Chapter Fourteen: In Which Ginny Is Responsible
Then he started to tell them everything. For nearly a quarter of an hour he spoke into the rapt silence: He told them about the disembodied voice, how Hermione finally realised that he was hearing a basilisk in the pipes.
He told them everything.
Professor McGonagall turned to look at Ginny, "What I would like to know, Miss Weasley, is why you didn't think to inform a teacher as soon as you realised the diary was making you do things against your will? Even if you thought the diary was destroyed when you flushed it, why didn't you tell someone when you realised Mr Potter had come across the diary? Why did you waste precious time stealing the diary back?"
Everyone stared at Ginny.
"I - er - tried to tell Harry but -"
"According to both Mr Potter and Mr Weasley, you ran away because Percy Weasley interrupted. Why couldn't you try telling them later? Didn't you consider it important enough, perhaps?"
Ginny didn't reply.
"I'm sorry, Mrs Weasley, but your daughter is not in any way innocent in this matter. She chose not to tell anyone about the diary after she came out of its grasp. She knew she was being controlled and had performed the attacks, but she didn't think to tell anyone about it. I presume you gave her the talk?"
"Now see here, professor-"
"Did you or did you not?"
"I - I did," Mrs Weasley said, mollified.
"Miss Weasley, can you confirm that you have been told about mind control and the Imperius?"
"Yes," Ginny squeaked.
"Then the responsibility lies on her shoulders. I expect the Ministry will need to investigate this. . . ."
AN: Before everyone starts shouting, you should know my reasons:-
1)Ginny gets the diary, and she starts writing in it. It writes back. Sounds reasonable.
2)Ginny notices she is missing periods of time and finding rooster feathers and blood on her robes. This is not* reasonable! Go immediately to a teacher!
3)Even if we chalk that up to possession, after she flushed the diary and the she wasn't possessed anymore, she should have gone to a teacher! Not reasonable anymore!
4) Lastly, she found the diary in perfect condition with Harry. Tell a teacher! Tell someone!
She had whole months to tell someone whole people were Petrified. Why. Didn't. She?
