they really should have.
"Any idea where they went to train?" Naruto asked.
"No I don't." Sakura replied.
"Yo." came Kakashi's voice from behind the two girls.
"Oh hay Kakashi-sensei." Naruto said with a smile on her face.
"Hi Kakashi-sensei. Where is Sasuke-kun?" Sakura asked.
"He's somewhere around here." Kakashi said lazily.
"I still don't know what you see in him." Naruto said.
"I don't have to justify what I like about Sasuke-kun to you, Naruto." Sakura said firmly. "I swear even though you are a girl you still think like a boy."
"Remember when I said I might be gay?" Naruto asked.
"Yea but what's that got to do with anything?" Sakura replied with her own question.
"Well I like girls thus I am a lesbian meaning I'm gay." Naruto explained to her teammate.
"Well I'm not so don't try hitting on me." Sakura threatened.
"Trust me you're not my type." Naruto said.
Before anything else could be said the proctor for the third exam walked into the center of the arena.
"Welcome one and all, honored guests, friends, and family." The proctor was Shiranui Genma, a tokubetsu jonin.
Naruto was excited to see the eight contestants of the third and final exam of the Chunin Exams. Among them were two of her friends Yamanaka Ino and Hyuga Neji. Naruto knew she was gay and she knew who she wanted but she knew her crush only had eyes for Sasuke just like Sakura did.
"The first match of the Third exam of the Chunin Selection Exams is between Nara Shikamaru and Temari of Sunagakure no Sato. all other contestants please go to the contestant area and wait for your match." Genma called out.
"Shika better not hold back." Naruto said out loud.
"What do you mean Naruto?" Sakura asked.
"Shika is a great tactician and is really smart but he is so lazy he never goes all out." Naruto explained.
Shikamaru looked at Temari with a rather bored expression on his face.
"What a drag I have to fight a woman. Oh well let's make this quick." Shikamaru grumbled to himself.
"Are both contestants ready?" Genma asked looking to both Shikamaru and Temari.
"Ready." Temari said opening her fan.
"Ready." Shikamaru said with a yawn.
"Begin!" Genma called out loudly.
Shikamaru instantly jumped back away from Temari throwing three shuriken at his opponent. Temari swung her fan using her wind chakra to blow the shuriken away and smirked.
"Is that all you have?" Temari taunted.
"Not quite." Shikamaru said from behind Temari.
Temari tried to look behind her but she found she couldn't move.
"How?" Temari asked.
"It was easy really, when I threw the shuriken I cast a genjutsu that made you think I was in front of you when in reality I moved behind you and captured you with my shadow." Shikamaru explained before raising his hand forcing Temari to do the same. "I'm done, I forfeit the match." Shikamaru said.
Temari was shocked. "But why? You could have made me do anything." Temari asked.
"Simple really anything I make you do I have to do to myself and I rather not hurt myself just to get you to hurt yourself and forfeit." Shikamaru explained. "That and I have no way to defeat you other than use my shadow to capture you and make you do whatever I do."
"Winner by Forfeit, Temari." Genma called out. "Will Aburame Shino and Kankuro of Sunagakure no Sato please come to the center of the arena please."
"Stick to the plan, Kankuro, don't reveal the secrets of your puppets until the invasion." Gaara said.
"I forfeit the match Proctor." Kankuro called from the waiting area.
"Winner by forfeit Aburame Shino." Genma called. "Will Hyuga Neji and Gaara of Sunagakure no Sato please report to the center of the arena."
Gaara walked down to the arena as did Neji. Once in the center of the arena Genma looked to both contestants.
"Are both contestants ready?" Genma asked.
"Ready." Neji said.
"Ready." Gaara said.
"Begin!" Genam called out.
Neji instantly rushed Gaara using his juken to try and close Gaara's chakra pathways however he couldn't get past Gaara's sand defense. Neji jumped back away from Gaara so as not to get trapped by the sand.
Naruto was watching the fight between Neji and Gaara. "Damn that sand of his reacts to every attack as if it has a mind of its own."
Suddenly white feathers began to descend upon the arena.
"Genjutsu." Naruto said instantly breaking the jutsu.
All around the arena various ninja could be seen breaking the genjutsu while other ninja discarded their robes to reveal Suna and Oto hitai-ate. Naruto could sense these ninja were a threat and growled subconsciously.
In the center of the arena Gaara had fallen prey to the genjutsu and fell asleep. Once Gaara was asleep a sinister chakra could be felt surrounding him as sand began to pour out from his gourd and form into a large construct.
"Yes I'm free and there is so much prey around." the creature spoke laughing.
Naruto saw the construct and growled again. The construct felt just like the Kyubi.
"Naruto, that's Shukaku the Ichibi." Came the Kyubi's voice inside Naruto's mind.
"Kyubi? Ok how do we beat him?" Naruto asked.
"Wake up the host. On the top of Shukaku's head is the host. Wake him and Shukaku will be forced back into the seal." explained the Kyubi.
Naruto rushed forward toward the center of the arena with her objective in mind. However she was cut off by two Oto nin.
"Sorry girly but we can't have you interfering with our secret weapon." one of the oto nin said.
Naruto sighed and rushed the ninja striking him once in the chest then used her Shunshin to get behind him and struck him again in the same spot the seals activated and the man was killed, the body being destroyed in the process. Naruto then turned to the second ninja who had witnessed her kill his partner with ease, however the man refused to back down because he feared Orochimaru more. The man rushed Naruto who ducked under the attack and struck the man in the chest then she got behind the man and struck him again killing him as well.
Naruto resumed her way to the arena where many Konoha Ninja were trying to keep Shukaku at bay though they weren't fairing very well. As Naruto reached the arena she finished the hand seals for the Kuchiyose no Jutsu and bit her thump slamming her palm down on the ground and summoned Bunta with Naruto now on his head.
"So I get to fight another one of you, how ironic." Bunta said as he stared down Shukaku.
"You're no match for me, toad." Shukaku said laughing.
"Let's see about that." Bunta said drawing his sword.
"It's Minato-sama's summon but how is this possible?" a random ninja asked.
"Bunta, I need you to get me as close to his head as possible. I need to wake up the host." Naruto explained to the Toad Chief.
"I can do that much. Can you use your henge to turn me into something with teeth and claws?" Bunta asked.
"Yea I can do that." Naruto said and made a single hand seal. "Henge!"
In an instant Bunta was transformed into the Kyubi who then attacked Shukaku. However when Bunta got a grip on Shukaku the sand made body began to give way making Bunta sink into the sand.
"Ahahaha. You can't use a simple Henge and use Kurama's form to attack me. I am the sand." Shukaku laughed.
As Bunta sank into the sand the sand got tighter making it harder for Bunta to move.
"Naruto you're going to have to jump, I can't move any closer." Bunta said trying to free himself from the sand. "Make a running jump you have to wake the host."
"Got it Bunta." Naruto said as she ran down Bunta's back to give herself a runway to get a decent running start.
As Naruto ran down Bunta's back Naruto remembered that Tsunade of the Sannin could focus her chakra to give her massive strength Naruto was thinking that if she used chakra she might beagle to give herself the boat she needed to reach the head of Shukaku. Naruto knew her chakra control wasn't the greatest and she had no way of knowing how much chakra she needed but she focused her chakra just a tiny amount and ran up Bunta's back once she was on his head again she jumped. Once in the air she then applied her chakra to try and stick to Shukaku which as she touched the sand she clung to the surface using her chakra much like she would use the tree exercise.
Naruto then ran up the side of the tailed beast at an increased speed. Once she reached the head she saw Gaara sleeping completely unguarded. Naruto didn't waste any time, she rushed forward and punched Gaara as hard as she could, waking the red head.
When Gaara came to he saw Naruto still in a fighting stance the sand that made Shukaku's body fell abort making a large dune of sand with Naruto and Gaara on top.
"You woke me?" Gaara asked the blonde before him surprised she was able to wake him from the genjutsu.
"I did you have two choices: surrender or fight." Naruto said as she took a fighting stance.
Gaara lifted his hand and some of the sand rushed Naruto who disappeared from view causing Gaara to stop the sand. Naruto then appeared behind Gaara and kicked him, sending him flying off the sand dune. However sand rose from the dune and caught Gaara before he could hit anything solid.
Gaara rose to his feet on a small floating pile of sand and glared at Naruto. "You're fast, faster than my sand but no matter, I will kill you."
"Naruto, use my chakra to even the playing field." the Kyubi said.
"Ok Kyubi." Naruto said to the Kyubi.
Naruto closed her eyes only for a moment as she drew on the Kyubi's chakra. Instantly a sinister red chakra enveloped Naruto forcing her onto on fours with a single tail of red chakra swayed dangerously behind her.
"Y-You're like me but why fight for a village that hates you?" Gaara asked.
"You're right they do hate me. But I found people who see me for who I am, as Uzumaki Naruto, not the Kyubi. And your attack on Konoha threatens them therefore I will not hold back fighting against you." Naruto explained.
"Everyone in Suna hates me so I fight for myself." Gaara said, feeling his anger rise up inside him.
"Not everyone hates you. I can feel your sister's chakra and she is worried about you; she doesn't want me to hurt you." Naruto told Gaara. "But I won't let you harm my friends or those in my village."
Gaara looked to Temari and saw her watching his battle with Naruto with worry in her eyes. Gaara saw fear in her eyes not fear of him though, no it was fear for him.
"I'm a weapon that's all I ever was, it's all my father wanted me for." Gaara said with a sigh closing his eyes the sand began to move once again but it wasn't moving to attack no Gaara was collecting it back into his gourd. "Uzumaki Naruto, I surrender myself to you."
Just as Gaara surrendered the Oto nin sounded the retreat because Orochimaru had been defeated and was calling the retreat. This confused Gaara because assumed his father was leading the attack. Just then Baki Gaara's Jonin Team Leader arrived.
"Suna has been deceived, the Kazekage was actually Orochimaru. Apparently Orochimaru killed the real Kazekage and assumed his identity." Baki explained to Gaara.
"Then there is no reason for Suna to keep fighting Konoha." Gaara said "Make sure every Suna Nin knows the truth and urge them to surrender to Konoha if they haven't already retreated."
"Yes Gaara-sama." Baki said bowing to Gaara.
"Naruto I will return to Suna with the rest of the Suna shinobi and we will work on a new treaty with Konoha after a new Kazekage is appointed. As one of the former Kazekage's sons I will try to become Kazekage and follow your lead and fight for others." Gaara said.
"I Believe in you Gaara you have potential as a great leader." Naruto said with a smile as she let the Kyubi's chakra fade and her features return to normal.
When Naruto returned to normal Temari approached Naruto and Gaara.
"Temari I am sorry for how I treated you and Kankuro forgive me." Gaata said plainly.
"It's ok Gaara I forgive you." Temari said. "Let's go home."
As the remaining Suna Nina all retreated from Konoha, Kakashi approached Naruto and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You did good, Naruto." Kakashi said. "However I'm afraid I have some bad news."
"What is it Kakakshi-sensei?" Naruto asked.
"Hokage-sama died in his battle with Orochimaru." Kakashi said solemnly.
Naruto's eyes widened and tears formed at the corners of her eyes. "Jiji no."
Naruto dropped to her knees as tears fell from her eyes on one could deny how close Naruto and Sarutobi Hiruzen were they all knew just how fond the old kage was of Naruto and how much Naruto cared for Hiruzen. Kakashi knelt down beside Naruto and held her as she openly cried for her grandfather figure.
