Author's Headnote: Sorry to keep you waiting on my chapters, I had gotten the COVID Vaccine and I felt like I had the bubonic plague. Seriously, felt exhausted as hell the day of the shot, the second day I had gotten all the side effects at once, and the third day I had suffered chest pains. But now I can start the chapter now!
And to be honest, I was actually worried I'd made Ruby TOO soft. Well, thanks for the feedback, now I'll need some way to justify her sleeping in the dorms, because I can't just magically retcon the chapter. So, let's just jump into this one!
Ruby the Renegade: A Mundane Thursday
Beacon Academy, 4:49 AM, Thursday, Dormitory Commons
Ruby woke up early, although didn't end up sleeping in two blocks this time. Not to mention her not sleeping in the dorm means she's still in the clothes she wore during her private training exercise, meaning it's not her uniform. But no less, she was preparing for the day. She really didn't have much of a good day yesterday given all the paper balls and Weiss trying to one-up her. Hence why she didn't bother sleeping in the dorms. But before she decided to get ready. She may as well have some coffee; she knows she'll need it. Thankfully no one else wakes up this early. Otherwise, Ruby would be more than annoyed.
"GOOD MORNING!" Nora's voice yelled, behind from Ruby.
The young huntress did not react well to this, and had a quick panic attack. Followed by slapping Nora in the face.
"Ow! What was that for?" Nora asked.
"Don't. Do. That. Ever. Again." Ruby demanded.
"Alright, alright. Cranky much?"
"It's almost 5 AM. I just woke up and I'm not even in my uniform, of course I am not going to be happy when someone yells right behind me! What are you doing up anyway!?"
"Set my alarm clock early. What are YOU doing up?"
"None of your business."
"Wow, you won't get much friends if you don't open to anyone."
"I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to learn and get my huntress license."
"Come on, we're still young! Is this how you want to remember your youth? Cramped up in a room studying?"
"No, I won't procrastinate with you. Can you leave me alone now?"
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"You're the only other person up."
Ruby growled at that response. She does not want to put up with her. So, she won't. She got up and went back to the dorm, to get ready for school. Her team may be grateful that she let them sleep in more than last time. She was blocking out any noise that came out of Nora's mouth while Ruby was heading up to her dorm. She's not going to deal with her this early in the morning.
Beacon Academy, 5:12 AM, Thursday, RWBY Dormitory
Ruby had walked in and took a shower, along with changing into her uniform. She then proceded to wake up her team. Unlike yesterdays, it'll involve flipping the lights on and off rapidly. Soon after that, everyone else in the room was awake, albeit annoyed.
"Would you not do that? It's going to ruin the lights!" Weiss retorted.
"I thought you would be grateful that I woke up my gently, and at a later time." Ruby said, sarcastically.
"Speaking of, what time is it?" Yang asked.
"It's 5 AM." Ruby stated.
"That's still plenty of time to get ready." Blake said.
"Do you want me to get you guys alarm clocks?" Ruby asked.
"We can get our own alarm clocks." Weiss retorted.
"I know you can, ice bitch. I wasn't asking you." Ruby stated.
"Excuse me? What did you just call me?"
"You know what I said, Ice bitch."
"You will not call me that!"
"I can and will."
"Using such vulgar words proves your immaturity!"
"Can you two please not argue this early in the morning? I'd very least would like to get clean and put on my uniform." Yang complained.
"And yes, I think alarm clocks would be helpful." Blake stated.
"Very well, on the weekends. I'll be getting alarm clocks for you and Yang." Ruby stated.
"What about me!?" Weiss asked.
"You have your dad's money, just spend that!" Ruby stated.
Weiss growled upon hearing that.
"What's the matter? Daddy issues?" Ruby asked.
"Ruby! Weiss! What did I say?" Yang asked.
Ruby and Weiss stayed silent upon remembering what Yang requested.
"I'll be meeting you at the cafeteria, don't be late for class." Ruby stated, leaving the dorm. She doesn't need to supervise her team doing something as simple as putting on clothes. She'll just get her breakfast now and meet up with her team at the start of the class... which on this Thursday is... History, Literature, Lunch, and Combat Practice. Weird... one of the class slots are blank. Between lunch and combat practice. Sounds like a free period. Which means Ruby would have time to prepare for combat.
Beacon Academy, 5:44 AM, Thursday, Cafeteria
Ruby was sitting at the cafeteria. Albeit, pestered by her teammates. And team JNPR. She tries to avoid conversation and tends to dismiss or outright diss anyone trying to talk to her. It's still early in the morning, she needs to eat her breakfast. Which is an omelet. Well, two omelets and toast. Along with some strawberry milk, which she likes to drink. As she was eating her breakfast, getting enough food in her body for the day, she can't help but pay attention to one of the conversations.
"So, did you know where Ruby was last night?" Yang asked.
"She had a sleeping bag and slept at the porch last night." Jaune responded.
"Wow, guess she really was in a bad mood yesterday."
"Isn't she always in a bad mood."
"In comparison to Ruby, she had a bad day. Typically, whenever she gets too annoyed or tense, she just outright avoids people for the rest of the day."
"Couldn't she just have a stress ball or something?"
"She usually pops them."
"Sounds like she has issues."
"Yep. However, I think she'll get better when she grows up. Teenage angst and all."
"But... we're all still teenagers."
"She's still fifteen."
"Fifteen? How did she get into Beacon early?" Blake asked.
"Well, she must have impressed the headmaster if she got into Beacon early." Pyrrha stated.
Well... it seems they're talking about Ruby like she's not there. Infront of her... this upsets the small huntress.
"Would you all shut the hell up?" Ruby asked.
"Well, look who decided to join the conversation?" Yang asked jokingly.
"Refer to my previous statement."
"Well, don't you want to explain to everyone here about your anti-social tendencies?"
"No."
"That's not surprising." Blake commented.
"You're not helping!" Yang stated.
"Just shut up all of you. I just want to eat my breakfast in peace." Ruby stated.
"Grumpy, much?" Nora asked.
"Nora, please don't." Ren stated.
Ruby just went and ignored them for the rest of the time here at Breakfast while she ate breakfast. After eating breakfast, she put her tray away, and went to head to the history class. Which is pretty self-explanatory.
Beacon Academy, 10:30 AM, Thursday, Literature Class (In Session)
History class was surprisingly less boring than expected, she's not sure it's from the history teacher, professor Oobleck being quite eccentric in his teachings or how frequently he encourages student participation in class. He also seems to not tolerate tardiness, JNPR was 1 minute late and now the entire team's got detention. Thankfully Ruby arrived early, so she didn't have to face detention. Her team, was also fortunate that they arrived early. The class was mostly going over some of the basic stuff that Ruby would have learned at her last year of signal. Great to see she won't be missing much after all.
As for this class. Well, it just had only begun. Literature... since when does having proper grammar have to do with being a huntress? Or understanding the meaning of a dead man's poem? She swears this is just common core for those who didn't just get a sturdy education. So why does everyone on the first year have to take it? She'll just have to reluctantly have to read the assigned book and than write down any philosophical meaning behind them. In which more times than not, there isn't any. But no less, Ruby is literally writing down every single word uttered from the literature professor.
Currently, he is lecturing on the philosophical meaning of Justice and Heroism. In which Ruby rolled her eyes to. Sure, there's nothing wrong with justice or selflessness, it's just that there isn't really a deep meaning behind it. No less, she is taking notes on it. Because she knows this will be on a test. She's more than well aware of how literature teachers tend to work. Although pretty sure Beacon would be much more complex than Signal with how the 'philosophical meaning' of these things would work.
"Now, Miss Belladonna. Would you explain the meaning of this poem?" The literature professor asked.
"It means that one must should show mercy, lest they become the very monster they try to stop." Blake responded.
"Very good."
Not even going to bother asking to raise hands? Well, it's more upfront with the volunteering. Which is no different from Professor Oobleck's class, although the professor here is a bit less detention spammy. But no less, Ruby needed to take notes. So far, no paper-balls and no annoyances from anyone. So, despite everything, it's currently a step-up from yesterday.
Beacon Academy, 12:44 PM, Thursday, Cafeteria
Ruby was eating... alone. Because her team is serving detention... during lunch. And JNPR... along with a large portion of the first year. But no less, Ruby was actually enjoying this time. Ruby had simply ordered Spaghetti. Why spaghetti? Because she'll need the protein for combat practice. Sure, one may think it may be petty getting a high protein and high carbohydrate meal whilst half of her class is starving in detention with Oobleck. Not sure why they aren't allowed to eat during this time, but they can always eat between the 30-minute transitional periods, this time is only labeled as lunch for it's 1-hour transitional period between classes.
Ruby and Yang were sitting next to each other, with Weiss and Blake across from them.
"Why are you eating Spaghetti?" Blake asked.
"High in Carbohydrates and Protein." Ruby responded.
"I'm just here to get food in my belly, no need for an athletes diet." Yang said, as she is shoving an extra-wide cheeseburger in her mouth.
"You could benefit from eating healthier. I don't want a whale as a sister." Ruby retorted.
"RUBY!" Yang said, sounding offended.
"You know you could have been more polite when giving advice," Blake commented.
"She can't." Yang stated.
"What do you mean?"
"I grew up living with her, ever since she started attending school, she's always been quite the grumpy type."
"Grumpy is an understatement." Weiss retorted.
"Shut the hell up, princess." Ruby retorted.
"I wasn't even being rude directly to you!"
"Your voice is like a cat playing with a chalkboard with it's claws. Everything I hear you speak; it makes my ears want to bleed."
"I just happen to be an excellent singer!"
"No, you're not. You are a terrible singer. Trust me, one of your songs snuck into my playlist and woke me up!" Ruby retorted.
"Maybe because your playlist has better taste than you do." Weiss countered.
"I can assure you; I only listen to the finest classic symphonies."
"I always figured you'd like trashy pop-stars."
"Too cheery."
"I expected her to like death metal." Blake commented.
"Too edgy."
"I thought she would listen to video-game OSTs." Yang stated, jokingly.
"Yang, I don't even play videogames that often, even than, with the sound off." Ruby objected
"I was joking."
"And I am explaining why the joke doesn't make sense."
"Attention all passengers, it appears there's a strong presence of wind at Ruby Rose air dock, so we have decided to fly over to the next air dock. We at sense of humor airlines apologize for any inconveniences." Yang said, imitating a bullhead pilot, having her hand passing over Ruby's head, then making a woooosh noise.
Weiss was laughing out loud and Blake lead out a small chuckle. Ruby just responded by briefly flipping off Yang at that statement. Ruby doesn't like Yang's jokes, and she displays it very bluntly.
"Your jokes aren't funny, Yang." Ruby stated.
"They seem to think otherwise." Yang said, pointing at Weiss and Blake.
"Well, whatever. Let's just finish lunch." Ruby stated.
Beacon Academy, 1:07 PM, Thursday, Beacon Auditorium
Apparently, all the first-year students have been called to the auditorium for some reason. And at the podium is Professor Goodwitch. Something tells Ruby this won't be a free period. Well, whatever she has planned, Ruby is prepared for.
"You may be wondering why I called you all here. And you are aware that your schedule has blank spots on it. That will be resolved today." Glynda resolved.
Electives, these are optional classes, most likely to teach students something special, making them more specialized.
"That's right, you will be deciding your elective classes. Except for team leaders. They won't be picking an elective." Glynda announced.
Wait, what?
"Team leaders have a special responsibility to ensure the tactical prowess of the team. Hence there's a special leadership skills class required for team leaders, teaching tactical strategies, along with other leadership skills. The leader is the most important part of the team, and can't embark on an elective for the first semester." Glynda announced.
That would mean the princess would be more than happy that she's not team leader, since she gets to have a special fun class instead of learning teambuilding and tactic practice. Yet, she looks more than upset when looking at Ruby. Like a look of envy. Still eyeing to usurp Ruby, even after hearing that? Either she's a spoiled brat or has an ego higher than the tallest building in Atlas.
"Today, you won't have those classes. After you select your electives, you will be dismissed. And team leaders will be dismissed now." Glynda announced.
Well, guess it's Ruby's queue to leave the room. Finally.
Beacon Academy, 4:52 PM, Thursday, Theater Room
Ruby was taking notes. So far, Jaune and Cardin have been at it for a whole hour and a half. They've been at this duel for awhile. And for most of it, it was Jaune on the defensive with mid aura and Cardin not even trying to fight back, like he was playing with him. And the moments Jaune was on the offensive, he was pushed back.
And that's when Jaune enters the offensive again, only for Cardin to push him back and use his morning star to take a chunk out of his aura.
"Cardin, that's enough!" Glynda announced.
Ruby thinks that was obvious enough. Cardin was playing with Jaune the whole fight.
"As you can see, by tournament levels, Jaune's aura is low enough to be considered by tournament standards. This, and ringing out would eliminate you from the tournament." Glynda announced. "And Mr. Arc, make sure you check your aura levels and enemy movement to ensure the right time to make an offensive. As for you, Mr. Winchester. Take your opponent seriously. You won't have that luxury fighting grimm." She added.
Cardin scoffed and left the stadium, Jaune got up and went to get changed. Ruby just sighed and facepalmed at how pathetic Jaune fights.
"Well, it seems this fight has taken up all of our time, class dismissed." Glynda said, dismissing the class.
Beacon Academy, 7:13 PM, Thursday, RWBY Dormitory
Well... today's been uneventful. Ruby was doing her homework as Yang went on and played videogames on her scroll. Blake was reading her book. Ruby's not sure where Weiss went, but she doesn't care. Ruby had sighed as she was glad that today went better than yesterday. Albeit the incidents in the morning and at lunch. Ruby had looked up on the lunch detention rules, apparently it was an old rule from sixty years ago they never repealed. It was passed because students brought over messy foods that would make a mess in classrooms. Interesting to know.
She figured she'd keep her distance for now and wait to go to bed. She wasn't tired, and she may as well finish the homework and read the chapters of that book assigned. Is Ruby worried for a test? No. They are not going to hand out an exam on the fifth day of school, that'd be ridiculous.
Author's Footnote: Sorry for the quality and low size, I wasn't entirely focused. Mostly because I couldn't think of anything here, and I didn't want to outright skip Thursday. So... here's this awkward chapter. I apologize in advance if this is not satisfactory. I'll make sure chapter five will be better.
