Prompt - Love Bites

"Cookie?"

Ruby's cheerful voice rounded the corner as she took a seat next to the Schnee Heiress. While everyone was enjoying their lunch break eating, Weiss was busy studying for a dust theory test. Her head didn't even raise from her textbook at Ruby's question. All she did was lift a hand in the direction of her partner's voice, letting the girl place a cookie in her awaiting grasp.

"Hm!" Ruby let out happily once Weiss took a small bite, placing it on a napkin by her side.

With that Ruby took a seat and dug into her own meal.

The two girls were sitting together with their friends in Team JNPR as well as Yang and Blake. Where it was common to hear them all talking over one another, now they just sat there, stunned, looking at Weiss as she nibbled on her cookie as her pencil continued to scratch on paper.

Weiss peered up at her friends, an eyeroll waiting just for them. "What? She'd continue nagging me until I accepted the cookie anyways." Then she was back to work.

"Aah same old Weissy. I was scared my sister was turning you into a cookie nut just like her," Yang said with a grin.

Ruby's "hey!" was interrupted by her choking on a cookie, which brought out a round of laughter from the group. She really did love her cookies.

Some time later, while the four girls of Team RWBY took their mandatory bi-weekly trip into Vale (mandatory after the hair conditioner fight of January 27th), they ventured into a new bakery that opened up. There were plenty of exquisite food options available. Fresh bread and bagel were along one wall, while another was filled with donuts, pies, multitudes of different brownies and blondies, and a few mille-feuilles. In front of the counter, behind a screen of protective glass, were rows of pristine cookies.

Ruby went straight for the glass of cookies, even as her teammates perused the bakery.

"Weiss!" Ruby squealed, pointing to the cookies in front of her. She bounced in excitement as Weiss did her best to hide a smile as she walked over to the girl.

"A dozen of those cookies please."

The teller rang up Weiss's order, handing the bag stuffed with cookies to the much too excited young huntress. Rummaging into the bag, Ruby pulled out a cookie, looked it over, shook her head and put it back in.

A strange sight, when Ruby Rose of all people didn't much on the first cookie she picked, but alas, maybe she was getting wiser in her older age? Yang didn't think so, but she did have a hunch about something.

Checking over two more cookies, Ruby finally found one that seemed satisfactory.

"Here you go Weiss!"

"Thank you, Ruby," Weiss said, accepting the treat from Ruby like the previous gift it was.

Nobody mentioned that it was Weiss who purchased the cookie gift and not Ruby.

"Hey," Ruby said, walking up to Weiss, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. The semester's exams had long since ended and Weiss had finished one of her classes with a… less than spectacular grade. Ruby held up a small oatmeal raisin cookie. "Cookie?"

Weiss silently thanked her, taking a small nibble before handing it back to Ruby, who took a bite over Weiss's section.

"Want me there when you call your father? I am totally ready to be the perfect leader in front of him and make sure he knows that you're the best second in command ever."

"Hey! I resent that notion!" Yang exclaimed from across the dorm.

It brought out a sad, little chuckle from Weiss.

"Thanks Ruby. But I think I'm going to need to have that conversation alone."

Ruby nodded and gave Weiss a quick hug, before handing Weiss the rest of the shared cookie. "just message me if you need me."

With that, Ruby left the dorm room.

"Ruby seems to be giving you a lot of cookies," Yang offhandedly mentioned.

Weiss hummed in agreement.

"You don't like cookies."

"I think she gives them out when she thinks people are feeling emotional. Or stressed."

Yang hummed in response, letting the conversation die for a moment.

"She doesn't give me or Blake cookies," Yang all but whispered. "Just you."

Weeks later the four girls of Team RWBY were wandering through Vale, as the city prepared for the Vital Festival. Weiss was truly excited about the event. All the incredible amounts of planning that went into it was truly a sight to behold. Who cared that the rest of her team didn't care for the intrinsic goings on which took place behind the flashy fair games and food stands and-

"Cookies!"

Ruby's squeal of delight for the small, circular treat should have been expected. Yet, Weiss did notice both her teammates also trying to rid themselves of the ringing in their ears.

"Save some cookies for me!" Yang called out, chasing after her sister.

Blake gave Weiss a look. Shrugging, the two followed after the sisters, only to find them at a cookie stand which had a truly disgruntled owner and a laughing Yang.

"What's going on?" Blake asked.

Yang did her best to calm herself down, but her laughs turned to hiccups, which was causing her to laugh harder. "Shopkeep… bet Ruby… she could eat all the cookies… if she couldn't… she had to pay for all the ones she ate." Yang gasped out between fits of laughter.

Ruby just sat there in the corner, looking a little rounded than she had been just a few minutes prior.

She let out a burp she tried her best to muffle. "Sorry?"

As they all left the shop and its grumbling shopkeep, Ruby tapped on Weiss's shoulder, letting the two of them fall behind Yang and Blake.

"Hey Weiss?"

"Yes Ruby?"

Ruby reached into her pocket.

"Cookie?"

Weiss gasped. "I thought you ate them all!"

Ruby rubbed the back of her neck, blushing and looking away from Weiss. "Ya, but they were so good and I wanted to save one for you."

"Thank you," Weiss said, accepting the cookie from the overly stuffed girl and taking a little bite.

Weiss did her best to smile at the exceptionally average cookie. "It's delicious."

Weiss couldn't help but love Ruby's joyful smile.

Years later, Weiss was sitting on a park bench with Ruby, watching birds chirp and peck at the little pieces of oatmeal cookie that the two of them were feeding them.

"Cookie?" Ruby asked with a smile, holding up another oatmeal cookie for Weiss to feed to the birds.

Weiss rolled her eyes. "Of course, when do I ever say no?"

"Hopefully never," Ruby replied with cheer. "Hey Weiss?"

"Yes Ruby?"

"When we were at Beacon, you didn't like cookies, right?"

"Yes Ruby. I didn't."

"But you do now?"

Weiss rolled her eyes. "How could I not? Year of being stuck with you changes a girl's tastes."

"Why'd you accept them? If you didn't like them, of course."

"Because you were the one giving them."

Ruby reached in and gave Weiss a huge hug, which obviously Weiss returned.

"Stay right there, Ruby," Weiss ordered, standing up from her seat. She reached into her purse, pulling out a small velvet box.

Kneeling down, Ruby gasped in surprise when the box was opened to reveal a ring.

A ring with a gemstone in the shape of her favourite snack.

Ruby was already nodding when Weiss asked her question.

"Cookie?"

Another whiterose week, another year gone by. And another birthday!
