CHAPT 9 - YOU HAVE A LAWYER?

I'm here! I know I know, I've been a bit slack recently.

My deepest of apologies.

Tony Stark POV

By this time, all the Avengers excluding Thor, having watched the scene through the security cameras, had entered the room. I just stood there, processing this information. Dead. He should be dead.

But how was he alive. The human body didn't work like that. Half of his DNA missing meant it wasn't physically possible that he could be alive. The water in his lungs, now that was interesting, I couldn't think of a single reason of how he could be standing here right now.

I looked at Percy he seemed like a deer caught in headlights. "Reaallyy? Dead? wow. like, dead, or just dead, because there's dead, and then there's dead." He shifted uncomfortably and I looked at him, dumbfounded.

"Lying really isn't a strong suit of yours." Nat deadpanned.

"Yeah, I know. That's what my cousin says. Doesn't stop him from tryna teach me though." He winced.

"Were you made by HYDRA?" Cap said and I rolled my eyes at his sheer bluntness.

Helen stepped forward. "Captain I already told you, HYDRA doesn't have the technology-"

"But what if they did? How do you know?" Then he turned to Percy who's eyes were shooting in between everyone faster than a bullet. "Were you made by HYDRA."

He scoffed. "Do I look like a Hydra had me? If you say yes then I'm going to be seriously offended."

"You worded that differently." Nat butted in. "You said a hydra, not HYDRA. What Hydra do you think we're talking about?"

"What Hydra are you talking about? Because I'm talking about the one from Greek Mythology. Y'know the dragon-type thing with 9 heads, cut one off two grow back?"

Oh, so that's why they named themselves HYDRA. I looked to Cap and he seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"He's not lying." Nat said after a bit. "But he knows that he's ... different to us. As I said before, your a bad liar."

"No need to be rude." Percy huffed and crossed his arms, right as Loki walked into the room. I rolled my eyes at him and he gave me an oh so delightful smile before turning to assess the scene. His eyes passed over everyone, then to the x-ray machine.

"I see." He turned to Percy expectantly. "Are you going to, what do you call it? 'Mist them?'"

"Yeahh can't."

"What do you mean you can't?"

"I mean, I can't mist them, not really good at that kinda thing." He shrugged.

"What do you mean 'mist' us?" Clint asked gradually going for his bow.

"He means kicking the pipes there causing the steam to break through and cloud your eyes. Then he was just going to knock you fragile mortals unconscious and run, but apparently he can't do that."

"Right. Anyways it's been fun but I have a headache and need to talk to Loki." Percy said about to start walking over.

"You can talk to him after we talk to you." Steve said firmly.

He gave him a sly smile "What if I don't want to?"

"Then." Natasha said returning the smirk. "We'll shove you into a small room with the lights off. Your claustrophobic right?"

I saw him straighten slightly, a shiver running across his body. "I've just decided I don't like you. Fine you can ask questions but I'm getting my lawyer to speak for me."

"You have a lawyer?" Banner asked.

"Yep, name's Hermes. Gimme a sec to call him." With that, he walked out of the room.

Loki Laufeyson POV

"Your going to call ... Hermes?" I blinked as I walked out after him.

"Yep."

I thought for a moment and frowned. "Wouldn't Athena be better suited for this job?"

He gave me a look. "Athena isn't the goddess of lies now is she?" A pause and then he added, "Also the day she helps me is the day that Ares and I get along." I smirked - from what I heard, he had a point.

"And we are going to contact them how?"

"I've been in contact with all twelve of them since the police arrested me." He smirked. "Oh, and of course Hestia, and at some point Hades turned up." Of course. Telepathy.

"So what does Hermes say?"

"Well, he's excited to meet you ... but i'm also having trouble convincing the rest of the council." I observed the situation. Right, there were twelve - fourteen including Hades and Hestia, but did their votes count in a situation like this? If not that meant that at least 7 of them had to vote in our favour, if so, at least 8.

"What's holding them back?"

He frowned and kicked the floor, "Three old hags sewing socks. Shut up Apollo I know dam well that's why my life sucks." Then an idea lit up his face, "Guys, the Fates might want you to come and help. See if they try stopping you?" A minute of listening and then, "Yes, he's coming down."

Before I could say anything, a ding came from the elevator and out stepped a man with salt and pepper curly hair, blue eyes full of mischief and upturned eyebrows to complete the look. Hermes was dressed in a suit to make him look the slightest bit professional. I grinned.

"It's my favourite god of cheeseburgers," Percy laughed.

"No, the water in his lungs keeps him alive." Poseidon sighed. "If you were to extract that from him, there could be a chance that he drowns in the air."

"Wait- really?" Apollo asked. "So, he's a fish."

Poseidon frowned. "No ... fish have gills to extract the oxygen out of the water, he has lungs that carry seawater, in fact, he is the opposite of a fish."

Hermes winced as he heard Percy's horrible efforts of lying. "I think my ears are bleeding. Perce, stop, just stop it's not gonna work."

"Lying really isn't a strong suit of yours."

"No, really." Hermes groaned at the ceiling.

"Doesn't stop him from tryna teach me though"

"I fear my efforts are futile." He sighed dramatically.

Poseidon sputtered. "Made by a Hydra!? A Hydra!?"

"Not 'a Hydra'" Athena rolled her eyes. "HYDRA, Hermes stop wincing at Jackson's lying skills and help me explain."

Hermes looked up, completely oblivious - Martha had to whisper it in his ear. "Oh! HYDRA" He sat up and cleared his throat. "It's an organisation that tries to take mortals freedom away from them. Obviously being the idiots they are, forgot one factor: If you try and take freedom from them, they resist. That was the sideline of World War II. It's still an organisation today and one of Steve Rogers' biggest paranoias."

Poseidon nodded, still offended by the HYDRA comment. He looked at the hearth and realised his son was too, which everyone thought was amusing.

"And Loki enters the room!" Apollo cheered. "Wait, we're good with Loki now right?"

"Are you going to, what do you call it? 'Mist them?'"

"He can't" Dionysus snorted.

"Yeahh can't."

"Told you."

Hermes almost fainted at Loki's lie. "Apollo."

"Yeah?"

"I think I'm in love"

"Awwww" Aphrodite cooed.

"Then, we'll shove you into a small room with the lights off. Your claustrophobic right?"

Hestia and Athena shook their heads in disapproval. "Using someone's fears against them to gain the upper hand is a cowards method." Athena shook her head.

"No their smart." Ares grinned.

"I've just decided I don't like you."

"We're in agreement." Apollo nodded.

"He has a lawyer?" Ares asked.

"And his name is Hermes? Wow Herm you have a twin like me." Apollo smiled.

"He's talking about Hermes." Artemis explained whilst rolling her eyes.

"Ohhh"

"Oh oh oh" Hermes looked like a puppy. "Can I go can I go pleaaaaase. I wanna see Lokiiii"

"No" Everyone said.

"The Fates said we were not to interfere" Hades frowned.

"Guys." Percy said "I need him."

"See he needs me" Hermes said.

"No" Zeus said again.

"But-"

"No and that's final" He felt like a father grounding his son.

"What's holding them back?"

"Three old hags sewing socks." Percy replied.

"Um Perce, you think you insulting them might be the reason-"

"Shut up Apollo I know dam well that's why my life sucks."

"Well, as long as you know" he shrugged.

"Guys, the Fates might want you to come and help. See if they try stopping you?"

Everyone looked at each other, "Okay, let's try that." Athena said.

Everyone watched as Hermes got up and flashed into the elevator, a few seconds later he flashed back, grinning ear to ear. "They let me"

Poseidon clapped. "Then go be a lawyer."

Hermes clicked his fingers and he was in a suit which made Athena blink at the oddness, and then he was gone.
