7 years later...
A truck is seen rumbling down the desert plains, it's destination being an abandoned city in the distance. Inside, multiple mercenaries were gearing up, preparing for whatever might happen once they got there. Adrian was also present in the group; he wore similar armor, though his gun was slung across his back as he held a datapad in his hands.
"Alright, boys" the lead officer said, "Be ready. We don't know if any kaiju will see us. Let's just get into the building, grab what we need, and get out. Understood."
The other mercenaries, Adrian included, nodded their assent.
A few minutes later, the truck pulled into the city, weaving its way past crushed cars and debris as it went before coming to rest in front of a massive building with a courtyard that that the Pacific Defense Force logo carved out of stone in front of it. Once the truck stopped, the mercenaries all got out and headed inside.
"Adrian," the commander said, "We'll handle it up here. Go do your thing."
Adrian nodded and immediately headed for the elevators. Once inside, he hotwired the security, pressed the button for the lowest floor, and the doors closed as the elevator began to descend, eventually opening up into a large Jaeger command room. Adrian immediately got to work, hacking into the system and downloading whatever Jaeger and Kaiju based files he could. Suddenly, his eyes caught notice of a different file, this one labelled MONARCH COLLAB PROJECT.
"Hm, interesting." He said to himself as he pulled out a second hard drive, this one labelled PERSONAL STUFF in sharpie; he kept this one on hand in case he saw something that would only interest him and him alone. He downloaded that particular file onto the drive. Once he had cleared the entire main computer, he noticed a window in the front of the room, showing a massive hangar, unlike any he had seen before; a door to this hangar could be seen on the right side of the room. As his curiosity got the better of him, Adrian walked over and opened the door, exiting onto a catwalk that split off and spanned all over the hangar. Adrian walked across and looked down as he did, but he couldn't see anything, suddenly, he heard something clanging nearby, and whipped his gun out.
"Who's there?" he called, but no response. Just then, a glint caught his eye, and he looked down to see a blue energy field covering what appeared to be the entrance to a massive underground tunnel.
"Now where on earth does that lead to?" he asked himself; he made a mental note to check this place out again in his own time. Unfortunately, he was so mesmerized by the tunnel that he took no notice of the kaiju dog that was there until it pounced on him with a snarl. Frantic, Adrian pushed its head back with his rifle and then shoved it backwards with his feet before scrambling to his feet and bolting back towards the command room, the kaiju close behind.
Entering the room, Adrian sprinted past the tables, into the elevator and slammed the button for the doors to close, just as the kaiju entered the room, climbing over multiple consoles and breaking them as it made its way to Adrian, who then began firing his gun at it just as the doors to the elevator began to close. The second they did, Adrian heard a sharp bang as the kaiju's head rammed into them, but the elevator began its upward climb, and Adrian breathed a sigh of relief; thankful he had survived. He then checked to make sure the two hard drives were secure, and thankfully, they were still intact in his suit's pockets. Just then, the elevator door opened and Adrian ran out reuniting with the other soldiers, who were already outside, loading scrap parts into the truck.
"Adrain!" the commander said, "I was beginning to think you were killed."
"No, but close" Adrian replied as he got back in the truck., "I had a close call with one of those kaiju dogs."
"I see. Well, you're here now, so all is good. You got anything interesting?"
"You could say that."
"Good, you can show it to Shane when we get back. Let's move out!"
A few minutes later, the truck was rolling back through the desert towards the camp.
…
Back in the facility, the kaiju dog paced the catwalk in the hangar, upset its prey had not onlty escaped, but it wounded it in the process. What it didn't notice however was that the energy field covering the tunnel entrance was gone, the controls to it having been destroyed by the dog when it chased Adrian. Suddenly, the kaiju picked up a new scent and looked in the direction of the tunnel, only to run away in fear as a massive screech echoed through the hangar and a massive winged snake came out, bursting through the ceiling of the hangar, up through the street and into the city itself. As the creature, called a Warbat, looked around, it let out a triumphant roar back down the tunnel it had made...
…
After a while, the truck returned to the camp, and the mercenaries began unloading the parts while Adrian immediately went to see Shane.
"Well?" Shane asked.
"Just more scrap parts" Adrian replied, "I did find somethings on the main computer though. Might be worth a look."
Shane took the drive offered to him and nodded, then turned to see a second truck that had pulled in. "Looks like Mei is back as well. I'll go handle it."
As Shane walked toward the truck, Adrian felt a twinge of joy; he always enjoyed seeing Mei. However, that happiness turned to confusion as he saw three newcomers exiting the truck: a boy with brown hair, a girl with blonde hair in a ponytail, and a younger boy with oddly colored skin and light blue hair.
"Now who on Earth are those guys?" he asked. He then made a mental note to try and talk with them when he got the chance, not knowing the journey that one conversation would put him on.
For those of you who have seen Pacific Rim: The Black, I have no idea what those kaiju dog things are called, so don't hold it against me if I didn't name them right. I also decided to bring the main story into this because the main characters of the actual anime series are going to be important for what comes later, especially Boy.
