Hello! This is the first ever fanfiction that I will be writing. I am not that creative, but I hope that you all like this story! I intend to make Izuku very overpowered in this story, but depending on how that is received I may make another one where he isn't as OP from the beginning. Hope you enjoy it! Please leave me some reviews, I would really appreciate it!

Chapter 1: Gomi Gomi No Mi

All men are not created equal.

That is something that Izuku Midoria learned at the young age of 4. It was then that he learned that he didn't have what everyone else did; it was then that he learned that he was Quirkless.

Izuku was a small child with curly green and black hair and emerald green eyes. His life was thrown for a loop after he and his Mother, Inko, who had the same green hair and eyes as her son Izuku, were told he was Quirkless. Izuku's best friend, Katsuki Bakugou (or Kacchan), became his worst bully, and the rest of the world seemed to completely give up on him.

But Izuku's life did not stay so dreary and sad for long, as he gained a power that no one had ever seen before. This story is how Izuku Midoria became the Symbol of Hope. This is how he became Deku: The Rubber Hero.

Izuku was 6 years old when his life changed. He was in his room watching a video of a hero he had yet to add to his Hero Journals. Being Quirkless, Izuku did everything he could to learn from Heroes to try and put it to use later.

"Izuku, we're going shopping!" yelled Inko.

"OK!" he replied.

On their way to the store Inko decided to stop by an old flower shop that she liked to visit. The old lady who ran the shop greeted them as they entered.

"Good afternoon!" she said.

"Hello, we're just looking around today." Inko replied.

"No problem! Take your time to look around!" she said.

As Inko looked around the flower shop, the old lady gave Izuku some cookies and told him stories. She spoke of a world full of Pirates and Oceans. She said that it was a world where people didn't have Quirks, but instead people had powers from strange fruits she called Devil Fruits. She spoke of a massive man who could grab and shatter the very air itself, a man who could turn into mochi and see the future, and a man made of rubber who led a group called the Straw Hat Pirates. Izuku always enjoyed her stories, and it was one of the few times he was truly happy at that age.

As Inko finished looking around and they left, the lady told her to come back any time. As we began walking around the shopping area, Izuku saw a flash of red and suddenly felt the urge to move to the right. As soon as he moved, a wall that was next to him blew apart, and a villain with blades coming from his body came through. He quickly grabbedInko and ran to the center of the plaza, and was quickly surrounded by cops and a few Heroes.

"Mommy!" Izuku yelled as he tried to get to her, but he was quickly stopped by the police in front of him.

"Stay back kid! We'll handle this Villain!" said a cop as he pushed Izuku back. "Stay back!" yelled the villain, "Stay back or the woman dies!" The villain held up his hand, turning it into a blade and holding it at Inko's throat. As Izuku saw the fear in his Mom's eyes he tried to get past the police again, but ultimately failed.

"Dammit! This guy shouldn't be able to create such blades! He must be using a booster drug!" yelled one of the heroes. However, the villain's blades suddenly started shrinking and retracting back into his body. "Damn, the drug is wearing off! I can't get away! If I can't escape then I am at least taking something from this damn woman!" As the villain said that he took one of his blades and stabbed it into the small of Inko's back.

"AAAAHHHHHH!" screamed Inko as she dropped to the ground. As soon as she was clear the heroes quickly jumped in and subdued the villain. The cops quickly called an ambulance and Inko and Izuku were quickly brought to the nearest hospital (which was conveniently right down the road). Izuku cried as his Mom was brought into an ER room and had surgery done. When they were done they brought Inko to a new room. When she woke up the doctors informed her that her nervous system was just barely missed and that she would be ok in a few weeks.

Izuku cried again after the doctors left. Cried that he wasn't able to save or even help his mother. He cried because he was powerless.

"Izuku," said Inko, seeing her son crying. "Why are you crying so much? The doctor's said I would be fine." "It's because I couldn't help you, because I was powerless and had no way to even try and save you Mommy." Izuku said as the tears came down even harder. "The kids at school are right! I am useless! I am a Deku!"

"Honey, you are not a Deku, and frankly whoever said that to you needs to be told off." said Inko as she quickly hugged her son. "This was in no way your fault and I would have hated it for you to get hurt instead for trying to interfere." This seemed to calm Izuku down a bit, but he still felt horrible.

As Inko fell asleep Izuku began obsessing over how powerless he was at the moment. As well as wondering how it was that he knew what was coming. Suddenly, he remembered a similar ability being told to him in a story. Then, in an act of recklessness that would change his future forever, Izuku ran out of the hospital and down the road to the one person he knew who spoke of unknown powers. He ran to the old lady at the flower shop.

When he got there he quickly found the old lady and asked her to tell him the story of the mochi man who could see the future. "Now why would you want to hear that story again when there are so many others I could tell?" she asked him. "It's because I want to see if his power is the same as mine." he replied. Shocked by what Izuku just said, she asked "Kid, what do you mean your power? I thought you were quirkless?" Izuku then told her of how right before the villain showed up he saw a flash of red and the urge to move to the right away from the wall the villain came crashing out of.

"I see." said the old lady. "You have the advanced Observation Haki. I didn't think this world had Haki. You have the power of foresight. Tell me kid, if you had power, what would you do with it?" "I would want to be a hero, a hero who saves those who need a light in the darkness. I want to be a symbol of strength and hope that those I care for can rely on and the rest of the world can look to." Izuku replied. "I see," said the old lady. "I hear your wish and I approve of it. I believe you worthy of this power." As the old woman said that she pulled out a chest from under the desk. When she opened the chest Izuku saw a strange purple fruit with a swirl pattern covering it. "This is the Gomi Gomi No Mi, or the Gum Gum Fruit." said the old lady. "This fruit will turn your entire body into rubber. I offer you this fruit and it's power to help you on your journey. Will you accept it?" she asked.

Izuku stared at the fruit hesitantly, as he wasn't sure if he should believe the old lady or not. He remembered her stories and knew of the rubber man, but wasn't sure if he should believe that they were true. But then he thought about his dream, and what he wanted to become. He chose to trust the old lady as he said "I accept your offer."

"Excellent!" said the old lady as she handed the fruit to Izuku. "Just a heads up, but the fruit tastes like garbage." However it was already too late as Izuku had already taken a bite of the fruit and swallowed the piece in his mouth. Izuku quickly took on a disgusted face as he set the fruit down and tried to resist the urge to hack the fruit back up.

"You now have the power of rubber, and I trust you to use it well. I believe that you will do great things with this power, but I must warn you. Those who consume a Devil Fruit are forever hated by the water. Any resting water will drain your power, and should your head go under you will sink like a hammer. Running water is ok, but I strongly advise that you stay away from the ocean or pools. Now run along, your mother must be worried about you."

The old lady watched Izuku leave the store after he said his thanks and goodbye with a small smile on her face. "So the boy has Katakuri's foresight and now has Luffy's Gum Gum Fruit. Let's see how he learns and grows in the future." she said with a small smile as she pulled a blue staff out from under the desk and undid the tie holding her bright orange hair up. "I hope you put the Captain's power to good use, and I look forward to seeing what you do next." As she said this she began twirling the staff, slowly disappearing until all that was left was an empty store.

Inko woke up the next morning with an excited Izuku on the side of her hospital bed. As she wondered why he was so excitable, she suddenly saw his arm go flying across the room, stretching all the way. She instantly started freaking out as she got up to check on her son, making sure that he was okay as she yelled "Izuku! What happened!? Are you okay!? What happened to your arm!?"

"Mommy look, I have a quirk now! It's just like the rubber man in the old lady's story!" said Izuku as he looked back at his mother with a look of pure joy on his face. Inko suddenly froze at what he said before slowly asking, "Izuku, sweetheart. What do you mean it's just like the old lady's story?" "I mean my body is made of rubber! Look!" as he said that he brought his stretched arm back and used his hands to stretch his cheeks past human limits. "The fruit really worked! I got a quirk now mommy!"

"Fruit? What do you mean the fruit worked?" Inko asked her son. Izuku then went on to tell her how he went to the old lady's flower shop last night to ask her about how he could have known the villain was coming, which was another shock to Inko to say the least. After Izuku finished his story by telling his mother that he ate the strange fruit, Inko reprimanded him for eating a strange fruit from someone who was basically a stranger. However, after that she smiled and hugged her son, happy that her son could finally fit in. But what he said next stopped her cold.

"Mommy, I don't think we should let this be known." Izuku said to his mom after thinking about something. "What do you mean honey? Why would you not want to register your quirk?" "Because I don't think it's actually a quirk. My rubber body came from a fruit, so I won't have the normal signs of a quirk, and the old lady said that my other ability is Observation Haki? I think that's what she called it. And from what she said that isn't a quirk either as a few people in her stories had it too." he explained.

"I see. But even then I think that we should still register your rubber body as you won't be able to keep that secret for long. But I understand that you don't want others to find out about them too much so we can do the experimentation ourselves and simply register that your body is made of rubber. It can pass as a mutation and then you can avoid bringing up any problems later on." Inko explained to her son. Izuku saw the logic in her reasoning and accepted the fact that they would have to register his rubber body.

To say the doctors were baffled by Izuku's sudden Quirk was an understatement. They wanted to do research about it, but Inko quickly turned them down saying that she and Izuku would much rather prefer to learn about her son's quirk on their own. The reason she gave was that she didn't have the best experience with Quirk doctors after the last one blatantly crushed Izuku's dreams in his face when he was only 4. The doctors hesitantly agreed to her request as they could not convince her to change her mind.

As the next year passed, Izuku began learning more about his newfound powers. The kids at school all treated him the same, thanks to Bakugou saying that a rubber body was a useless quirk. But Izuku knew better. He knew that he could become an amazing hero just like the last user.

Another odd thing that began happening was Izuku started dreaming of another rubber man. This man (who he later learned was named Luffy) wore a red vest, blue shorts, and a straw hat with a red stripe on the fold. After he had these dreams for a couple days in a row he realized that they must be moments of the life of the previous user of the Gomu Gomu No Mi. He then began writing notes on his dreams, learning from Luffy on how to use his newfound powers. As time went by he saw many fights. Izuku was a very intelligent child, and quickly learned how to summon the base version of Observation Haki within a couple months.

Izuku also began learning martial arts and working out, wanting to learn everything that he could to advance his technique and create his own fighting style. He knew that if he didn't work out he wouldn't be able to make any substantial hits even with his newfound power. As the years went by Izuku slowly learned more and more about his own abilities and the different forms of Haki. He learned about Armament Haki when he was 9, and it took him 2 years to learn how to activate it on command. He learned about Conqueror's Haki when he was 10 and by the time he was 14 he could only activate it on command half the time, as he still couldn't quite figure out how it worked. He couldn't quite figure out what it meant to force his will over others own will. However, he was slowly discovering more and more about what it meant.

Izuku learned about Luffy's gears when he was 8. After 2 years he learned how to activate Second Gear while in the Horse position and 1 year to get Third Gear to work for a 30 minute period before he shrunk down. Fourth Gear was his toughest challenge so far. He could handle Fourth Gear Bounceman for 5 minutes and Snakeman for 2 minutes.

Despite all his power Izuku made sure to stay humble and remember his origin. He never grew arrogant like Bakugou did (of whom he grew out of calling Kacchan after he learned that even with a Quirk he was still an asshole to Izuku). However, he did gain a fair bit of confidence over the years as he learned about his abilities and learned martial arts.

And so by the age of 14 Izuku was well versed in Judo, Kempo, Taekwondo, and several grappling techniques, and knew how to at least semi activate all of Luffy's techniques and abilities.

And so, that fateful day came when Izuku was 14, and he would take his next step into becoming the Symbol of Hope.

And I am leaving the first chapter there! I know, I know, cliffhanger. I hate them too, but I want to see how people like how I'm writing and see if it's a good length for a chapter or if I should make them longer. Also I think it's a good place to stop. I am planning on making this a harem fanfic (I have plans for that so hurrah) and if anyone has any ideas for who to add in let me know. I don't want it larger than 10 girls and I currently have Uraraka, Momo, Jirou, and one more secret girl that I will keep to myself for now. Anyway please leave a review and tell what you think as I will be looking forward to what people think. And so, I bid you all adieu.
