Author's Note
I do not own Kim Possible.
"Clothes don't transform with you then I take it, Pumpkin?" Shego said with a wry grin.
"I… shrink out of them," Kim admitted, and promptly turned back into a cat. Shego sighed and stood.
"Wait here."
She fetched a blanket from the cupboard in the hall, tossing it over the cat as she reentered the room. "There. Second time round."
The small lump grew under the blanket. Kim sat up, clutching it around herself. "Thanks."
Her shaking was worse this time, her hands turning white where she gripped the blanket. A sweaty white sheen masked her face.
"No problem," Shego replied. "Don't worry, I've seen my fair share."
Kim turned a violent shade of red. "Yeah, so has just about everyone else I know." She cringed. "I'm never going to be able to look the Tweebs in the face again."
Shego choked on her laughter. "Alright Princess, if time's limited, question time."
Kim closed her eyes. "Okay, number two, Wade managed to track you down a year ago but we didn't think it was worth advertising since you weren't active or hurting anyone. Number three, GJ wants me to perform for study; they've no interest in a cure. When I said no…" She shook her head.
"Director try to lock you up did she?"
Kim frowned at her. "How did you..?"
"She tried the same thing with us. Me and my brothers I mean. Except Hego was so interested in playing old school hero he didn't want any part in it, and, well…" She shrugged. "You try locking up Hego."
Kim grimaced. "I can imagine. I never knew."
"They don't publicize the downside."
Team Go had played to enough people's - and politicians' - good sides that the military and their pet agencies had been forced to back off. Especially considering there was almost nowhere capable of holding them in or out if they didn't want to be there. Shego held no doubt that even now (maybe especially now), if some government agency tried to lock her up for study, her brothers would do something stupid and heroic, like try to rescue her.
"Go on."
Kim nodded, licking her lips. "Number four, I really don't know. We've been trying for a week now, no luck. The tweebs are trying to replicate the effect in the hopes it can be reverse engineered, but apparently Drakken actually managed to make something competent this time."
"Probably a fluke."
Kim laughed. "Numbers five and six, a lot. Meat is best, because… uh, cat, but, just, a lot. I eat a lot."
"Got it. And number one?"
Kim sighed. "Because you're you. You're the safest person in the world to be with."
"Well, thanks for the complement, but that doesn't really answer the question."
Kim's cheeks turned pink. "Look. I can't hold this long. It's hard enough to hold it just like this. I can fight in very short bursts, but eventually…"
Eventually she was going to spontaneously turn back into a lickle kitty cat, at which point she'd be a much easier target.
"I really do just need a place to hide for a while, but if it came down to it…" She shrugged.
"So you want me to play bodyguard?"
"Pretty much. Like I said, I don't think it should come to that. No one knows where I've gone, and Wade's the only other person that knows where you are."
"What about Stoppable?"
Kim winced. "Still in Japan, finishing up his studies. We… we broke up a while ago. He's still my best friend, it just… didn't work out. And I didn't want to drag him out of his university early for this when he finishes in a few weeks anyway."
"And what's to stop me flash frying you, Kitty?"
Kim rolled her eyes. "One, that would interfere with your retirement. And two, how does killing a cat prove you're better than me?"
Straight to rights there. For so many years Shego had wanted nothing more than to prove she was better than Kimmie. She had to be. Beating her as a cat… Well, that would hardly count.
"Touche." Shego leant back in her chair. "Alright. Fine. It's not like I have many allies."
Kim grinned. "Thanks Shego! You're the best."
"I know." She held a hand up. "Two conditions."
