Interruptions

Diana sighed as she stepped under the showerhead, relishing the feel of the hot water that assaulted her weary body. It had been a long day back with the League participating in missions after being on maternity leave for the last two months.

It had been more difficult than she had imagined being away from her infant son for the first time, but Alfred had sent her pictures and updates throughout the day, helping to ease the longing she carried in her heart. Thankfully, there had been several tedious missions that had helped to keep her mind and body busy.

She'd been able to spend the evening holding him and feeding, spending time with him before she put him to bed. The only thing that would've made it more perfect would have been Bruce joining her, but her husband had been forced to start patrol early while she was out finishing up a mission. A hostage situation at a department store had caused him to miss dinner followed by a high-speed car chase by a pair of bank robbers.

Rinsing the shampoo from her hair, she found that she missed him deeply, hoping that he returned home from patrol soon since he had to start so early tonight. She knew that was wishful thinking on her part. Gotham was rarely quiet and if it was, there was never a good reason for it. It typically meant that something was brewing that would have to be dealt with eventually.

Turning off the water, Diana dried off with one towel before wrapping her long raven strands up with another. Entering their bedroom, she attempted to stifle a yawn as she pulled out a light pink satin nightgown, one that she knew was one of Bruce's favorites. She was optimistic that she wouldn't be wearing it for very long tonight.

Despite her fatigue, she was anxious for some uninterrupted time spent alone with her husband. They were technically still in their honeymoon phase as Shayera called it. She wanted to enjoy it for as long as it lasted, hoping that it lasted forever.

Removing the towel from her hair, she ran her fingers through her wet locks before slipping the nightgown on. With a bit of luck, Nicholas would sleep several hours, allowing her and Bruce to have private time alone without interruptions.

She sprayed some of the perfume on her neck and chest that Bruce had given her for her birthday, knowing how much it drove him crazy. She ran her brush through her hair, removing all the tangles before heading to their bed. She was eager to get a few hours of sleep before Bruce returned from patrol. She knew they had an early morning Founders' meeting tomorrow, so they were going to be pushed for any alone time then, leaving whatever time they had when Bruce came home from patrol.

Pulling back the covers, she climbed into bed, breathing contentedly as she sank into the pillows and mattress. Her eyes fell closed as a smile spread across her face, releasing a deep breath as sleep hastily began to claim her…

…only to be awoken by the crying of her infant son.

Flipping the covers off, Diana got up, making her way to the nursery next door to find Nicholas wailing loudly. His little hands were clenched into tight fists, his face wet with tears. "Hey, little warrior," Diana gently cooed to him. "What's the matter?"

Nicholas sniffled and cried, holding his arms out to his mother. She picked him up, holding him close against her chest. "How about we check your diaper?" she asked, carrying him to the changing table.

Removing his wet diaper, Diana cleaned him up before putting a clean one on. She took him to the rocking chair that Bruce had bought for her, rocking him in her arms for several minutes until he was finally fast asleep again.

Putting him back in his crib, she silently shut the door behind her before returning to her own bed. She settled against the pillows, more than ready to get some much-needed sleep. Being a mother, wife, and superhero was turning out to be a somewhat exhausting task. She turned onto her side, her hand lightly running over his pillow as thoughts of him drifted through her head before falling asleep.

Not thirty minutes later, the sound of Nicholas's wails woke her out of a deep sleep. With a sigh, Diana got up, wondering what her son could want now. It wasn't quite feeding time yet and she'd just changed his diaper not that long ago.

Entering his nursery, Diana went to the crib to find him crying, his face red with the force of his wails. She gently rubbed his abdomen as she spoke to him, finding his blanket had worked its way off of him. She adjusted it around him, giving him his pacifier that had fallen out of his mouth.

He sucked eagerly, eventually calming with the soothing touch of his mother. His eyes fell closed into a fit sleep…or at least she hoped it was a fitful sleep. "Sleep well, my little warrior," she whispered, leaning down and kissing his forehead.

Closing the door behind her, she quickened her step, anxious to get back to bed. She wanted to get as much sleep as possible before Bruce got home. She slipped in under the covers, sighing contently as she sank into the mattress and pillows. She wasn't sure if this was just this comfortable or she loved it so much because she got to share it with Bruce.

It didn't take long for Hypnos to work his magic on her, indulging her in nearly an hour of peaceful slumber before the whimpering cries of her son stirred her awake once more. She rolled over onto her side with a groan, waiting to see if he was going to calm himself down or if he really needed her.

Noticing that it was time for a feeding, Diana threw the covers off her before getting up. She didn't bother grabbing her bathrobe, going directly to the nursery as Nicholas's cries began to grow louder and stronger. Opening his bedroom door, she found him screaming angrily.

"Hey, now," she cooed to him as she lifted him out of his crib. "I'm here. No need to fuss. I'll always take care of you."

She held her son against her shoulder as she carried him to the rocking chair, helping him to latch on. He began sucking furiously, sniffling as his eyes closed in satisfaction. She gently rocked him as he ate, stroking the wispy tuft of jet-black hair on top of his head.

"I thought you might be hungry," she told him. "You know you're going to grow up to be big and strong and handsome just like your father."

He opened his big blue eyes to gaze up at her, seemingly mesmerized by the sound of his mother's voice. "You have your father's nose and his chin," she continued, brushing the pad of her thumb over his chin. "I have a feeling you're going to be brilliant just like him too."

Nicholas waved his tiny fist at her as if he understood every single word that she was saying to him. She chuckled as she softly caressed his chubby cheek. "You have no idea how much you are loved," she said. "You are so loved by your Pappoús and Yiayia. Dick and Tim think you are the best thing to ever arrive at this house. Your Aunt Donna loves you too and of course, your father and I love you more than you can imagine. No one will ever hurt you as long as all of us are around."

Nicholas kicked his little legs excitedly as if agreeing with her, his lips curling up at the corners. "My Nicholas…you're going to be an amazing warrior when you grow up," she praised him. "I can already tell you are going to be a real hero and champion of justice. You may even lead the Justice League someday."

He stared at her in wonder as if hanging on her every word as he ate to his heart's content. She took his hand in hers, caressing it. He quickly wrapped his fingers around hers, clutching it tightly. It was only a few moments later that he was fast asleep, his tummy full and content.

She held Nicholas up against her chest, patting his back. She rocked him a while longer before getting up and putting him back in his crib. She covered him up with his blanket, rubbing his belly before finally leaving his nursery. Hopefully, he'd sleep for at least a couple of hours or so now.

Diana crawled into bed, not even bothering to pull the covers over her. She simply rolled onto her side, fisting her pillow as she fell asleep as quickly as her son had just moments ago. She soon found herself dreaming of her handsome husband and having another baby. Maybe a baby girl with raven curls and big blue eyes like her brother.

It was only an hour that had passed before Nicholas's cries began to invade her slumber. Diana couldn't believe he was crying again already. It wasn't like him to be this fussy during the night. She opened one eye and then the other, hoping he would settle down on his own. Unfortunately, he was only growing more upset.

Sighing heavily, Diana got up and went to his room. Going to the crib, she picked him up, holding him close as she began to pace the nursery. "What's going on?" she asked him. "Just not having a very good night, are you?"

As if in response, Nicholas cried even louder, stiffening his little body and clenching his fists. She continued to hold him as she walked the length of the room, finally sitting in the rocking chair in hopes of being able to soothe him that way.

She held him close as she began to rock him in a slow, steady rhythm again, one that had her fighting to stay awake the longer she rocked him. She finally soon dozed off with Nicholas in her arms, her eyes growing too heavy to keep open any longer.

Bruce made his way upstairs, anxious to see his son and wife. It had been an incredibly long night, one with endless missions. Even though they'd been married for six months, it still seemed so surreal to call Diana his wife. It felt as if it was almost too good to be true that he had a son and a wife now. It was always something that he thought had been meant for others, not him, but he was happy to be proven wrong for once in his life.

Stopping in the doorway of Nicholas's room, he smiled to himself at the sight of Diana sitting in the rocking chair asleep with their son in her arms. He knew that she'd had a rough day of missions with the Justice League. It appeared as though she'd had just as rough a night with their infant son.

He silently made his way to her, gently taking Nicholas out of her arms. He leaned down and kissed his son's forehead, holding him for several moments as he held him. He'd been quite nervous when Diana had told him that she was pregnant, worried that he wouldn't make a very good father.

He felt that he'd been a failure with Dick, Jason, and Tim, making him terrified at the prospect of having a baby to raise. He couldn't handle teenagers. How was he supposed to be able to raise an infant to be the kind of man that he should be?

Thankfully, he had found a more than capable partner in Diana, someone who was as clueless as he was when it came to raising a child. Growing up on Themyscira, she had been the only child on the entire island, surrounded by nothing but adult women. Together, they'd decided they would figure out their own way of parenting.

So far, things had been going very well. Of course, Nicholas was only two months old. They still had a long road ahead.

He swayed back and forth, watching him sleep before finally taking him to his crib. He laid his son down, covering him up with his blanket. He then turned his attention to his slumbering wife. He didn't fail to notice that she was wearing his favorite lingerie. He watched her a long moment before crouching down before her.

"Diana," he softly called to her, his hand coming to rest on her knee.

She hummed softly, opening her eyes and giving him a sleepy smile. "You're home."

"Nicholas keeping you up tonight?" he asked.

"Just a few times, but I don't mind," she replied.

"Let's enjoy the quiet while it lasts," he whispered, offering his hand to her.

Taking his hand, Diana stood to her feet, allowing her husband to lead her out of the nursery and to their waiting bed next door. Stripping off his shorts and t-shirt, Bruce crawled into bed with his wife, pulling her to him in a sweet kiss.

What started out as gentle soon grew passionate and demanding, breathless and heated. His wandering hands began a delicious discovery of her feminine curves, finding out what made her moan and what made her cry out his name with a pleading tone for more. She was a fascinating enigma that he was thoroughly enjoying every moment of learning more about.

Heated kisses punctuated with gasps filled the room as they made love, enjoying the feel of each other's bodies pressed against their own. A pair of boxer shorts were tossed onto the floor, a pink negligee quickly following the same path. Skin against skin didn't feel nearly close enough as they attempted to devour each other.

He drew her leg up her body and over his shoulder, allowing him deeper penetration as he took her with wild abandon. Her entire body bowed with mind-blowing pleasure as she came, his name being torn from her throat with the intensity of her orgasm.

He followed her with his own intense climax, grunting with the tension that was released from his body and into hers. Panting heavily, he stroked her back as he attempted to recover, wishing that he'd been able to return from patrol sooner.

"I missed you tonight," she murmured against his ear, kissing and nipping at the lobe.

"I missed you too," he confessed. "I couldn't wait to return home."

"You know we only have a few more hours before we have to be at the Founders' meeting," she reminded him as she stroked his hair.

He glanced over his shoulder at his alarm clock, sighing in resignation. "Well, we'll just have to make the best of it," he replied.

The whimpering cries coming from the room next door could be heard, alerting them to the fact their son needed more attention. "I'll go take care of him," Bruce offered only for Diana to gently push him back into bed.

"You recover while I feed him and then I'll be back for round two," she suggested with a sexy grin.

Bruce smirked at her, watching with a leering gleam in his eyes as she sauntered out of the bedroom. This was one interruption in his night that he didn't mind. It gave him a chance to gear up for the next round of lovemaking with his beautiful wife.

He decided that maybe it wouldn't hurt to be a few minutes late for the Founders' meeting…as long as there weren't any more interruptions.
