Into That Good Night
Chapter 19: Now I Am Found
"What is going on here?" A calmer, more serene voice asked, making my heart pound in my chest. "Persephone, is that you?!"
"Arwen!"
The albino and Elvenking were gaping at their Evenstar, Arwen Undómiel. Her hair was held back by two braids that connected on the back of her head, meeting to form one single braid down her back. It was obvious they had been riding and just arrived, as there were several wisps of hair that were unchecked.
The she-elf, arguably the most beautiful being on the planet, ignored the Albino and Elvenking as they stood up at her presence and charged right at me, wrapping me into a hug. "Meleth nin, I am so sorry," She spoke softly, before glaring at the elves that still held me captive.
"I missed you, Arwen."
The dwarves, for their part, were watching in sheer awe as the Lady of Imladris had finally made her appearance. Varis was smiling widely at her, happy to see the familiar face.
"I do believe my Lady asked you a question, King Thranduil," Glorfindel's deep voice reverberated across the room, sending shivers down my spine. "Why do you have my intended in chains?"
Oh, so we were just going to forget that we had left on a ridiculously low note?
But alas, he was saving my ass, so that's a plus.
"Let them go," Arwen spoke to the King, sounding so closely like her grandmother, the Lady of the Wood, that it was almost eerie. "They have done nothing to you."
Thranduil, who I now know to be the Elvenking, glared down at her, making Glorfindel bristle where he still stood by the other entrance to the throne room. There were some people coming up behind him, but I couldn't make out who they were in the shadows.
"They have trespassed," Thranduil said minutely, before taking a small sip from his glass. "Trespassing on my lands is a means for imprisonment."
"You will let them go, two of them are citizens of Imladris. I would hate to have to speak to Lord Elrond about delaying any of our trades because you refused to let his people go when they strayed into your forest by accident," Goldilocks said.
I grinned over at him stupidly.
"Did he really call you his intended?" Fili asked me quietly from where he was detained at my left.
I nodded. "He really did."
"Miss Varis, I have missed you dearly," Arwen kneeled down, shocking the dwarves and the elves who had heard her speak as she kneeled for a dwarf. The Lady of Imladris pulled the dwarrowdam in for a hug, caressing her hair softly. "I do hope you are doing well."
The dwarves looked at Arwen, once more in awe at her beauty. "I do believe she is the most beautiful creature to walk on this planet," Dwalin spoke, his eyes wide and in awe.
Balin pursed his lips at his brother, and Thorin merely nodded in agreement. Varis looked over at them with a smile. "Lady Arwen is the Evenstar of her people, and has the heart and soul to show for it. Not just her beauty, sirs."
Thorin bowed over to her, making the rest of his company do the same. "Thorin Oakenshield, at your service, Lady Arwen of Rivendell."
I looked over to where Glorfindel was speaking with Thranduil in the elvish tongue, and the Albino was watching with a bored look on his face.
"Hey, Arwen, is the Albino over there by the King the prince? Or who is he?"
Arwen looked over to where the ellon were standing before nodding. "Yes, mellon. That is Prince Legolas, he is the son of King Thranduil."
I let out a low hum, eying the prince carefully as he looked over at us, having heard his name be spoken. At least he was smart enough not to glare at Arwen. "I think he looks like an Albino."
Varis let out a choked laugh.
Arwen tilted her head. "What is an albino?"
I shrugged. "It's a defect in a person's blood, their DNA, you remember me talking about that? Yeah, well, it's a defect that makes someone's skin, hair, eyes, and any other pigmented color white." I gestured over to where Legolas was standing. "Like the prince."
"Hm, well that certainly would explain things," Varis commented, making some of the other dwarves, namely Fili, Kili, Bofur, and Nori crack up in a fit of laughter.
Arwen smiled airily. "My mother's hair is the color white and silver like the moon," she commented.
A soft silence followed, and I smiled at my friend. "I am sure she is as beautiful as you, mellon nin."
"What in Arda is going on, here?"
My eyes widened when Elladan and Elrohir walked through the doors, and only continued to grow as I watched others follow.
Alma.
Aldarian.
Gerda.
Geoffry.
They all came for me.
Elladan and Elrohir walked right up to Thranduil and demanded that he set us free, and Arwen, noticing that without her intervention a fight might break out, walked over and helped soothe over the ruffled feathers her brother's created.
Alma immediately hurried over to where Varis and I were, followed by her brother, Gerda, and Geoffry. "Persie, it is so good to see you again," she cooed, wrapping her arms around me in a tight hug. She pulled away only to glare at the guards just as Arwen did- but also went another step further, "Are you going to let me greet my dear friend?"
When the guard didn't say a word, remaining loyal to their King, her frown deepened even more. "You will-"
"Alma, perhaps you should greet Miss Varis instead of threatening our hosts," Aldarion intervened, winking at the guard. "I understand, lad. I've been a guard for Lord Elrond for centuries. Crazy Ladies of the court, what can one do, hm?
Thranduil was watching the exchange with a raised brow. "And who are these newcomers?"
Glorfindel walked over to where we were for the first time since he showed up, and he stopped a few feet away from where I was being detained. I could smell his familiar scent at this distance and felt my heart start to race once more at the thought of being able to touch him again.
"I am Lady Almarian of Imladris, under Lady Arwen's careful minding," Alma spoke, walking up to the throne and giving the Elf King a courtesy and bowing her head. "It is a pleasure to finally be able to visit your lovely halls."
Alma then carefully took a few steps backward before nodding once to Arwen to acknowledge the High Lady of her court. Arwen graciously nodded back.
"And I am Lord Aldarion, brother to Lady Almarian," Aldarion spoke, walking over to stand by his sister and bowing to the King. "It is a great pleasure, your Majesty."
Some of the dwarves snorted from where they were standing, but I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I know it's great to meet a King and all but can you just let me go? I really need to pee."
Thranduil, who was looking as regal as ever, blinked in my direction before looking slightly more disgusted at me. "Valar, what is it about this girl that has wrapped around your necks? She is absolutely-"
"An incredible, loyal, beautiful young woman who is far more than anything you could ever imagine her to be," Glorfindel cut in, glaring at him fiercely. "And she is the love of my life, so if you ever dare to cross her again, you shall also be crossing me."
The Elvenking let out a long, drawn out sigh of exasperation .
"Release them."
I let out a sigh of relief. "Well, I certainly thought mmf-"
When Glorfindel's lips met my own, a feeling of peace and joy consumed me and at once seemed to completely rejuvenate my soul. I had been missing a piece of my heart and finally it had been put back together again.
People can survive without half their heart- but is surviving truly living?
No.
This is living.
We pulled apart, and his blue eyes on mine seemed to pull me into a world made up of just the two of us. "Hey, Goldilocks."
He let out a low chuckle that I felt down in my core. "Nemir, I have missed you." He kissed my lips softly once more. "From this point on, I will always take you with me wherever I shall travel, for I cannot bear being so far from you." He paused, looking over my shoulder at the dwarves who were watching our reunion, before they abruptly noticed his stare and were suddenly looking at anything else but us. "And I ask that you take me with you wherever you travel, whatever quests you go on. I will always be on your side."
"You hurt her, Glorfindel," Varis spoke up from where she was standing between Kili and Fili. "I had to try and pick up what was left of her when you fought."
Glorfindel nodded to her solemnly.
"Perhaps we should see if there is somewhere else we can continue this conversation," Arwen spoke, clasping her hands together.
"Is there somewhere you would like for our party to stay during the celebrations, your Majesty?" Alma turned to ask the Elf King.
He looked down at her thoughtfully. "Yes, in fact, there is a place I would like for your party to stay during Mereth Nuin Giliath." He looked over at the dwarves again, this time in disdain. "However, there is no room for the dwarves there. There will be other accommodations made up for them, my Lady," he turned back to Alma.
Thranduil walked down the steps, slowly and deliberately, as he placed his glass of wine in the hands of one of the staff. I watched as he took one of Alma's hands gently and placed a lingering kiss on the top. It was weird to see one of my most serious friends so frazzled as she spoke, "Thank you, your Majesty."
Aldarion scowled at the King and pulled his sister back, away from the other elf.
"Gilrion!" A dark haired elf hastened into the room, bowing to the king. "Please show the Lothlorien and Imladris parties to their lodgings." Thranduil looked directly at Alma. "Master Gilrion is my personal assistant in my halls. Let him know to pass along any requests, and I will see them done, my Lady."
I looked at Glorfindel with wide eyes, who looked confused as well. What was this Elf King playing at?
Was he actually trying to seduce information out of her or what was his play?
Glorfindel shot me a look that was clear as day saying, don't say anything.
I pursed my lips.
He grinned, and held out an arm to escort me out to follow Gilrion.
"But, Lady Persephone, you are a part of the company," Fili spoke before we could walk away. "Will you not be staying with us?"
"Fili, she is currently reuniting with her intended, so no, I don't think they will be sticking around with us for very much longer," Varis spoke, giving me a wink before looking at Glorfindel semi-seriously. "If you hurt her you will have me to deal with, Lord Glorfindel."
"And me," Fili grumbled, crossing his arms.
"Me as well," Kili spoke, matching his brother in tone and in stance.
"I as well," Thorin's low voice spoke. "In fact, I do believe you will answer to the entire company if you hurt one of our own."
"Just because the lassie knows how to take care of herself doesn't mean that she should, or rather, that she has to," Balin spoke gravely.
Thorin walked up to Glorfindel and crossed his arms as he stared down the Elf Lord with eyes that only a King could muster. "Persephone is one of our own, and we will protect her as such. I have no care for who you are, if you hurt her as you have done before, I will grind you into dust so fine even the Valar would not be able to resurrect you."
My mouth fell open.
Damn, the King has arrived.
"I will do everything in my power to see that she is not hurt, King Thorin," Glorfindel spoke, bowing to the dwarf once, before taking my arm again. "She is the most important thing to me in this life. I will not fail her again."
Dwalin let out a huff.
Thorin nodded to the elf. "See that you do not."
Alma, who had been lingering along the sidelines of the conversation, took this moment to step in next to Varis. "Will you be coming with us as well? It will be important for us to catch up after the lost time, you see."
Varis carefully avoided Kili's piercing stare. "Of course, that would be good, would it not?" She turned to Thorin and before she spoke nodded to him respectfully. "Will you allow me to stay alongside Lady Persephone and the elves?"
Kili's eyes widened and he looked to Thorin frantically. "Uncle-"
"Enough, brother," Fili reprimanded him, and pulled him back before he could do something stupid like trying to grab for Varis.
Thorin was looking between Varis and Kili thoughtfully. It seems that the Dwarf King was far more perceptive than what most would give him credit for. "You may go with Persephone and the elves. I would feel far better if you would, truly, considering I have reservations for where the Elvenking will be housing our company."
Thorin then looked over to Glorfindel. "Am I to be assured that the same level of protection will be given to this other member of my company, Lord Glorfindel?"
The blond elf nodded at my side. "You have my word, your Majesty."
Thorin then nodded, and turned to Varis, granting her request much to Kili's immediate dislike.
Finally, Varis turned to the younger prince. "Let me go, Kili."
To this, he blinked once, shocked and confused, before relenting.
And Gilrion led us off and away to where we were to be staying for the next few days I guess. Apparently, it was told to me on our way to the West Wing of the palace, that Mereth Nuin Giliath was the Feast of Starlight, a time of celebration for the elves. A perfect time to negotiate more peace treaties and trade agreements between the elven kingdoms.
At least, that's what Glorfindel was trying to lead the others to believe.
Something in his eye told me very different things.
One of them was that he came here in search of me. And that everyone followed after hearing word of Varis and my departure. But I was no idiot, and knew that Thranduil wasn't some docile king. If he knew of the real reason why Varis and I were here- why the Company was here; he probably really would lock us in the dungeons.
And if he said anything of that matter, Gilrion would immediately report it right back to Thranduil himself.
I still couldn't believe that they were actually here.
"Lady Persephone, these are your accommodations," Gilrion spoke, opening the door for me to walk in.
Glorfindel held a hand up. "She will actually be staying with me in my rooms, if that is alright with you?"
The look in Glorfindel's eyes clearly spoke that he didn't care what Thranduil or Gilrion thought, we were staying together.
The other elf wisely said nothing, and merely showed us to Glorfindel's rooms, the hand holding on his arm was starting to sweat in the anticipation of finally being alone with him for the first time in months.
The others had gone off with other house staff, being shown their rooms, and had walked away from us with knowing eyes.
Varis winked as she waltzed off with Alma, Gerda, and Arwen, who she was going to have a girl's night with.
I was about to have a very different kind of night.
But definitely not one that would be less fun.
As soon as the door was closed behind us, I was pushed against the door by Glorfindel, his body pressed up tightly against my own.
"Do you know how much I missed you, Nemir?"
I snorted, feeling a familiar hardness pressed against my lower stomach. "I think I can imagine."
He rolled his eyes, pressing his forehead against my own. "I need you to know one thing before we proceed, Persephone."
I blinked, looking up at him curiously. "What is it?"
A small smile grew on his face. "I am more in love with you than I have ever been," he told me. "And I am so proud of you for sticking up for yourself and travelling with these dwarves. I know what they seek, and I know why you are joining them, Varis or no Varis," he quickly added. "And I love you so much more, because I know this is who you are."
I felt tears start to pool in my eyes. "You know me?"
He nodded, foreheads rubbing against each other. "I know you."
"Do you love me?"
"You know I do, Gwingil."
I ran my hand down on his back, only stopping once it cupped his ass. And then I squeezed, hard enough to make him flinch.
A dark look that pooled in his eyes told me he was not hurt in the slightest.
"Then show me, Goldilocks."
And show me, he did.
