After Eyja gave him the date the seminar would be held, Lin Ye did not waste any time meeting up with Kal'tsit the next day. Luckily for him, she had not left the Island yet.
He asked her to let him leave the Island to accompany Eyja to Lungmen to attend the seminar, as well as to meet up with Penguin Logistics.
After he had finished speaking, Kal'tsit did not give him an immediate answer, but instead fell silent and pondered his request. After a while, she finally opened her mouth.
"If I send a reliable operator to accompany Eyjafjalla, you would not have to go." Kal'tsit replied, "I can also help you contact Penguin Logistics. Is there a reason you would have to leave?"
Lin Ye had already guessed her answer even before she opened her mouth. She would not be easy to persuade.
Especially considering she was a high-ranking person on this island, it would be expected of her to behave like this.
"I've been on the Island for a long time," Lin Ye answered honestly, "I want to go out and relieve my boredom."
Kal'tsit smiled at him, glad that he was being honest with her.
"You're feeling bored? A few months ago, weren't you complaining to me about how you were always assigned dangerous missions? You even told me you wanted to rest." She smiled, "Are bored with all the rest that you are getting now?"
Lin Ye chuckled at this.
She was not wrong. Wasn't he supposed to be a psychologist? Why was he always in danger every time he did a mission? So he had asked Kal'tsit for a small break.
"I did say that," Lin Ye coughed to hide his embarrassment, "But that was back then. I thought I could do something here, but you removed all of the work that I was supposed to do."
Lin Ye thought she would deny this, but to his surprise, she admitted it with a second thought.
"Yes, I did." Kal'tsit said, "You have already done a lot for us after all."
"I didn't do anything really," Lin Ye said, "And why did you even do that to begin with?"
"That was Warfarin's idea. She asked me to offload all of your work so you could get enough rest and take care of your body," Kal'tsit told him, "Of course, I did not cut your salary."
Seeing that she admitted it, Lin Ye sighed at this.
"So, now I am a glorified blood provider?"
"I know that you have been dissatisfied by this for a long time, so I want to ask you." Kal'tsit calmly said to him, "Isn't this what you dreamed of? To do the least work for the most money?"
"When did I have that dream?" Lin Ye was now confused.
"Did you not? That's strange." Kal'tsit put her chin in her hands and looked at Lin Ye with interest, "I remember hearing that you wanted to be rich and have a wife though."
The corners of Lin Ye's mouth twitched slightly.
How the hell does she know that? I don't remember telling her about that.
"So in a way your wish has been fulfilled." Kal'tsit said, "It's just that the one who is supporting you is not a rich woman, but Rhodes Island. Of course, if you really want a rich woman to take care of you, then treat me as a rich woman. Although I don't want to admit it, I'm quite well off."
Woman. Don't say that to a man who has never been in a relationship. You're giving me too much hope. My poor heart can't take the rejection.
Lin Ye almost couldn't tell whether Kal'tsit was joking or not. But no matter what, it was impossible to agree to her suggestion anyway.
We don't know each other that much. We should at least go on a date first... Who am I kidding? No one wants to marry me anyways.
With that depressing thought on his mind, he coughed to regain his composure and tried to get back on topic.
"I was just joking at that time." Lin Ye sighed at her, "So please forget that."
"Is that so? Then I won't joke around anymore." Kal'tsit sat up straight, "Indeed, whether it is from my personal point of view or from that of Rhodes Island, you should not leave the Island. You should know the reason."
"I do," Lin Ye stared at her, "But what I want to know is, is your view the same as that of Rhodes Island?"
"Of course not," Kal'tsit shook her head, "I am a medical scientist. From this perspective, I hope that there will be a drug that can cure the Infected. The sooner this drug is developed, the sooner we will be able to save more people. From the perspective of Rhodes Island, after Ursus broke off all cooperation with us, our drug orders have been reduced by nearly a third. This is undoubtedly a serious blow to the development of Rhodes Island. So, we need more orders and receipts. Once the L-Drug is successfully developed, the benefits it will bring to Rhodes Island will be inconceivable. Therefore, regardless of whose view it is, I hope you won't leave the Island, because if you run into an accident, it would be an extreme blow to Rhodes Island."
Lin Ye expected Kal'tsit to give him a good explanation, but he did not expect it would be that complex. Lin Ye took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.
"I know that you are right," Lin Ye gazed towards the window in her office, "But from my point of view, I definitely don't want to be imprisoned in Rhodes Island."
"Why do you say that?" Kal'tsit questioned, "If you feel like there is nothing to do, I can return your job to you. You can go to work as normal, as long as you don't feel irritable."
Faced with Kal'tsit's arguments, Lin Ye did not know what to do. He fell silent. Just when Kal'tsit thought she had convinced Lin Ye, he slowly said to her.
"The value of a person is determined by their death." Lin Ye said to her, "I remember reading that from an author."
"Who's the author?" Kal'tsit frowned at this, "Why haven't I heard this before?"
"Their works are not of this world," Lin Ye chuckled at his inside joke, "But, it doesn't really matter."
Lin Ye coughed twice, then stared into Kal'tsit's eyes.
"I hope that when I die, people will recognize my value by how I lived," Lin Ye smiled at her, "not for my blood."
Now it was Kal'tsit's turn to fall silent. Neither of them spoke. They just stared at each other, waiting to see who would give in.
Finally, it was Kal'tsit who gave in first.
"Actually, if you really want to go to Lungmen, you could just say so," She told him, "I never said that I would take away your personal freedom."
Kal'tsit's answer surprised Lin Ye. He did not think that using a crappy quote that, honestly, was quite embarrassing to say out loud, could persuade her.
"You want to go to Lungmen right? No problem." Kal'tsit nodded, "However, you have to promise me something."
"Sure," Lin Ye nodded, "What is it?"
"For your safety, I need to send a combat commissioner to follow you." Kal'tsit told him, "Will that be a problem?"
"It's okay." Lin Ye shrugged at this. He did not really plan to bring Eyja to Lungmen by himself anyways, "There is nothing wrong with having a bodyguard with us. I may not be able to protect Eyja by myself."
"That's not what I meant," Kal'tsit explained, "Eyjafjalla can take care of herself. It's you who needs the protection. Even she could protect you."
"..."
I hate that I agree with her. I know that Eyja should be strong. Every person I know is a monster in their own right. Even children. Just look at Ifrit! I don't need to say more. Children are scary strong in this world, especially if they are a girl.
"Also, since you are going to Penguin Logistics, there is another thing I want you to do for me." Kal'tsit said, "I want you to bring something with you to give to the owner of Penguin Logistics."
"That sounds easy," Lin Ye nodded, "Who is the owner?"
"A penguin." She answered
"..."
Lin Ye just stared at her.
A what now?
Lin Ye thought that she was joking. Kal'tsit saw his confusion and explained.
"I am not kidding you. He is really a penguin," Kal'tsit told him, "When you see him for yourself, you will understand. It's how their company's name came about. But don't misunderstand. He's a really hard person to deal with."
"A penguin that opened a large logistics department. After hearing this, I already know that he will not be a simple person." Lin Ye said jokingly, "Are you looking for him to buy something for you too?"
"Yes," She nodded, "Some battleship parts."
Lin Ye's smile stiffened, "...What now?"
"To be more precise, a part of a mobile battleship. The mobile city we are using now is no longer good enough." Kal'tsit got up, walked to the window and opened it. The whole Rhodes Island was reflected in their eyes, "This one we have currently is getting old. If we were to be hit by another Catastrophe, it would be difficult to avoid. Therefore, it is imperative to repair this mobile battleship, but this plan is still confidential. There are not many people who know about this."
What she said confused him.
"If it's confidential, why are you telling me this?"
"Because you are someone who is more in touch with your feelings compared to others, I feel that you are different." Kal'tsit said lightly, "That is why I can tell you very clearly that I am not satisfied with the state Rhodes Island is currently in. I hope it can develop faster. For this, we need more money, more orders, and a more desirable reputation, and you are able to help us realize all of these possibilities. So, I hope I can include you in the planning of the future of Rhodes Island. You will be more than a mere psychologist."
Lin Ye understood what she was trying to say to him.
She wanted to make him play a bigger role in Rhodes Island.
"I know you understand what I mean." Kal'tsit looked at Lin Ye and said slowly, "So Lin Ye, this is what I am formally requesting of you. I hope you can assist me in developing Rhodes Island."
