Well, my brain wouldn't let me work on anything else until I wrote this. Aside from My hero Academia, for the past Year, I've been watching One Piece, and BOY, has it been quite a ride. It's always been one of those shows I was aware of as a kid, but never really got the chance to watch, which from what I remember from the 4kids dubbing, was probably a good thing. The only thing I new about it was that it was about a pirate named Luffy who could stretch like rubber, and I'm SOOOO glad I decided to give it a chance! Probably the best adventure series I've ever watched.
So I had two Ideas for a crossover fic. One was this Idea, and the other was a fic where the Strawhats, sometime before the Wano arc presumably, end up in the mha world and train a quirkless Izuku to be a hero. Might do a oneshot of that one another time, but for now, here's this.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this silly idea I had.
I own nothing.
The Pirate hero? First mate Deku comes aboard!
Midoriya, from a very early age, knew what it felt like to fall down, hard. Many times in his life he would find himself in a position that more often than not beat him down to the dirt, with very little resolve to get back up.
From that day Kachaan spurned away his friendship, Midoriya found himself falling down a lot. It seemed like merely thinking about getting back up offended the blonde bomber to no end. Even after their little spar, they were tolerable to each other at best, though thinking back on it, Midoriya's attempts at mending peace likely pissed off Bakugo more.
There were plenty of other moments too. His mother's disbelief in his dream, All Might's initial disapproval, his own failure to truly master his barrowed power, Bakugo's kidnapping.
And most recently, his failure to save a little girl in need of a hero.
Sure, Pros like Sir Nighteye didn't see it that way, given the situation, there was no way to get little Eri without bending the law a little, and he's already crossed that line more times than he should've, but that didn't ease the guilt any less. When a little girl is suffering so much trauma and abuse for who knows how long for such an evil purpose, who cares about the law!? Isn't the wellbeing, the happiness of one girl worth it?
Which is why, as Midoriya felt every cell in his body shred to pieces, he felt a little more at peace. Eri was our of the Yakuza hands, Overhaul was down and soon a pro would arrive and arrest him, never to see the light of day again.
He had done it. He saved Eri. He did it.
He was done.
A certain heaviness feel upon him, and he found it harder and harder to breathe. His injuries may have disappeared, but his strength and energy was long gone now. He might not be a bloodied bag of spilled organs, but what did that matter when you might as well be?
A light blue filled his vision, and Midoriya, for the life of him, couldn't figure out why it suddenly seemed looked and felt like he was submerged in water.
Or who's hand it was that was dragging him out.
Out in the East Blue, one young man by the name of Monkey D. Luffy, set sail on his own adventure, but that in of itself had already caught a few snags. For one, the 17 year old, as of this moment, had nothing to his name, aside from a dingy rowboat, an empty barrel, and of course, his beloved straw hat.
The other problem: He didn't now anything about sailing.
Not that these were anything the aspiring pirate was worried about. Truth be told, the only thing that was on Luffy's mind was the lack of meat around him, which to be fare, was a legitimate concern considering he already ran out of his week's supply of food, that he promptly finished in half an hour on his first day, which didn't even end yet.
"So this is the struggle of a pirate." He moaned seriously, before shrugging off his brief moment of concern. "Eh, I'll find a island soon enough." Today was the beginning of his adventure, and he'd be damned if he was going to let anything get him dow...
"What's that?" His eye were made to turn towards a brief flash of light, before dimming as it was replaced with a splash. "Whoa, mystery light!" Luffy concluded. "This must be an important part of my journey!" Using what little skill he had in keeping his boat afloat, he rowed towards the source of the glow, which was completely gone and in it's place various bubbles, as well as a hint of green for some reason. "Finally, lunch!" All thoughts on the 'mystery light' were gone as he stood up from his spot, reeling in his right arm as he had his left hold it steady. "Something big, better be something good."
In his make shift fishing rod, was a short green haired teen in a worn out, but otherwise cool looking( in the older teens eyes at least), costume. "Oh, its just some go." Luffy sighed in between disappointment and acceptance, dropping the kid on his boat. "Hey sea weed guy!" With no tact, or subtly, Luffy lightly kicked the drowning victim, ignoring the little 'ows' the green kid was spewing.
"Not the most painless wake up call I've gotten." The green kid blinked rapidly, struggling to get up and set himself steady. "But I oddly had worse."
"So was it a good fight?" The kid looked at him confused. "Your costume is all worn out and you look pretty beat up. So obviously, you had to be in a pretty rough fight." Luffy summarized. "Did you win at least?"
"I think so." The kid paused for a second to give it some serious thought. "I don't really remember what happened at the end. Chisaki was down before I blacked out at least." And then Eri's power went chaotically out of control and almost killed him, but now wasn't the time to dwell on that. "Thanks for..." He stared out at the endless horizon of clear blue water, making it obvious he was far, FAR from home. "Thanks for pulling me out, out of, wherever we are I guess."
"No problem!" Luffy gave a wide smile that the kid seemed oddly in awe of. "So were you the cause of that weird light going around? Cause that looked so cool!"
"Yes, no, partially." The green kid fumbled his words. "I was protecting this little girl, and her quirk went out of control, and it was good, for a while at least." A face of uncertainty crawled over him. "She was able to rewind my injuries, but is that all there is to it? Time Quirks aren't all that common.."
"Ah, I see! It's a mystery power!" Luffy nodded like he understood, though it was obvious most of what he said didn't make sense to him in the slightest.
"T-that's actually a pretty good description for it." The kid agreed. "Now, wh.." Before the kid could get anymore questions in, a sudden shift in the boat's course was felt by the two passengers, and it soon became clear exactly why that is. "What is that!?"
"I think that's a whirlpool. Looks fun!" Luffy exclaimed, before he started to climb into the empty barrel.
"What are you doing!?"
"I can't swim, so I have to find a way to float somehow!" He said like it was obvious. "Oh wait, you wouldn't be able to fit in here. Guess you're probably going to die!"
"That's not something to be happy about!" The kid freaked out. "Why'd did you set off to sea if you can't swim!? You should've at least gotten a bigger boat!"
"But it would've been less fun if I started off easy! I work hard for my adventure!"
'This is getting me nowhere'. The kid thought, looking towards his oncoming doom, and his fingers oddly enough. "I've only been able to raise my power up to 20% percent, but most of that power went into my legs. The bones in my arms are weaker, and if I'm off, I won't have recovery girl or anyone else capable of fixing me, but I'm about to..
KONK
"Why'd you hit me!?"
"Cause I felt like it." Luffy shrugged. "If you need to do something, than just do it! The only thing holding you back now is you."
"I.." He opened his mouth to protest, but backed down once the words fully hit. "Right. Go big or go home?"
"Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!"
If anything else, Midoriya wished he was capable of laughing off danger like that. Giving the most determined look he could summon, the aspiring hero kept his hands aimed at the space between the boat and the whirlpool. 'I'll just give it two fingers. Too much POWER and I'll force us into the water.' A green static surrounded his body, making the lankier of the two look with widened eyes. "DELEWARE SMASH!"
Two huge waves were suddenly formed from the short but powerful gusts of wind. The two found themselves flying to the side in their dingy vessel, but otherwise they were fine and as safe as they could ben. Midoriya reeled in his arms, flinching at the stinging sensation in his fingers. '15% seems to be my comfort zone, and 20 is my limit. Gotta think of a few finger exercises if I'm going master my long range attacks.' "You alright?"
"THAT WAS AWESOME!" Luffy cried out with starry eyes that Izuku only ever saw on the faces of super fans for the likes of All Might and Endeavor, so this was a point of pride for the green lad. "You did all that with just your fingers!?"
"Uh, well, yeah!" Izuku blushed. For all the progress he's made in his short time at U.A, praise and approval still seemed to be a foreign concept to the lad. "If I focus my Quirk and bring it to a high enough percentage, I can create gusts of wind.." Luffy wasn't paying attention, which Midoriya wouldn't have minded too much if his face wasn't getting so up close and personal. "Umm.."
"Join my crew!"
"...whaaaa?"
"I saved you from drowning, and you saved me from drowning! That means we work super well with each other! And your super strong, and got that weird lightning bouncing all over you, so you'll be able to keep up with me!"
"..I'm still lost here. What exactly are you offering?" Midoriya sat back down. "And uh, I just realized we don't know each other's names."
"Right! We need to know each other's names if we're going to be friends!"
"Huh?"
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy! The man who'll become King of the Pirates! Join my crew!"
Nothing made the hero in training's mind more numb than this very moment. Not even All Might's rather abrupt offering of his Quirk shut his brain off than the older teen's chipper offering, although the more he thought about it, the teen, apparently named Luffy, made it sound more like an order than anything else.
"Uh, okay, I'm Izuku Midoriya." The green lad said first, having a feeling that his life was going to be more complicated from now on. "And uh, thanks for, for, wait-wait, wait a moment! Did you, did you just say pirate?"
"Yep!"
"As is outlaws sailing the sees?"
"Uh huh!"
"Raising a Jolly Rodger, peg leg, eye patch wearing pirates?"
"That sounds about right."
The first thing Midoriya wanted to say was that this guy was crazy and probably spent a lot of time alone by himself, although if that was the case, than he had no right to call him out on it given his own lack of social development, but maybe it was the chipper tone, the wide-as-All-Might smile, or was he thought was a small concussion forming, but nothing in this guy's voice indicated some sort of joking matter. For some reason, Midoriya took Luffy's words seriously, as serious as he was about his own conviction to be a hero.
But this couldn't be right. Whether he meant Pirate in the more pop-culture, thrill seeker sense, or the more realistic bloody, scum of the earth, outright villain variety, the fact that he used the term Pirate didn't really add up. Getting a good look at the teen's clothes, he didn't scream anything malicious, but he also didn't really stnd out either. In fact, next to him in his old school, he might've been MORE plain looking than he was, the only thing sticking out would be the small scar under his eye and the old straw hat that hung over his head.
But the older boy sounded so sure, so cheerful in his declaration, like almost any child before the became teenagers.
Normal, the boy would've been shocked and flustered at the idea of anybody finding him exceptional at anything, let alone worthy enough to join a group and/or club, but Midoriya had grown up just enough to try and absorb the declaration at face value. "Won't that mean I'd be a criminal?"
"Pretty much."
'oh boy.'. Looked like nothing really fazed this guy. "Look, I'm flattered and all, but I got to.."
"Oh boy! We're saved!" Luffy attention turned to the grand a clean cruiser that was just before them. "Another ship means food! Come on, let's get going!"
"Wait, hold on!" Before Midoriya could protest, Luffy grabbed on to the collar of his shirt, and stretched out his arm to the other ship. "Whaaa...!"
"Gum-Gum ROCKET!" Soon, both figures were sent flying to the ships deck, promptly crashing into a wall, which for Midoriya was slightly less painful due to landing on Luffy's surprisingly squishy body. "Woo-hoo! I actually made it that time!"
"Why doesn't that surprise me?" Izuku muttered sarcastically as he picked himself up, almost forgetting the millions of questions that were going through his head at the moment. "Wait, how did we get here!? Is long arms you power!?"
"No way! That's just silly!" Luffy laughed with a 'shishishishi'. "I'm a rubber man!"
"A rubber man? So your whole body is made out of rubber? That's sounds amazing!"
"I know right! Ace always says it was useless, but I'm super strong!"
As Midoriya continued to ponder the million applications that could be accomplished with such an ability, he didn't have time to notice the small, pink ship that was sailing right beside the cruise ship, or the commotion that was being caused by the invading pirate. His attention was completely set on Luffy that he hardly bothered to noticed his apparent new friend was trying to lead his way to the kitchen.
"Finally, we made it!" Luffy noticed a door and proceeded to kick it open with all the might of a baby rhino. "Where's the meat!?"
"Luffy! You can't just bust open the kitchen door! Somebody could've been.." He noticed three other occupants in the kitchen, their eye wide and their jaws somehow managing to reach all the way to the ground (Midoriya briefly assumed they must've had a quirk similar to Luffy. "..in the.." A fourth occupant was on the far side of the kitchen, unconscious, with the door laying right on top of him. "Is it too late for sorry?"
"Monster!" The other's screamed, the loudest being the small, pink haired kid.
"I thought Alvida was taking care of the other the passengers!" One of the other's says. "What are you doing here!?"
"I got hungry." Luffy, seemingly unaware that his life was probably on the line, went to the table and began munching on the various foods that were layed out. "Not much meat, but I'll take what I can get."
Midoriya couldn't find it in himself to rationalize anything that was going on, half because of his exhaustion, the other half being Luffy's ignorance. All he could focus on was the timid older gentlemen that were slowly making their way towards the red shirted lad, with both their swords held up high.
"You damn brat!" They yelled, raising their swords high. "This is a pirate raid, and the first rule is anyone who fails to comply dies!" Charging at Luffy, they swung down, the red shirted teen's only reaction being a small raising of his own arm, as if it were a shield.
"Look ou..!"
Smack.
The swords upon impact broke in a instant. Everyone in the room was in complete disbelief, worry, or both, as Luffy simply shrug as if it were nothing. "That's not nice."
"Who are you!?"
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy!" He responded, taking their question and responding without any sense of sarcasm. "Nice to meet you!"
'Either those swords were extremely dull, or the elasticity of his body gives him thicker skin. Either way, he knows how to use his strengths.' Midoriya mused, feeling more and more admiration for the teen, as the others dragged away their unconscious crewmate out of the kitchen as fast as they could, struggling to prevent themselves from tripping over out of fear. "Uh, should we try to stop them?"
"Nah, those guys were weak. The wont try to bother us again." Luffy blurted, his attention now turning to the pink haired kid with glasses who was shivering. "So were you with those guys?"
"N-not, not by choice, but yeah. I-I'm Coby." He stuttered. "Wait! What about you! Y-You-Your in danger! You both are!" He grabbed Luffy by the arm and attempted to drag him out. "I'm grateful you got rid of those guys, but you have to leave now! If you don't go, Alvida will come after you!"
"Who's Alvida?" A question both Midoriya and Luffy shared.
"Only one of the scariest pirate captains to set sail on the east blue!" Luffy slowly nodded his head at this information while Izuku thought it best to not say anything. More mentions of Pirates and a place called the east blue, concepts that to him were either out of date or non-existent, so either he was doing worse in school history than he realized, or there was something more here that he wasn't getting. "One hit from her Iron Club, and you're done for!"
"Sounds exciting!" Luffy cheered, before his stomach growled. "Oh wait, I'm still hungry. Can't fight on an empty stomach!"
Coby could help but tilt his head. "Is he always like this?" He motioned to Izuku.
"Pretty sure he is, although I wouldn't really know. I just met this guy today." He admitted. "I'm Izuku Midoriya."
"O-okay, well, if you're still hungry, I'm pretty sure there's a pantry around here." The trio wandered for a bit, going into the deeper decks of the ship before entering a small room filled to the brim with grains, flour and Apples, which apparently seemed to be Luffy's fruit of choice. In half a minute, he scarfed down half a barrel, and was making strides in finishing off in half the time. "It's like seeing a bottomless pit come to life."
Izuku had to wonder if having a rubber body had anything to do with it, but pushed aside that question for later. "So, Coby, exactly what are you doing here? You don't seem like the Pirate type.." He looked to Luffy. "..at least compared to the other guys."
"I'm, I-I never really chose to be a Pirate, but I wasn't really given an option." Coby sighed. "On that fateful day, 2 years ago, I was out on a fishing boat like any normal day, but as fate would have it, it turned out to belong Alvida and her crew. By the time I realized this, we already arrived at her ship and the shore was too far away for me to swim! So it was either join or die."
"So you're a moron." Luffy concluded, picking his nose.
"Luffy!" Izuku chastised, but Coby put his hand up.
"No, he's right. Alvida spared my life only because she needed a janitor, and I've been stuck literally doing the dirty work ever since."
"Well, if you hate it so much, why don't you leave?" Izuku suggested. "I mean, if you're stuck on her ship, I can understand why you can't just run, but right now kinda seems like the perfect time to escape."
"No, no no!" Coby shouted as if the idea was insane. "If I ever escaped, Alvida would hunt me down to the ends of the earth! No, no, I'm better off keeping my head down for now."
"So you're a moron and a coward? I hate people like you, shishishisishishi!"
'So blunt!'. The two boys thought at the same time. While Luffy may have had no tact whatsoever, Izuku knew there was a certain point in Luffy's words he couldn't help but agree with. In fact, hearing Coby's story made him think about how he use to be back before he met All Might. The stuttering, the timidness, given the situation, Midoriya probably would've found himself doing the exact same thing as Coby. Being surrounded by people that constantly put you down, being given no chance to succeed, and get laughed at for even trying. "Hey Coby, do you, do you have a dream?"
"Dreams?" Luffy leaned in curiously at the mention of the word.
"M-m-my, my dream?" Coby pondered. "I-I, I want to be a great marine!"
"Marine?"
"Yeah! I want to be a strong marine that sails the seas and puts away bad guys like Alvida!" Coby stood up, and for a brief momment, signs of someone braver shown, before being immediately deflated. "Bu-but that's impossible now, clearly.."
Bonk
"Why'd you hit me?!" He directed at Luffy. "Well, not, not that I'm not use to it already."
"Cause I felt like it. You keep complaining on and on about how much you hate being here. It's annoying." Luffy stood up. "So you're telling me you're unwilling to work for your dreams just because you're a little scared!? With a half-assed conviction like that, you'll die and no one would ever know or care. Tell me, is that the kind of mark you want to leave on the world?"
Both boys once again found themselves silent at the enigma that was Luffy. In such a short amount of time, Luffy, despite his rude behavior, manage spark inspiration within the both of them. "What's your dream then, Luffy?" Coby wondered.
"My dream is to become King of the Pirates!" Midoriya wondered how many times Luffy told that to people in a day, since it felt like something he said pretty often, probably more often than Kachaan said 'die'.
"The Pir-pirate King? You're a Pirate too!?"
"Uh-huh."
"B-but, to be the Pirate King, you'd have to have wealth, fame, power, you'd need to own everything the world has to offer!" Coby stammered, and Izuku had a bad feeling in his gut when Coby seemed to be pretty familiar with the term 'Pirate King'. "To be the King, you'd have to find the legendary treasure: The One Piece!"
"One Piece?" Izuku said quietly, making sure to not get the attention of the others, already feeling more out of place than ever.
"Of course! And I'm going to find it!"
"No, no, no, no! You're, you're insane! Your dream is insane! Th-there's absolutely no way this is possible! Every Pirate around the world is looking for that treasure! And, and even if it turns out to be real, there's no way for people like you to stand on top in this great pirate era! It's, it's not possible! Not-not Possi.."
bonk
"I deserve that." Coby whined, feeling the giant bruise forming on his head.
"I don't care about any of that stuff." Luffy sat down, and placing his straw hat in his hands. "A long time ago, I made a promise that I would be the King of the Pirates. For me, it's not about if I can do it, it's about what I do to achieve my dream! And if I die, I die. That's better then never trying at all."
"Wow." Was all Izuku could say. Even if he totally didn't understand the Pirate King concept, from what he gathered, it sounded like a great title, one almost akin to All Might's title of 'Symbol of Peace'. From the sounds of it, it seemed that both he and Luffy were fighting uphill battles for their goals, both starting with practically nothing but their dreams and determination. "He's right." Coby turned to Izuku. "My dream is to save everyone in need, to shine a smile so bright that they'll have nothing to fear anymore. For most of my life, I was mocked for my dream until I was given the chance to prove myself. So, if you were given the chance to leave, would you try?
"If I try..?" Coby processed, turning back to Luffy. "Even, even if this means we'll be enemies, do you think I could be a Marine?!"
"I don't know. It's not my choice to make." Luffy simply stated.
"Then I'll do it!" Riled up, Coby held himself high. "Yeah, that's right, I'm not going to be stuck as a cabin boy for the rest of my life! I'll make my mark on the world and become a Marine! And once I do, the first pirate I lock will be..!"
"WILL BE WHAT, COBY?" Smashing through the deck, a large, blubbery figure fell through. With the dust settling, the three were able to identify the bulbous person as female carrying a large spike black mace. Midoriya noted how this figure fit the more traditional image of the standard pirate, voice and all. "You think you can escape my crew, with the help of a couple of twigs!?" Swords from the entrance of the pantry started sticking out, preventing the two non-members from escaping, and instead of giving into small panic like Midoriya, Luffy causally avoided the swords, more invested in Coby's confrontation with his so-called Captain.
"Well, answer me!?" Alvida demanded of Coby, taking delight in the shrimps habitual terror of herself, before setting an unimpressed gazed at the other two. "Given how scrawny and young you are, my guess is that neither of you are the infamous Pirate hunter Zoro." The two gave a confused look at the mention of the bounty hunter. "Coby, delight our guess as to who the most beautiful lady on of the seas is?" She asked out of no where.
'Is she being serious?' Izuku couldn't help but cringe. Not to insult women or anything, but she was far from tolerable in terms of appearance, and that was putting it mildly. 'Doesn't look like we're going to be able to avoid a fight, but maybe if we play along, we can but some time..'
"Who's the fat lady, Coby?" Luffy asked, and immeditely dozens of Jaws were dropped, from Coby, to Alvida's entire crew, and even Midoriya. Any and everyman knew, aside from Luffy apparently, that the quickest way to make a woman angry was to insult their appearance. All men around them could only share one single thought:
"What a dumbass!"
Blood vessals burst from Alvida's face. "You! Damn! Ruuuunnt!" She hoisted up her mace, and slammed it down where Luffy stood.
Unfortunately for her, the lanky lad happened to process sharp senses and quick reflexes. "Oh well, time to go!" Luffy grabbed ahold of both Midoriya and Coby, and with an impressive jump, they leapt onto the deck, being surrounded by more of Alivda's men.
"We're surrounded!" Coby yelled.
"Good. That means we can fight them all in one place!" Luffy cheered, signaling Midoriya. "You up for a little fight?"
"Not that we have a choice." Midoriya rolled his eyes, just accepting the teens happy demeanor.
And with that, the fight set off. Believing he was the weakest, most of the Pirates charged towards Luffy, one swing a sword to behead him, only for Luffy to bend backwrds and knock him down with a single stroke, before quickly leaping and landing a solid punch on another guy, in mid air.
'Clearly this isn't his first fight, and he isn't even using his quirk.' Izuku habit to analyze almost takes over, before he notices another guy comming down on Luffy from behind. "Oh no you don't!" Getting his own mid-air action, Izuku twisted his body and angled it into the right position. "MANCHESTER SMASH!" The foot landed solidly into the man's stomach, before being launched like a cannon into his crewmates. "No fighting behind the back!"
"You're strong too!?" Coby screamed. "How'd-How-How'd y-you do that!"
"That, that was just my Quirk?" He asked more so then told, not sure why that would be confusing.
"Your what now?"
"Hey, it isn't fair to gang up on a guy either!" Luffy yelled out, and the two saw that indeed, Luffy was being chased down the deck with a horde of Pirate on his tail. "Give me a second!" He grabbed onto a random pole, but still chose to run as his arm stretched out more and more. The silly and uncanny sight of such a ludicrous act hit the pirates so hard that they had no other choice but to stare in shock. "Hah! Gotcha!" Figuring out what he had in mind, the Pirates tried to run, but the effort was fruitless once Luffy stopped resisting his arm's pull. "GUM GUM ROCKET!" And like a bowling ball, the pirates were mowed over easily with a single shred of sweat.
"Wh-what are you?" Coby asked with a ghost of a whisper.
"I'm a rubber man!"
"Rubber, you say?" Alvida turned up from behind them, now with a more interested but menacing glare. "I take it that you ate of the Devil Fruits?"
"Yeah! I ate the Gum-Gum fruit!"
"Devil Fruits?" Midoriya paled, the idea of quirks coming from fruits of all things seemed so silly, yet two of the people here talked about it as if it were a sure thing. The fact that Coby seemed confused by his mention of a Quirk made him worry more. His head was now starting to form a theory that was starting to sound a lot less theoretical as time went on.
"I have only heard rumors that they existed, but I've never seen one myself, or any evidence that proved them real. Coupled with your fighting prowess, you seem more skilled than the average deck swabber. Tell me, are you a bounty hunter."
"No way! I'm a pirate!"
"A pirate? Alone on these waters?"
"Hey, I'm not alone, I have Izu-zu here!" He pointed to Midoriya. "I met him today, and now he's my first mate!"
"An idea we still haven't talked about yet!" Izuku clarified, although at this point, it didn't seem like it was worth fight over.
"One measly crewmate!?" Alvida scoffed.
"That's just today. Tomorrow, I'll find the rest. Or next week. I'm thinking about ten guys. Maybe twelve. Or thirteen. Max thirteen, but not a man more."
"So I'm guessing whatever success you've had so far was due to dumb luck." Alvida concluded. "Tell me something, brat; we're both pirate that don't sail under the same flag. That would make us enemies now, wouldn't it?"
"Luffy! Izuku! We need to head out of here now!" Coby pleaded. "We can't win against her Iron Mace! In all the villainy in the East Blue, she is by far.." A sudden hesitation came over the kid, remembering back what the two older boys told him earlier.
"A long time ago, I made a promise that I would be the King of the Pirates. For me, it's not about if I can do it, it's about what I do to achieve my dream! And if I die, I die. That's better then never trying at all."
"My dream is to save everyone in need, to shine a smile so bright that they'll have nothing to fear anymore. For most of my life, I was mocked for my dream until I was given the chance to prove myself. So, if you were given the chance to leave, would you try?'
"Well Coby?" Alvida interrupted, still thinking she had the chicken under her thumb. "By far what?"
Coby stopped himself from shaking, and took in a big, probably last breath. "BY FAR THE FATTEST, UGLIEST PIECE OF CRAP THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN!"
"WHAT!?"
"YOU HEARED ME, OR ARE YOUR EARS TOO FULL OF BLUBBER TO UNDERSTAND!" Coby ranted off, while his former 'crew' all started to white an obituary for the brat that clearly went insane after two years of slavery. "I'M LEAVING YOUR SCUMMY CREW, AND I'M JOINING THE MARINES! AND I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE TO HUNT YOUR UGLY ASS DOWN TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!" Luffy showed his approval by laughing with his mouth wide open, while Izuku, ever the more rational of the two, somehow, gave a smile of pride, glad that the pink haired lad finally found some courage.
"YOUR DEAD!" She raised her club again, and this time, Coby stood his ground, even if he cried in terro as he did so.
"No regrets, no regrets! You said what you needed to and you have no regrets!" He muttered quickly before bracing himself, praying to whoever would listen to get him out of here.
"SMASH!" Izuku, before anyone could blink, threw an uppercut at the incoming weapon, snapping it in half as the glow of green lightning danced araound his face, which now held a feral smile. "You're not getting in the way of Coby's dreams ever again!"
"Well said of a member of my crew!" Luffy cheered, reeling his arm back and aiming it at the now defensless Alvida. "GUM-GUM...PISTOL!" In no time at all, the Pirate Captain was launched high in the air by Luffy's blow to her stomach. No one dared to approach the trio anymore less that get the same treatment."
'They way he fights, every move he's made he's trained to work alongside his powers! Compensating for the bounce, the recoil, even how far he stretches to get maximum force out of a single punch!' Izuku so wished he had his notebook now, never seeing a hero back home fight quite like this. It almost reminded the green teen of Mirio, who's intense training allowed him to make the most out of a seemingly useless or troublesome quirk. "He's amazing!"
Though thinking about Mirio made him think about Overhaul, about Nighteye, Eri, Uraraka, Aizawa, Kachaan, his Mom. He knew Nighteye was in pretty bad shape before he left his sight, and he still didn't know if Overhaul was down for the count. What if he got back up? What if the others were caught in a cave in? What if the League of Villains showed up afterwards? What if his mom found out he was missing and cried herself to dehydration!?
"Hey, Izuzu!" Izuku was thrown out of his thoughts by the sound of his voice, and the shaking of what sounded like cannon fire. Looking up, he could see what appeared to be naval ships firing towards them. Down below, Izuku saw both Luffy and Coby calling him down from a small sailboat. "We need to head out now! We're Pirates, and they don't exactly mesh well with Marines."
Midoriya thought for a moment and sighed. There were certainly worst people he couldn't crashed into, and from the looks of it so far, he seemed to get the only decent person around for miles.
And he helped save a kid. That immediately made him a good person in Izuku's book, Pirate or Hero, or whatever he decided to call himself.
"Coming..Captain." The title made the straw hat boy gleam in excitement as Izuku jumped from the boat to the smaller vessel, his eyes briefly catching a glance at a red-headed girl sailing in the opposite direction. Paying no heed to it for now, the three were able to sail away unseen and unscathed, allowing them to catch their breath from this little excursion.
"I can't believe we were able to escape undetected." Coby breathed a little easier for the first time in years. "Thank you. Both of you."
"No problem!" Luffy shrugged. "My first pirate adventure, and I've already made new friends, and got a crewmate!" Luffy announced, and Izuku just gave a small smile and accepted it. "Say Coby, you guys mentioned a Pirate Hunter earlier?"
"Huh, oh right!" Coby explained. "Roranoa Zoro. He's a pretty infamous bounty hunter around the East Blue, though the last time I checked, he was held up in a Marine Base on Shells Town."
"Oh, a weakling then?" Luffy assumed with a little disapointment.
"No way! Zoro's said to be a merciless demon that leaves a trail of bodies in his wake! He's dangerous and unpredictable! Why would you wonder about him?"
"Because he sounds interesting! I'd like to get a look at this demon for myself!" Luffy proclaimed. "If he's a nice guy, then I'll invite him on the crew!"
"WHAT!" Coby screamed again. "He's the last person you want on your crew! He hunts Pirates, and I know we just met, but I don't want to see my friend cut to pieces! Tell him Izuku! Tell him he's being crazy!"
Midoriya felt awkward with all the attention now turned to him. "W-well, it does sound like a bad idea.."
"Thank you!"
"B-but I assumed at first being a pirate meant being a terrible person, and Luffy proved that wrong." Luffy grinned at that. "So we really can't assume until we see for ourselves, r-right, Captain?"
"That's right! Now, let's set sail for Clams Town!"
"Shells Town!" Coby argued. "And even if you get him to agree, there's no way you can trust him! He hunts Pirates!"
"So do Marines, but I trust you."
"That's different! You can't, it's just not possib..."
BONK.
"Why'd you hit me?"
"Cause I felt like it."
As the two's arguing faded into the background, Izuku just stared aimlessly at the sky, realizing all that's happen today was real. And unless he was completely off track, there was only one explanation.
'I'm in another world."
