Part 21

A/N: I am so sorry, it has been a long time since I've posted. Long story short: School started. New school, a bunch of new stuff, and doing my best to stay on top of my classes. On another note, as an apology, you'll get at least 5 chapters today, probably more. I have an hour to kill, and I'm using it to apologize to all my readers for ghosting you. Haloween soon, cheesy pun (that only my dad would use) intended. Other than that, I'm back to scheduled posting. I will be posting a chapter once a week, or more often. But you can be guaranteed that a week from when I post the last chapter, there will be another one. Or sooner. As a side note, I am cross-posting this to AO3 (that's Archive Of Our Own), my username is slytherclawgurl there, or you can check it out on my profile. Enjoy the story, and please, please, please review.

A/N: Yeah, I know, Jane Foster ends up being very OOC. Whoops.

Jane Foster needs a drink.

Jane Foster jumped up from her notes as she heard a light pop and saw Dacy appearing where she had not been a moment ago, like teleportation. "Darcy?!''

Darcy bent over huffing to catch in air, as if she had just ran for miles. Her poker face was flickering, revealing poorly disguised nervousness ordering on fear. She closed her eyes, and it was as if the expression melted off her face, a calm, happy facade coming up, her eyes back open. Jane noticed Darcys' eyes were grey, as usual, except a moment ago, they weren't, although she could't for the life of her remember what they were. Darcy tapped her silver bracelet, the one Jane had never seen her take off. "Reset, Blackwell Manor." It flashed gold, and a smile made its way onto Darcy's face. "Jane, sorry I-"

Jane interrupted her intern. "Darcy Lewis, you just teleported into my lab, breaking just about every single law of Physics I can think of, I think I have the right to know what is going on." She put her hands on her hips and her serious glaring face on. She was going to study this method of teleportation, and nothing could stop her now.

Darcy's face had an obviously, vey fake smile. "Jane, look, I was just captured and interrogated by SHIELD's top boss. I just need a drink."

That was not what Jane expected, but she led Darcy over to the couch nearby. Although she had been receiving research grants from SHIELD, specifically for einstein-rosen bridges, she held no illusions as to what other branches of the organization did."Are you alright? Did they do anything to you?"
"The worst they did was bring in a telepath, but he's a friend, so I know the actual information inside my mind is safe."

"Darcy…. I have to ask. Why would SHIELD interrogate you? Puente Antigua was a year ago, and we all gave statements, and neither of us have been anywhere near New York, or Thor and the rest of the Avenger's fight there. And either way, that was four months ago and I'm the one who got their research grants, not you."

"It's not that. They just did some digging into my paperwork and tried to get information from me about my dad."

"Is your dad like…"

"He's not evil, or Hydra, or any such thing. He isn't exactly normal either, so it was a necessity to take some, roundabout ways to get paperwork."

"So you mean forgeries? Was your dad on the run from somebody?"

"Jane, I would love to share all this with you, but I truly can't. Like it or not, SHIELD is powerful, and so are many others. And while SHIELD is at least partially controlled by the UN, many others are not.. I'm not saying any guesses of yours aer true or not, because I don't want you to get kidnapped because you know these things."

"Alright. I don't want to get kidnapped either. But what is it with that teleportation? That should really be impossible."

"I would just say magic, but then again, it kind of is, the level of technology and the energy used to power it."

"Can I run some tests?" Jane asked, excitedly.

"Jane, I've tried myself, the machines you use will explode." Darcy's mood sobered up again. "But just in case, I've already told you more than I've told SHIELD. I can't put you in danger like that."

Wondering what her friend and intern meant, Jane met Darcy's eyes. Darcy met them, and whispered, "Obliviate."

Jane steadied herself. "Darcy. Why do I feel so…"

"Jane, I think you pulled an all nighter overworking. Again." Darcy said, exasperated as Jane allowed her friend to pull her to her bed for some rest she really felt like she needed.
