Chapter 1: You have a Quirk

Throughout history, there has been one thing that has been common around the world:Quirks

A quirk is a special superhuman ability that humans can possess. There are many quirks such as super strength, flight, elemental manipulation and more. Some people use their quirks for good, to protect people, save lives through being apro hero. Others use their quirks for evil and dub themselves as villains. There have been great stories about pros such as All Might, butperhaps the greatest story of all, would be the story about his successor.

At a certain household in Mustufasu, Japan, a young boy was watching a very specific video again and again on repeat. As he watched the video, he rocked his head back and forth while his green hair moved wildly. The video showed the debut of one of the world's greatest, if not the greatest hero of all time. His name - All Might. The hero saved over a hundred civilians in under a minute. This hero had come a long way from his debut and was now the Worlds Symbol of Peace. He was also the boy's idol.

"Izuku dear!" a voice called from across the room, "Come on now, you don't wanna be late do you?"

It was his mother Inko Midoriya. He was due for an appointment with the doctor to see if he had a quirk. Kids his age usually got their bodies checked to see what kind of quirk they possessed. Quirks were considered to be special types of superpowers people are born with and 80% of the population was born with a quirk. Some quirks change the body type of a person, others cause them to emit lasers from their eyes, while some simply enhance the user's body to perform inhumane tasks.

Quirks first appeared a few centuries ago when a newborn girl in the Quin-Quin province of china began emitting light from her body. Quirks began as an anomaly but soon became the norm as societies were revolutionised and newer laws were made to control the use of quirks in public.

Now quirks have evolved to the point where emission of light from one's body is deemed as a useless quirk.

Little Izuku was excited to see what his quirk was, but at the same time, he was also nervous about being quirkless. He was afraid of how this would affect his friendship with his childhood best friend.

Izuku looked up to Inko worriedly. "Mommy?" he asked, "Would you still love me even if I didn't have a special quirk like you do?"

Izuku's mom was shocked to hear this.

But on remembering her "Special someone she knew" who was originally quirkless, she turned to Izuku and spoke tenderly.

"Izuku, sweetie, I know you're scared, but there's one thing you should know," she bent down to his level to look at him evenly, "I will love you no matter what your quirk is. I will love you even if you don't have one." Izuku smiled knowing this and gave her as big of a hug as he could. "And you don't have to worry about your friends. If they can't accept you for who you are, then you can always make new ones in the future!"

Izuku smiled. "You're right, Mom," he said.

Inko smiled once again. "Are you ready?"

Izuku raised his fist up. "I'm ready!"

"And even if I don't have a quirk, I'll still be a hero!"

Later they were in the doctor's office.

"Sorry kid, not gonna happen," the doctor said.

The news shocked Izuku. "Maybe that sounded a little harsh," the doctor said, "What I mean is, being a quirkless hero isn't gonna happen, because based on these test results, you've got yourself a quirk!"

The boy then smiled widely. His mom and the doctor smiled back at him. But the doctor's smile soon turned upside down as he delivered the last bit of information to the mother-son duo.

"Mrs. Midoriya, your son will develop a quirk, that's for sure, but there is a small problem at hand. The quirk factors in his blood are very weak, which is rarer than being quirkless.. This means that he will definitely be a late bloomer and should develop a quirk before he is 10," the doctor explained as the smile still stayed on Izuku's face, "However, there might be a way to decrease the wait time,"

Inko looked to the doctor cautiously. "What is it?"

"Well before I get into that, would you mind telling me what you and your husband's quirks are?" The doctor asked.

"Of course," Inko said. She used her quirk to pull Izuku's All Might toy from the ground.

"My quirk allows me to pull small objects towards me, meanwhile my husband could breathe fire," she started to explain, "He could also cloak the fire around his body to enhance his agility."

"Well, I'm not so sure about the fire part, based on his information, it seems like your son's quirk seems to be a body enhancement quirk of some sort," the doctor explained, "If Midoriya were to begin a workout routine or to learn martial arts, there's a slight chance his quirk might come sooner rather than later."

The doctor coughed and corrected his glasses before continuing. "The choice is up to you, without the training, he will most likely not be able to use his quirk until he's 10."

Izuku looked to the doctor with determination. His eyes had fire within them. "I'll do it! I want to train so that I can use my quirk and be like All Might and save everyone with a smile!" he said with the flames of determination burning bright in his eyes. Those words brought back memories.

She remembered when she was a student in the General Ed course of UA High School and talked to her boyfriend.

"So why do you want to be a pro hero?" she asked, "Is it for fame? For glory? Or for personal reasons?"

Her boyfriend looked at her and smiled.

"The reason I'm training my quirk is so I can use it correctly," he said, "I want to be a true hero like my master and save everyone with a smile!" He took hold of her by the waist. "More importantly, to be there for you when you're in danger." Inko chuckled.

"You're such a charmer," she said. They shared a kiss.

Inkos eyes started to well up as she noticed Izuku mirrored her actions.

"Mommy?" A concerned Izuku asked, seeing his mother tear up.

Inko came back from her daydream. "I'm ok, sweetie," she said, "I'm just…. So happy." She hugged him and picked him up.

The two thanked the doctor and left the hospital. Making their way home, Izuku and Izuku were greeted to the sight of a movers and packers truck right next to their door.

Inko parked her car and the two made their way to meet the people who were moving there. A young girl with permanent blush marks on her face stepped out.

"Oooooh, its so big!"

A brown haired man, who seemed like the girls father, laughed at her statement and responded, "Yes, dear. Yes it is." a woman stepped out as well and joined what was probably her husband and daughter as they were admiring their new house.

Inko walked up to the family of 3.

"Why hello, are you moving here?" A woman who looked like the little girl's mother stepped forward.

"Why yes we are," she began, "I'm Kurumi Uraraka, and this is my husband Maruki, and my daughter Ochako." She shook Inko's hand, "And you are?"

"Inko, Inko Midoriya. This is my son, Izuku. We live next doors. If you need help with anything, feel free to ask." She turned to Izuku. "Don't be shy sweetie, come along and say hi,"

The little girl's father urged Ochako to do the same. "I'm sure he's friendly," he said with a smile.

Izuku had gone up to the little girl who was still hiding behind her father's leg and let out a small, "H-hi. I'm Izuku and I love heroes. All Might is my idol. What's your name?"

The girl slowly left her father's pant leg and walked a bit ahead. "M-my names Ochako. I love heroes too. Thirteen is my favorite hero."

"The rescue hero?" Izuku asked, "She's one of my other favorites too!"

Mr. Uraraka stepped forward. "I'm warning you now boy," he said, "Any funny business, any at all, and you will be answering to me."

Izuku gulped at the thought. Mr. Uraraka's serious face suddenly turned to a goofy face.

"Just kidding!" he said as he laughed, "I can tell you two are going to be good friends." Izuku sighed in relief.

"I know, if you two dont mind, Ochako can come and play with Izuku at my house till the movers and packers are done. I'll send her if you need anything." Inko rested her hands at her side and gestured to her house.

"That sounds lovely," Kurimi said, "Now, Ochako, why don't you get acquainted with Izuku while I teach daddy, not to do gags with boys." She looked back to Maruki with an evil grin. She then tugged him by the ear and pulled him inside.

"Ochako sweetheart," Maruki said, "Save me!"

"Bye papa!" Ochako said as she giggled.

Inko took the two kids back to her house. Izuku bolted towards his room after telling Ochako to follow him. The kids left Inko alone in the hall as they ran into the mini hero shrine. As Ochako made her way to the room, she was amazed. His shrine was filled to the brim with everything All Might, from action figures to comic books to movies.

"Wow, you're quite the fanboy," she said as she smiled.

"Yeah," he said.

He went to show her one of his toys and tripped on something. Ochako reached out her hand and touched him. All of a sudden he was floating. Izuku was amazed.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry!" she quickly slapped her hands together, the sound shocking Izuku slightly "Release."

Izuku landed on his feet rather ungracefully, but he was still in awe at Ochako's quirk.

"I should've asked before I could use my quirk on you." Ochako looked apologetic, but Izuku didn't see what the issue was.

"It's alright," said Izuku, smiling. "I'm actually in a good mood today."

"Why's that?" Ochako asked curiously. "I came back from the doctor's office and discovered that I have a quirk!"

Ochako clasped her hands together after hearing the news. "That's so exciting," she said, "What is the quirk?"

"Well, based on these notes," Izuku pulled out his notebook and opened it."It's somewhat of a body enhancer allowing me to dial up my speed or strength to 11. The issue is my body isn't ready to use it just yet." He pulled out some weights. "Fortunately, the doctor said if I work out my body enough, then I'll be able to use it sooner!"

Ochako smiled. "I think you'll be a great hero one day," she said.

The two of them spent the day playing with each other. One moment, they were pretending to be All Might and 13 rescuing Inko from danger. Inko was covered up in a blanket. "Oh, help me!" she said. Izuku and Ochako pushed the doors open. "I am here!" Izuku said. Another moment, they were reading comics and watching tv. The time came for Ochako to get situated in her apartment. "I'll see you later," she said smiling. Izuku waved to her. "You too," he said. Maruki went inside and then turned to Izuku, giving him a wink.

Later that evening, Izuku was watching the video one more time before he went to bed.

"You know what I love about All Might?" Izuku asked, "He smiles and always savess the day no matter how hard things get…. I doubt he even has a quirk, that all the true strength comes from within… Do you think I can be a hero like All Might with my quirk?"

Inko looked at him.

"Dear," she said. She hugged him and cried happily.

"I think you'll be 10 times the pro hero All Might is one day," she said smiling, "I'm so proud of you."

After Izuku went to bed, Inko sat on the window of her room staring at the moon as her mind kept replaying the words Izuku said at the doctors.

She looked at the moon one final time.

"He is going to be a great hero one day. I just know it." After saying this she went to bed, a smile adorning her face as she remembered her younger days, goofing off with him.
