Disclaimer: I own none of the rights to Harry Potter. I've had this idea forever and I really wanted to publish it so I'm glad I finally have. Not sure how fast the updates will be but I'm almost done with the next chapter.

November 1st, 1981

"Next we have Sirius Orion Black," One of the guards called in as they led a miserable looking man into the court room. He was pale with bags under his eyes and his usually well kept hair was tangled, clinging to his sweaty forehead. Sirius Black looked so unlike himself that he was almost unrecognizable.

The guards forced him into a cage at the center of the courtroom so he could wait for the judgement of his fellow wizards.

"The accused is being charged with the killing of twelve muggles and one wizard. A wizard by the name of Peter Pettigrew," Bartimus Crouch announced in a clear and even tone as he looked indifferently at the man who stood before him. Sirius Black who Barty had hated with a distinct passion for the past five years.

His son-in-law.

"He is also standing accused of being one of Voldemort's most fierce followers."

"I didn't do it!" Sirius Black cried out in desperation. "I swear I didn't, Barty! I didn't kill those muggles and I would've never betrayed James and Lily!"

"It is also noted that Sirius Black was the Potters' secret keeper and betrayed them to Voldemort which lead to the death of James and Lily Potter," Barty said, pointedly ignoring Sirius's pleas.

It was well known that Barty's daughter Valeria Black(nee Crouch) had run away from home after her sixth year to be with Sirius who her father had forbid her from seeing. Everyone knew Valeria had been Barty's favorite child, after all.

Barty Crouch Jr. had been an increasing disappointment to his father his whole life. His grade's were never as high as Valeria's and he couldn't even make it on to the Slytherin Quidditch team like Valeria made chaser on the Gryffindor's team during her second year. Not to mention the boy clung to his mother's skirt as Barty made a habit of remarking about.

However, during Valeria's fifth year she fell madly in love with Sirius Black who Barty hated with immense passion. Not for his fanatical family but for Black's astounding slacking nature, immaturity, and knack for getting into trouble. He subsequently forbid his daughter from seeing Sirius Black, the first time he denied his daughter anything, and Valeria ran away from him.

Barty, despite his wife's pleas, refused to see his daughter again. His daughter then married Sirius Black and gave birth to a daughter in May of the previous year. Barty's daughter also died just a few days prior meaning that Barty never got to make amends with his daughter.

"That's not true! I wasn't the secret keeper!" Sirius shouted and Barty struggled not to launch himself at that man and hex him out of this universe. He lost his darling because of that man. That man probably even killed her. Barty wouldn't be surprised.

"He's currently under investigation for the murder of Valeria Black," Barty continued to call out to the rest of the courtroom. Sirus gripped the bars of his cage tightly as he desperately pleaded with the man he knew hated him above all else.

"Barty, I would never hurt her!" Sirius told him, close to tears at this point. In a matter of a few days, everything had been taken away from him. His two best friends, his wife, and now his daughter all alone somewhere without her mother and father. Probably not too differently from how Harry Potter was faring as well. "If you don't believe me about anything else at least because me about that. I loved her! I couldn't have hurt her!"

"Investigation of the extent Sirius Black's actions as spy for Voldemort is still pending as well as his suspected hand in Valeria Black's murder," Barty continued to say coldly, showing no emotion to Sirius Black's pleas. "However, since there is more than enough evidence in regards to Mr. Black's massacre of twelve muggles and Peter Pettigrew that we have enough for conviction."

"So I hereby sentence Sirius Orion Black to life in Azkaban," Barty announced loudly much to the shock of everyone else in the courtroom. Sirus felt his stomach drop at the announcement of his sentence.

"No trial?!" Rita Skeeter asked in surprise, clearly surprised that Sirius Black wouldn't get a trial. The man had been more adamant than most other Death Eaters in the denial of his allegiance towards Voldemort. Not to mention known Death Eaters were getting trials. Even Lucius Malfoy who was using an Imperious Curse defense.

"The evidence against Mr. Black is overwhelming. A trial is pointless," Barty declared and Sirius still stood in shock. He thought he would at least have a chance at a trial. A chance to prove that he didn't kill those muggles and betray James and Lily. Now he wouldn't even have that. Barty then locked eyes with his son-in-law. "I hope you use your time in Azkaban to think about the lives you took and the lives you ruined although there will never be any recompense for the havoc you've bestowed on wizard kind."

"Take him away!" Barty ordered the guards and the guards immediately did as told. Sirius immediately began to fight against their restraint as he looked desperately at Barty. He knew there would be no changing the man's mind.

The man hated him.

Perhaps more than he hated Voldemort himself.

"Barty, please take care of Imogen," Sirius begged him as the man just looked at him blankly. It was obvious Sirius was referring to his daughter and Barty's own granddaughter. "Please! Don't let my mother have her! She'll never be safe with my mother! If you ever loved Valeria, you'll take care of Imogen!"

"Bring in Nott!" Barty yelled, clearly ignoring Sirius as the man was led out of the room and more than likely taken to Azkaban where he would live until the end of his life. Barty stared straight ahead, face still void of all emotion as Sirius Black was escorted from the room.

Barty Crouch would find out weeks later that it hadn't been Sirius Black that murdered his daughter. His sugar plum. It had actually been his younger disappointment of a son. It didn't matter. In Barty's mind Sirius Black was just as responsible for killing his daughter. If she never got involved with him then she wouldn't have gotten involved in all that Order of the Phoenix business.

He would be damned if his granddaughter ended up like his daughter.

Barty would, in fact, be taking care of young Imogen just to make sure what happened to Valeria never happened to her. He was too lenient towards Valeria and gave her too much freedom. Barty would just have to keep a closer eye on his granddaughter.

Barty just hoped to god that she never met a boy like Sirius Black and fell hopelessly in love with him.

If she did then he would do more to stop it. Imogen wouldn't end up six feet under like Valeria.

Barty would swear that to Merlin himself.
