This is my first time writing a Harry Potter fic so... please don't judge, also I'm going to try and keep it in 3rd person which I've never done successfully so I apologize if I screw that up as well!
Harry left Charms in a foul mood. Someone's cheering charm had missed its mark and ended up hitting him at the same time as another cheering charm that was sent from Hermione. The result of the two charms had left Harry smiling so wide his jaw hurt to the point he thought he did damage to his jaw somehow.
"Harry it's possible you sprained your jaw. Maybe you should head to the hospital wing. Ron and I will meet you in the common room after so we can get dinner," Harry clenches his jaw in frustration making a wave of pain wash over him. He hated going to the hospital wing. Hermione who was keeping a close eye on Harry rolls her eyes when she sees him clench his jaw and points to his face.
"Fine, but don't expect me right after. It's a nice day so I'm going to go for a walk."
Parting ways with Hermione and Ron left Harry feeling light. Harry loved his best friends but sometimes they were a right pain in the arse. Noticing how warm it was in the corridors and seeing the bright sun through the window, Harry rakes his robes off leaving him in a white collared shirt and black pants. He loosens his tie and rubs his jaw feeling where it's most tender. His thoughts drift to the detention he had to attend with Snape later. His sixth year was supposed to be an easy year with little to no stress, but he should have known better. As long as Voldemort was alive and Snape still teaching his life would never be easy.
Harry enters the hospital wing to find it organized and surprisingly empty. Thinking he had to find Madam Pomfrey himself, Harry wonders towards her office hoping she was there and willing to let him go without too big a fuss. Madam Pomfrey's office door was slightly ajar allowing Harry to look in it without announcing his presence.
"You know how the Headmaster is Severus. He'll never take a pain potion unless forced and we both know I can't say no to him, so you have to give it to him," Harry's mind went over the new information. Why would Professor Dumbledor be needing a pain potion? Deciding to stow the new knowledge away for later Harry knocks on the door making his presence known.
Snape opens the door and sneers when he sees it's Harry.
"What did you do this time Potter?" Snape's voice is low and demeaning.
Deciding he's still in a foul mood Harry lets his temper flare, "Nothing that should concern you, sir," Snape raises an eyebrow obviously understanding his tone and opens his mouth to speak, but Harry wasn't finished, "now if you'll excuse me I need to speak with Madam Pomfrey." Harry sidesteps and turns his body to make it clear he wants Snape to leave and he hopes he does soon. All this talking was making his jaw ache.
"Mr. Potter, what on earth gives you the right to speak to Professor Snape in that way?" Snape smirks upon hearing Harry get told off by the matron.
Harry puts his head down looking ashamed. Not for being rude to Snape, but for being caught by another adult. "I don't know what came over me Madam, but I require your service and would prefer if Professor Snape would leave." Harry looked back up to see Madam Pomfrey nod, obviously satisfied with Harry's apology.
"If you will do as I asked Professor Snape that will be all. Thank you again." She hands Snape a vial of what Harry assumes is a pain potion and then shifts her attention to Harry.
"What seems to be the problem?" Madam Pomfrey asks. Letting her eyes scan his body checking for any visible injuries.
"We were working on mass cheering charms in class, you know the ones that not only affect the person the spell hit but those around them to a lesser effect? Anyways, I was hit by two of them simultaneously and Hermione thinks I've sprained my jaw." Explaining what was wrong was a literal pain but, Madam Pomfrey was nodding her head in understanding.
"That would explain your attitude with Professor Snape. People tend to get agitated and depressed after strong cheering charms wear off, make it two cheering charms and it'll be even worse." While Madam Pomfrey was speaking she was waving her wand in quick successions trying to make a quick diagnosis.
"It would seem that Miss Granger was correct. You've sprained your jaw. I'm going to give you a mild pain potion and unfortunately, these sprains are best healed without magic. I recommend mashed potatoes for your dinner and pudding for dessert. It will probably hurt to talk for a couple of days so be wary of that. Also, try and explain to your friends that you'll most likely be moody for a couple of days. After you finish this you're free to go."
Harry quickly downs the potion says thank you and leaves the hospital wing as fast as possible. Deciding he still wanted to take a walk Harry heads down a staircase and without warning the staircase moves. Swearing under his breath Harry gets off the staircase to see where it had taken him. The echoing of voices leaders him further down the corridor and to the right where he sees a small crowd of people surrounding Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley.
Harry edges closer, listening closely to the words being said hoping for the first time, that Draco was being a slimy git so he could stir some trouble without feeling guilty for it later.
"Go back home weasel a blood traitor such as yourself shouldn't even be allowed in my presence," Harry slips past the crowd ready to defend Ginny but stops at the sound of Ginny's smooth voice.
"At least I have the brains to choose to be a blood traitor! Your lack of brain has you following your pompous father into the darkest corners of the wizarding world to just get caught and thrown in Azkaban!" Harry stares at Ginny wide-eyed. Did Ron tell Ginny about his accusations of Draco becoming a Death Eater?
"You wouldn't know a choice if you saw one, you stupid girl! All you do is follow Potter around blindly getting people killed!" Harry sees red at the mention of Sirius. He's heard enough. Harry stomps to the middle of the now formed circle, placing himself slightly in between Draco and Ginny.
"Oh and here he is now!" Draco smirks.
"If you say one more insult about anyone I care about, you'll pay Malfoy!"
"Looks like the weasel has more than just blood traitor brothers to protect her, she's also got her little crush Potter." The Slytherins in the crowd laugh and jest from behind Draco.
"She doesn't only have me and her brothers, she has the rest of Gryffindor too. And don't for a minute even think about calling her a blood traitor when you happen to be a traitor to the good of wizarding kind."
Ginny shoves Harry to the side albeit unkindly and glares at not only Draco but at Harry as well. Harry stares at her bewildered. Why would she shove him when all he was trying to do was protect her? Can't she see that he cares about her? Maybe a bit more than he should?
"You Draco can go die in those filthy dungeons you call home and maybe take a shower first. I'd hate to have the people who bury you also end up with the unpleasant experience of smelling you." Draco scoffs.
Ginny redirects her glare on Harry. "And you can piss off! I can take care of myself, Harry! The fact that you showed up made this whole situation worse don't you think?" Draco snickers and Ginny turns so fast Harry doesn't know what's happening anymore. DIdn't he say he wanted to get in a fight earlier? Well not with Ginny he didn't he reminds himself. She pushes forward and points her wand threateningly at Draco.
"I don't want to hear another peep out of you, so you might as well bugger off!" Not done ranting she turns on her heel back towards Harry, getting dangerously close.
There's a fire in her eyes that makes Harry involuntarily shiver. Goosebumps spread over Harry's arms and he regrets taking his robes off after charms. He felt exposed in his white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows his Gryffindor red and gold tie loose around his neck.
"You will need to learn that I can take care of myself and don't need or want your help. So you can stop acting like a noble git who looks too dang good in his school uniform and go before I hex you!" Harry's mind is a whirlwind of thoughts. His first thought is why is she so angry at me? The second thought is to keep his mouth shut before he ends up exploding at Ginny who didn't do anything wrong. His third and final thought is, I have never been more turned on in my life.
Unfortunately, Ginny's right, and Harry is a git so instead of leaving like she asked he fumes and his hands turn to fists at his side. Refusing to pull out his wand and pointing it at the girl that he not only fancies but also the girl he considers a part of his family, so he yells instead.
"Don't point your wand at me Gin! I know you can handle yourself just fine, but it never hurts to have a bit of help sometimes!" Her wand lowers, but the air surrounding them seems to cackle with magic.
"That's real rich coming from you Harry. If I needed someone's help I would have asked Colin Creevey or Demelza. Not you." Ginny's words stung Harry and his anger grew.
"What would they have been able to do? I guess Colin could tell you to smile and take a picture! Oh, and Demelza could stand behind you while you get insulted by scum and then offer to take a lap with you at the quidditch pitch when said scum is finished hurting you!"
"You're right they would do that because they know I don't need somebody to come in acting like a self-absorbed hero who wants some extra attention from a bloody awful seeker named Cho Chang!" At this point in the argument, they were chest to chest screaming at one another as if there were silencing charms put up around the other person making it impossible for the other to hear.
"I don't care about Cho Chang! I care about you, Ginny! You don't see me defending her when she gets insulted or picked on! You don't see me making an effort to smile at her in between classes! You don't see me staring at her during quidditch! You don't see me at all!" The crowd around Harry and Ginny grew but stayed silent, the two people in the middle oblivious to the growing crowd.
"You think I don't see you? You don't think I noticed that ever since Sirius died you push yourself harder than ever? Working out in hopes that the next time you find yourself in a dangerous situation nobody will die? You don't think I noticed the dark circles under your eyes from lack of sleep? Do you think I'm oblivious to the fact that you have scars on your hand with the words I must not tell lies on your hand from that whore Umbridge? If anything you don't see me!"
Minerva McGonagall tries pushing her way through the crowd to see the commotion, but Ginny's last sentences bring a fault to her step and she's just another person in the crowd waiting for either Harry or Ginny to give.
"I know I'm not sly so you're bound to have noticed my staring since this last summer! Not seen you? Are you kidding me, Ginny? The only people who could have not seen you must be blind! You capture the attention of everyone in the room and you keep their attention with ease. Boys either stare, flirt, or insult you. There's only one exception and that's me! I sit on the sidelines and watch. Because I see you all too well."
The silence in the corridor is overwhelming and Harry finally seems to realize. Harry blushes and takes a step back from Ginny. His anger dissipates and he's left empty. It's exactly how he felt when he returned to Hogwarts at the end of his fifth year. Empty. He can't believe he yelled at Ginny, he let his anger get the best of him and ruined any chance he had with Ginny.
Ginny was so confused that she spun on her heel and started to leave. She refused to cry in front of all these people and she knew they would come at any second. One second he's acting like a protective older brother and the next second he sounds like a whiny boyfriend!
McGonagall unfroze and walked toward Harry cautiously. Madam Pomfrey had told her about Harry's incident in charms and knew he was a loose cannon. What she wasn't expecting to see when she reached the middle of the crowd was Harry with his head down looking like he was going to cry. Deciding to give him a moment to collect himself she turned and told everyone to leave to get ready for dinner.
As the last few people left Minerva walked towards Harry who was now leaning against a wall. Harry had his hands in his pockets and was waiting for the detention he was about to receive for making such a fuss in the corridor.
"Harry, I want you to know that making a large scene in the corridor is unacceptable. This is first a school and as such quiet is needed. 5 points from Gryffindor. Second I wanted to tell you how much you and Ginny remind me of your father and mother. They would argue all the time. I probably took over 150 points just from their arguing. I don't know what is going on between you and Ginny, but what I do know is that if you care for her like you say you do, then you will forget about who's right and who's wrong so you can be with her."
Harry listened silently. McGonagall was right. He needed to do something about this. Harry mumbled a quick thank you and sprinted down the corridor in hopes to find Ginny. He ran about 20 steps before he realized he had no idea where he was or where Ginny would be. Harry doubted she would have gone back to the common room. After 6 years at Hogwarts, he still has the ability to get lost. He scoffs at himself.
Harry stood still and turned to the wall. He knew that the castle was magical he knew it sometimes had a mind of its own so with hope and desperation at the forefront of his mind he said, "I need to find Ginny."
Nothing happened. He could always run to his dorm to find the marauders map, but he wanted to find her now. Desperate, because for once in his life Harry wanted something truly for himself he says, "Take me to Ginny," If someone saw him they probably thought he was crazy, but he didn't care.
By some miracle, the wall opened and a passageway with lit candles appeared. Harry didn't waste any time, he just went. Harry ran out into an open corridor turning right on instinct and by some miracle ran right into Ginny, literally.
Ginny grunts when she hits the floor. Not knowing who slammed into her Ginny quickly rolls and points her wand at her unknown assailant. She didn't know if she was happy it wasn't a Death Eater or upset because it was Harry. Deciding that although she was feeling minor relief the overwhelming feeling of anger was still there.
"Can't you just leave me alone Harry? Can you see that I'm angry and don't want to be near you?" Ginny glares at Harry, who's still on the floor. She spins on her heel planning on walking until she forgot everything. Everything meaning Harry, Draco, School, even Voldemort.
"Ginny I'm sorry." She pauses midstep. "I shouldn't have jumped in automatically thinking you would need my help. I should have offered my silent support until you asked me to interfere. I want you to understand me though. You mean a great deal to me and my first instinct will always be to jump right into your defense and it won't be because I think you're incapable of taking care of yourself it will be because I can't physically standstill with the thought of you being hurt in any way."
Gathering every ounce of Gryffindor courage he had he continues, "If my speech didn't make it obvious, I fancy you, Ginny. A lot, and I physically ache for you all the time. And now that I've said all of that and completely embarrassed myself I'm going to leave." Harry turned away from Ginny bright red and embarrassed at his speech. He wanted Gryffindor courage, not Slytherin idiocy.
Ginny was reeling with information overload. She felt like someone caught her with a stunner. Without coming up with any sort of plan Ginny let her emotions and instinct take over.
"WHAT THE HELL! HARRY JAMES POTTER YOU TURN AROUND THIS INSTANT!" If any of the portraits in the corridor were previously sleeping they weren't now. Harry turned around slowly. She sounded royally pissed off.
"You can't tell me you fancy me and then walk away you git!" Ginny stomped right up to Harry and as soon as their eyes met Ginny's anger melted. Brave, noble, and powerful Harry Potter looked scared.
"Ron told me that you said and I quote I like her like a little sister," Harry starts to laugh making Ginny narrow her eyes at him, "What is so funny to you? Are my feeling some sort of game to you?" Harry's laughter stops abruptly.
"First off, did you not hear my speech back there? Of course, your feelings matter! In fact, they matter more to me than anyone else's feelings. Second, I was laughing because I told Ron I liked you as a little sister because he caught me staring at you during quidditch practice," Ginny stares at him and tries to keep herself from smiling at the thought of him staring at her during quidditch.
"Why not tell him the truth?" Ginny asks.
"You want me to tell your older brother that I find you incredibly sexy when you play quidditch? You want me to tell him that I don't care a buttload about chaser formations like I said I did but instead tell him I just like to stare at your arse? You want me to tell Ron of all people that I can't seem to take my eyes off of his little sister?
"Excuse me?" Ginny was maybe expecting a compliment saying she was pretty, not the onslaught Harry just gave...
"I don't know what else you want me to say! You want me to be honest with you? I want to kiss you so badly sometimes I ask Hermione about her latest S.P.E.W developments to distract me. I daydream about having my way with you on Professor McGonagall's desk. I want to touch and feel every inch of your skin. I want you-"
Harry didn't get to finish as Ginny grabs his tie and yanks him down covering his mouth with her own in a scorching kiss. Ginny bites his lower lip then pulls it into her mouth sucking it. Harry makes a low growling noise in the back of his throat and pushes the robes off Ginny's body. He unticks her white shirt and slides his hand under to feel her skin wishing they were somewhere more private. Ginny arches her back into him and pulls the hair at the nape of his neck before she slides her hand into his hair, loving the silky strands. She tears her lips away from his and leaves a trail of open mouth kisses down his neck stopping at the fabric of his white shirt and going back up to his lips.
Harry is living in one of his fantasies he decides. When her lips meet with his own again he slides his hand down to cup her arse and lifts her up wanting her pressed as close as physically possible. He walks them to the wall and presses her against it using the extra leverage to kiss and nip at her neck. Ginny lets out a soft moan and Harry knows he's hard and needs to do something about it. Harry lessens his grip on Ginny and lets her slide a bit lower so she's pressed over the bulge in his pants before he tightens his hold on her once more. "Gin," he calls out lowly. Ginny must understand because she slowly rocks her hips and she must be feeling the same as Harry because her head goes back in pleasure, "Harry," she breathes.
A throat clears behind them and their actions come to a close as Harry slowly lets Ginny back on the ground and turns around to find Professor McGonagall there. Harry and Ginny both go bright red. Ginny is quickly retucking her shirt and Harry puts his hand in his pockets hoping to stretch his pants in a way that will make his current predicament less obvious.
Looking at Harry Minerva says, "I probably took over 200 points for when they would make up for their arguments. 5 points from Gryffindor. Oh, and Potter, if I find out that you got Miss Weasley pregnant there will be hell to pay not house points." McGonagall walks away with a knowing smile. She saw James and Lily doing the exact same things all over the castle. She's just glad she found Harry with their clothes mostly intact.
I hope you all enjoyed the story! For those of you who read that also like Percy Jackson go ahead and look at my other stories!
