01—Out of the cradle, into the flames.
A fox rages in the land, its chakra poisonous and its claws ending lives. In that place a tiny toddler watches with intelligence unbefitting her age.
Sometimes, danger waits for no one.
{01— Mikoto Uchiha}
Hospitals always had that clean and desolate feeling—the bed wasn't good. Still, the medics were excellent, at the very least. The process of birth is one of the most miserable experiences you can have, and days later, it can still feel you're in a haze. Mikoto did not like hospitals at all, and for that, she left as early as she could.
Not only one child, but three. Mikoto Uchiha looked at her garden. She sat on the wooden floor with two babies clutching her bosom. Black raven hair and dark night onyx eyes made up the genetic features of an Uchiha. Her children had inherited both, though one of them had a pretty beauty spot under her gaze. Two fraternal twins, one named Kaguya, the first out of her tummy. The second was called Sasuke, the last one out of her stomach.
Mikoto was a happy mother. Itachi had grown admirably, and as a six-year-old, he was a shinobi that brought shame to other children in terms of development. Mikoto was aware her firstborn was a prodigy and often learned things at a surprising pace. Her husband, Fugaku Uchiha, was often proud, and his arrogance blinded him to the loneliness of Itachi, without friends for as long as Mikoto oversaw him.
Two years before this, Fugaku had found his son exploring the battlefields of the third war by himself. Fugaku said it was then that Itachi had taken his first life as a shinobi. Mikoto often was in thought as to how fast Itachi matured and felt lacking as a mother. Sometimes she wanted to stifle that growth, but she did not want to impede Itachi in finding what he wanted to do. Itachi was often even more competent than she was, usually wise and often right. Itachi was pure brilliance.
That was why this time, she wanted proper and regular children. She hoped and begged this time to make these two have a normal childhood. No four-year-old need be roaming over dead bodies and ending the life of an injured Jōnin. She hoped that Kaguya Uchiha, and Sasuke Uchiha would lead normal lives.
However—the first signs of abnormality had shown themselves in Kaguya, just like Itachi. She did not cry. Unlike Sasuke, who was bawling and screaming his lungs at every turn, she breathed in mechanically. Her eyes were unfocused and her hands uncoordinated, but she lived in and out without screaming or yelling. She was stunning to the medics as well—it was the first time they saw such a well-developed baby out of the womb. In comparison, Sasuke was a little undernourished, but normal, all things considered.
Mikoto could not help but feel a strange sense of déjà-vu. This child was the same as Itachi, and that did not bode well for the future of this little one. The life of a shinobi prodigy often is filled with death.
{01— Kaguya Uchiha}
The estate was silent, and the living room was plain of stuff. No TVs or other entertainment systems, only the radio spouting off propaganda about how the Fire Nation had won the war. Fire Nation, but unlike the one in Avatar. This was a lie, it was the Land of Fire, with the Leaf Village, being the center of a mass of militaristic power of the country itself. This was the world of shinobi, or whatever they called it. This child, in her previous life, had watched and read both Naruto and its less-praised sequel.
It seems I've been reincarnated into another world.
She was just an Uchiha child. Still, she had a secret. She was a reincarnated woman from another dimension entirely. Previously an accountant and manager for the government, she had reached the end of her career and dearly wanted to become a minister of some sort to help the economy. Yet, her genius expertise was passed for old men creaking and forgetting where the bathroom was to take that treasured position from her. Honestly, competent people are never rewarded, are they?
Yes, she was cocky, which was why she should have seen her ex-boyfriend following her home. Getting raped and punched, as well as choked till death, wasn't fun, was it?
Which was why someone or something had dropped her into a new reality.
Of course, her antisocial tendencies of staying analytical all the time made her grasp she was born again. Through blurry vision and hard-of-hearing ears for the first few weeks wasn't fun. She quickly got those two senses back to normal. Questions surged within, which she answered based on her knowledge of one of her favorite shows. This was the Naruto-verse or one of the many settings like it. My brothers are a twin younger brother and an older brother with a weasel-like face and black eyes—Uchiha Sasuke and Itachi. Which means stealing one set of their eyes might make me powerful. This was her current short-term goal, to steal the eyes of one of them and steal the eyeballs of Shisui if possible, maybe even her father—steal all of them while she was at it. No single emotion of mercy, no wonder she died like that.
Her apathy was even worse than those alien-like beings—the Ōtsutsuki.
Now, to break down how she would accomplish this short-term goal, she needed to be objective about this.
Leaving Sasuke and Itachi for later in life, the other eyes could be accomplished in a few years when the massacre happens.
However, she would be seven or eight, give-or-take.
Three people were of concern, Itachi, Tobi, and Danzo.
They had a vested interest and would be wandering in that dangerous night.
Not much she could do about any of them without some sort of power.
Instead of studying how to kill people by taking their money through legal means, in this life, she would learn how to kill people for real this time.
Firstly, she looked at her chakra, inside her mind. A small sphere of blue flaming light. With her adult mindset and flexibility of a growing brain the next 12 years would be the most important for her development. Since she wasn't gifted with the blessed reincarnation of the Ōtsutsuki grandsons. Indra and Ashura would still be presented in both her snot-nosed younger twin brother and the soon-to-be-born whiskered blond. Neither was she blessed with Uzumaki's strong chakra. Nor did she have any beasts sealed in her belly.
All she had were the genes of the Uchiha, and they were enough. She was a smoky presence in her mind, as tall as she was previously instead of being a baby. No features, only smoke and shadows.
She channeled the chakra through her veins, muscles. Her baby insides sang as she opened the chakra vessels, pathways, points, and pores around her body. The chakra was a small stream of blue fire that nourished her cells. Then passed and returned to the center of the sphere. There were two things nourishing the chakra pool: Yang energy and Yin energy. Yin was the mind, and Yang was the body. Since she was a reincarnation, the Yin energy far outweighs the energy of the body. Both mixed to form the small chakra sphere. However, the large pool of Yin went underutilized because the Yang couldn't keep up. A baby has so much free time compared to an adult, she slept most of the day and only did her nature calls and sucked on her mother's breasts for a living. She exercised a little when she was awake but when she was inside her mind, sleeping, she focused on controlling that Yin energy by itself that was locked.
Finally after a few days of free time inside her mind she finally gained control of that large pool of her mind's energy, the leftovers of her previous life had left with a great relic behind. Her shadowy form grasped that large star-like sphere, and like a careful orchestrator, she applied all that energy into nourishing her own brain.
While the chakra nourished her cells, her body, and the brain. The Yin passed and nourished the processes of the mind, the electrical signals, and her brain efficiencies. The nerves of every part of the body became nourished. As time passed, that nourishment turned into a hyper-efficient nerve system, and a clear mind. The chakra nourished the bone-marrow, kicking her own immune system and hormonal system into gear. Her hormones regulating growth and processes were now up to speed and her blood vessels were much more efficient. Her heart and lungs functioned better, and her skin was purified.
By the third week, she had already accomplished a perfect memory retain and recall rate. With it, she could count the leaves falling as she looked back on a memory of watching a tree in the autumn. Looking back and analyzing memories was such a pleasure—though the memory of her death was unpleasant at best, and she left it untouched.
A hyper-efficient cardiac system and breathing lungs made for a fast delivery of nutrients and oxygen to her cells. An endocrine system that was kicked into gear delivered good hormones for growth and a digestive system better for… processing her mother's milk for lack of better words made her stand out from her twin brother Sasuke. She was already a greedy fetus that stole all his nutrients, and now she was growing slowly, but at least faster than her poor younger brother. She did not care about his health though, she never did—he only needed to achieve the eyes she so desired, so she could swoop in and steal them for herself.
Finally, after cultivating her chakra enough she was ready to tackle the Sharingan.
The Sharingan was a curious thing indeed. One just needed to bring enough chakra towards the eyes to activate it. The further you use it, the easier it became because the chakra pathways going to the eyes would enhance with usage. So more chakra going to the eyes would activate it. Usually, a child can't even control the chakra and where it goes. So it makes sense that only twelve years old and up to know how to activate the eyes. Children are dumb and can't make logical assumptions until their teenage years. They suck at most things and can't even make theories by themselves about how the world really works.
Most children would just strain their eyes and try to activate it that way, going about it the wrong way. But, just like techniques need chakra to function, what would you expect to happen if you don't put enough in your eyes?
Kaguya Uchiha knew the concept was straightforward, and it resembled Nen and Gyo, with chakra being the aura and focusing it all on the eyes. However, instead of feeding it from the outside with your Nen, it was more like you were feeding the eyes from the inside of your brain. The paths were complicated, which added another layer of difficulty for young ninja from her new clan trying to activate the eyes. However, she had been manipulating and feeding her chakra to her cells since she was born, and finally, she had enough chakra to send an added burst from the chakra in her brain to develop her eyes.
Which was why as she crawled for a few steps and tired herself—she could see two red eyes instead of her black ones. The mirror showed her reflection, two glowing eyes with a single Tomoe each. She would develop even more chakra to mature her eyes even further from now on. They rotated slowly, and the world seemed to still. She could count every single dandruff inside of the room, and everything seemed clear. So these were the vaunted eyes of the Uchiha in their initial stages?
They were so exquisite, and she unlocked it while she was a baby, beating Itachi's record by so many years. Though she knew the Uchiha clan had more than a millennium of history, there should be some outlier cases in that time frame that had even more remarkable feats than Itachi.
"She's such a beautiful baby. Come Fugaku, come look at your children."
Mother called Kaguya's father. He had a stone face and a large jawline. His eyes were harsh but expected of a seasoned Jōnin. However, his large hands rested not on Kaguya Uchiha's head, but on Sasuke's. He liked sons better than useless female daughters. His hand rested second on her head, despite her being closer than Sasuke was.
"Sasuke, you're going to grow into a fine Shinobi in the future. Kaguya, you're going to grow into a beautiful lady in the future."
What Mangekyō Sharingan abilities does my father have I wonder? The show never explicitly showed what Fugaku Uchiha had, all that was known is that he was the leader of the police force and the clan leader for the Uchiha.
Kaguya felt nothing as he patted her head, no semblance of familial love towards either Fugaku or Mikoto. Sometimes people view others as less than human so they can commit terrible acts. By minimizing their victim's humanity, one can justify their acts. Burying their heads in sand so as to not feel sympathy for those they are ruining.
Kaguya Uchiha was different, however.
Kaguya recognized and empathized with people. She put herself on the shoes of many destitute people who came for help. She had so much sympathy, empathy and viewed them as humans who dreamed, who had relationships with others, and who needed to survive. She understood their position completely and still ruined their lives.
Kaguya didn't need to dehumanize people to commit terrible acts, no she committed them despite her empathy for them. She viewed her father as a troubled man, too stressed and cornered. She empathized with her mother, who felt too dependent as a housewife. She empathized with her older brother Itachi as he sometimes shed some silent tears as he remembered killing people just last year when the war ended. She recognized Sasuke and his difficulties as a baby with a greedy twin sister. She empathized with their worries, dreams, and aspirations.
Still, she really wanted their eyes. Those who don't need to dehumanize to commit cruel acts and have not a single shred of regret, are much more dangerous and foul than those who bury their heads in sand so as to not have their feelings hurt.
Kaguya Uchiha was an evil spawn.
Speaking of Itachi, he arrived. Wounded from the training he'd undergone, a few cuts on his arms. He passed Kaguya by, with a self-deprecating smile and looked at Sasuke. Meanwhile, Mikoto doted on Kaguya, with a few passing glances at Sasuke. There was a big divide in this family, Sasuke was adored by Itachi and Fugaku, and Kaguya was adored by Mikoto.
The favorites of each family member had been chosen.
{01— Kushina Uzumaki}
Crowded streets with merchants going about their business, wives and workers trying to sell and buy from the market. The ground wasn't paved here, but there was an infrastructure project that her husband authored that would revolutionize the infrastructure of this Hidden Village and bring it to an economic center that matched the capitals of each major country. The buildings were small, and some drunkards passed by with open shirts and a bottle in their hands.
It was when she was on the last days of her pregnancy—she walked aimlessly through the streets. Seeing the sights of the village, she stayed the most part of her life in. She was not from here by birth. In fact, her place of birth and her early childhood place was faraway towards the sea instead of being surrounded by the mainland forests. Her real place of birth was far away, a little island named after the whirlpools surrounding it. Her small clan lived there until the war came to their doorstep and they were massacred.
She was brought here because previously Jiraiya came as an envoy to collect the next heir to the nine-tailed fox. The honored wife of the First Hokage, Mito, was aging quite considerably, and she could not be a proper host to the fox for much longer. A month before the attack, Kushina had arrived and inevitably, the news that her parents and her relatives had not survived took a piece of her soul. Still, Mito was there for her and then she discovered her love in a weak-willed feminine guy named Minato. Despite her insults to his 'manliness,' he proved himself courageous and talented. With hard work, he became the premier shinobi in their village at the age of fifteen, matching the powerhouses like the Three Sannin at his young age. He then conquered countless victories in the previous war that the village had to acknowledge. Making him the second youngest Hokage at age twenty-three with Sarutobi beating him by just one year at twenty-two.
Kushina was proud of him, and the family she would soon build with him.
It was at her mindless walk she came across Mikoto and her babies. They were already four months old.
"How are you, Mikoto-chan?"
"I'm fine. They are a boy and a girl. They were twins."
Kushina looked at them, very interested in how a baby looked so she could get a grasp on how her own Naruto would look in the future. They were very cute babies with their small raven hairs and black eyes. However, the female one drew the most attention, due to an ethereal cuteness, the fact that the female one with the beauty mark was not breaking eye contact with Kushina also helped.
"What are their names?" Kushina asked with a baby-like tone, inspired by their cuteness. She wondered if her child would be born with red hair, or blond hair, violet eyes, or blue eyes. She cheered for the red hair to happen since it was now her pride, and Minato's blue eyes would shine more than her own color.
"The boy is Sasuke, and the girl is Kaguya."
"Is Sasuke the father of the Third? And Kaguya from the legend of the distant princess of the moon?"
"Yes, Fugaku named Sasuke himself, and I stubbornly asked to name Kaguya in exchange. Will you be giving birth soon, Kushina?"
"Yes, we already decided on a name. I hope my Naruto becomes best friends with you two. I hope they are close when they grow up."
Kushina caressed their tummies and then grabbed her own pregnant belly in wonder. These two would be a bit older than her son. She hoped these three wouldn't cause trouble. Though, Kaguya's silent stare was a bit foreboding.
"Sorry about Kaguya, she's just interested in every person I meet. She really is a curious child." Mikoto tried to cover for her child's creepy manners. Sometimes the neighbors said she was haunted or possessed, but this was also normal with Itachi, so Mikoto was already proficient in handling geniuses.
Kaguya's tiny hands pulled from the sheets cutely. "Maaa Maaa~ Daa Daa~" Her hands approached Kushina. Kushina drew a big radiant smile and approached Kaguya. Her tiny hands stopped at Kushina's pregnant belly. Almost as if blessing her child, almost as if knowing a second life was growing in there. "His name is going to be Naruto... Naruto." Kushina spelled out his name for the four-month baby. Kaguya stared at her belly, and with a cold icy look that both mothers did not see said. "Naaa~ Naaa~."
Both mothers rejoiced at how she was trying to pronounce his name, not seeing the cold eyes the baby named Kaguya brought into this world. A dead eye, and a heart of black ice.
{02— Kaguya Uchiha}
While the others were occupied with the disaster happening, Kaguya was trying her best to crawl in the corridor with the view towards the garden. The pond with the koi fish and the Japanese flavor of the view had calmed the furious night, though the great tremors of the earth jeopardized the situation. The brilliant red moon was reflected on the water as the black-haired child tried to reach her ambitions.
However, she took for granted she would survive until then. Because at just this moment there were two problems here. There was a virulent red chakra in the air, a fox rampaging around, and a black spawn from the ground who grabbed her arm as she tried to crawl away.
He's just a tree thing, isn't he? She saw Black Zetsu grabbing her and then grinning.
"A vessel worthy of my mother. Now we will rule this world."
She saw black veins on her skin as her mind got muddled from pain. From her palm, a white diamond was formed inside those black veins in her skin, looking like blackened tree branches. However, I was not that helpless. I knew the arduous path to activate the Mangekyō Sharingan. The intense pain of the loss of a loved one. So, as insane as she was, she lied to her own brain coupled with remembering the pain of her own death. The intensity and lies made her brain think this stress was the genuine article. Then she focused all her budding chakra on her eyes. Her power, as expected, differed from the likes of Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu. Her abilities were tied to her only. Four black ellipses in her red eyes formed a red diamond at the center.
Marisha-Ten
The words came out as an intelligible whisper in her own mind and manifested as power in the real world. Then the world broke, or more precisely, the combination of the Karma inside her, the emotions, and her Uchiha lineage awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan inside of her pupils as her last resort. She did not want Black Zetsu here. She did not want him as her enemy this soon—neither did she want him monitoring her actions from this day forth. Unfortunately for Tobi, he would just have to rely on the White Zetsu from this day onwards. She was getting rid of the creator of the plot right here and now.
The body of Zetsu shattered like glass on the side of a moon. No, there were both of them there looking at each other and, after a moment, broken. His pieces and soul formed glass and fell through the floor unceremoniously—the power to cause an untenable mistake in time. She had caused a paradoxical existence that couldn't sustain itself without her left power, and that existence broke itself apart. Drawing towards the borders of reality and sinking through the grass of the Uchiha garden, descending through the ground, crust and exiting as if existence did not impede its travel and disappearance. She had brought another Zetsu from a parallel universe like the moon reflected in the pond. The two moons inevitably destroyed themselves.
Her right eye bled, and as she breathed the red chakra in the atmosphere, she entered the realm of deep sleep.
In the depths of her mind, her body grew until that of an adult woman's outline. But, in fact, she was just black smoke. Instead of bodily features, there were shadows. This shadowy frame was best to walk rather than crawl.
Her mind, an orderly marble library in the darkness with light shining from windows—she saw a single presence reading books. The whitish hair and blank eyes were unfocused and unmoving. Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Karma had infected her body. One of the wicked ways these vermin kept existing across the stars. Unspeaking and unfocused, a parasite only. Kaguya Uchiha could only stare harshly at this presence. Zetsu's goal was completed before his death. Either Zetsu's original purpose would no longer be fulfilled, or he wanted additional insurance for Kaguya's eventual revival, and he found the perfect vessel with a girl with the same name, Kaguya Uchiha.
However, this Karma posed a slight benefit to her plan. Kaguya Uchiha closed her eyes and went towards another section, ignoring the unfocused parasite. Here was a small blue light, with the size of a small flaming sphere at the center of her inside world. This small blue light was her baby-like chakra. It was a few volumes bigger than this, but her usage of the Mangekyō Sharingan power had left only the barest minimum.
Inside the small sphere was a tiny white diamond. Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's mark was deeply embedded. Kaguya Uchiha's fingers arrived and played with her chakra, flowing it like a small stream and slightly bathing her skin, veins, muscles, and organs with the stream, and then returning it back. She did this for hours as she meditated. Suffice to say, with all the different vectors, any chance of activating her Mangekyō Sharingan ability while this young again were zero. She had almost died, even with the Karma infusion of chakra from a husk of the old-world tree—that Kaguya Ōtsutsuki called a son.
She wanted to use an aspect of Chinese novels to try cultivating this chakra inside her. Kaguya Uchiha wished to bring a new form of training chakra using the cultivation principle often found in Chinese books.
She opened her eyes to stare at her mother's. A mirrored feeling of happiness washed over. The threat of the nine-tailed beast contained, and the shadow of this country had fallen along with his wife.
The Hokage had died. Long live the Hokage.
{02— Kushina Uzumaki}
A black forest by the nightly shadows, a few torches lighting up the destroyed plain, blood and pain were all left behind here.
"Naruto… Please be a good baby and grow up strong."
Her husband was at her side, his dead corpse was. His wounds leaked blood and organs out, his brilliant blonde hair was now darkened with his blood. Minato was dead and gone. The one who had saved her so long ago was now gone, he was such an amazing person to be around always. He had such dreams for the future, World Peace was at his grasp, and it all ended that night. Still, their wonderful son was still alive. Kushina held her baby close to her bosom. Even as the wound on her stomach had stained Naruto, she kept holding her son close.
She would be gone soon, and as she looked at his blonde hair and light eyes, as she felt his cries announced to the world that he was here and living, she cried. She sobbed fiercely at the death of her husband and the inevitable wound that would take her life as well. Why did Minato have to die? He would have been such a great father to Naruto, wouldn't he?
Her mind returns to the man who had ruined her future. He wasn't here anymore. But she still couldn't help but place the blame of it all on him, and hated the swirly-masked man as her life left her body. All she wanted was to have the chance to raise her little Naruto, and that was robbed. Kushina cried as her Uzumaki blood and life spilled on her own son. He was born with his mother's blood on him, and now she died while holding him.
Naruto was born, long live Naruto.
{02— Mikoto Uchiha}
The red building of memories. It was a red round building with a symbol of fire. The place was often warm with nostalgia as if remembering how many missions she picked up when she was younger. How many ended in failure, how many ended in success, how many did she save and how many died in the end. This building was the place of origin for many starting shinobi, and a place of remembrance for those already retired from their job. There weren't many who could boast of retiring, in her case what's simple, she retired to give birth to a family for the clan's sake.
She left both her young ones with Itachi who was already responsible enough to handle both children at once.
"Please, Lord Hokage. Please let me raise him."
Mikoto raised her voice. This reunion with the Hokage had been expected for many weeks now. Her dear friend Kushina had left behind her son in this life, it was her duty to at least ask if she could raise Kushina's son in her stead.
"Mikoto, stop. There is no need." Fugaku blocked her. Her husband did not like that she wanted to raise a child with a cursed sealed monster inside of him. For Fugaku, raising that child would have been a fast and costly mistake on their part as well for the clan and as a family. He already had his heart full with three children. He could no longer love any other child anymore, which was why he and Mikoto had already settled for these three heirs. Itachi, Kaguya and Sasuke were more than enough.
As bad as he felt for his rival and his hidden wife, matters of the family and clan come first. He wasn't particularly fond or even close to Minato as a person, and as a rival for the Hokage position. So there was no obligation for them to insist on the young baby that was sacrificed for the cursed monster in his belly. Uzumaki Naruto was a sacrifice, there was no need to be concerned for a sacrifice. However, now that Minato was gone, Sarutobi returned to the position, something Fugaku was displeased by.
"Which is why I'm asking why you have returned to the position instead of electing another Hokage in your stead? The council wants it as well. You were already retired as a Hokage as well as a shinobi. To take the mantle again at your age is to inform our opponents that we have a weakened position. Meanwhile, I've led our police force for years and it was our efforts that allowed us to save so many survivors that night."
"I'd argue that changing Hokages more often is detrimental. A leader must stay in place and lead this village by example for many years to come. Since I am already familiar with the governing process of this village, my authority will not be questioned by you, Uchiha-san."
Sarutobi Hiruzen was old and wise. He was also an authoritarian who did not want Mikoto. Or the Uchiha clan for that matter, to raise Naruto. So Mikoto was outnumbered here. Her husband vied for the position of the village leader himself, however, the governing body suspected foul play on that night a few weeks back. They suspected that the Uchiha had a hand in the release and rampage of that fox. While wise, calm and nurturing was the usual aspect of the Third Hokage, he had lost his dear wife and was quietly and coldly searching for leads to the culprit. The Uchiha is in a precarious situation now and all Fugaku could do was argue this point and of the things he had done to an unfeeling leader of the village.
Mikoto resigned herself and apologized to Kushina, no longer raising her voice to ask for permission to raise Naruto as her own child.
Mikoto at least hoped her children would be good and make friends with the blond child.
However, as the years slowly passed, the hidden hatred towards Naruto permeating the village, and the ostracizing of the Uchiha clan had led Mikoto to focus all she had on her clan duties and family duties. She slowly forgot about the lonely blond boy with time.
However, dear Kaguya Uchiha, that black heart of ice child could never forget the protagonist of the show, could she?
