"Meh~!"
There weren't that many operators who worked here that had pets on the Island.
Eyjafjalla was in that minority, maybe even rarer. Lin Ye had never seen someone who kept sheep as pets.
They all gathered around the both of them Most of them were competing with each other to get pet by him
As Lin Ye was giving them the attention they wanted, he glanced at Eyjafjalla.
With how her staff looked like a piece of a branch that was cut off, she looked more like a shepherd that herded sheep than a Catastrophe Messenger.
In other words, she was cute.
He enjoyed petting the sheep's heads. They felt so soft and fluffy. It took all of his willpower to not snuggle into them and fall asleep at that very moment. Alas, he could only enjoy their fluffy wool by petting them for now.
"Meh~!"
And they seemed to enjoy it too.
"They hurt people?"
Lin Ye asked after Eyjafjalla explained the nature of her sheep to him. Then he looked at the sheep that he was currently petting.
"Meh~!"
"... Really?" Lin Ye raised brow, "How unexpected..."
Eyjafjalla nodded.
"They are quite special," She timidly told him, "They usually hurt people when they get near them."
"Really? Them?" Lin Ye was still confused, "Do they bite them?"
"No," She shook her head, "They do not attack people, but they become extremely hot when they are feeling tense. It's their self-protection measure."
Lin Ye felt like he knew someone who did the same thing. Then he remembered who that person was.
"Are they called Skyfire?"
"Skyfire?" Eyjafjalla tilted her head, a little confused, "No, they aren't. I call them little black sheep."
"Haha. I am just joking." Lin Ye chuckled and rubbed her head, "On a side note, don't tell a person named Skyfire that I said that to you."
Lin Ye coughed.
"And don't worry about it." Lin Ye smiled at her, "They won't hurt me. Animals are very comfortable with me."
"Is that so?" Eyjafjalla looked amazed at him, "Senpai, you're amazing!"
"It's nothing special," Lin Ye smiled at her.
He pulled out his phone and looked at the time. He still had time to go to his office. He glanced at Eyjafjalla.
"Are you free now?"
"I am," Eyjafjalla nodded, "You are my senior. I will listen to you."
Lin Ye nodded back and was about to guide her to his office when he thought about something.
"Eyjafjalla" Lin Ye glanced at her, "Can I ask you something?"
"Yes," Eyjafjalla smiled at him, "What is it?"
"Can I call you Eyja?" Lin Ye scratched his head," Your name is kind of a mouthful to say."
She was shocked by this. She lowered her head.
Seeing this, Lin Ye thought that he had overstepped his boundaries.
"Oh, I am sorry," Lin Ye apologized, "Forget that I ever ask-."
"No," She interrupted him, raising her head and giving him her brightest smile, "I would be happy if you did that, Senpai!"
Lin Ye was taken aback by this. His face slowly melted into a fond smile and he petted her head.
Lin Ye could feel her leaning into his palm.
"Glad to hear that," He chuckled at her, "Eyja."
"Yes, Senpai!" Ejya nodded at him.
"Let's go."
"Mhm!"
With that, Lin Ye took Eyja to his office. She followed him with her flock closely tailing behind her.
This attracted a lot of people's attention. Lin Ye wanted to know more about his newly dubbed Junior, so he asked where she got her sheep from.
"My sheep?" Ejya smiled at him, "They are what my mother left for me."
"Is that so?" Lin Ye then petted one of them, "They must be important to you."
"Yes," Eyja said softly," I bring them with me everywhere."
While they were chatting, someone walked in front of them. Lin Ye wanted to warn Eyja, but he saw her stop by herself. After that person passed them, Lin Ye couldn't help but be curious about this.
"You can see that person?" Lin Ye asked, "I thought I would need to warn you not to bump into people."
"I understand what you mean, Senpai." Ejya nodded, "However, I can feel the body temperature of the people around me. If someone walks towards me, I can feel them in advance. I won't bump into anyone."
Feel people's temperature? Can't Skyfire do the same thing?
Lin Ye pondered upon this.
Ejya then continued.
"So, Senpai doesn't need to worry." Eyja smiled at him, "I won't bump into Senpai. I can feel your body temperatur-oof!"
Just as she was about to finish her sentence, she accidentally stepped into a crack and immediately fell forward. Luckily, Lin Ye was in front of her to block her. Her head bumped his back.
Fortunately, with her size, even if she hit him, it didn't hurt Lin Ye that much.
Her horns were still a bit sharp though.
He stopped and turned around to make sure she was fine.
"Ejya?" Lin Ye asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry, Senpai!" Eyja covered her forehead and immediately took a step back away from him, " I-I didn't see my feet clearly. I didn't mean it!"
"It's fine. It's fine. I'm alright. Don't worry," Lin Ye reassured her, "But you still have to pay attention. If you can't see the road clearly, it will be very dangerous."
"Normally I let my black sheep go ahead of me." Eyja said weakly, "They would help guide me. Well, in other words, this was my fault."
"Nonsense, it was not your fault" Lin Ye rubbed her head for a while and smiled at her, "Let me be your black sheep for today."
After this, Lin Ye would warn Eyja of everything that was on the road. Cracks, objects, and so on. He was like a glorified personal GPS that only served to guide her to his office.
Ejya's face slowly became more flustered over time.
This was an adorable sight to Lin Ye. He could barely suppress his chuckles from coming out.
Was he slowly becoming a sadist? He did not know or care. He was just enjoying the sight of the flustered goat girl beside him.
"S-Senpai," Ejya finally mustered up her courage and stammered to Lin Ye, "You don't need to do this. I am a Catastrophe Messenger. I am not that vulnerable. This is a bit embarrassing."
"Is that so?" Lin Ye sighed, "Then I will stop."
Looks like he couldn't enjoy this any longer. He really didn't want to stop but if this made her happier, so be it.
"The room on your left is my office." Lin Ye instructed her, "Let's go in."
"Yes, Senpai." Ejya nodded and turned around.
Then she hit a wall.
"Kya!"
... Holy shit that was adorable.

A few minutes later, Lin Ye finished putting on a band-aid on Ejya's forehead.
She lowered her head and whispered something to him.
"It wasn't like this before," She whispered, "Although I did not see the way clearly, I won't hit a wall just because I was nervous."
"Nervous? Why are you nervous?" Lin Ye was speechless, "Do I look like Grandma Wolf?"
"Grandma Wolf?" She tilted her head, "Who is that, Senpai?"
"It's a bad person," Lin Ye explained to her.
"A bad person?" Ejya immediately shook her head and explained, "Of course not. How can Senpai be a bad person? I am just... It's been so long since I heard someone talk to me so clearly. Most of the time I need to wear a hearing aid, though it is not that comfortable to wear."
After listening to Ejya's words, Lin Ye felt even more distressed for this kind-hearted girl.
"It will be okay," Lin Ye smiled at her, "All will be well. Sooner or later, you will be back to normal. I promise."
"... Mhm."
Ejya just pursed her lips and gave a soft humming noise.
Ejya must have thought that he was just being kind to her. Giving her empty words. Probably because she knew that there was no cure for her condition.
She could only delay the inevitable. She must have lost hope of her being cured.
Poor girl. She must have been through a lot.
Lin Ye sighed in his heart.
He decided to skip this depressing topic for now.
"You are a Catastrophe Messenger, right?" Lin Ye asked her, "Is that true?"
"Yes, Senpai." She nodded happily to him.
"That's really amazing," Lin Ye said with a smile," Can I ask why you became one in the first place?"
Ejya was silent for a while before she answered him.
"Because of my parents' will."
"Their will?"
"Yes," Ejya nodded, "I want to prove their value."
