Epilogue - The end, bitch!
"Why is she so heavy? You'd think the way she reacted to sugar, she'd be thinner," Jacob complained, holding the lifeless body closer to his chest. Her ice-cold touch was burning into his own, much hotter skin.
He bit his lip, looking down onto her pale face, the eyes closed as if she were asleep. Simply asleep. But then again, his eyes were drawn to her blue lips. She was oddly beautiful, like an ice-princess.
Her head tipped back and forth to the gentle rocking of his steps as he made his way through the forest. It was dark and the trees stood close together. The sun was hinting its quickly coming arrival at the horizon.
"Don't complain, you are the one who couldn't save her," Embry said darkly, shooting him a glare. His eyes spoke of anger, but also regret and guilt.
"And you were the one killing her with your nasty-ass gum," Jacob bit back, almost growling. He clenched his teeth and closed his eyes for a second. What had they done?
"Enough," Sam commanded using his alpha voice, which held much more weight. The two boys flinched and ducked their heads but didn't decrease the glares.
"What about Paul? Paul was the one making Viv choke in the first place!" Jacob dared to say, daring to defy the direct command. "You were flirting with her the whole evening, saying disgusting things to her."
"Yeah, Paul you sexist dipshit," Quil added, feeling brave now that Jacob stood up to Sam. He was confused, looked lost, and didn't know what was happening.
"You are one to talk, you are the one who gave Lauren the water with ice. God damnit, we try to interrogate her, and you serve her iced water. Like she is some kind of princess," Paul shot back, his fist clenched, and his eyes narrowed.
"She said she was thirsty, what did you want to do anyways? Waterboard her until she confessesed her kink for role plays?" Quil asked dead-panned.
"I was actually planning on trying to convince her with my charms, but I guess we won't know now," Paul paused for a second, "since she is fucking dead!" He almost screamed at the end, looking like he might pounce at Quil in any moment.
"Charms," Jacob laughed out loud. It was a cold and bitter laugh. Paul's ire turned to Jacob.
"Come at me bro, give it your best shot because it will be your last," Paul said provocatively, getting in a stance, ready to fight.
"I would but I am too busy carrying a body around. A fucking body. I wonder how that might have happened," Jacob resorted to sarcasm.
"The next one who dares speak without my permission will be on patrol duty for the next six months," said Sam, interrupting the bickering of the hormone fueled boys.
Paul rolled his eyes, Quil looked scared and Jacob, he was staring at Lauren in his arms. Jared and Embry were scouting for a good place to bury a body. It was not something they usually did so the prime areas are still unknown to them.
"We found a good place up north from here, a nice meadow with wildflowers and all that," Jared declared out of breath, running towards them naked, Embry close behind him.
Sam nodded and answered, "good work, lead the way."
They continued on; their steps muffled by the under-bush, the alpha leading the group.
They unpacked the shovels and started digging in the middle of the meadow. The meadow itself was lit by the gray light right before the sun rose and for once, there weren't any clouds in the sky.
Jacob laid Lauren's body down at the edge of the meadow close to the trees but still between the flowers. He lingered for a moment, hoping she would just get up and scream at them again. She didn't. Then he joined the others.
They took turns shoveling the grave. There were always two people in the fast-deepening hole. Sam stood off to the side, holding watch and making sure his wolves didn't misbehave. Quil who was currently on a break raised his hand, his eyes pleading.
"No Quil, not now," Sam said, annoyed, and just took a quick glance in his direction.
Quil raised his arm higher, snapping his fingers now. He looked more like he needed to pee.
"Quil, you cannot talk now, you and Paul and Jacob are in a time-out," Sam insisted, his voice growing more serious.
Quil did not stop but instead of raising his hand to signal that he had something to say, he pointed at something behind Sam. He made a weird urging sound with his closed mouth.
"That is the oldest trick in the book. I won't turn around just so you can punch Paul in the face," Sam explained and rolled his eyes again.
"As if he could," slipped past Paul's lips. He slapped his hands before his mouth, letting the shovel fall to the ground in the process.
"HA! Paul spoke first. Have fun on parole, asshole," Jacob commented and laughed gleefully.
"Sam, please turn around, it is very important that you turn around right now," Quil pleaded, his eyes big and honest. Perhaps it was for that fact that Sam finally turned around and looked at none other than Edward, Emmett and Jasper Cullen.
Edward still had a bit of blood on the corner of his mouth, making him look dangerous and like a child that couldn't eat at the same time.
"What are you doing at my meadow and why is Lauren laying on the ground?" Edward asked, slightly confused. Emmett and Jasper stepped closer as well.
"And why are you digging?" Emmett added, also seemingly confused.
"Your meadow? I can't see your name written here anywhere," Jacob shot back.
"Actually, Bella and I engraved our names in that tree over there," Edward replied, looking smug. Jacob shot the tree a dirty look and then sent one to Edward. He started to breathe more heavily, and his body started shaking uncontrollably.
"That is pack matter, so fuck off bloodsuckers," Sam said aggressively, readying his body to transform. "Stay back Jacob," he ordered.
"Her heart was weak," Edward said but got ignored. Not just Jacob but Paul and Jared started growling lowly. Emmett and Jasper responded with a growl of their own, but they knew they were in the minority.
"Everybody chill out," Sam ordered his pack, and the Cullens relaxed as soon as the wolves did.
"What are you doing with her?" Emmett asked curiously, trying to peek past the guy's and snatching a glance at the pale girl.
"There was an… incident," Sam started but interrupted himself again. "It doesn't matter now. She will get a beautiful burial. One she deserved"
"Why at mine and Bella's meadow? Now it will stink for the next few weeks," Edward complained, and Jasper gave him a jab to the ribs. He looked intensely at the other, obviously communicating something through his mind.
"Everybody will think I killed her," Edward whined, "admittedly, I was willing to take the risk, but I was also looking forward to killing her."
"What the fuck dude," Paul replied, and he was not the only one thinking that. "Everybody shot Edward a disturbed glance and Jasper jabbed him again.
"I am not the one who is burying her alive," Edward defended himself, raising his hands.
"What do you mean alive?" All the wolves exclaim amazingly in unison. Various shouts of "alive?" and "what?" and "I didn't kill her after all?" could be heard.
"You thought she was dead?" Emmett asked dumbfounded. "Didn't you check her pulse?"
"You are supposed to check the pulse?" Embry answered in a mix of confusion and surprise. "But we killed her," he added softly, looking down to his feet. She had looked so dead, so pale and lifeless. The thought of her being gone, it had consumed him. There had been no room for anything else.
"So, all of you thought you killed her, and your first instinct was it to bury her in the woods?" Jasper spoke up for the first time that evening. He raised his eyebrow.
"What else were we supposed to do?" Jared defended himself. They had been so busy with the realization that the imprint was gone, so busy with blaming each other who had killed Viv.
"Hm let me think, CPR?" Jasper asked, just as flabbergasted as Emmett. "Call an ambulance or perhaps the police?"
"What is done is done," Sam cut between the bickering. Guilt was flooding through him, making his voice thick and his chest tight.
"Let's check on her." He should have known better. Should have done all the things the bloodsucker listed, should have kept his cool. But he didn't, he couldn't. To think, he would have buried the girl. Buried her alive.
Jacob jumped out of the hole and towards the place he had left her. Hope made him run faster, hope made his heartbeat into his throat, and hope lifted the veil on his mind.
"I studied to be a doctor once or twice," Edward offered and stepped forward as well. "No," cried all the wolves.
"I did too, let me check," Jasper interjected quietly and laid a hand on Edward's shoulder. Edward retreated.
"Where did Lauren go?" Jacob shouted across the meadow, standing at the space where he had left her. Only the space was empty now. The flowers were still pressed down and squished from where she had laid just minutes ago.
"Did you just lose a dead body?"
Hello everybody!
This crack!story has come to a (probably) unexpected end. I had so much fun writing it and I hope you had just as much fun reading it. Thank you so much for all the comments and support, it really kept me going :) I enjoyed reading every single one of them. And fear not, I have planned a part 2 and a little something. I really want to hear your thoughts on this:
1. For part 2 is planned that Vivian takes over the body of someone in Hogwarts. I don't quite want to reveal who it is yet, but I will say: it is a very neglected, often portrayed as very bitchy, character. You probably know who it is anyway ;)
2. Somehow I feel like Viv should have had a good time with the pack after all the torture I put her through. Who wants to read a smut oneshot with Viv/Pack? I would also totally be open for a spinoff oneshot Viv/Rosalie/Emmet. (The person who brought this one on, are you happy now?) Viv needs some serious love.
When there is something new coming out related to this story, I will notify you guys with a new chapter, if that is alright?
Thank you so much for reading, see you soon hopefully,
Lys
