As the sun was slowly rising in the east, the clocks ticked over to six o clock. And with the changing of time came an obnoxious beeping. Rising from his slumber like the dead, Jaune Arc stretched his arms out and let out a mighty yawn.
The young Knight swung his legs over the edge and stood from his bunk. Only to trudge towards and into team JNPR's shared bathroom.
Jaune began today like any other day, by taking care of his bodily hygiene. Once clean and refreshed, he checked his scroll for messages.
'Let's see' he thought, 'a message from Pyrrha, one from Ren, a stupid emoji message from Yang, and a summons from Goodwitch. Am I getting punished because Nora destroyed something again?!'
Sighing to himself, the young man decided to start the day with some breakfast. As he left JNPR's room, he was greeted by the sound of a door opening and closing across the hall. Coming chest plate to face with his former crush.
"Good morning, Jaune", Weiss said in a cheerful tone, "how are you doing today?" "I'm fine, are the others are out in Vale already? Replied the knight.
"I believe so, Ruby and Yang refused to shut up about a sister day, and Blake is on a not so secret date with Sun" responded Weiss. "And your team?"
"Pyrrha has manager stuff to deal with, and I presume Nora drug Ren off to breakfast". Said Jaune, shrugging his shoulders, "and you, any plans for today?"
"I'm actually going to meet Neptune for an outing" she sang. Weiss preened with excitement, she'd never been allowed to just go out with a boy. At least, not without some form of ulterior motive.
Jaune sighed while looking at his scroll. "I gotta summons from Goodwitch, I'm hoping I'm not gonna get the third degree for whatever Nora destroyed last week" he complained.
"It probably won't be that bad", encourage Weiss, "however I must be off, I wouldn't want to be late to my date." he watched her practically float down the hallway. "Yeah sure", grumbled Jaune,"because I'm the luckiest guy I know, but first breakfast, then death.
After the longest meal of his life, he wasn't stalling, he stood before Goodwitches office. Taking a deep breath, he inched his hand forward to rap his knuckles upon the door. After three decent knocks, he waits. And then from within the chamber, the beast bellows a response.
"Please, come in" Goodwitch responds. Upon entering the office, he was surprised to find it bathed in a warm earthy color pallet with bright colors scattered throughout, instead of the bland and boring greys and whites.
The more he looked around, the more normal teacher things he found. Like the page a day calendar, with funny cat pictures on it, or the assortment of colorful and encouraging posters. But what he found most surprising was the cacophony of photos taped to the far wall. All of them containing the professor and her students on their graduation day all smiling.
However, he wasn't blind to the small bonsai tree in the corner, neatly trimmed and maintained. There were small stones laid at the base of the tree, each one had a name engraved into it. Presumably of a student that had fallen to the creatures of Grimm during a mission. A sad reminder of reality and the reason she pushes them so hard.
"Mister Arc, if you are finished examining my office, we have business to attend to." Chitted Goodwitch,"now, it has come to my attention that you already have a driver's license, is that correct"? "Uhh, yes ma'am, I have my license already", he answered.
"Good, because you're going to be my assistant for the foreseeable future" the professor replied. "What do you mean I'm going to be your assistant and why does it matter if I already have my driver's license" he asked.
"Driver's ed and license testing are all things that are required to graduate. Ironically, you are the only first year to have an active driver's license. Therefore you are the only choice I have" Glynda answered him.
"So what would this entail, like what would I have to do", he wondered aloud, " wait, I'm not going to have to give license tests am I"!
"No, you will not be giving the tests. I will however require you to ride along for them in case one of the students can't finish their test. you will also be acting as a tutor for the driver's ed portion, is that understood". With a nod of his head, Goodwitch continued.
"Now driver's ed classes will start this upcoming Tuesday a five o'clock. There will be class every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the next three months, don't be late" warned the professor. Another nod. "Good we will begin testing the following weeks, so be prepared."
Glynda removed her glasses to massage the bridge of her nose."There going to be a lot of students, at least a third in each class. That includes your teammates and friends. I need you to take this seriously, do you understand." She said while giving him the I'm not playing around look. "Yes, ma'am I promise to do my best." he replied. "Good, you may enjoy the rest of your weekend Mr. Arc."
