Where was Erestor when the dwarves were in Rivendell? Hiding of course. But one day he makes the almost-fatal error of leaving his library, and things take a turn for the worse.

AU: A twist in fate allows the line of Durin to survive on the top of Ravenhill. For once Kili isn't the one needing to be saved, or is he?

The gist being that Mahal and Yavanna, creators of the dwarves and Hobbits respectively, come to our world, tell a nerd, "hey, pack a bag because Middle Earth needs you. Save all the ones who die." And then drop her on bilbos doorstep at the start of the hobbit. Only they forgot to tell her that no one speaks english.
