The next day there was more than ample evidence of their tryst with Kagomes neck littered with small bites and bruises.
"Shit." She whispered staring at her reflection in the washroom mirror. Trying to apply some coverup worked for the bruises but the bite mark, particularly one, she couldn't cover. "Nothing a hairstyle can't cover."
Brushing her hair down over her shoulders to cover the worst of the marks she smiled at her reflection hiding the evidence. Satisfied with herself she went into her daughters room taking out her small school uniform from the closet.
"Hey baby girl. Time to get up." Opening the curtains to her balcony doors letting the morning sun in only forced Hanna to hide under her moko-moko wrapping it around herself like a shield.
"No." She whined.
"Listen, if I have to be up then you have to be up." Kagome sat on her bed unfurling the fur from her and picking her up to sit on her lap.
Rubbing at her eyes Hanna settled against her mother and sniffed. Opening her eyes fully she put her nose to Kagomes neck and moved her hair aside.
"Mama you hurt yourself." She gasped out sleepily.
"I'm okay. Don't worry about it." Fixing her hair she stood up with her daughter taking her into the washroom to do their morning routine.
Teeth brushed, bladder emptied, face washed, and hair combed, styled into two tight little braids on her head, the two made their way downstairs to make breakfast.
"Where's papa?" Hanna asked climbing up on the counter to sit.
"Maybe he has some work left to finish up. His office door was closed." Kagome replied heating up some rice from the day before.
"Mama, I want a pancake." Hanna said crinkling her nose as Kagome took out some strips of salmon to cook.
"Hanna, I can't make pancakes to save my life. Also that isn't healthy. A traditional Japanese breakfast has all the protein you need to start your day." She said.
"Fine. Do you ruin cereal?"
"Just grab your bowl Hanna. Forgive me for trying to be a good mom." Kagome said exhausted. Setting her up in the dining room with a bowl of peach flavored cereal she went back to the stove. "This smells so good. I'm starved."
Placing her own food on the table she grabbed her chopsticks to take some salmon to add to her rice.
"You can't have fish." Sesshomaru said from behind her. Glancing over her shoulder she gave him a questioning look. "Fish contains mercury which can be harmful during pregnancy. So no fish."
Sitting at the table in his chair he moved the dish away from her.
"I ate fish all the time when I was pregnant with Hanna. You didn't seem to care then." Kagome quipped.
"First off, that was centuries ago and well before toxins such as mercury were introduced into the waterways. Secondly, this is farm raised not wild which is not as healthy and third I was uneducated at the time how to properly care for you." Sesshomaru replied.
Pushing her rice towards him and placing down her chopsticks she stood up and went into the kitchen with a bowl.
"What you got mama?" Hanna asked looking into her bowl.
"Cereal." Kagome muttered taking a bite from her spoon.
Rubbing at her neck Kagome blinked as she wrote down her notes. Her stomach growled as she placed her hand against her middle embarrassed.
Being dismissed for the day she closed her notebook packing her bag before following the line of other students leaving class.
Once in the hallway she pulled out her cellphone to see if Sesshomaru had messaged her at all. Shrugging at the lack of notifications she figured they would meet up at Hannas school.
"Hey Kagome." Glancing up she saw Hojo waving her down from down the hall by the entrance doors.
"Hi Hojo." She greeted with a nod.
"Are you going to pick up your daughter?"
"Yeah, actually I am." She said with a small smile.
"Would you like me to walk with you?"
"Oh, that's not really necessary today…"
"It's no problem. I insist." He replied kindly.
"I'm meeting up with my husband so really, it's okay. Some other time." She pushed back.
Not that she was hiding anything but she didn't have the energy to introduce Sesshomaru to a former classmate, especially one who had tried to woo her in the past.
"Sure. No prob. Oh, I almost forgot. I got these for you." Reaching into his bag he pulled out a satchel of tea. "For any morning sickness you might have."
Sighing Kagome relaxed and accepted the gift from him. "Thank you Hojo. Thank you for always having something for my ailments."
"What are friends for? If you need anything just let me know Kagome. Don't be shy." Giving a small wave he walked off in the opposite direction she had to go.
Tucking the tea into her own bag she shook her head. "Somethings never change."
It was one thing to deal with humans on a regular basis in practicing medicine. That was under controlled circumstances on his own schedule.
When seeing patients it was another matter. They were, for the most part, polite seeking medical care and listened to his advice.
Waiting in line at Hannas school however was an entirely different matter. All of the parents, mostly mothers, were continuously comparing their child to another's.
Constantly bragging about the achievements of whatever their offspring had accomplished he understood all too well in recent years the immense pride that being a parent rewarded one with but he doubted that any of them were child prodigies, aside from his own daughter of course.
"Good afternoon Ishida sensei." Closing his eyes and steeling himself to face the Tanaka woman he turned around and nodded at her.
"Tanaka san." He said simply hoping that would be enough.
"I went by your practice today only to find out you've retired." She said. "You seem awfully young to be retiring."
"I am older than you realize." Sesshomaru stated. "Was there a reason you went by my former practice?"
"I'm pregnant and I had such a positive experience during my pregnancy with Daisuke that I wanted you to be my doctor again."
"Sorry. I am no longer practicing." He said as the school bell chimed signaling the children would be out soon.
"You can't make an exception for me?" She nearly pled.
"No." Sesshomaru retorted instantly. Looking up he saw Kagome standing somewhat off to the side watching their exchange. "Hello my dearest."
Never more grateful to see her than in that moment he held out his hand to her. Her eyes seemed to clear from whatever thoughts she had had and she smiled walking over to him.
"Hey lovey." Pulling her close to him into a hug he kissed her cheek and threw an unintentional dagger in Tanakas direction. The other woman however wasn't paying him anymore attention.
With her mouth slightly agape she pointed to Kagome. "What happened to your neck? It looks like you were bit by an animal!"
Bringing her hand up quickly to rub at her neck she let out a nervous laugh.
"Oh, Hanna's going through a biting phase. You know how kids are." The words tumbled from her mouth in a rush as she made up the excuse on the spot.
"Wow. That kids got quite the bite." Tanaka exclaimed.
"Yeah." Kagome agreed exasperated giving Sesshomaru a side eye. Smirking at her once they turned around he let out a soft chuckle. "Don't even."
"I didn't say a thing." Sesshomaru said.
"Your actions have always spoken louder than words mate." Kagome shook her head slightly.
Leaning down towards her he whispered in her ear. "And the evidence of that is quite apparent on your skin mate."
Feeling herself flush she cleared her throat. "Oh look, here comes our daughter." Straightening herself out they both accepted Hanna to them with open arms.
After an entire week of running around and getting accustomed to their new schedules Sunday was a very welcome day off.
Sesshomaru had gone out with Inuyasha in the early afternoon stating they had something to take care of. Not pressing the matter Kagome had gone about her day.
Dragging out her yoga mat to the garden she stretched and held her pose looking to Hanna who sat on the ground staring at her.
"You don't want to do yoga with me today Hanna?" She asked.
"Yogas dumb." Hanna replied with a slight scowl.
"We always do our yoga together. It's like our thing, our girl time." Kagome replied.
"I wanna eat chocolates and watch cartoons." Hanna retorted. "Can it be our girl thing?"
"You really do have the wisdom of a goddess." Kagome gave a shrug going into her next pose. "At the same time though it's important to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Especially now, it's important for me to exercise to make sure the baby is healthy."
"I know that."
"Okay Ms. smartie pants; tell me something you don't know." Kagome said straightening herself out.
She watched as her daughter brought her finger to her chin and tapped it in thought as she pondered the question.
"Mama's a human. Papa's a demon. Why is Hanna not those things?" She asked suddenly blinking expectedly at her mother.
Kagome was caught off guard. Walking towards her daughter she sat next to her and thought about it. She had been told by Sesshomarus mother when Hanna was a baby that it was fate. Her daughter was a goddess and she had a destiny to look after the sacred jewel.
Once it had been destroyed for good however Kagome did wonder what that meant for Hannas future, however long they may be.
"I don't know Hanna. I don't know why you're so different from us; why you aren't like uncle Inuyasha or auntie Rin and uncle shippos kits. All I know is that you're my little girl and I wouldn't change you for anything." Smoothing down her daughters silky strands of hair Hanna smirked at her seemingly satisfied with the answer.
A sudden roaring sound came to life from the front of the house, it sounded as if an engine had backfired in the driveway. Taking Hannas hand Kagome led her through the kitchen to the front of the house and out the front doors.
Feeling her mouth drop it took Kagome a moment to register what she was seeing, Sesshomaru was sitting on top of a motorcycle.
While on the one hand it was like a dream of sex personified to see him straddling a bike she went into wife mode and crossed her arms across her chest.
"So, you uh, had to take care of something." She stated. Turning it off he removed the sun glasses he had been wearing and dismounted leaning the bike on its kickstand.
"I wanted it to be a surprise." He said.
"Mama it's a motor bicycle!" Hanna clapped happily and ran down the steps to meet him. Being swooped up into her fathers arms he sat her on the seat.
"For who?" Kagome questioned pursing her lips.
"Both of you." He replied as if it were obvious.
"What am I going to do with a motorcycle Sesshomaru?"
"You can ride it to school so you won't be in such a rush since you insist on me not driving you." He said.
"I don't know how to ride a motorcycle…"
"I can teach you."
"And, I'm pregnant! I can't ride that thing when I'm pregnant!"
"Yes you can. There's no reason why you can't as long as you do so safely."
"Wait. Back up." Kagome put her hands on her hips and stared at him incredulously. "I can't eat fish but I can ride a motorcycle? What the hell kind of advice were you giving your patients?"
"Uncle Inuyasha!" Hanna called out as the car pulled up the driveway. Jumping off the bike she waited until he pulled up and shut the car off before running to him.
"That's fine, perfectly fine Kagome if you don't want to drive it. I will still use it."
"Oh how convenient!" She shouted. "So you can roll up to Hannas school and impress all the moms!"
Inuyasha picked his niece up and gave her a hug.
"Hey kiddo." Walking over to Sesshomaru he smirked. Placing Hanna down he looked up to Kagome. "Told ya' she'd be pissed."
"Inuyasha, sit!" She screamed.
"No! No, no, no, no!" He yelled out as the beads around his neck pulled him straight to the ground landing him hard onto the asphalt.
"This is between my husband and myself! I don't need your input from the peanut gallery!" Kagome yelled pointing at him.
"Uncle Inuyasha?" Hanna crouched down next to him. "You okay?" Poking at him until he groaned out a response Hanna stood up with her arms raised in the air. "He's okay!"
Sesshomaru merely stared her down stoically. Moving quickly he was at the top of the stairs. Picking Kagome up and slinging her over his shoulder he walked with her into the house and shut the door.
Depositing her onto the sofa in their sitting room he looked unimpressed.
"Are you done?" While he had technically posed a question his tone held great authority behind it making it sound more like a demand.
Sniffling Kagome felt her cheeks burn with anger and indignation.
"Now, if you are quite finished with your temper tantrum let me explain something to you Kagome. Everything I do is with you and our daughter in mind. This was not a decision that I took lightly, it was not meant to be anything other than a nice surprise."
"Sesshomaru…" Kagome said softly.
"Quiet." He interjected before she could say anything else. "Allow me to finish before you speak. Frankly I believe you said enough."
Sinking into the cushions she swallowed hard and settled her hands against her lap. "I can understand that you would be upset with my purchase but to question my fidelity to you is not acceptable."
Bringing her gaze up to his she saw immeasurable hurt that he visibly showed sparking in his eyes as they fluctuated between colors relaying his emotional turmoil.
"Centuries Kagome, I waited for you. Everything I have done has been for you since the day I found out you were pregnant with Hanna. Now you're here and you question my faithfulness to you after I suffered for so long without you."
Feeling her tears fall she closed her eyes. "I didn't mean it." She said meekly. "I was just angry. I say stupid things when I'm angry."
"Was it just in anger?" He asked. "The other day at Hannas school you were watching me talk with that woman. You looked wary."
"I don't trust her." Kagome sniffled out wiping her face with the back of her hand.
"Do you trust me?"
"Of course I do."
"Then trust that you are the only one who has my heart." Moving to sit next to her he placed his hands against her shoulders and his forehead to hers. "My eyes are only ever on you. There is no one else and there never will be."
Wrapping her arms around his middle she rubbed her nose against his. "I do know that in my heart. I'm sorry. I ruined it."
"No. You haven't ruined anything little one." Sesshomaru soothed. "There is nothing we cannot fix as long as we talk to one another. We're good."
"I know." Kagome said again.
"I forget how young you are. In a few centuries time once you are more confident in yourself I will miss this." He said softly.
"Oh, don't worry. My insecurities aren't going anywhere." Kagome stammered out with a waver to her voice. Humming softly as her husband placed a soft kiss to her lips she held onto him tighter.
"Then I will always assuage them for you." Placing his arms around her shoulders he tucked her under his chin to him and held her until she was comforted.
