Book II of my overall Mass Effect novelization. Having been pulled from her duty station on Luna, Commander Jane Shepard is drafted aboard the SSV Normandy SR1 for a mission that was supposed to be an easy covert pick up on the surface of Eden Prime. But what she finds on the surface will not only change her life, but the lives of everyone in the galaxy.

Years after the Reapers, Garrus and Shepard still cope with the past.

Commander Shepard is the sole survivor with a synthetic sole, among other augmentations due to the Akuze incident. She's suppressed her emotions and ignored persuasions to retire in her willingness to continue her tour of duty, relying on medication to help with her nightmares and the phantom pains that have persisted. People think it's determination. It's just a distraction.

The galaxy has been shattered. A malevolent foe has achieved what the Reapers could not do: eradicate all hope. But there are those that still resist, that push back in the face of futile odds. It will now be up to Shepard and Tali's daughter - Roahn - to figure out a way to restore that hope, unite their lost allies, and pursue their enemy to the universe's very edge.

AU, ME1. Main changes are to humanities biology. Same universe as 'Bloody Path to the Stars'. After coming onto the galactic scene in a short but bloody war, Humanity has a meteoric rise. Now another hurdle is being jumped. A human is being seriously considered as a possible spectre, but this human will be more important than anyone realizes.
