A Happy Belated Birthday to M.H. Pinter! Sorry I couldn't get this story out on your birthday! Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the chapter!
Also a heads up guys. The Mandalorian Maverick needs a few more days to get it exactly how I want it. It'll be up on Friday, November 5th, that much I promise. I'd rather take a few days to get it right then rush it out early and have it be bad. Sorry for the wait but hopefully you'll think it's worth it.
Happy Halloween! Here is chapter 10 of the Spectacular Spider-man. Tombstone's exposure and subsequent escape from Starling leaves a power vacuum that Brick decides to take. With a new army his to control, Starling is now ripe for the taking so it's up to Spider-man to defend it. Between the Mayor and City leadership who thought he was a killer to the disparate members of Team Arrow Will's got a lot on his hands. But the strongest steel has been forged by the harshest fires. It's time for the Spectacular Spider-man to lead. Enjoy!
The Spectacular Spider-man: Star City's First Superhero
January 2015-Starling City
A week had passed in Starling City that brought a major victory for the police and its heroes but also came with a consequence that they were now dealing with. With their focus put on taking down Tombstone and the Spider-man imposter, another dirtbag criminal took his chance seize control and did so in a very loud and significant manner. Daniel Brickwell also known as Brick organized his own crew in the Glades, took out several of Tombstone's men and then staged a robbery at the SCPD evidence lockup and stole over a hundred evidence boxes on criminals awaiting trails. The DA's office had no choice but to dismiss the charges which meant those hundred criminals went free and Brick now had enough muscle to stand against the rest of the gangs in the city. And worse, he managed to free Montana and the suit was taken from evidence which meant that Shocker was back.
And he wasn't going to be alone. Brick also freed Ox and Fancy Dan so Shocker had his team back and knowing he'd have to go up against Spider-man, Brick actually did a smart thing and reached out to some contacts who dealt with high-tech weapons that were coming from a familiar source. Brick and some of his men gathered in an empty warehouse for the meeting at around 9pm and with him was Montana in his Shocker suit. They had been there for about twenty minutes when a small U-Haul truck and sedan arrived. The arm's dealer and his security got out with one of the men dressed in a lab coat and seemingly out of place.
"So, I hear you've got some special weapons and stuff available for sale." Brick said as one of his men put a duffel bag of cash on the ground. "That's just a taste. There's more if what you're selling is worth it."
"Trust me, it is." The scientist said, stepping forward to show that he was the boss.
"And you are?" Brick asked.
"Dr. Phineas Mason, former employee and head engineer at Smythe Technologies. The same company that made the all-terrain combat bio-suit with vibrational gauntlets your associate is wearing." He pointed to Shocker.
"I thought Smythe Technologies was done for?" Shocker pointed out.
"It is, after Spencer Smythe's death, Alistair Smythe's arrest and exposure of his deeds against the Spider-man, the company was destroyed but I wasn't about leave my inventions in the hands of the police. And if Mr. Shocker here is any indication, there is always good money for my kind of inventions." Dr. Mason said.
"If the Tinkerer says they're good then they're good." One of Dr. Mason's men stated.
"And if I'm hearing right you have yourself a Spider-man to deal with. I might have some things you could find useful." Tinkerer walked over to the truck and opened it to reveal an assortment of high-tech prototype military weapons. Assault rifles, body armor, and such but the Tinkerer took out one suitcase while his men carried out an even larger one. "But I think you'll find these two suits to be most helpful."
Tinkerer opened up the cases to reveal two battle suits like Shockers. One was red with high tech pistons and hydraulics while the other was grey and made with a sturdy metal material and larger pneumatic valves on the arms and back. "I got two guys who I know could put them to good use, boss." Shocker said to Brick.
"Good. Get them suited up. The sooner we get rid of Spider-man then the sooner this city will be eating out of the palm of my hand." Brick stated.
Across town, five gun-totting criminals were robbing an armored truck at gunpoint, threatening the driver and guard, and any civilians in the area ran away. Unfortunately, the police showed up and now they were in a shoot out with a squad car.
"This is Delta-Charlie 78 to Central. We're under fire at Adam's and Sullivan street. Five masked individuals armed with assault rifles and heavy weapons. They're attempting to rob an armored truck, requesting backup!" An officer shouted, leaning out from behind his car door to shoot at the robbers before ducking back to avoid getting shot.
"Hey, smoke them!" One of the robbers shouted to his friend who nodded. Said friend took out a grenade and pulled the pin before throwing it at the car but it was yanked out of the air by webbing and thrown up. Said grenade exploded in the air which prevented anyone from getting injured and was an excellent distraction as Spider-man web zipped through the smoke and kicked one of the robbers in the face, sending him into a light pole.
"It's Spider-man!" One of the robbers shouted as Spider-man landed on his shoulders and threw him into a fire hydrant with a head scissor throw.
Spider-man landed on the ground and uppercut the third robber with enough force that he flew into the air before jumping up and webbing him. He flipped forward and slammed the robber into the ground before firing a glob of impact webbing to keep him trapped there. The last two robbers shot at Spider-man with their sub-machine guns but missed as the hero flipped and spun through the air. Spider-man landed in a crouch and shot splitter-web which snagged the two robbers before he pulled them to him and back flip kicked them both in the head. One of the robbers managed to stay conscious and got back to his feet only to get a gun thrown in his face which broke his nose. Spider-man slid forward and shoulder tackled him in the gut before throwing him up into the air and then slamming him to the ground with a web throw.
"You know if you guys got regular jobs then things would be easier and a lot less painful." Spider-man quipped as the two police officers came over and secured the robbers weapons while surveying the scene. "You two all right?"
"Yeah, we're good. Thanks, Spider-man."
"Happy to help." He replied when his HUD alerted him to another police alert. "Sorry, got to go. Work to do. Take care!"
He jumped high into the air and began to web swing to the east. The police officers looked at the five robbers who were all knocked unconscious and at the driver and guard of the armored car who were smiling. "Uh, Delta-Charlie 78 to Central. Negative on the backup. Send a bus to our location for prisoner pickup."
Spider-man swung through the city and banked around a corner before running on the side of a building and flipping through a fire escape before web zipping into the air. "Spencer, you still there?"
Spencer was currently back in her, Aria, and Emily's dorm room on campus. She was more than happy to move back in so she didn't have to deal with her parents or sister and she had the room to herself for the moment. She was sitting at her desk and using her laptop which was connected to the HUD in Will's Spider-man suit as well as police bandwidth and reports to help him. "I'm still here. Nice job on the armored car robbery but the police got reports of suspicious activity around 8th avenue and Adam's street. Possible Triad activity."
"They've mostly been quiet so they could be up to something. I'm on my way. Thanks, Spencer." He replied, zipping up to the roof of a building and point launching off to clear the length of the roof before nose diving to the ground.
"So, this is what a regular night for Spider-man is like? Listening to police bandwidth, swinging through the city, and quipping to the bad guys after you've beaten them?" Spencer asked as she sipped her coffee.
"Pretty much but this past week has been unusually busy. Thanks again for your help, Spencer." He told her, firing a web, and swinging down the street as fast as he could.
"It's no problem. I mean, who else can say that they spent their winter break helping their best friend defend a city." Spencer pointed out. "And I think I'm getting pretty good at it."
"Guess this makes you my person in the chair. Heh-heh, you're my Felicity." Will joked, spinning through the air as he kept swinging down the city. His actions drew the attention of people on the ground as they looked and took photos with their phones.
"Speaking of, where is Felicity? I thought you said that she was Team Arrow's IT person. Not that I don't mind helping you with everything but is there something going on?" Spencer wondered. "Does this have to do with the reason we haven't heard of any mentions or sighting of Robin Hood?"
Will didn't answer for a moment as he web zipped through the air before swinging forward to get more speed. "He's gone, Spencer. He's dead." That declaration gave them both a moment of pause as it was a bit of a bombshell to drop. "Felicity couldn't stick around after we learned the truth and left."
"Oh my god…" Spencer muttered and realized it answered a lot. "Is that why you've been working yourself ragged the past week?"
"Yeah. Starling is my responsibility now and I have to protect it. I thought it'd be easy and I could take down Brick but he's proven to be a very proud if not slightly smarter than normal criminal meathead." He remarked, landing on the side of a building to see an alleyway being guarded by some not-so subtle Triad enforcers. The Triad were gathered in an alleyway and were talking to some people near a car with the trunk open. His HUD zoomed in on the car and cleaned up the image to show it was filled with heavy weapons and explosives. "Hang on a second, Spencer. I've got something to take care of."
He looked around alleyway and his HUD highlighted all of the Triad members, their positions in the alleyway and even identified if any of them had guns on them which they all did. There was a total of ten and all of them were carrying pistols but three had Uzis and two had shotguns hidden in their jackets.
"Wow…" Spencer muttered, seeing what Will was seeing since she was tapped into his HUD. "Your friends at STAR labs really did you a solid with your new suit. Are you sure you can handle this?"
"It's nothing I haven't handled before." Will assured her. "Looks like the Triads are getting some new weapons. Time to ruin their arms deal."
He changed the configuration of his web shooters and took out several of his web mines from his belt before carefully throwing them to the ground. Two landed on the ground and one landed on the side of the wall which caught one of the Triad's attention.
"What the?" He walked over and saw a metal triangle device on the wall with a glowing LED light in the center. The second he crossed the path of the light sensor a glob of web shot out from the trip mine, ensnared the Triad member and pulled him into the wall where he was trapped.
Spider-man then landed on the trunk of the car, closing it shut on the hands of the weapons dealer. "AAAAHHHHHH!"
"Ooh, that looks like it hurt but so will this!" Spider-man webbed the weapons dealer's face and the triad member he was negotiating with before yanking hard. Both of them had their heads bashed into the trunk before Spider-man jumped and kicked them in the chest. He side flipped off the car and kicked one of the Triad members in the face before web pulling him into a backflip kick. A triad member pulled out his shotgun and ran over to kill Spider-man when he crossed the path of another web trip mine on the ground and was web pulled onto his back and trapped. Spider-man did several backflips to avoid the pistol fire from the remaining Triads before flipping into a corkscrew kick, kicking another Triad member onto the web mine on the ground which trapped him.
He landed in a crouch and fired a rapid-fire web barrage that hit the last four triads, webbing them from head to toe and unable to grab their weapons. Spider-man fired four web lines at them before spinning around. The Triads were the unfortunate passengers for Spider-man's spin cycle as they were continuously spun around with Spider-man able to lift and pull all four of them with no problem. After about the twentieth spin he let go and the four Triad members were flung into a wall, stuck there like flies in a spider's web.
"You know, it's kind of touching how badly you guys want to join your friends in jail." Spider-man quipped as he reloaded his web shooters. During that little distraction, the arms dealer's friend who hid by the car peaked his head out to see his boss and the Triad all taken out so he decided to run away as fast as he could. Spider-man just held out his arm and fired his web shooter, capturing the thug in a web net before pulling him back and tying him. "Sorry, dude but you don't want to leave your friends behind."
All the bad guys were tied up and an anonymous call was put in to the SCPD to pick them up. "Nicely handled, Will." Spencer told him, having seen all of that.
"Business as usual." He replied, web zipping up to the roof before swinging away. "Now let's see who else needs an ass kicking tonight?"
"Will, maybe you should call it a night. You've been pushing yourself for the past five hours all over the city and that's just tonight. It's been nonstop all week. We're picking up Aria and Emily tomorrow from the airport and you're gonna be no good to them or when school starts up in two days if you're half dead from exhaustion." Spencer reminded him.
"I can't, Spencer." He replied, zipping down the street before web swinging around a corner. "I've got a city to protect and unfortunately this past week has been crazy. I appreciate your concern, I really do but I can't call it a night just yet. Keep me posted if something big comes up."
He disconnected the call to Spencer before calling Yuri. She was at the SCPD and much like him was working through the unfortunate mess the city has been in since Brick's actions and Tombstone's escape. The SCPD had been busy since Tombstone's escape and Brick's raid on the evidence warehouse and subsequent release of a hundred Iron Heights inmates. It was a black eye to the city so the Mayor and city leadership were working overtime to try and distance themselves from the Big Man of crime's influence while also trying to restore legitimacy which was kind of hard to do. They currently weren't winning any popularity contests and dealing with the revelation of Tombstone's criminal empire and his influence in the city was a big enough headache but add on the current crime wave and it added to problems. Lance was working with the captains of the other precincts to try and bring Brick in but he was a hard man to find and ruthless. Spider-man and the red hooded vigilante helped in keeping the city from falling into chaos but it wasn't perfect.
Yuri looked over a whiteboard that had the photos of all the men that were let go from Brick's raid on the evidence warehouse. She managed to corroborate info from other detectives and CIs in the city that all the people who were released didn't go back to their original gangs or organizations and were now working for Brick. He had an army and they were up to something.
She was brought out of her thinking by her phone ringing and saw it was Will so she answered. "Hey. You calling to let me know that you caught Brick and this is all over?"
"No, sorry Yuri. Haven't been able to find him. He's gone to ground. I'm looking everywhere but this city is huge and I've been kept busy." He replied.
"It's not your fault and I should be thanking you. You've been making the SCPD's job a lot easier and saved a lot of men in the field. Pretty much everyone you saved is singing your praise." Yuri told him.
"Oh, well I'm not sure how to feel about that. These were the same people who were trying to arrest me and I'm pretty sure plenty of them have taken some shots at me." Will pointed out.
"Well, just goes to show how quickly things can go from bad to good to bad again. In this case, our bad again is Brick and the chaos he's been causing." Yuri stated. "Him and all the idiots who listen to him have been tearing through the city."
"You don't have to remind me. I've been there to try and stop them but they're like weeds. Take one down and another one pops up. I honestly thought I'd be able to handle this before school starts but I think that might not be the case." He replied, running alongside a building, and webbing a purse snatcher before tying him up and returning what he stole. "I can't believe I'm actually entertaining this idea but you don't think if we didn't expose Tombstone that Brick wouldn't be running rampant, do you?
"No, of course not. It's clear that Brick's been planning the evidence warehouse break-in for a long time even before we exposed Tombstone to the city. This was coming for a while. Brick must have decided to make a play and the timing happened to line up." Yuri assured him.
"Yeah, but I can't help but think that the city wouldn't be in this kind of mess if the Big Man of crime could scare the idiots back into their place." He suggested.
"Don't go thinking about what if, what could have been done differently or if you made a mistake. Tombstone was a bad guy who did bad things and was a criminal who hurt, killed, and stole to get where he was. He deserves to rot in jail and we did a good thing in showing the Mayor and everyone else just how bad he was. I've been a cop for a long time and one thing I've learned is that criminals like Tombstone, no matter how great or needed they think they are, they're just people who need to be put in jail. The city's gonna be better without him, trust me and we keep doing what we do." Yuri stated.
"Right, thanks Yuri. Guess I just needed to hear that." He replied.
"Don't mention it. We'll find Brick and ruin his party. Did you find out anything?" She wondered.
"Well, I stopped plenty of criminals going after money, jewels and anything of value in the Glades and the surrounding area." He told her.
"Matches up with what we have here. Brick is getting money for something. I'll keep digging and see what else I can find." Yuri told him as Will swung through the city. He heard screams of help down below so he had to go.
"Got it. I'll keep in contact. Let me know if something comes up." He hung up and zipped down to the street.
A woman was running down the street, screaming for help from a guy chasing after her. He was either trying to rob her or do gods knows what and he had a gun. "HELP!" She screamed, racing down the alley into a dead end as the guy walked after her.
"You picked the wrong alley. See, this one cuts off here at Carlisle. You pick the next one, and you're free and clear to Reimer avenue. Now, you want to do this the hard way or the harder way?" He asked with a creepy smile on his face.
"Hey!" They heard as Laurel walked into the alley wearing the Canary suit, mask, wig, and bo staff. "Run!"
The woman ran away as Laurel walked forward with her bo staff while the mugger aimed his gun only for Laurel to knock it out of his hands. He ducked under the bo staff swing to the head and backed up as he pulled out a knife.
"I heard rumors about a mask protecting girls around here." He remarked, avoiding Laurel's wild bo swing, and slashed her in the arm with his knife. She swung at him again but he caught the staff and pushed her against the wall "I guess you ain't her. This is Brick's town now."
Arsenal rappelled down from the roof and fired an arrow, knocking the knife out of the assailant's hand before hitting him in the face with his bow and then landing a push kick to the chest where he was snagged by webbing and lifted up into the air. Spider-man dropped down from the rooftop and kicked him in the face before web throwing him into the wall and making sure it hurt. He landed on the ground in his signature three-point spider crouch as he and Arsenal looked at Laurel.
"I think we should talk." Will told her and the three retreated to the Arrow cave where he could fix Laurel's arm. The three removed their masks and she removed her jacket so Will could take a look at her wound. It wasn't too bad so he cleaned it before stitching it up. Laurel gritted her teeth and tightened her fists as Will put the needle and wire into her cut to seal it up. "Hang on. I'm almost done."
"Where did you learn to stitch?" Roy asked Will.
"My mom's a doctor and growing up I was on the receiving end of pranks and bullying by idiots. I picked up a thing or two." Will replied, finishing with the last stich before putting a bandage over it and then some gauze. He looked down at the wig, jacket, and bo staff and sighed. "I heard rumors about a blonde woman with a bo staff helping people in the city the past week and I figured it was a copycat. Guess I was right."
"I'm just doing the same thing you and Roy are doing." Laurel told him.
"There's a bit of a difference, Laurel. Roy's been training with Oliver and Diggle for over a year and I'm the one with superpowers that make it so I can avoid bullets with my eyes closed, stick to walls, and jump 30ft into the air. If Roy and I hadn't shown up tonight you could have gotten killed." Will pointed out. "Does your dad know you're doing this?"
"No. Are you gonna tell him?" Laurel asked.
"Well, I can't keep this a secret from him and neither should you." He warned her. "You and he are finally good place after Sara. How do you think he's gonna feel when he finds out you've been running out there as the Canary and trying to get yourself killed?"
Laurel just scoffed as Roy walked over and sat down next to them. "Look, I get it, Laurel. This?" Roy held up the mask she used. "This isn't how you handle your grief, Laurel. This is how you get yourself killed. Leave it to us."
"You and Will are handling this city by yourselves and you're overwhelmed. You need help and that's what I'm doing." Laurel stated when they heard the door open and Diggle walked in.
"Laurel, what the hell?" Dig asked her.
"I'm fine." Laurel said as she stood up.
"You're certifiable if you think you can wear your sister's mask." Dig warned her.
"Yeah, yeah you're right. But Oliver is gone now. And like it or not, the Canary sends the same message as Spider-man." Laurel stated. "They fear her."
"No, Laurel. They feared your sister." Dig reminded her.
"Yeah. She's not here anymore." Laurel said before she grabbed her jacket, wig, mask, and bo staff before leaving.
"As if I didn't have enough to worry about this week." Will rubbed his forehead in exhaustion and frustration.
"Laurel's gonna get herself killed if she keeps going out there. She's gotten lucky so far but tonight could have gone really bad." Roy said and Dig and Will agreed.
"I haven't known her as long as the rest of you but she's stubborn and not going to stop this just because we think she's gonna get herself killed." Will added.
"I'll keep a close eye on her." Dig told them so Will walked over to the computers and brought up a tracking program that was currently tracking someone.
"Maybe this will help." He said to Dig, holding up a small spider-tracer in between his index finger and thumb. "It's one of my spider-tracers. STAR labs did an upgrade to them."
"You dinged Laurel with a tracer?" Roy asked and got a nod in response.
"Sticky fingers. It's tucked into her sleeve so this way we'll be able to track her if she goes out again and make sure she doesn't get herself killed. Or Captain Lance will take care of that for us because this is another headache that we don't need right now." Will said, putting the spider tracer back into his belt before walking over to the table where a very large cargo case resided. After getting his new suit from STAR labs and Brick's subsequent reign of terror against Starling City, Will sent a message to STAR labs and Cisco, thanking them for the suit. But he also asked them to send over more web bombs, web mines, acid bombs along with the formula for the webbing they created because he ran through the supply they sent with his suit. Luckily, Barry was able to help make everything quickly and they sent a surplus of gear to him. He restocked his belt with web gadgets and web fluid before grabbing a water bottle and taking a quick sip.
"How is it out there?" Dig asked Will.
"Honestly, we're lucky it's not worse but it's not pleasant. Brick's making himself one of the new powers in the city but he's not alone. For every bad guy I put away, two more go join Brick and every gang and organization is trying to make a play for power. Roy and I are stretched thin and backing up the SCPD but it's not easy." Will stated and they agreed.
"Brick's got more followers ever since his theft at the evidence warehouse and anyone who isn't affiliated with a known group is joining up with him. They've been sticking primarily to the Glades but we can't count on him staying there for long." Roy added.
"And I thought school starting up again would give me a headache." Will pinched the bridge of his nose and messed with his hair a bit. "So, Dig. You're gonna help us out there? I've got one of my old masks if you don't mind repping for team Spider-man."
Roy and Dig chuckled at the little moment of light humor which given what was going on was needed. "I appreciate that but I'll be fine. And you're right that it might be necessary for all hands on deck here."
"Any word from Felicity?" Will wondered and Dig shook his head. He looked over at the empty seat by the computers and then at the Arrow suit on its mannequin. "We could really use her help out there."
"Yeah, I know." Dig replied.
Will took one more deep breath before he reloaded his web shooters and slipped his mask on. "Time to go back to work. Let me know if something comes up." He slipped out the back door and went back into the city to help and show everyone that Spider-man was still here to stay.
Line Break xxxxx
A black sedan drove into the parking lot of the Starling International Airport and driving said car was Spencer. She got the car from her parents and drove to the airport because Aria and Emily were arriving today. Happy coincidence that their flights landed close enough that they could be picked up together and Maya would be in later today before classes started up tomorrow. She parked the car, took out the keys and unbuckled her seatbelt only to see Will slumped against the window in the passenger seat. His head was laying against the window which made his nose scrunch up and his mouth was open so he was drooling. It was actually kind of funny and very unflattering which Spencer took advantage of as she quietly got out of the car and took a photo.
"If only people could see Spider-man now…" Spencer giggled as she made the photo her phone's wallpaper before pounding the top of the car and jolting Will awake. "Wake up, sleeping beauty and clean up the drool you left behind."
"Huh…" Will rubbed his eyes to see they were at the airport and the small puddle of drool on the door and by his mouth. "Sorry."
He wiped it away and got out of the car, the cold air of winter helping him wake up a bit as he shook his head and fixed his hair. "You look like crap." Spencer told him.
"Yeah, I know." Will fixed his sweater as the two made their way to baggage claim. "I got back home around four in the morning. It's like the bad guys didn't want to go to sleep. I need some coffee."
"You need some sleep. When we get Aria and Emily settled back in you should take a nap or something." Spencer told him as the two went to a small coffee stand. Spencer got a latte and Will got a double shot of espresso.
"If only it were that simple." He replied, sipping his coffee, and hoping it would do its job to keep his awake and not fizzle out like alcohol does to him.
"I don't think this is a Will Detmer related issue so it's probably Spider-man." Spencer pointed out.
"It is. Brick's still MIA and even with hours of working last night his crew is still out there and I've got no idea what his plan is." Will explained. "On top of that, Laurel's got herself a death wish. She's the blonde woman in black running around with the bo staff trying to help people."
"What?" Spencer was not expecting to hear that.
"Yeah, I know. Arsenal and I had to save her last night or else she could have gotten killed." He added.
"That does explain why she's been so tired at the office. I just can't believe she would do this." Spencer said.
"I know. Well, I told her father so hopefully that fixes everything. Honestly, the last thing I need on top of everything is trying to babysit Laurel and make sure she doesn't get herself killed." He said to her.
"Life isn't easy as Spider-man, is it?" Spencer said and Will chuckled.
"No, it's not." He replied when he saw Aria come down the escalator to baggage claim. "But my life does have its bright spots."
He handed Spencer his coffee and walked over when Aria saw him. She rushed over and jumped into his arms and he caught her, spinning her around and the two sharing a passionate kiss like you'd see in a romcom. "Oh, you really did miss me." Aria said to him as he kissed her all over her face which made her chuckle.
"I did. It's really good to see you." He put her down as the two held each other close before Aria looked at him and saw he looked tired.
"You look tired. Are you ok?" She asked.
"Better now that you're here." He said and she smiled before giving him another kiss.
"Cheesy but very sweet." Aria hugged him and put her head on his chest as Will held her close.
"Ahem…" They heard as Spencer walked over. "You two might want to take it easy on the PDA. Save it for when we're back on campus."
"Hey, Spencer." Aria and her hugged before Spencer handed Will his coffee back. "So, I know we talked every day but what did I miss?"
"Personally, not that much. In the city…kind of a lot." Will said as they helped her get her bag and then hung around a bit until Emily showed up.
Palmer Technologies
Felicity was sitting at her desk in her office, just thinking about Oliver and how he was really gone. She had cried her eyes out the past week but not she had no tears left and was just sad.
"Hey." Ray Palmer walked in.
"What are you doing here so early?" Felicity asked. "The meeting's not for another three hours."
"Yeah, well I convinced Mayor Castle it might be a good idea to move it up. What, with a murderous killer running amuck in the city." Ray pointed out.
"Isn't that what the police are for?" Felicity reminded him as she put on her glasses and jacket.
"Well, she wanted to speak to city leaders. And I'll help in whatever way I can." Ray stated.
"And by help, you mean money and counsel, not a suit powered by Dwarf star alloy that fires lasers at people?"
"Well, they aren't lasers. That would be ridiculous. They're compressed hard light beams. And they don't actually fire, because I can't get anyone, specifically you, to help me fix the nanite chip." Ray pleaded again, holding up the chip in his hand.
"Well, I already told you, Ray, I am not interested in helping you with your suicide mission. And there is nothing you can say or do that is going to change my mind. Are you ready to go?" Felicity asked as she walked out of her office and Ray followed.
She and Ray were going to City Hall to speak with the Mayor and the rest of the City leadership. Attending the meeting was going to be the police commissioner and Captain Lance who was currently on the phone with Yuri.
"Sorry, Captain but none of Brick's men are talking. They're more afraid of him then they are of us. We're getting nowhere but they keep saying that Brick has something big planned and there is nothing that we or Spider-man can do to stop him." Yuri said over the phone as she was currently at the SCPD leading the other officers in their tasks to find Brick. She was a detective but had started to take up more of a leadership role since she and Captain Lance began working together. "It's the last part that's got me concerned."
"What do you think? Brick's bringing in outside help to try and stop Spider-man?" Lance wondered.
"That's exactly what I think. One of my CIs said that Brick apparently saved up a lot of money for some new equipment and weapons. I think things are only going to get worse." Yuri told him.
"Hopefully the Mayor gets us the additional funding we need and then we can take down Brick. Keep Will looped in on everything and don't make any sudden moves on him. We've learned that mistake the hard way." Lance told her and hung up just as Laurel arrived.
"Hi. Sorry I'm late." Laurel told him.
"You're not late. Castle's still hashing things out with her people." Lance pointed at the Mayor who was still speaking with her staff before he brought her over to a quiet part of the room so they could speak in private. "Are you ok? You're not hurt?"
"I'm fine." Laurel answered.
"Really, what about the knife wound on your arm you got last night?" Lance asked her.
"Will told you, didn't he?"
"He did. And he told me that you've been doing this for the past week and you're certifiable if you think I'm gonna let you go back out there again." Lance warned her.
"Dad, I can handle myself and the people in this city need help." Laurel told him.
"Well, guess what? We both know an actual superhero with super powers who can do that. He's taken on every gang in this city, swings around buildings on ropes or whatever and took down a charging guy in a Rhino-suit and another guy made of actual sand. I think he can handle this. You, young lady are the ADA with a very expensive law degree and some self defense classes and boxing lessons. That does not put you on equal footing with him or the Arrow, even if you put on Sara's costume." Lance stated. "I lost Sara, and I'm not about to lose you too."
"Well, I've made up my mind and I'm not stopping. So, unless you're gonna throw me in jail then you can't stop me." Laurel replied.
"Don't think I won't do it to keep you safe. And I also told Will that if he should ever catch you out there again to tie you up and bring him home." Lance warned her. "I'm not about to lose you, no matter what."
Lance's desperation and sorrow about the thought of losing Laurel was evident. Even if Laurel had the best intentions he was not going to lose her. "All right, thank you everyone for coming, please take your seats." Mayor Castle said as everyone got into the conference room. "As you know, over the last week, a criminal organization headed by Danny Brickwell has been on a crime spree unlike anything since Al Capone."
"Which begs the question—why aren't you arresting him?" An Alderman asked Captain Lance.
"We sent in an ESU team to do just that. Most of those men are in the hospital now. Now we got no clue where he's holed up. Didn't help that the entire city was busy putting our resources on a manhunt for Spider-man on the word of a man who turned out to be the biggest crime boss in all of Starling." Lance pointed out as Mayor Castle and the other city officials squirmed in their seats. "Yeah, I guess taking dirty money from a criminal must look bad for the public. Well, if I had more money from City hall then I could put more men on the hunt for Brick but it looks like things are sort of locked up here."
"Ah, I've got a few bucks." They heard as Ray Palmer and Felicity walked in. "Sorry. In fact, Palmer Technology has just made a large donation to the SCPD and the city to make up for what Tombstone has done but it'll take some time for that personal equipment to do any good. We need to consider calling in the National Guard."
That's when one of the windows to the conference room was busted open followed up by gun shots and a smoke grenade thrown in after. Lance rushed over to his daughter and covered her with Ray Palmer doing the same with Felicity. The doors to the conference room were kicked in and in walked Daniel Brickwell with a few of him men using brand new and high-tech rifles and with them was none other than Shocker in his suit. Several Security guards arrived from one of the doors so Shocker fired an energy blast that knocked them through a wall.
"I've always wanted to meet the mayor!" Brick remarked before throwing down one of the clerks he was holding at gunpoint. "Bring her and the Aldermen!"
Brick shot the clerk before he walked away as some of his men grabbed three city Aldermen. The Mayor was escorted to the exit by her guard only for Shocker to blast him through the door with an energy blast. Lance fired a few shots from his pistol but the bullets couldn't pierce his suit. Shocker just looked at Lance and chuckled before firing an energy blast that would have hit him had Laurel not tackled him out of the way so only some furniture was destroyed.
Shocker grabbed the Mayor and pulled her to her feet. "I'd advise not trying to run away. It wouldn't be good for your health." Shocker warned her, taking her away with the rest of Brick's men following him. A few stayed behind and shot up the place, hitting a few workers. Lance ducked behind a desk for cover while Laurel fought against another. Ray tried to take down one of the gunmen but since he had no idea what he was doing he just tackled him onto the table. It did knock the gun away but he ended up getting punched in the head and knocked off. The gunman almost shot him but Lance knocked him out. The other gunman in the room threw Laurel into the wall but she broke off the bottom of her heel and stabbed him in the hand before landing a left cross to the face that knocked him out.
"See? That's why I need a technosuit?" Ray whispered to Felicity.
"Please tell me that didn't just happen." Laurel said.
"It did. Brick's got the Mayor and the Aldermen." Lance grit his teeth in anger at what just happened. A criminal had the balls to walk into city hall, shoot up the place, and actually kidnapped the Mayor and the City Aldermen. This wasn't good. The SCPD were called in to secure the area as well as City Hall with SWAT and ESU on alert. The Police Commissioner had the rest of the city's precincts on high alert and Lance was now going to make sure Brick paid for this and they got everyone back. He walked through the crowd of police and city employees to speak to Felicity. "Hey. You ok?"
"I'm fine. How's your heart?" Felicity wondered.
"Still beating. Look, as much as I hate the guy, I couldn't help but notice that nobody in a green hood showed up to save the day." Lance told her.
"That's because he's gone."
"What do you mean, gone?" Lance was confused.
"It means we're on our own." Felicity told him.
"Great, as if we didn't have enough to deal with. But we do have someone else who can help." Lance pointed out. "I'm not sure how familiar you are with a certain red and blue arachnid we have swinging around but I would suggest making yourself familiar with him because we're gonna need his help."
"I'm familiar." Felicity answered.
"Good, because if we're gonna get the mayor back and take Brick down then he's gonna need your help. You and the rest of the team the Arrow had working for him." Lance told her before walking off to make a call.
Back with Will, he and the girls arrived at SCU and he finished helping them move back in to their dorm room. Will put their empty luggage in the closet as the girls finished putting their clothes away. He noticed Aria hiding something in a bag so he walked over to take a peek only for her to hide it.
"No, no peeking." She told him.
"Oh, why? Is it embarrassing?" He wondered.
"No, it's a surprise for you and I don't want to spoil it to stay away." Aria told him. "It's a…naughty surprise."
"Oh, then I can wait and I'll be happy for whatever it is." He crossed his heart and pulled her close before the two shared a kiss. Emily and Spencer watched the couple get all lovey-dovey after a winter break of not being together. It was cute.
"Easy, you two. Come up for some air." Spencer remarked as Will and Aria chuckled.
"We love that you two are still going strong but please remember that there are two other people in this room. Will has his own room as you both probably know." Emily reminded them.
"Of course, don't worry, EM. I wouldn't kick you out of your room. If anything, it might be you kicking out Spencer. What if Maya doesn't get a single?" Will pointed out as Emily did think about that before she looked over at Spencer.
"I'm not going back to my parent's place so you can forget it." Spencer told her.
"Guess, you'll have to work that out going forward." Aria joked as Will hugged her from behind and kissed her head. "Now, I don't know about the rest of you but I could really go for a spicy tuna roll with crispy rice from Toro's."
"Oh, that sounds good." Emily was on board with that decision for lunch.
"Actually, girls I think it might be a better idea if we don't go out. We should find someplace closer to campus or order in some pizza? If you want, I can make a run to Toro's and pick it up but going out might not be the best idea." Will told Emily and Aria.
"Why, what's going on?" Emily asked.
"Things out in the city aren't exactly the best." He replied.
"I thought Tombstone or the Big Man was on the run? That's a good thing right?" Emily pointed out.
"Is this about the Brick guy you told me about?" Aria asked and he nodded.
"Will's been running himself ragged the past week trying to stop him and his gang from taking over the city. I've been helping him." Spencer told the two.
"Which I really appreciate but it's less a gang and more of an army. Brick's got the bravado of a dangerous criminal but enough smarts that he's managed to elude me so far. Plus, his actions have gotten the rest of the city's idiots to go crazy. Yuri, Captain Lance, and I have been working non-stop to try and catch him." Will explained when his phone rang. He checked and saw it was Captain Lance so he answered. "Speak of the devil. Hang on. Yeah?"
Will stepped aside so he could speak in private and the girls adjusted some of the things in the room when his phone call took a turn for the worse. "Wait, Brick did what? Shocker's with him?" The girls looked over at Will and could tell he wasn't happy. "Son of a bitch. This guy's nuts. I'm on my way to suit up. Don't worry, Captain. We'll get them back and stop Brick."
"What's wrong?" Aria asked as Will put his phone away.
"Brick just kidnapped the Mayor and three city Aldermen."
"What?" Spencer was not expecting to hear that.
"City Hall and the police are on full alert. Brick just started a war with the city so it's all hands on deck. You three stay here, or in my room or head to my mom's house. I think right now those three places might be the safest places for us in the city. I'll let you know if something comes up." He promised, giving Aria a quick kiss before leaving.
"There's got to be something we can do, right?" Emily pointed out.
"What can we do?" Aria asked her.
"I don't know. Maybe head to the hospital to help his mom?" Emily suggested.
"That's not a bad idea and I know how else we can help." Spencer then told them how they could help Will the best way they could. And they weren't the only ones. One of Brick's men who helped in the attack on City Hall was in an interrogation room and Laurel was going to use him to get information on Brick. It was the guy Laurel used her heel on and he hadn't said a word since he was arrested. That was about to change.
"Jim Huffman." Laurel said as she walked in, looking at his file. "34, eight arrests, no convictions. Grand theft auto, B&E, Drugs. You did pretty well flying solo. What made you decide to start working for Brick?"
"I'm not telling you anything."
"Are you sure about that? I still have another heel." Laurel suggested and the guy just scoffed. "Kidding. You don't have to talk about Brick, that's fine. Then let's talk about something else. Why would you murder Julio Salazar?"
"Salazar? Head of Los Halcones? I had nothing to do with him getting popped."
"Well, that's not what your files says. See?" Laurel showed him the SCPD police report.
"What kind of game is this? You just wrote that down! You're making this stuff up!"
"Actually, I can charge you with whatever crime that I want. Of course, then they'd have to keep you in custody until the trial. Good news—Belle Reve, it's a lot more comfortable than Iron Heights." Laurel told him.
"Belle Reve's where the Los Halcones are locked up. If they think I offed Salazar I won't last two seconds in there!"
"Tell me where I can find Danny Brickwell and you won't have to." Laurel warned him.
"He'll kill me." He pleaded but she didn't care.
"You helped kidnapped the mayor. You should be worried about us." Laurel closed the file and stood up. "Charges filed by Dinah Laurel Lance, Assistant District Atto—"
"Hey, stop! Stop!" He shouted and she did just before she walked out the door. "I'll tell you where you can find Brick."
At Palmer Tech, Felicity was tending to the injuries that Ray got at City Hall. He did make good on his promise for the donation to the police department and given what happened, the city needed it. "Are you ok?" Felicity asked, taking some stuff out of a med kit to help him.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Ray assured her.
"Armed gunmen attacking you. That had to have brought back a few bad memories." Felicity pointed out.
"Yeah. When it started, all I could think about was the night Anna died. But when that Gunman charged us, all I could think about was saving you." Ray told her as she used a cotton swab to dab away the blood and put some disinfectant on the wound. "You were right?"
"Hmm?"
"I've been going about this all wrong. When I started the ATOM project, it was all about avenging Anna. But what it has become about is…protecting the people I care for." Ray stated.
"You mean the city?" Felicity asked.
"No. I mean you." Ray told her. Hearing all of that seemed to give her a moment of pause as she really thought about what he said. That's when her phone rang and saw it was Will.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Hey, Felicity. Look, I get why you left and everything, I get it but right now I need your help. Please, just come to the bunker so we can at least talk." Will told her before hanging up. She gave it a moment before putting her phone away and going back to help Ray with his injuries.
Will arrived at the bunker after Roy told him that Laurel got intel on where Brick had the Mayor and the Aldermen. He walked in at the same time as Dig to see Roy suiting up and Laurel putting on her Canary gear.
"You sure you want to use that thing? We have plenty of other weapons." Roy told her.
"This was Sara's." Laurel replied as Will and Dig walked over.
"Roy, I thought we were on the same page with this." Dig told him.
"That was before Brick kidnapped the Mayor and three Aldermen. Laurel got their location and I put it through Felicity's surveillance program. They've already moved twice and are gonna move again so we can track them and get them enroute but the window's closing fast." Roy told them as he brought up surveillance footage of Brick and six of his men moving the Mayor and the Aldermen into a van for transport. Shocker was with them as well so this meant it wasn't going to be easy. Dig took out his Glock to make sure it was loaded.
"Good. Laurel, stay here and monitor the situation from us. Roy and I will go in on foot and Dig can provide sniper support from the roof." Will planned out.
"No, that's not how this is going to work." Laurel told him.
"I imagine your dad told you not to go out there and that I was supposed to tie you up if I tried. We're friends Laurel but don't think I won't to keep you safe." He told her.
"You wouldn't even have the intel about where the Mayor is without me." Laurel pointed out.
"Which is good intel but that doesn't mean you're going." Will grabbed her bo staff and webbed it to the ceiling so she couldn't get it before webbing a nearby chair and pulling it. He pulled it behind Laurel so she fell back into it before webbing up her arms and legs to it. "You and your dad will thank me for this."
"Don't you dar-mfftt." Laurel's web was mouthed as well.
"Sorry. I made a promise to Captain Lance and I'm keeping it. Any objections?" Will asked and Dig and Roy shook their heads no. "Good. Dig, put on a mask and get geared up."
Dig did, getting a spare balaclava mask along with some guns and ammo while Will suited up in his Spider-man suit. He restocked his belt and web shooters until everything was at capacity. Roy was in his Arsenal gear and making sure his quiver was holding all the arrows it could but he now had some new things to use. "Here, take a few of these." Will handed him a few of his web grenades which Roy put on his belt. "Press the button and throw. Be mindful of the spray."
"Thanks." Roy grabbed his bow and his mask while Dig hefted the sniper rifle over his shoulder. That's when he noticed Will seemed to be looking at the door like he was waiting for someone. "You ok?"
"Yeah, I was just hoping Felicity would be here. Dig, do you have a tracer round?" Will asked and Dig nodded. "Good, incase something goes wrong we can at least track them. All right, let's go."
Will put on his mask as did Roy and Did as the three left the bunker. Laurel just had to watch them leave but did see a knife on the table so she slowly skidded her chair over to grab it and cut herself free.
Line Break xxxxx
Will, Roy, and Diggle arrived in the alleyway that Brick would be driving through with the Mayor and Aldermen. Dig would be posted up on the roof to provide sniper support while Will and Roy would go down and get the hostages. He called Yuri and told her where Brick would be and his plan to get the hostages back but given the short time frame, Lance couldn't get a massive tactical team with air support and backup. He was able to get Yuri to go in with some SCPD volunteers and two SWAT teams. They'd be arriving soon and would be able to box Brick in to keep him from escaping.
"All right, get ready. Roy, remember. Focus on Brick's men and don't engage Shocker. One blast from his gauntlets and he could knock you through a wall. Leave him to me but if you see an opening fire an explosive arrow at his gauntlets. If we take them out of commission then this could be over quickly." Will suggested.
"Got it." Roy replied.
"Here they come guys." Dig told them, seeing them through his sniper scope. The van holding the hostages was in the middle of two sedans. Roy pulled out an explosive arrow and fired, hitting the engine of the van causing it to swerve to a stop. He fired another explosive arrow at the sedan in the rear, causing it to crash to a stop as well. One of Brick's men got out of the rear sedan and fired at Arsenal only for Dig to take him out with a sniper shot. Arsenal rappelled down to the ground as the driver of the lead Sedan got out and pulled out a high-tech pistol. He pulled the trigger and fired at Arsenal but instead of a regular bullet, this one was glowing red and while it missed, it managed to bury into the side of a building with a heat trail and scorched the impact area. Arsenal fired an arrow and hit him in the leg before ducking behind a dumpster as Brick and his men fired at Arsenal with similar high-tech assault rifles and pistols. Whatever bullets they were using had enough heat and force that they went straight through the metal dumpster and into the side of the building.
"What the hell kind of guns are those?!" Arsenal shouted as Spider-man swung by and grabbed his arm, carrying him out from the fire.
"Looks like they upgraded!" Spider-man told him, letting him go mid-swing.
Arsenal rolled from the drop and took out one of Brick's men with a leg swipe and knee to the face before throwing a web grenade which ensnared three others from shooting him. He fired a flashbang arrow at them and proceeded to beat them down as Brick and another of his men reloaded their guns to shoot the red hooded archer. Before they could fire a shot, their guns were webbed out of their hands. Spider-man web zipped at Brick's guy and nailed a flying kick to his face that knocked him into a wall before backflipping into the air to avoid Brick shooting at him with his regular silver Beretta. He webbed a garbage can and hurled it at Brick, hitting him in the head before he slid between his legs and kicked him in the back so he went flying face first into a sewer grate.
His spider-sense tingled so he side flipped to avoid an energy blast from Shocker who got out of the lead sedan and focused his attention on him. "I was hoping I'd run into you again, bug. I owe you for the embarrassment you handed me."
"Any embarrassment I handed you wasn't mine to begin with. Between the outfit and the accent, you had it handled all by yourself." Spider-man quipped, backflipping in the air to avoid Shocker's blast before web throwing some garbage cans at Shocker to occupy him. "But I will admit that it was enjoyable and unfortunately going to have the exact same outcome this time as well!"
"Not if I can help it!" Shocker fired another blast that Will dodged. He slid on the ground and fired a barrage of web bullets that Shocker blew apart but left him open to a web zip kick to the face that knocked him into some garbage.
"I'm rather enjoying the playful irony in this moment." Spider-man fired some impact webbing that ensnared Shocker only for the suit to hum and release a vibrational pulse that tore it to pieces. "That's new."
"Brick introduced us to a new purveyor and the Tinkerer made some nice upgrades to deal with you, bug!" Shocker aimed his gauntlets behind his back and fired them which made them act like engines as he flew forward and tackled Spider-man to the ground.
"Ugh…ok, those are some smart upgrades!" Spider-man quickly fired a web at a wall and managed to pull himself free while Shocker landed on his feet. He turned to blast him when he heard a loud sonic screech that made his suit fluctuate a bit as it filtered out the noise and unknown sonic vibrations. Spider-man covered his ears as did everyone else and all the nearby windows exploded curtesy of Laurel's arrival and using Sara's sonic emitter. She thought it would have taken out Shocker but his suit counteracted her sonic vibrations.
"Nice try, girl but that don't work on me." Shocker raised his gauntlet only for Spider-man to web him from behind and hurl him into a wall.
"What are you doing here?!" Spider-man asked her.
"Saving you, apparently." Laurel told him.
"Will, Shocker's getting back up!" Diggle shouted, firing a shot to keep him pinned down but his suit absorbed the energy of the bullet and it clanked harmlessly to the ground. Shocker saw Dig up on the roof so he fired an energy blast. Dig dove back and managed to avoid a direct hit but the impact did knock him out. Spider-man saw Shocker back up and Arsenal was taking out the last of Brick's men.
"Get the hostages out of the van! The SCPD should be here soon!" He told her before he web zipped away and hit Shocker with a flying tackle while Laurel rushed over to the van. Spider-man rolled from the flying tackle and threw Shocker into the air before web throwing him into a fire escape. He then web pulled him out of the fire escape and backflip kicked him in the face before landing a 720 spin kick to the chest that knocked him to the ground. "And seriously, Shocker. Kidnapping? I mean, isn't that a little beneath you? When you came after me before at least you were a gun for hire. This is a new low."
"I like to think of it as a new high. Brick gave us a pretty good deal and we weren't gonna miss an opportunity to take you down." Shocker told him.
"We?" Spider-man didn't think Ox and Fancy Dan would be that big of a threat. How wrong he would be.
Arsenal finished taking down the last of Brick's guys and rushed over to help Laurel with the hostages in the van but before the two could open up the back, the doors were blown off their hinges and knocked the both of them down. Laurel and Arsenal groaned in pain as they saw two men step out of the back of the van. They had armored suits like Shocker but were different. The regular height man had a red and grey suit with high tech pistons and hydraulics around the arms and legs with a collection of metal throwing discs on his arms while the other was grey, made with a sturdy metal material and larger pneumatic valves on the arms and back. It also made his already large frame and height even larger.
"That we!" Shocker blasted Spider-man and knocked him down the alleyway. Arsenal took out a web grenade and threw it at the two new suited adversaries but the red suited one jumped away with incredible speed and agility before bouncing off a wall and hitting Laurel back with a flying kick to the side. The larger one just let the web grenade explode and ripped himself free of the webbing with no problem. Arsenal pulled out an arrow and fired it at point blank range but it broke against the suit.
"Hmm, that tingles." The large man said before attempting a wild haymaker that Arsenal was able to roll away from only to get hit in the back by the red suited guy who was moving and bouncing around super-fast. Arsenal hit the ground and rolled next to Laurel as the large man raised his arms to bash them both into the ground only for Spider-man to web them and pulled them out of harms way at the last second.
"You've got your friends, bug. Let me reintroduce you to mine: Ox and Ricochet. Meet the new Enforcers." Shocker joined them and three suited bad guys managed to sway Will's confidence.
"That's not good." Laurel remarked.
"Will, get out of the way! I'm coming through!" He heard Yuri shout over the comms along with the sound of an engine going at high speed and then his spider-sense. He grabbed Laurel and Arsenal before backflipping high into the air as Yuri sped into the alleyway in her police cruiser, intent on forcing the Enforcers to scramble for cover but that didn't happen. Ox just got in front and caught the car as it hit him. His suit protected him and the enhanced strength it gave him was enough to stop the speeding car in its tracks. Ricochet pulled out some sharp metal disks from his belt and hurled them at the front window but Yuri managed to duck just in time. She got up back and emptied her clip at the bad guys but Ox got in front and they bounced off his armor like they were BB pellets.
"My turn." Ox grabbed the hood of the car and began to lift it in the air with the full intent of smashing it to pieces with her inside. That's when an arrow with a metal tip hit him in the chest which exploded in a loud bang and flash of light. The flashbang arrow concussed the Enforcers allowing Spider-man to rush over, vault over the car and pull Yuri out to safety before Ox dropped the vehicle. He flipped backward and threw two web bombs, momentarily capturing the Enforcers which allowed him to put Yuri on the ground.
"Get the hostages out of here! I'll handle them." Spider-man told them as Ox ripped them free of the webbing. He web zipped to the side to avoid Shocker's blast and ran on the wall as Ricochet jumped toward him. Spider-man flipped into the air to avoid Ricochet only for Shocker to blast him. Ricochet bounced off the ground and then the fire escape before kicking Spider-man in the back which sent him into Ox who punched him into a wall. "Ok…those are some pretty good suits."
"You ain't seen nothing yet, Bug. Ox, you're up!" Shocker shouted and Ox picked up one of the doors he punched off the van and threw it only for Spider-man to side flip out of the way. "Ricochet, go!"
Ricochet ran forward at impressive speed and attempted a spinning hook kick that Spider-man flipped over to avoid and fired some web bullets. "The New Enforcers was kind of lame but seriously? Ox? Ricochet? Those names might seem cool on the ranch…" Spider-man quickly leapt over Ox who tried to hit him with a big hammer arm smash. He fired some webbing only for Ricochet to bounce off a wall and kick him in the side. Ox then grabbed Spider-man's leg and hurled into the front sedan which Shocker then blasted so he and the car flipped on its side.
"We're just getting started, Spider-man." Ricochet taunted as he landed next to Shocker and Ox. The three battle suit mercenaries were so focused on Spider-man that Arsenal, Laurel, and Yuri escaped their attention. The three took cover behind the wreckage of Yuri's car and saw Spider-man get up out of the car wreckage before ducking and weaving through Ox's wild attacks. He backflip kicked the merc in the face and flipped over his head before firing a web to swing kick Shocker only for Ricochet to slice it with one of his metal discs. He lost his momentum but managed to web zip to the side to avoid getting hit by Shocker's blast. He was handling his own against the New Enforcers but just barely.
"He's got their attention. Let's get the hostages." Yuri led them over to the van where they saw Mayor and the City Aldermen who were all tied up and gagged. "Don't worry. We're gonna get you out of here."
Arsenal took out a knife and proceeded to cut the ropes holding the hostages together as Laurel and Yuri helped them out of the van. With their attention focused on the bad they didn't see Brick walk over to them with his gun.
"Will, Brick's up and he's going after Laurel!" He heard Spencer shout over his comm as he avoided all of Ricochet's punches and kicks before sliding between his legs and kicking him in the face. She was tapped into his helmet feed and used it to watch nearby street camera footage.
"Dammit!" He flipped over Ox and webbed him in the face before spinning through the air to avoid Shocker's energy blasts and shot a web line at his foot. He pulled and knocked Shocker onto his back before web zipping to the others.
Laurel and Yuri helped the Mayor and one of the Aldermen out of the van when Brick walked over. Yuri pulled out her gun to shoot him but he grabbed her wrist and threw her to the ground before kicking Arsenal in the gut and knocking him into the van. Laurel landed a left and right cross on Brick but he just grabbed her by the throat and squeezed.
"Lucky for you I don't like hitting women." He just tossed her to the ground next to Yuri and grabbed the Mayor when Spider-man landed on his shoulders and threw him to the ground with a hurricanrana. Brick rolled on the ground and Spider-man landed in a crouch in front of the Mayor to protect her.
"Get them out of here!" Spider-man shouted as he web zipped forward and kicked Brick in the gut. Yuri and the others got back up and managed to get the rest of the hostages out of the van and ran out of the alley.
"This is Detective Watanabe! I have the hostages! Move in, now!" She shouted over the radio as she, Arsenal and Laurel ran out of the alleyway to protect the hostages.
Spider-man kicked Brick in the gut, before throwing out right cross to the face, a left uppercut to the ribs, he kicked out his right leg, kneed him in the face, a spin kick to the side of the head, a hook kick to the other side of the head and then a powerful uppercut that knocked Brick into the air. He finished him by firing a web at the crime boss and hurled him into the ground before backflipping to avoid Shocker's energy blast. Seeing the hostages escape and the rest of Brick's men made him smile.
"Will, the SCPD are pulling up now." Spencer told him and he chuckled.
"Your parties over, Brickhead! Give up now and you can enjoy chili night at Iron Heights. And there's no burning evidence to get you out of this one." Spider-man warned him only for Ricochet and Ox to help Brick back to his feet. His face was bleeding and he was in visible pain but Brick was still up. He was a tough bastard.
"Not gonna happen, Spider-man! I'm gonna kill you!" Brick shouted as Shocker fired several blasts from his gauntlet that he had to dodge. Ricochet jumped on top of Ox and used him as a springboard to leap to a nearby wall and then bounced off towards Spider-man throwing his metal discs mid-flight. Brick picked up one of the high tech pistols from the ground and fired at the hero as well with Spider-man managing to dodge all the projectiles thrown at him. Ricochet then tackled him mid-air and the two wrestled on the ground until Spider-man kicked him off and then a did a kip-up back to his feet where he landed a spinning hook kick to his face.
Brick reloaded his high-tech pistol and emptied the clip as Spider-man ducked and dodged along with dodging Shocker's blasts before backflipping up high to avoid Ricochet's flying kick to the back. During his flip, one of the high-tech bullets skimmed past his left arm which actually managed to cut his suit and singe the material. His suit was made of reinforced material that was nearly bulletproof and he had tanked Shocker's blasts without it tearing. Whatever those bullets were made of and whoever designed them was dangerous. Spider-man landed on the ground and then quickly did a one handed backhand spring to avoid getting squashed by Ox and then leap into a 720 spin where he threw out a kick only for Ox to grab his leg and hurl him into the van.
Before they could finish him off, two SCPD police cruisers drove into the alleyway in front of them and then a SWAT truck came from the other end along with two more cruisers. They were boxed in and the SWAT truck was blocking off their escape route. The SCPD officers got out of the cruiser and aimed their pistols and shotguns at the criminals while the SWAT team had their assault rifles aimed at them. "SCPD, Daniel Brickwell you are under arrest! Lay down your weapon and put your hands behind your head! This is your only warning!"
"Things are looking a little dicey here, boss. Might be a good idea if we get moving." Shocker pointed out.
"Right. Let's get out of here. Bury them if they get in the way." Brick told him.
"Got it." Shocker fired an energy blast at the police cruiser, destroying it and causing it to crash into the other. The officers who got hit directly were knocked back with the force equivalent of getting hit by a car and the ones that weren't in the direct path were still knocked back. The Swat members and the officers on the other side of the alleyway opened fire at them but Ox got in front to act as a shield. Ricochet leapt in the air and landed by the police where he began taking them out with hand-to-hand combat. Quick strikes, bone breaks, and using his throwing disks to slice some of their guns while using his suits speed and acceleration to move around faster than they could stop him.
Spider-man climbed out of the wreckage of the van with a headache and aching ribs to see a police cruiser smashed into another one and an officer was pinned. Guess the police backup didn't work out. He toughed through the pain and rushed over to help with his HUD scanning the officer and detecting some broken bones but nothing life threatening. "Hang on, I'll get you out of there." He promised and the officer nodded. He grabbed one end of the car and pulled, causing the officer to shout in pain. The sound of screeching and groaning metal drowned it out before he managed to finally pull the car out of the other one and free the pinned officer. One of the other officers came over and helped him when he saw Ricochet beat down the other police. Ricochet spin kicked two officers at once and then bounced off their bodies to land on top of the Swat truck which was promptly blasted out of the way by Shocker. Up on the roof, the sudden shockwave blast shook the building and managed to jostle Dig from his unconscious state. He only got a minor blast from Shockwave but it hurt like hell and felt like getting tackled by a linebacker…made of metal. He got up and saw Shocker along with two new masked guys and Brick who were about to make their escape so he grabbed the sniper rifle and loaded the tracking round.
"Ox, lead the way!" Shocker shouted as Brick climbed onto Ox's back.
"Keep up!" Ox took off running down the alleyway where he kicked the Swat van to the side a bit and knocked back any other officers who got in his way. Dig took aim with his sniper at Ox and fired as he was making a run for it. The round managed to tag Ox on the ankle and the signal was clear. Shocker was right behind Ox and Ricochet threw some metal discs at the cruisers wheels so they couldn't follow before following behind. Ricochet threw some more metal discs at some officers who were getting up but they were webbed yanked out of the air by Spider-man who zipped over and landed on the ground. Shocker saw that Spider-man chasing after them could be a problem but being a hero, he'd have to look after the cops to keep them from getting hurt which gave him an idea.
"Ox, throw a parting gift to the bug!" Shocker shouted so Ox ripped a light pole out of the ground and hurled it at them. Shocker made it deadly by firing an energy blast at it so it spun like a boomerang towards the officers on the ground.
Spider-man webbed them out of the way just in time as the light pole had enough force and speed that it was impaled in the ground. He pulled them over to him and the other officers he saved from Ricochet's metal discs. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, thanks Spider-man." They replied.
"This has been fun, bug but we're gonna have to take a rain check. Don't worry, I plan on finding you again." Shocker fired both his gauntlets at a car parked on the street and hit it at the right angle so it was spun through the air towards them. It was spinning out of control and heading toward him and the cops incredibly fast, giving him little time to act. He grabbed all four officers and hurled them to his right before firing some webbing just as the spinning car hit him and both crashed into a building.
The officers were all right even though they were thrown away as they were caught in the web net that Spider-man fired before he was hit by the car. They saw that Brick and his accomplices were long go so they rushed over to try to remove the car that crashed into a building and help Spider-man.
"Delta-Charlie-9 to Central, we need backup and paramedics at our location now!" An officer radioed as the others tried to move some of the wreckage out of the way and pull the car free. They backed away when the car began to fidget and move a bit before it was finally pushed out of the hole it made in the building and they could see Spider-man there. His suit was scratched up and cut but he was miraculously alive.
"Hey, hey you all right?" The Swat sergeant got to his side and helped support him as he walked out of the wreckage.
"Yeah but I know what a panini sandwich feels like." Spider-man replied. "Is anyone hurt?"
"No, we're fine." An officer told him as he helped Spider-man lean against the destroyed car to rest. "But Brick's gone with Shocker and those two others."
"The rest of his men are incapacitated or tied up. Back up is on its way." The Swat sergeant told him. "And we got word that Mayor Castle and the Aldermen are safe in SCPD custody. They're heading to the hospital now. You saved them."
"All in a night's work." Spider-man held his left side in pain before taking a deep breath and standing up. "But it's not over."
"Whoa, you should try and take it easy. You waked away from something that would have killed anyone else. You should go to the hospital." An officer told him.
"Can't really do that given the whole secret identity thing and Brick's still out there. No one in the city is safe until they're taken care of so I've got to go. Tell the Mayor I'm glad she's safe. And tell your captain and everyone else to get ready to act. I'm gonna get Brick." Spider-man promised and limped away before firing a web line and swinging away just as backup and the paramedics arrived.
Dig had climbed down from the roof and made his way to the van parked a few blocks away where Roy and Laurel were waiting for them. After they managed to rescue the Mayor and the Aldermen with Yuri, SCPD backup arrived and took them to the hospital which is when the two made their escape. They were waiting at the van just as Dig arrived when they heard a thwipping sound and saw Will swing down to them. He landed on the ground but lost his footing and fell on his side.
"Will!" Laurel and Roy rushed over and helped him back to his feet.
"Trust me, it's not as bad as it looks." Will assured them as Dig opened up the door and they carefully placed him in the back.
"We need to get you to the hospital." Dig told him.
"No, it's too risky. Just get me back to the bunker. I'll take care of it." Will told him and Dig nodded as they all got in the van and drove to the bunker. With his somehow still functioning HUD, he called someone for help and told them where to meet him.
Waiting at the bunker was Felicity of all people. She finally arrived after getting Will's call and arrived at the bunker a few minutes ago. No one was around and judging by the news she was currently watching on the monitors she knew what they were doing.
"Danny Brickwell is still at large tonight after abducting three City Aldermen and Mayor Castle from City Hall earlier today. Though he's managed to evade SCPD thus far—cell phone and CCTV camera footage does show Spider-man along with two people associated with the Arrow, the Red Arrow and the Woman in Black, in pursuit. We now have confirmation that thanks to the efforts of those individuals and SCPD Detective Yuri Watanabe, Mayor Castle and the City Aldermen were rescued and are currently being looked after at Starling City General under heavy guard." The News reporter said as CCTV security footage and cellphone footage showed the fight against Brick and his men. Spider-man, Arsenal, and surprisingly a woman in black with blonde hair as well. Felicity recognized her body as Laurel but she didn't know that Laurel had taken up her sister's mantle.
"Reports are now trickling in about the appearance of an individual known as Shocker. Viewers might recognize Shocker as a criminal with an advanced battle suit who was apprehended by the Spider-man last year and was sent to Iron Heights prison but was one of the individuals released when Danny Brickwell laid siege to the SCPD evidence warehouse. He wasn't alone as we have cellphone footage of two new armored suit associates who were also engaged in a fight with Spider-man. Despite the best efforts of the vigilante and SCPD officers, Danny Brickwell and the three armored criminals managed to escape capture and caused severe property damage but amazingly no casualties were reported. The location of Brick and his compatriots is currently unknown but the SCPD are working diligently to apprehend him. In a city wide poll conducted here at Channel 52, Starling City is showing an overall favorable opinion of the Spider-man with an approval rate of 72%. After the revelation of L. Thompson Lincoln as a Starling City crime boss and Spider-man's subsequent framing, many are advocating their support for Starling City's web slinging vigilante but time will tell how long that will last."
Felicity smiled as she watched the news and saw the poll results. The city was really loving Spider-man and those that didn't like him either didn't want vigilantes/heroes in general, had criminal backgrounds, were criminals, or people who felt he was a menace. She heard the door open and the clatter of feet which is when she saw Laurel come down the stairs while Roy and Diggle helped support Will. His suit was torn up, marred with battle damage and he didn't look good.
"Oh my god, Will!" Felicity rushed over as Dig and Roy put him on a table.
"It looks worse than it actually is." Will assured her, pulling off his mask and feeling the cut on the side of his head, his busted lip and the growing of a black eye. "Trust me."
"You look half dead." Felicity corrected him as Laurel came over with a med-kit. Dig got out some bandages, gauze, and antiseptic wipes when they heard a knock on the alleyway door to Verdant.
"Who's that?" Roy asked so Felicity walked over to see and it was a woman with a large bag waiting outside.
"I don't know her." Felicity replied.
"It's my mom. I called her." Will answered. "I can't go to a hospital so I brought one here. She knows I'm Spider-man and she can keep a secret. Trust me."
Dig looked at the state Will was in and he needed the help. Plus, he had been solid with them and would never put them in danger so he nodded to Felicity who hit a button which unlocked the door. May walked in and saw the impressive hero bunker and the little vigilante club but her focus was on her son. But she did noticed Laurel wearing an all-black leather suit.
"I'm not even going to ask, I'm just here to help." May walked over and put her bag on the table next to Will and saw the state he was in. "How do you feel?"
"Not bad considering how tonight went but I don't think anything's broken." He answered, pressing the emblem of his suit which enlarged and fell off his body. His chest and torso was badly bruised which caught everyone off guard. Blotches of his skin were a deep purple and that along with the cuts gave everyone a good idea of how much pain he was in. If he was any normal person he'd either be dead or wouldn't even be able to walk.
"Oh my god…" Dig muttered.
"Guess this is what happens when you save the police from finding out what a panini press feels like. Suit absorbed most of it and my spider-like durability did the rest. My healing is kicking in but I wouldn't mind something some help to make the recovery process a little faster." Will pointed out as May opened up her bag and took out her stethoscope to check his lungs.
"Joking when you're in this condition. Your father would smack you upside the head." May said, slapping him upside the head gently but she did it to make her point.
"Easy with the ring." He replied while May checked his breathing and to her relief she didn't hear anything bad.
"Your airways sound clear and I don't hear any grinding or wheezing so no ribs are fractured and you don't have a collapsed lung." May diagnosed. She gingerly touched his side and while he recoiled from the pain she didn't feel any bones out of place or anything extremely serious. "Aside from an X-ray, as best I can tell you have a lot of bruised ribs. Maybe a minor fracture I can pick up."
"Right, patch me up as best you can. I've got to get back out there." Will told her.
"Forget it." May told him, taking out some bandages and gauze along with a gel. "With this amount of bruising, you'll be lucky to crawl up the side of a building and your adrenaline is wearing off which means all of this finally getting to you. You need at least a few hours of rest before you can even think of moving again. And if you disagree then god help me I will have one of them help me pin you down here."
Everyone looked at May and were impressed she was able to bring down her son like that. She was a tough mom. "Doctor's orders. Got it." He replied as May applied the soothing gel which would help with the bruising before patching up his cuts on his side and then wrapped him in some gauze and bandages before she tended to his face. Her help was welcome and hopefully it would be enough for the insane night they had coming.
Line Break xxxxx
A few hours after getting checked out at the hospital, the Mayor returned to City hall with one of the city Aldermen. The other two went home with police escorts and protection. City Hall had an entire army of cops so it was safe now and she was dealing with the firestorm that was Brick. She was safe and sound but Brick was still out there and she wanted him found. She got everyone of importance in her office which included Captain Lance who was currently in the corner having a phone call with May.
"How's he doing?" He wondered.
"Bruised and in pain but he'll live. I gave him a little sedative and some morphine for the pain. He went to sleep the second he laid down. I'm not fully aware of the extent of his healing factor but he said that he heals faster than normal so hopefully it gets easier for him." May answered.
"The kid was brave tonight. He got the Mayor and everyone out of there alive and saved my guys. They'd all be dead if it wasn't for him. Tell him thanks from me when he wakes up."
"I will but he wasn't the only one. I was surprised to see your daughter wearing all black leather. Don't worry, I won't say a word but she did help tonight. You should be proud of her." May told him.
"Proud is not really what I'm feeling tonight but Will did keep his promise and kept her safe. We're still trying to find Brick but given how he's got three guys in battle suits working for him then we need Will to help us on this." Lance stated.
"Well, you're gonna have to wait at least a few more hours so he can heal up. I did overhear from some of the…Team Arrow people that they hit one of Brick's guys with a tracker. It could give you something to find him." May suggested.
"I'll take what I can get and I have a feeling I know who you're talking about." Lance replied when one of the Mayor's assistants told her that Danny Brickwell was actually calling for her. "I've got to go. I'll call you later."
"Be careful, Quentin."
"I will, May." Lance hung up and everyone gathered around the Mayor as she answered the call.
"Mr. Brickwell."
"How was your evening, Madame Mayor? Did you enjoy running away with your life? I bet it felt thrilling, didn't it?"
"You have sixty seconds before I hang up this line. Give yourself up, Mr. Brickwell before we come after you. You have no leverage." The Mayor stated.
"Did you really think you and those Aldermen were all I have planned? What about your District Attorney? City Manager? Chief of Police? I know where they all live…along with their families. And unless you want to see their families all strung up on the six o'clock news then you'll parley with me. In person, Brockton Point, one hour."
"I don't negotiate with terrorists and I certainly don't do it in person." Mayor Castle replied.
"Unless you want to go to a city wide funeral, you'll be there. And unless you weren't watching the news your boys were all but useless against mine. I've got the manpower and they were the ones who handled Spider-man. You've got nothing, Madam Mayor. I will be there at Broxton Point and if you're not then things are only going to get worse for you." Brick warned her before he hung up.
"You're not seriously thinking of going there, are you? Especially after what happened this morning?" Captain Lance asked her.
"I can't afford to take his threat, lightly. We don't have enough police to guard everyone and I'm not about to let this turn into another hostage situation. Send what officers you have to the homes of everyone in this building and whoever remains is coming with us to Brockton point. If anything, just to see him get arrested." Mayor Castle said. Lance was not thrilled at all with this idea but she made her decision.
Laurel arrived in the Mayor's office after that and Lance walked over to make sure she was ok. "You all right?"
"I'm fine. Just some small bruises but I'm fine." Laurel assured him.
"How bad is Will?" Lance asked her.
"He's under right now but he was still joking as I was leaving so I think good. What just happened?" Laurel wondered.
"Brick just called and wants to parley with the Mayor. He threatened the families of everyone in City hall if they don't meet in person." Lance explained. "Given what happened and who Shocker has with him, the Mayor's not taking any chances. I'll keep things handled here. Head back to Will and check up on him. I'll call if you something comes up."
"Ok." Laurel turned to leave but Lance stopped her and hugged her close. Laurel hugged him back as Lance kissed her on the head.
"I want to keep you locked up so badly right now but it's an all hands on deck situation so…be careful." Lance told her.
"I will." Laurel kissed him on the cheek before slipping a smartphone into his hand. "We managed to hit one of the Enforcers with the tracker. If Brick is smart he'll have him there at the meeting as a show of force. You can track him when he leaves. Curtesy of Spider-man and Team Arrow."
"The kid's always doing something to amaze me. Thanks." Lance kissed her one last time before she left for the bunker.
An hour later, the Mayor, Captain Lance, and Ray Palmer had gathered at Brocton point with an army of Police. True to his word, a black Porsche SUV and truck drove into the area. Brick got out of the SUV first.
"He sure is confident. Meeting out here in the open where any police sniper could take him out." The Mayor pointed out only for Shocker, Ricochet, and Ox to get out of the truck along with some of Brick's men with the same high-tech rifles the SCPD recovered at the scene in the alleyway.
"Yeah, well he's got them to even up the odds and our bullets don't do anything against them. Stalemate." Lance reminded her.
"Madame Mayor. All this for me? I'm impressed." Brick smirked when he saw Ray. "What are you doing here, Palmer? Just want to make yourself look important? Good luck with that? Star City. Seems more like Brick City to me."
"Night is young." Ray remarked.
"Tough talk. Too bad all you got is money to back it up but you can't fix this with money, Palmer." Brick told him.
"I don't know. I got a lot of money."
"All right, say what you came here to say." The Mayor told him.
"Ok. I've got the locations and home addressed of every single city employee who works for you along with their families. I've got the high-tech weapons and three men who made Spider-man look like a rank amateur. Matter of fact, I think they're still picking parts of him off the car Shocker blasted into him." Brick remarked and Shocker chuckled in delightful glee. "If you want to prevent bloodshed and funerals, it's simple. Get out of the Glades. The city servicemen, especially the police—evacuate."
"You're out of your mind!" Lance stated.
"And you've got until midnight tomorrow. If I even see a hint of a blue, your city yes-men they will be buried." Brick warned them.
"We won't abandon an entire district."
"They did in LA in '92, didn't they? Besides, you don't want every news station in the country showing graphic footage of my boys taking out your men, do you? Their families? Spider-man was your last bet and he couldn't stop me so none of you can. You have 23 hours, 59 minutes. I suggest you move your sweet ass!" Brick shouted as he got back into his car. Some of the officers moved forward, wanting nothing more than to throttle him but Ox took a few steps forward and Shocker raised his gauntlets.
"That'd be a poor life choice, boys." Shocker motioned them to back up.
"Stand down." Lance told them and they did.
Shocker, Ox, and Ricochet got into the truck and they left along with Brick. Lance watched the smug bastard but when he was out of sight he took out his phone and called Yuri. "Watanabe, how's the tracking signal?"
"Clean and clear." Yuri replied, sitting in her personal car, and watching the signal on the phone. She saw it coming up and on que Brick and the truck holding Shocker and the others passed which meant the signal was indeed tracking Ox. "The signal's set on Ox. I've got them."
"All right, follow them a safe distance back. Do not give away your cover. Find out where he's going then report back. Do not engage at all." Lance ordered.
"Roger that." Yuri replied, starting her car, and following Brick and the others from a very safe distance. When they turned down a street, she would just turn onto the street they left. With a clean tracking signal, she was able to stay back further and avoid being seen but could speed up and catch them if the signal was cut out or something.
She followed them a good three miles through the city to the Glades, no surprise there, when the tracking signal stopped. She parked her car on a street three blocks away and continued on foot, grabbing a pair of binoculars, a shotgun and moved through the alleyways just to be safe. She got close enough to see where they stopped and it was an old textile mile that was abandoned years ago and was left to just rot and occupy land in the Glades. The place was massive and judging by the men she saw walking around carrying guns and how the tracker stopped there, this was where Brick was holed. She got a better look with her binoculars and knew that taking this place with the SCPD alone would be difficult even without Shocker, Ox, and Ricochet. With those three on Brick's side, it would be a massacre if they went in. They needed a plan and she was trying to think of one as she called Lance.
"Hey, Captain. I found out where Brick is holed up but we've got our work cut out for us. We're gonna need Will." She told him.
At the Bunker…
The rest of Team Arrow were lounging about and resting while Will was laid out on a table. His entire chest and torso covered in gauze and bandages with soothing gel for the pain and bruising while all his cuts and scratches were cleaned up so they didn't get infected. He was fast asleep on the table from exhaustion and the sedative May gave him. Dig gave May an IV drip which she wasn't expecting but it gave him some much needed fluids and she was able to add some morphine for the pain.
Everyone kept a close eye on Will as Dig looked over at May who was on the phone. "Don't worry, Aria. He's fine. Just resting. I'm here to look after him and make sure he heals."
"Ok, good. Emily, Spencer, and I are glad to hear that." She replied.
"You have nothing to worry about. You girls get some rest. I'll have Will call you when he's better." May hung up and turned to see Dig walk over.
"Everything ok?" He wondered.
"Yes, and don't worry your secret Arrow Cave is still a secret. I was just letting his friends know he's ok." May assured him.
"Thank you but you are Will's mother. If he vouches for you then it's enough for the rest of us." Dig told her.
"Wow, you and he must be a lot closer than I thought." May said as Dig looked at Will.
"Actually, we're not that close compared to Laurel or Felicity…but in the few times I've gotten to talk to him I could tell he's a good kid." Dig stated.
"He's the best kid and it's sometimes the best kid that makes me worry every night he goes out there." May admitted.
"So, you knew about him being Spider-man all this time?" Dig asked and she nodded.
"The night of the siege I saw him lift up the rubble of a collapsed house and then he fought against one of those masked men. At the end of that night, he said he wanted to use his powers for good and despite everything I could say…he became Spider-man." May explained.
"And you just let him?" Felicity asked. She and the others had sort of walked over to join the conversation.
"It's not like I can stop him. It breaks my heart every time I watch the news about Spider-man. I keep waiting for the day when that they find his body in an alley or he died in an explosion…" May paused a bit and cleared her throat to hold back the tears coming but she toughed through it. "It was the same thing with his father. Richard always felt that helping other people was the biggest calling in life. When he died it was hard on both of us and when Will decided to become Spider-man…there was nothing I wanted more than to go back in time and stop him from going on that trip to Central City."
"We know how that feels." Laurel told her.
"When the day comes he no longer has to go out their to protect the city, I'll be the happiest I've ever been in my life. But I would be lying to myself if I didn't say I was proud of what he was doing. The people he doesn't know but saves and they get to live their lives. Anyone else could have used these kinds of powers for the wrong reason but he chose to help people. And not for fame or riches but because there are people in this city who need help, now more than ever and he can do it. This city is his home and he will protect it." May told them. Unbeknownst to them, Will's hand moved slightly indicating he was awake and heard what she was saying. "Being a mother to a hero is the hardest thing there is…but I've raised him right. Do any of you have children?"
"A baby girl. Sara." Dig answered.
"Well, Mr. Diggle. The most important thing I can tell you—never criticize, always encourage. You just want them to be passionate. Find something they care about and care deeply. That and the golden rule. Treat others as you'd like to be treated…with the minor exception of when he's out there stopping the bad guys. I'm sure Will wouldn't like to get punched in the face." May told him. "Richard and I kept that philosophy with Will since day one and he's done amazing things because of it."
"That's it?" He asked and she nodded.
"Yeah, basically."
"What about all the other stuff? Sleeping, eating, electrical outlets, diapers, stairs, and child locks?" Dig asked causing everyone to laugh a bit.
"That stuff takes care of itself." May assured him.
"Really?" He wondered.
"No, but you'll figure it out." She joked.
"Now you know where I get my sense of humor." They turned around to see Will was awake. "It definitely wasn't my dad."
They walked over to check on him and he smiled back. "How are you feeling?" May asked.
"Sore…but better than before. Guess I just needed a nap." He answered, slowly moving his body so he could sit up. Dig and Roy helped him and he eventually managed to sit up straight on the table. He cracked his neck and then stretched his arms and back which made several bone cracking sounds which was shiver inducing but rather therapeutic for Will. "Oh, that feels better."
"You back to a hundred percent?" Roy wondered.
"Let's go with a strong 69.5%." He answered. "What's the situation in the city?"
"I talked to my father. He said the Mayor's gonna gave and cede control of the Glades to Brick." Laurel told him. "He's threatening every single city employee and if they don't pull out of the Glades then he's gonna start killing them."
"Oh my god." May was speechless.
"We can't let that happen." Will stated.
"We did get lucky on the tracker Dig hit Ox with. Gave us where Brick's holed up but the entire place is a fortress." Roy said and Felicity brought up satellite images to further illustrate the point. It was a massive factory they turned into a base with at least a hundred and fifty men there working for Brick along with Shocker, Ox, and Ricochet.
"The SCPD can't launch an assault there. With Shocker and the others, it'd be a massacre and Brick could escape." Dig said and Will agreed.
"Then we need to get him there before he flees like a rat." He told them. "But this will only work if we're in this together."
"Will, it's an army in there plus the Enforcers. Us might not be enough even if Oliver was here." Roy told him. "We can't do this without him."
"If you all were doing this just for Oliver then you were doing this for the wrong reasons." Will said, getting off the table on to his feet and taking the IV line out of his arm. "Oliver's mission didn't die with him because it lives on through us. For all we know, he might actually be dead and it just us but this is our home. There are people in this city that need us to stop Brick from whatever he's got planned. And I for one am not about to give up my home without a fight, especially from a meathead calling himself Brick. When all of you decided to help Oliver, you did it because you believed that he was trying to help the city for the people who call it home. We have skills and tech and powers that everyone else doesn't and it's up to us to use them for the right reasons."
"With great power comes great responsibility." May stated.
"I like it." Laurel commented.
"I'm ready to do this solo but I like the idea of working with a team. Star City needs us all…so, are you in?" He asked them all.
Dig, Roy, Laurel, and Felicity looked at one another and they all smiled and nodded. "Ok, Spider-man…what's the plan?" Dig asked him, letting him take the lead.
"The convoy worked for Brick because he was prepared for us. We're prepared for him now and with a bird's eye view of the place, I think we can turn the tide." He suggested. "Felicity, can you get me a line to the Mayor's office?"
"What are you gonna do?" Felicity asked.
"Give us some time and maybe some backup." He answered.
At the Mayor's office…
Captain Lance was having an argument with Mayor Castle over her decision to concede pulling out the SCPD from the Glades. "It's a bad idea." He reminded her.
"So, you've said—repeatedly but it's my decision. So do as I tell you and give the order." Mayor Castle ordered.
"You give it. You want to pull my men out of the Glades, fine, that's your funeral. But I don't want any part of it." Lance told her when the Mayor's assistant walked in.
"What is it?" Mayor Castle asked.
"Sorry, Mayor Castle but you have a call. It's Spider-man." He told her.
"What?" Lance was not expecting to hear that.
"He says he's Spider-man and he wants to talk to you." The assistant said.
"It's probably just a prank call." The Mayor told him when Lance's phone rang and he answered.
"Yeah." He answered and listened before he looked at the Mayor. "It's Spider-man. He wants to talk to you?"
That got her notice so she motioned him to put her phone on the desk and on speaker. "This is Mayor Castle, who is this?"
"Good evening, Mayor Castle. Or is it midnight, I can't say? You're probably wondering if I am who I say I am and indeed, this is your friendly Spectacular Spider-man. Sorry, I couldn't get your autograph but I'm glad you're all right and I needed to talk with you. I've heard through the web vine of the city about what Brick wants. The Glades." Spider-man said and Mayor Castle didn't expect him to know that. How could he know that?
"I don't have any idea what you're talking about." She told him.
"I'm here to help, Mayor Castle. You can't give Brick what he wants and pull out of the Glades. If you do, things will only get worse. I know where he and his army are holed up now. Let me take him down."
"If you are who you say are, what makes you think you can win? You didn't last time." The Mayor pointed out.
"Last time I was on the defensive. This time I won't be. Just hold off on pulling out everyone from the Glades. Give me an hour and I will have Brick trussed up for you to parade on the news." Spider-man promised. "Just give me an hour."
Mayor Castle thought over the idea and Captain Lance was pushing her to accept. "Ok…you have one hour and then I'm pulling everyone out of the Glades." She answered and Lance let out a sigh of relief. "But Spider-man…if this is really you…what happens if you don't get Brick and make things worse?"
"If that happens, I'll turn myself in." He promised before hanging up.
Back at the bunker…
Will put his phone down as May and Felicity looked at him. "You'll turn yourself in?" May asked and he just shrugged.
"Seemed like the thing to say in the moment to get her to believe me. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that." He replied, adjusting his suit, and restocking up on gear before putting some extra web gadgets in a bag. Dig, Roy, and Laurel finished getting geared up. "Ready?"
"On your lead, Spider-man." Laurel told him and Will put on his mask. Despite the battle damage it sustained, Spider-man was about to make a statement tonight.
Line Break xxxxx
On the rooftop of a building two blocks away from the warehouse that Brick was using as his base, Spider-man was perched up on top. He was using his telescopic vision and his HUD to scan the warehouse and the surrounding lot which was fed back to Felicity at the Bunker so she and May could see everything it picked up. That along with satellite images gave them a good, detailed analysis of the stronghold along with the placement of guards and lookouts.
"How are we looking Felicity?" He radioed in.
"I've got clear images and an expert scan of the area. I'll be able to let you know if something comes up."
"All right, Dig. You in position?" Spider-man asked.
Dig was on the rooftop of a building across the street on the southside which was the other main entrance into the warehouse lot. He was covering the back exit with a sniper rifle in case any of them tried to leave. "I'm in position."
"Arsenal, Canary?"
Arsenal and Canary were waiting on Arsenal's bike for the signal to go in. "In position."
"All right. We take out the scouts and guards outside first before we move in." Spider-man fired two web lines on the roof and began backing up, creating tension in the webbing.
"What exactly is Will's plan to get there from two blocks away?" May wondered.
"He's gonna slingshot himself." Felicity answered.
"What?"
When he had enough tension in the webbing, he let go and was literally flung through the air like a bullet. He activated his wingsuit webs and glided through the air, over a building and into the warehouse lot where he quickly web zipped to the roof of the warehouse. A sniper was stationed up on the roof, keeping watch for anything but didn't see Spider-man as his suit's dark color blended in with the night sky. Too bad for him and he got a flying kick to the face and was knocked unconscious, likely with a broken jaw and serious concussion. Spider-man rolled from the impact and stopped in his spider crouch.
"I'm in."
"Wow, that worked." May commented.
"I see you." Dig said, seeing Spider-man through his sniper scope. He took a quick looked around the lot of the warehouse and noticed another sniper in the old construction crane seat, overlooking the lot. "Take out the sniper in the crane post, first."
"I see him." He web zipped up to the top of the crane and quietly crawled down. When he was close enough, he web pulled him up and wrapped him in webbing like a cocoon. "All right, now who's next?"
"Well, you've got over twenty armed bad guys in the lot so take your pick but I'd advise taking out the one with the high-tech weapons first." Felicity suggested and Will's HUD zoomed in on an thug using the same kind of high-tech rifle Brick's men used in the alleyway.
"I've never seen those kinds of guns before. Must be special." Dig said and Felicity did a little research.
"I'm in SCPD SCU's files and neither have they. They're high-caliber thermite rifles. They fire a charged plastoid round that is superheated when it leaves the gun with the same temperature as actual thermite. That's 2,000 degrees Celsius." Felicity told them.
"Where did Brick get his hands on those kinds of weapons?" Laurel wondered as Spider-man web zipped back to the warehouse and snagged a thug who went off to take a smoke. He pulled him into the air and kicked in the head before webbing his body to the side of the building.
"My guess is the same place Ox and Ricochet got their suits. And seeing the similarity in design layout, I'd have to wager a guess at Smythe Technologies." He told them, carefully laying down some web trip mines on the ground and by the doors as part of the plan.
"I thought that company went bankrupt months ago?" May pointed out and Felicity did some quick hacking to find out.
"Will's right. I hacked into what's left of the Smythe Technology servers and the rifles are their design." Felicity told them before bringing up an employee file on the designer. "Developed by one Dr. Phineas Mason, former head research on advance weapons. Guess he decided to get into the black market arms trade."
"Looks like we got a new issue to deal with." Roy said as Spider-man webbed up a few more of the isolated thugs leaving about ten who were scattered around in groups of two or three.
"An issue for another day. Let's deal with Brick first." Spider-man looked around and figured that with everyone bunched together it would make the chance of them seeing him take out the others much higher. He had to take them out quickly and in rapid succession if their plan was still going to work. "I'm almost done cleaning up the courtyard. Time to take out the stragglers."
He web zip towards two thugs near a light pole and kicked them both in the chest before attaching a web bomb to one of their belts before he backflipped away. The web bomb went off and wrapped them in a cocoon. During his backflip he fired twin globs of impact webbing and the two thugs with assault rifles and pinned them to a car. He rolled to the side and shot a glob of webing in the face of the guy with a shotgun before web zipping forward and kicking him in the face. He then threw a web mine at the last guy and it stuck to his chest before the mine activated and pulled him into a light pole and wrapped him up tight. There was one guy who was hiding behind some crates and he quickly pulled out his radio to call in backup only for Dig to take him out with a shot from his sniper.
"Nice shot, Dig." Spider-man remarked and gave him a mock salute he saw through his scope. "Ok, clean up of the courtyard is complete. Now to lay down some extra traps."
He opened up the bag he had with him and placed some web mines around the courtyard and by the entrances of the warehouse. Once he placed enough, he web zipped back to the roof and opened up a hatch to drop it. "Ok, time for phase two." He jumped down into the warehouse while Arsenal started his bike and headed to the warehouse.
Spider-man dropped down onto the ceiling rafters which gave him a good look at the warehouse for Brick's operation. There were easily at least a hundred guys walking around and his HUD scanned as many faces as it could. Most of them were the people Brick managed to free from jail due to his evidence robbery. He saw a guy walk up the two flights of stairs to walk on the catwalk and take a smoke so web pulled him up into the air and then slammed his head into the rafter before wrapping him up. He managed to web and string up four more of Brick's men on the rafters and no one noticed anything yet as his HUD continued to scan the area. It found Shocker, Ox, Ricochet, and Brick hiding in a room in the basement, most likely Brick's office and the four were talking about things but they didn't know he was here yet.
He saw one guy walk by so he dropped down and grabbed him from behind before jumping back up into the rafters. A few punches later and he was knocked out cold and stuck to the ceiling. His HUD alerted him to the exits along with men who were heavily armed which is when he saw the stockpile room of all the thermite guns. "Felicity, can you bring up schematics for the thermite guns?"
"Sure, what am I looking for?" She wondered.
"Any kind of technical glitch or failsafe I can take advantage of and take them out of the equation." He replied and she did a quick search for any kind of glitches or manufacturer errors that would be able to help him. She wasn't an engineer so she wasn't sure what she was looking for but did find technical notes and a warning for the weapons.
"Here's something. The wiring and internal design of these rifles is state of the art. They use special magnetic coilers to superheat the plastoid bullets into thermite and it's the control chips that keep the magnetic coilers from going into overload. If that happens then there's the chance that the coilers could superheat the plastoid and cause the gun to burst into flames like a thermite grenade." She told him.
"Fireworks. Sounds like something to even the odds. Arsenal, Canary get ready. It's about to get loud." He told them.
"We're in position." Arsenal replied, taking position up on the crane while the Canary was up on the roof, using a Billy club instead of the bo staff.
Spider-man web crawled on the ceiling until he was above the armory where there were two guards on watch. He dropped to the ground and slowly walked up behind them before he tapped them both on the shoulder.
"Hi there…" He whispered before punching both in the face and then web pulling their faces to the ground which knocked them out.
"What was that?" He heard someone say so he had to act now. He picked up a few rifles and ripped the side off of one to see the complex circuitry Felicity was talking about.
"It's a shame. Such good tech in the hands of bad people. Oh well, not for much longer." He concentrated and his hands began to spark with orange bio-electricity before he used his venom shock to supercharge the rifle. The circuitry began to overload and spark and given the plastoid rounds in the magazine, it would explode so he threw it down below where some of Brick's men saw the gun land.
"What the hell?"
Before any of them could do anything, it exploded and caught on fire, burning a hole in the ground. He supercharged another rifle and tossed it up back onto the pile before web zipping up to the ceiling and soon enough the large stockpile of thermite guns turned into a giant ball of fire.
"Get the hell out of here!" Many of Brick's men began to scramble for the exit and they rushed out of the warehouse into the courtyard. The first couple that ran out were snagged by a web trip mine and pulled to the ground. The next few after that passed another web mine and were stuck in place before more rushed out. Several ran to the gates where a web grenade exploded, coating the entire gate in webbing so it couldn't be budged and ensnaring several of them. Thirty or so of Brick's men had rushed out of the warehouse and about 12 of them were now captured or webbed up.
The Canary used her sonic device, causing the windows of the warehouse to explode and all the men to drop to their knees as they covered their ears from the sound. Arsenal fired two explosive arrows at the ground, knocking several of Brick's men out and knocked the rest back before the Canary threw down some web bombs and captured some more. A few more men rushed out of the warehouse where Arsenal and the Canary would take care of them. Arsenal fired arrow after arrow, hitting more of Brick's men while Dig took some out with sniper shots. Laurel jumped down from the warehouse and hit one goon in the stomach with her baton. He was still reeling from the sonic device which allowed her to then hit him across the face. She kicked another guy to the ground and hit him across the face with her baton when she saw Brick's men get up and used the sonic device again, causing them to cover their ears in pain. Dig shot a few more before he had to reload and Arsenal ziplined down where he pulled out his escrima sticks and began beating down Brick's men one by one. The Canary did as well, and while she wasn't as skill as Arsenal her sonic device managed to discombobulate them enough to even the odds.
Arsenal kneed one in the face and threw him through a crate as the Canary then hit him in the leg and the back of the head. Arsenal disarmed another goon and grappled him to the ground before breaking his wrist and stomped on his chest when they saw one of Brick's men aim his gun at them. Luckily he was shot in the knee and they turned to see it was Yuri who had arrived.
"Spider-man told me he had a plan to handle Brick and his army but I wasn't about to sit out this fight, mask or not." She told them before unfolding a police baton.
Arsenal took out his bow and fired another arrow, hitting a guy in the arm as he reached for a gun and Yuri hit him in the back of the left leg before she used her pistol and hit him across the face. She threw him to the ground and then punched another guy in the stomach before whacking him in the back of the head with her baton.
"Wow, she's good." Felicity commented and May agreed.
Arsenal, Canary, Dig and now Detective Watanabe were handling Brick's men who ran out of the warehouse. Inside said warehouse, the rest of Brick's men rushed to the exit when the door was closed shut and Spider-man landed in front of them.
"What's the matter guys? Your place is literally on fire. Think of how good this will be for your resale value." He quipped before using some splitter web to snag two goons and pulled them into him where he dropped kick both across the room. Some of Brick's men pulled out their guns and fired at him but he zipped into the air and fired web bullets which hit them all over before he web pulled a nearby table and hurled it at them. They were sent crashing into one another and one guy was knocked into a wall. He landed on the ground and shot some webbing at a scaffold tower before pulling it down. It fell down and landed on some of Brick's men before he web threw a garbage can and hit another guy in the head. He uppercut one guy into the air and then jumped where he landed some more punches and kicks before web throwing him to the ground. He flipped over another of Brick's men and fired some webbing at the exit to keep them from heading outside and overwhelming Arsenal and Canary.
He then jumped back to avoid a crowbar and webbed the guy in the face before landing a roundhouse kick, a hook kick, and then an left straight that knocked him out. The crowbar hit the ground but he webbed it and threw it at another guy, hitting him in the nose and then shoulder tackled him in the gut and threw him up into the air before web slamming him to the ground. The burning mound of thermite rifles actually melted through the second floor and was now burning a hole on the ground floor. It caused Brick's men to panic which made them easy pickings for Spider-man as he was able to take them down quicker since they were more focused on trying to escape. He backflipped over a guy who tried to hit him in the back with a 2x4 and then web threw him into another guy before using some impact webbing to tie them up. He knocked one guy around the warehouse with a swing kick and then web zipped to another guy where he knocked him out with a spinning hook kick. He punched another guy in the face with a straight right, then spun around and hit him with a right cross before jumping into a spinning roundhouse kick that knocked him through the air. He spun through the air to avoid pistol rounds and took out another guy with a hurricanrana throw into a wall before he threw a web grenade capture two men.
"You guys look mad that I used up all my good quips on the other guys. Then again, I don't mind repeating myself." Spider-man said as he backflip kicked another guy into the air and finished him off with a 720 spinning hook kick.
Most if not all of Brick's men in the warehouse were taken out which is when Brick, Ox, Ricochet, and Shocker came up from the basement to see what was going on. Their men were taken out and webbed and there was a giant thermite fireball burning a hole in the floor.
"What the hell is going on here?!" Brick shouted when he saw Spider-man land on a catwalk railing. "YOU!"
"Reinforcements. Great, I was getting sick of these other guys." Spider-man quipped, webbing the scaffold behind them, and pulled so it crashed down on Brick and the Enforcers. Ox quickly began to lift the scaffold off him as Ricochet jumped through and leapt after Spider-man. He landed on the second railing and engaged him in hand-to-hand combat but even with the suit, he couldn't match spider-sense. Spider-man ducked and dodged before backflipping off the catwalk and falling to the ground. Ricochet jumped after him but it was a trap as Spider-man fired some webbing and slingshot himself back into the air, kicking Ricochet in the gut as he did so. He then grabbed him by the shoulder and hurled him to the ground before landing on the ceiling rafters as Ox and Shocker got free.
"Get out of here, Boss. We'll squash the bug." Shocker said as he fired energy blasts at Spider-man who zipped around to avoid them.
"Squash the bug. Squash the bug. Come on, guys. At least say something intelligent so we can make it interesting." He quipped as he landed on the catwalk. His spider-sense went off, detecting Ricochet heading towards him but he also Ox throw a crate so he quickly web pulled himself into the air. Ricochet missed Spider-man but ended up getting hit by the crate and knocked to the ground. "Oh, that looked like it hurt."
He web zipped towards Ox and slid through his legs before climbing onto his back. Ox moved about and struggled to get him off when Spider-man flipped onto his head and kicked off, pushing him into Shocker. Ricochet saw Spider-man so he jumped and bounced toward him just as Ox and Shocker managed to get up. Ricochet headed towards Spider-man who did a stylish ducking spin so Ricochet sailed over him and he ended up crashing into Shocker.
"Sorry Ricochet but even an amateur scientist knows that what goes in motion must stay in motion. Until said motion hits its friends." Spider-man joked. Ox charged at Spider-man and tried to hit him but missed. Ox brought his arms down in a hammer slam but missed and punched the ground, allowing Spider-man to run up his arm and kick him across the face. He landed on his shoulders and put a web mine on his back as Ricochet bounced off the ground and then the catwalk towards him. Ox reached up to grab him so he backflipped off and punched Ox in the face before slipping through his legs and kicking him in the groan. Ox squealed in pain and fell on his knees which ended up putting the web mine on his back in clear sight of Ricochet heading towards him.
The web mine went off and hit Ricochet, pulling him onto Ox's back so he was not stuck face first in a position that Ox couldn't reach. "What the—Get off!" Ox struggled to reach him but his suit's armor restricted his arms so he couldn't reach all the way back.
"Some friends take piggybacking off your success just too far." Spider-man quipped as he punched Ox in the face and then stomach before webbing him in the face to disorientate him.
"OX, move!" Shocker tried to line up a shot but couldn't.
"Don't worry, Shocker! Here I come!" Spider-man jumped over Ox, landing an uppercut to his face before he flipped over and kicked off Ricochet's stomach but snagging some of the metal discs on his arm. He rolled forward on the ground and moved into flips and spins to avoid Shocker's blasts. He jumped into a butterfly twist and threw one of Ricochet's disks at Shocker's right gauntlet. The disk sliced into the gauntlet and caused it to short circuit.
"What in tarnation?!" Shocker fired a blast from his other gauntlet but missed as Spider-man leapt into the air and web zipped to him, landing a kick to the face that knocked him to the ground.
"But we can't forget the others!" Spider-man fired two web lines at Ox and pulled. Ox was pulled backwards onto his back which meant he landed on Ricochet which must have hurt a lot. He front flipped into the air and kicked Ox in the stomach before jumping off like a trampoline and webbing his legs. He leapt over the catwalk with the webbing and when he landed, he pulled hard and hoisted Ox and Ricochet upside down like a Pinata. To finish it off, he fired two lines of webbing and began backing up like a slingshot. When he had the maximum amount of tension he smiled. "I'm not gonna lie to you, Ox. This one is gonna hurt!"
He let go and slingshot himself at Ox, landing a powerful double flying kick to his chest and sent him and Ricochet flying across the room. Shocker looked up and saw Ox and Ricochet fly through the air and they were going to land on him. "I hate that bug."
[Crash] Spider-man winced in pain as that couldn't have been pretty. "That sounded like it hurt."
He walked over to the Enforcers and they were all knocked out. Ox from the intense gut kick, Shocker from having Ox and Ricochet land on him, and Ricochet from being in the middle of it all. Even though they were knocked out, he wanted to be careful so he ripped Shocker's gauntlets off and his HUD actually scanned them for a detail analysis before he broke apart Ox's suit and then webbed them up with two full web shooter cartridges. When it was done the three were just a giant ball of webbing.
"Ok, the pawns have been taken care of. Time for the king." Spider-man stated as he web zipped away.
Despite the toughness and hardened criminal that Brick was, he was either smart enough or cowardly enough to know when to run. He ran out of the warehouse through a back window can climbed over the fence where he got into a car. He was currently driving down the street, thinking he was in the clear when he heard a thud on the roof and then Spider-man appeared on the hood.
"Sorry, Brickhead but your free ride is over!" He flipped back onto the roof to avoid being shot by Brick's pistol before he yanked off the driver door and web pulled the crime boss out of the speeding car. Brick tumbled on the ground as Spider-man fired several webs at car's wheels causing to skid to a stop.
Brick got back to his feet as Spider-man swung down and kicked him in the gut and knocked him into a fire hydrant but Brick just got him. "Is that all you got, hero?!" Brick shouted, shooting at Spider-man just ducked and dodged all the shots before he yanked his pistol out of his hand and hurled it into his face. "Ah, you bastard!"
Spider-man then landed a flying punch to his face, an spinning elbow to his gut, a rising knee to the chin and then a spin kick to the side of his head. Brick staggered back so Spider-man web pulled himself at Brick but slid through his legs and then pushed himself into the air. He fired a web line at the ground and pulled himself down, landing a powerful right cross to Brick's face. He then backflipped away and took a few deep breaths as the events of the entire day were starting to get to him. He thought that Brick would go down but he got back up. Some cuts and blood on his face but he wasn't finished. "Is that all you got?"
Brick charged and tackled Spider-man into the car where he punched him in the side and then across the face. He would have punched him again but got kicked back by Spider-man who then drop kicked him in the face. Brick threw out a wild haymaker only for Spider-man to jump and vault over him. He then fired a web behind him and web zipped back, landing a flying kick to the side of Brick's head.
Brick hit the ground hard but still managed to get back up. "Seriously, dude? Just give up. It's over." Spider-man told him. "There's being stubborn and then there's being stupid."
"I've dealt with my fair share of people on these streets and killed plenty. I'm not getting done in by a freak in a Halloween Costume!" Brick charged in a flurry of strikes that never landed as Spider-man dodged them all.
"Well, you shouldn't have messed with freaks home!" He sidestepped a right cross and landed a bicycle kick to the back of Brick's head which staggered him. Brick was tough so he needed to finish this and make it hurt. He web pulled Brick by the face and landed a spinning hook kick before charging his fist so it glowed orange and landed a venom punch uppercut that sent Brick flying onto his car's windshield.
Spider-man walked over and saw Brick's face was bleeding and cut up but he was knocked unconscious so he could breathe a sigh of relief. "Guys…I got Brick. It's over." He radioed in.
"Yes!" Felicity and May cheered and hugged each other back in the bunker.
"Nicely done, Spider-man." Dig told him, seeing that Arsenal, Canary, and Detective Watanabe finished up the rest of Brick's men.
"You did it." Laurel told him
"We did it. It was a team effort…but thanks." He replied, looking at Brick and he couldn't stop himself from smiling. "Everyone's gonna know you got your ass handed to you by me, because I'm gonna show them."
He grabbed Brick by the leg and proceeded to drag him back to the warehouse. Captain Lance and the Mayor were in her office, looking at the clock tick down. Spider-man's timeframe was nearly up and they hadn't heard anything. He failed so it was time to pull out of the Glades. Before she could speak, Lance's phone rang with a call from Yuri so he answered.
"Yuri, what is it?" He asked and as she was speaking, he couldn't smile any more then he already was.
"Well, what happened?" Mayor Castle asked him.
"He did it. Spider-man took down Brick, Shocker, and his men. It's over." Lance told him and the Mayor breathed a sigh of relief.
"Get down there with everyone and take that man into custody." Mayor Castle ordered and Lance nodded.
"But I do think you should come, Madam Mayor. She said there's something that you need to see." Lance told her and she was confused but decided to come. If anything, just to see Danny Brickwell's face when they put him in the back of a squad car.
Captain Lance and the Mayor arrived at the scene in the Glades where there was an army of police on the scene along with news vans, cameras, reporters, and civilian bystanders. There was a little fire at the warehouse which was being tended to by the Fire Department but Lance and the Mayor saw all of Brick's men tied up or cuffed on the side of the street with SCPD officers watching over them. Some were awake and had permanent angry looks on their face but most were still unconscious. Shocker was tied up and his gauntlets were being bagged while Ox was being held at gunpoint so some CSU officers could remove Ricochet from his back. The Enforcers were taken care of.
Detective Watanabe was in charge and ordering officers, CSU, and paramedics on their tasks when Captain Lance and the Mayor walked over to her. "Captain. Mayor. We got them all thanks to Spider-man."
"Where's Brick?" Lance asked and she just pointed up.
The spotlights on the various news vans finally turned on so that everyone could see where he was. There was a giant spiderweb set up between two buildings and in the middle of the web was none other than Danny Brickwell. Tied up, beaten, and with a little sign on his chest that read, From your friendly Spectacular Spider-man.
"I told you I'd have him all trussed up for you." They heard and saw Spider-man land on a light pole above him. "He's all yours, Madam Mayor and please throw the book at him."
"Don't worry. He's not getting out of jail anytime soon." The Mayor said and Spider-man nodded.
"Thank you, Spider-man." Captain Lance said to him.
"You don't have to thank me. It's my job." He replied.
"Why? Why are you doing this? Why do you care about us or this? Why are you here?" The Mayor wanted to know and by now his appearance got everyone's attention, including the media. Guess this was as good a time to make a statement and assure the city he was on their side. He went through some quick functions on his mask so that it amplified his voice so they could all hear.
"The Mayor wants to know why I'm doing this. Why would I risk my life to keep people safe and protect this city? And it's a simple answer. This is my home. I was born here. I grew up here my whole life and I have seen this city through its best and its worst. This city made me who I am so I am to protect it from those who would seek to hurt it." He told them as everyone listened and the news cameras made sure to get it all. It was all live and everyone in the city to watch it. Felicity, Laurel, Dig, Roy, and Arsenal at the bunker were watching, Aria, Emily, and Spencer back at SCU were watching and even Thea and Malcolm Merlyn were watching as well. "Tombstone, Brick, and anyone else who seeks to hurt this city and the people in it will have to go through me. And tonight, I am publicly making this promise to all of you: I was given these powers for a reason and that reason is to protect my home! So long as there are people in Star City that need help, Spider-man will be there! You have my word!"
He leapt into the air and fired some web before he swung over the group of people when they erupted into cheers and applause. "SPIDER-MAN!"
One man shouted and soon enough everyone began to chant for him. "SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN! SPIDER-MAN!"
Lance and Yuri smiled as they saw the entire city supported Will. Even the cops were cheering for him. Will himself couldn't smile any more then was at the moment as he swung through the city. "WOOOO!" He web zipped forward and nose dived to the ground before swinging up high with a spin. Spider-man was here and he was here to stay.
Will stayed out in the city for an extra hour to make sure that things in the city were good and they surprisingly were. Defeating Brick and posting his body on the news seemed to have an effect on the criminals. Whether they wanted to stay quiet or were afraid of Spider-man coming after them like he did Brick, the result was quiet.
He returned to his dorm room at SCU and climbed in through the window. He made it a few feet before plopping face first into his bed to get some much deserved rest. Just as he nodded off, his door opened and in walked Aria. She was hoping to catch him before he went to bed but just missed him so she walked over and moved his hair out of his face before giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Get some rest, hero."
The next day…
School started back up for SCU which wasn't particularly great but what are you gonna do? Emily, Aria, and Spencer walked through campus until they arrived at the coffee shop where Maya was waiting for them. Emily rushed over and the two hugged before sharing a kiss. "I missed you." Emily said to Maya and she giggled as she gave her girlfriend a kiss.
"Do you think we should give them some privacy?" Spencer wondered.
"Hey, Spencer. Hey, Aria. It's good to see you two." Maya said to them.
"You too, Maya. Excited for your first day?" Aria wondered and Maya nodded.
"I am. Glad to be back here." Maya looked at Emily who smiled and the two shared a kiss. That's when Maya noticed they were one short. "Where's Will?"
"He's…not feeling good." Aria replied.
"Oh, what's wrong?" Maya wondered.
"He got a bad…" Spencer was figuring out the right excuse. "…cold."
"Oh, and on the first day of classes too? That's awful." Maya said.
"Well, Will's a genius so he can afford to miss one day of classes. Come on, let's get some breakfast." Emily suggested and they went to the dining hall.
At city hall, the Mayor scheduled a special press conference to speak to the people of Star City. She stood up at the podium and with the Police Commissioner, Captain Lance, and Detective Watanabe. "Thank you for coming everyone. Daniel Brickwell's reign of terror over Star City is no more. He and his conspirators have been arrested and are awaiting arraignment. The people of the city can easy now that he is in custody. Today, we're here to honor the brave men and women who worked tirelessly in the pursuit of Mr. Brickwell and on brave SCPD detective in particular. Detective Yuri Watanabe worked in tandem with Captain Quentin Lance on the Brickwell case and for her excellent in the field, Commissioner Nudocerdo and I are proud to award her the promotion to Lieutenant Yuri Watanabe."
The Commissioner walked over and handed her a lieutenants badge and she smiled and shook his hands for the photos before rejoining her spot next to Captain Lance. "Congratulations." He said to her.
"Thanks." She replied.
"There were many other heroes in the fight against the Brickwell organization who will be honored but I would like to take this moment now to speak about one individual who does not wear a badge. Spider-man." Mayor Castle said as she took a moment before continuing. "Star City still maintains a strict policy against the acts of vigilantism…but Spider-man isn't a vigilante. Many have known that before last night but I was not one of them. Here was a man who put his life in harms way to protect those who needed it, even protecting the brave men and women in uniform. At great risk to his own life and against impossible odds, he has been there for the people of this city including myself and three city Aldermen. Which is why today, City Hall and the Mayor's office is formerly recognizing Star City's hero, Spider-man. And I would like to add in my own personal vote of gratitude for saving my life. I wish him a good recovering and so long as he honors his promise…Star City will do it's part to not waste the second chance he has given us."
Captain Lance and Yuri smiled as reporters asked the Mayor questions. "Will's gonna be happy to hear that."
"Have you heard from him since last night?" Yuri wondered.
"No, but I was told he's resting. After what he went through, I think he deserves some rest." Lance pointed out and she agreed.
The Mayor's press conference wasn't the only place where people were talking good about Spider-man. The News was doing it's part as well. "In a remarkable series of events, Danny Brickwell's reign of terror has come to an end. He and the army of criminals he had working for him were taken down by the Star City superhero known as Spider-man. Spider-man has been active in Star City for seven months but last night was his first official statement to the Mayor and the people of this city, promising his protection against the criminal element. Overnight, public opinion has once again surged in favor of Spider-man and his efforts to keep the people of this city safe. Many are wondering if the recent surge in Spider-man activity is due to the fact that Star City's vigilante known as the Arrow has not been seen in a month since December of last year. Despite, the apparent loss of one protector, Star City has another with overwhelming positive support from the police and people. Star Cit is quickly earning the moniker, Home of the Spectacular Spider-man and Spider-man mania is alive and thriving in the city. No word yet on the impact this will have in the city going forward and if Spider-man's public promise will incite a response from the city's criminal element, but one thing is for sure: Star City has Spider-man watching over us now and we all feel a little safer. Where he is now, the people are Star City can rest assure that is watching over us."
That wasn't the truth as Spider-man wasn't actually watching over the city at the moment. Spider-man or Will was still sleeping in his bed with his face still buried in his pillow. He went to sleep last night when he got in last night and it was a deep sleep. Considering what he went through, his sleep was likely not going to be interrupted anytime soon. He needed rest and some time to heal up but Spider-man would be back protecting the city…tomorrow.
Even heroes need to sleep.
End of Chapter 10
That is the end of Chapter 10. Brick's war against Star City was stopped before he could take over the Glades. Shocker had Ox and Ricochet helped him but they were taken down as well. Guess super suits can't handle actual super powers and Will's a hero to the city. It's first superhero and hopefully things stay that good. Only time will tell.
Next chapter, Will runs with the high momentum he got from taking down Brick and saving the city to track down Hammerhead and anyone else who worked for Tombstone. In doing so, he sees that while exposing Tombstone was a good idea, it had some unintended consequences that affect people. Life is complicated and it ends up leading people down certain paths. This might be something that not even he can fix right away but that doesn't mean he won't try to help. On top of that, he reunites with an old friend at SCU before making his way to Central City for a meeting with Team Flash at STAR labs. There he gets his chance to fight some other metahumans and even makes his own metahuman supervillain he nicknames Lightning butt. Until then!
I hoped you guys like the chapter. Obviously things changed up since on the show, Brick does take over the Glades but with Will helping Team Arrow, that wouldn't have happened as easily. He's sort of gotten into a leadership role with Team Arrow and that'll continue in the next chapter as well. Along with Laurel's sort of taking on the Canary Mantle. That is not settled yet and it going to be something that will come up again in the next chapter as well between her, Will and Captain Lance. But Yuri got a promotion so yeah!
We got the New Enforcers with Ox and Ricochet. I took inspiration for them from Spectacular Spider-man and they'll be back. Plus, we now have Phineas Mason AKA the Tinkerer and he's going to be a persistent pain in the butt. Will sort of speaking to the city was something I had rumbling in my head. He's gone about 7 months in the city with no one other than Yuri and Captain Lance who know he's on their side. This was sort of his way to tell everyone that he's there to help them. And he's gone from a Starling City vigilante to a Star City Superhero. Kind of a nice evolution there. He did promise to keep the city safe for Oliver and he's keeping that promise.
Updates for November: The Mandalorian Maverick needs a few more days to get it exactly how I want it. It'll be up on Friday, November 5th, that much I promise. Omniverse-Earth 38 and The Perfect One will be updated for November as well as my next chapter for Multiverse. Take care guys, stay safe and have a Happy Halloween!
