Finn Morgan walked into a small café in Hartford thinking about the day he had had. It started with a meeting at 7 am and had been non-stop since. He was finally able to break away at 2 and needing to get out of the office decided to come to a new café he had noticed a few weeks prior. The place was mostly empty which wasn't surprising considering the hour. As he walked further in to grab a table he noticed a familiar brunette head, a woman he had not seen in over five months.
"Love!" he exclaimed as he rushed to the table.
Rory Gilmore was exhausted from her day spent shopping for baby items. Lane had met her in Hartford, and they picked out a crib and changing table and some other little things. But every time she did anything it always felt slightly bittersweet knowing that he would never be in their child's life. After Lane had left needing to get back to Zach and the twins, she wondered to a small café to grab a snack since she realized eating lots of small meals throughout the day helped her with the morning sickness that never fully went away. She was focused on her phone, scrolling through lists that Paris had sent her on "must have" baby items and writing notes on an envelope she had found in her purse when a familiar voice called out "love" and when she looked up one of the last people she wanted to see was standing next to her.
"Finn," she replied with a hint of hostility in her tone. He didn't deserve it but he was friends with him therefore making him not someone she wanted to see.
He looked slightly taken aback by her tone but pulled out the seat across from her and sat down. "You don't seem happy to see me," he pouted.
Rory took a deep breath and let out a deep sigh. "Sorry Finn," she replied slightly apologetically. "Your just friends with someone I would rather not think about right now."
He gave her a sad smile, "You know he misses you love."
Rory let out a bitter laugh, "I seriously doubt that," she replied and he was taken aback by the hate lacing her words. "He would be perfectly happy if I disappeared. I don't have the energy to deal with this," she stated as she slowly stood up and he gasped at her obviously pregnant state.
"Rory…" he started.
"No," she firmly stated. "I don't want to talk about it. His lawyers made it perfectly clear what would happen if I did. So next time you talk to him tell him I understood the warning loud and clear."
Finn was in shock at her comments, his lawyers? What this hell could she mean by that? Before he had a chance to fully register what she was saying and reply she was already out the door. He went to run after her but by the time he made it out of the café she had disappeared. He slowly made his way back into the café and went back to where she was sitting trying to figure out what was going on. Rory was pregnant and from the sound of it, Logan knew. But when they spoke last week, he didn't say a word, just bitching about Odette and how she kept trying to convince him to move the wedding forward. Logan was still trying to postpone as long as possible, he still hoped Rory would come back to him. He glanced to where she was sitting and saw she had left behind some papers and one had what looked like her address on it so he quickly took them and slipped them into his pocket before deciding to head to his apartment. He had work he needed to get done but he knew he wouldn't be able to focus on that now.
Rory made it to back to the Gilmore mansion before she broke down into sobs in the garage. How the hell could Finn say he missed her! She tried calling and texting him and never received a response. She debated about flying to London to tell him but the thought of him not wanting to see her, especially since her texts and calls went unanswered, brought on a panic attack that landed her in the hospital. Well, between his silence and her mother's reaction to finding out who the father was, she was a disaster. Her father was there for her and so was her grandmother. They sat in the hospital and listed to the story of her and Logan and what her mother had said. Both were sympathetic and were in agreement with her that Logan deserved to know he was going to be a father despite what Lorelai said. It was the three of them against Lorelai and Rory had not spoken with her mother in months.
Emily had promptly signed over ownership to the Hartford house and had given her the information for the trust fund that Trix had left her along with information regarding her inheritance from Richard. He didn't want Lorelai to find out and cause issues so asked that Emily tell Rory privately. Christopher also gave her information on a trust he had created for her. Between everything, Rory had over $80 million dollars. According to both Emily and Chris, Lorelai knew about Richards original will and threw a fit about Rory inheriting the money and Christopher had told her about the trust fund. It was a lot for Rory to handle but they knew what to do and assisted her with claiming the money and Christopher offered his accountant and money manager to assist her. Emily helped her redecorate the home to her taste and hired her two maids and a chef to assist her with managing the house. She had even convinced Rory to start therapy to talk about her worries and work through them.
On the advice of the therapist, Rory had written Logan a e-mail to his personal account telling him how she felt about him, apologizing for not having the strength to say anything sooner and to also tell him about the baby. It took a week for her to get a response and that was in the form of two lawyers showing up at her door threating her. They told her that if she ever told a soul about the baby they would ensure it was taken from her and Mr. Huntzberger sent her a check to "handle" the situation. It was a given they expected her to have an abortion. The visit was enough to send her back to the hospital where she was admitted for over a week, almost losing the baby. During that time she knew that she wanted to keep it, it was a part of her and despite his bastard actions, part of the only man she had ever truly loved. When people asked about the father she simply told them that she was getting older and wanted a child so had gone to her best friend Paris for assistance. Paris was happy to help and just hoped the child looked like Rory instead of that "two bit waste of a trust fund."
Either Lane, Paris or Emily went with Rory to each of her appointments. They would visit her when they had the chance and loved spoiling the soon to be Gilmore. Rory couldn't bear to find out what the baby was so they focused on gender neutral items. Her therapist was helping her and she came to a lot of realizations about her relationships. She also helped her come to terms with Logan's actions and that gave her strength. But no matter how strong she tired to be as she got bigger, when she first felt the baby move, during each doctor's appointment she wished he was there with her, she wished she had made a different decision when he asked her to marry him.
Now, she sat alone in her car crying about her run-in with Finn. When she finally got the crying under control she walked into the house and straight to her grandfathers, hers now, study and sat in the old leather chair. Taking a few breaths she pulled out the folder with the paperwork from the lawyer and the check she never cashed. Fuck him! She thought to herself. She kept these papers and a copy of the email in case her child ever wanted to know their father and why he was never in their life growing up. She left them on the desk and moved out of the room wanting a shower to try and wash the day away.
