The next day, while everyone else was eating breakfast, Seline decided to do something a little bit sneaky. Well, about as sneaky as trying to call her uncle is. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom!" Actually, she was heading to Alcina's bedroom. "Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo…" Seline hummed her version of what she thought sneaky music was as she made her way through the castle. Daniela knew that she definitely wasn't going to the bathroom (Seline was about as subtle as a giant stormcloud saying it isn't going to rain), so she dispatched a single fly off of her finger to see what she was doing. "Doo doo doo doo doo doo, super sneaky music, doo doo…" She could barely keep from laughing, and continued to watch through her fly. Luckily for Seline, the door to Alcina's room had been left open, as that was the only doorknob in the house to be modeled after the Lady's height. Unfortunately, that meant everything else in the room was also made to fit Alcina's 9'6", not Seline's 3'8". So that left her with the problem of reaching the phone. Making a mental note to apologize to her mother, Seline climbed up on her vanity, taking care not to mess up any of the makeup that was on it. Huh, I didn't know Mama was bad with phone numbers. It turned out that Alcina Dimitrescu secretly could never remember anyone's number, and had written them all down on a slip of paper next to the phone. Slowly, Seline put in Salvatore's number. "...Hello? Alcina? You never call me… Is everything alright?" He did not expect to hear a perky voice on the other end of the phone. "Hi, Uncle Salvatore! It's Seline!" Salvatore was incredibly surprised that she was calling him willingly. "Um… How are you?" He realized that he had no idea how to talk to someone on the phone. The only person that really called him was Mother Miranda, and she always led the conversation. All that he had ever needed to do was say yes or no. But very luckily for him, Seline did most of the talking. "So I visited Auntie Donna yesterday, and I realized that I have no clue where you live! I mean, I know Uncle Karl lives at a factory…" Salvatore interjected while she tried to figure out what to say next. "I'd be surprised if you didn't know he lived in a factory. He can barely go five seconds without talking about it!" The two burst out laughing, but Seline did her best to make it quiet so that nobody got suspicious. "You can tell awesome jokes, Uncle Salvatore!" That was the first time anyone had ever said that to him after he became the monster he was, and it was honestly kinda true. He remembered a time before his mutation, when he had been Sal Moreau, the life of every party. The person who was known for his hilarious jokes and interesting fishing stories. An entire life that had been stolen away from him by a false god. Oh well. "So, let me guess, you want to come over and see me?" Seline was surprised and a tiny bit relieved that he had figured out what she had been trying to ask. "Yeah! You're my family too, yet I've barely gotten to see you!" That was true. "Well, I'll talk to Alci- your mother. In the meantime, you should probably stop sneaking around on the phone." Seline's nervous laugh on the other end confirmed that he had been right. "Bye, Uncle Salvatore! See you soon!"
Miranda flitted throughout the crowd. All of them bowed down to her, but their expressions varied. Some looked upon her with fear. Others with loathing. And some, with quiet resignation. This was their life. This was what they were condemned to. As she finished walking through the town square, she could see most of them relaxing in relief. However, they almost instantly looked worried again as she made her way to the path that led to Castle Dimitrescu. Through some of the gossipy maids, everybody in the village knew that the Dimitrescus had adopted a child. Some of them were even familiar with Seline, and didn't want Miranda to do anything to her. Luckily, that was not her intention right now. It was just to watch. And watching is one of the things I do best. Once she got close enough to the castle, Miranda allowed the blackness within her to steal her form, and she moved as a pure shadow now. Going through a window, she observed the family. Only Miranda could watch this adorable scene without smiling. After getting permission to visit Moreau's reservoir, Seline had decided to make him a little gift, which turned out to be cookies. Unfortunately, the girls hadn't learned their lesson about baking the first time, and the kitchen was a mess again. And now that Alcina was trying to help, there was flour in places that were normally unreachable. Miranda didn't think of this moment as cute. She saw it as weak. That little girl was making all of them weak. Rebellious. And, if left unchecked, they would turn against her entirely. That wouldn't do at all. Miranda knew what she was going to do. She had the date in her mind. All she had to do was wait. She would wait as long as she needed. And then, she would break their hearts once more. They would never think of crossing her again. Even in her shadowy form, Miranda couldn't help but laugh. They all looked so happy in that castle. They had no idea what was coming for them. Deciding to go check on her other 'children', Miranda swirled away, until she arrived at Heisenberg's Factory. Karl had always been the most interesting one. The only one who rejected her. It would be easier to simply get rid of him, but Miranda had never been the type of person to do things the easy way. Instead, she kept him around, pretending to be blind to his disloyalty. It was almost a game, now. All of them were her little toys. And when she got bored of her toys? She'd throw them away, and get some new playthings. This is going to be fun.
A/N: Hello, everyone! Now that my break is done, I'll be doing my best to get back on my upload schedule, which means a part once every 3-5 days. Still, if it takes a little longer for things to get out, please don't be mad at me. The big thing in my life is still going on, and it's still hitting hard. But I'll do my best to push through it and keep writing your favorite least favorite Resident Evil fanfiction!
