Prompt - Pirates AU
The massive ship of oak broke through the waves, sailing swiftly alongside the wind. Captain Ruby Rose of the Crescent Rose stood on the railing of the crow's nest, holding fiercely to a rope with one hand, the other gazing into her spy glass. The movements of the ship, the brutal up and down motions, did nothing to dissuade the pirate captain from her position. She was as strong as she was tough. Her fierce and loyal crew on deck below her scurried around the ship, completing all manner of tasks she had set before them. Her first mate was piloting the ship just as she had ordered. Straight and true towards her target.
Aha! There be her long sought-after enemy. The one whom she had fought against for many a year. The flap off its bow was perfectly ingrained in her mind. A light blue snowflake on a field of black waving madly in the wind.
"Weiss!" Ruby cried out. Her greatest enemy. Weiss Schnee, pirate queen and captain of the Mysaster.
"Myrtenaster."
"Thank you, Weiss."
Weiss Schnee, pirate queen and captain of the Myrtenaster.
Placing her spy glass back in its pouch on her belt, captain Ruby leaped off the edge, swing on the rope down to her deck and landing with a heavy thud.
"Pirates!" She cried out, quickly getting the attention of her entire crew. She pulled out her sword, raising it high. "Weiss!"
Her fellow pirates echoed out her cry, raising their own swords aloft as a cheer rang out and all were prepared for battle.
"To battle!" Captain Ruby commanded. The Crescent Rose, Ruby's best pirate ship ever, made ready for naval combat. Twenty cannons on either side were put into position. They were loaded by her exceptional crew. Running up to the quarte-deck, she relieved her first mate, taking command of the helm.
The Myrtenaster seemed to spot her. "Raise the flag!" Ruby cried out, her order being repeated by her first mate and second mate, down towards every person of note as the command was followed through.
Her own pirate flag rose into the sky. A cloaked skeleton carrying a fearsome looking scythe, all standing in front of a bright red heart on a field of black. It was the Crescent Rose's third flag, and Ruby thought it was the best one yet.
She drew it herself.
The Myrtenaster and the Crescent Rose closed in on one another, the fearsome waves crashing against the sides of each mighty ship, as if trying to force them apart. To keep such brilliant captains from this terrible battle which was approaching.
But nothing could stop their forward movement.
The ships passed each other by, so close that they could hear the shouting of the pirates on board the other ship.
And then, Captain Ruby locked eyes with her opponent. Blue met silver. The pirate queen, Captain Weiss Schnee herself.
Captain Weiss raised her own sword high up into the air, the other hand on the wheel of her own ship.
"I defeat you!" She cried out.
Ruby pulled out her own sword, "no I beat you!"
"No me!"
"No me!"
"I said it first!"
"Well, thbptttttttt!"
"Girls, no spitting."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Their pirates echoed their own words, screaming villainous retorts at one another.
And then it became eerily quiet, save for the sounds of the waves. It was time for the captains to give their orders.
"Fire!" They both screamed as a volley of cannon fire rang out, exploding into each ship.
Shrapnel flew, fires engulfed powder kegs as many a brilliant sailor fell overboard and plummeted to their doom.
But it wasn't over yet. Each ship had damaged the other, but this was by no means an end to their fight. Captain Ruby saw into her opponent's eyes and knew it would be Weiss or her. One of them was going to survive the day, the other descending beneath the water alongside the wreckage of their ship.
And Captain Ruby of the Crescent Rose wasn't about to let the pirate queen survive for one day more.
"Turn around!"
"Aye yay captain!" Her crew shouted as she spun the mighty wheel, the ship turning about with expert precision.
Captain Ruby scowled as she saw that Captain Weiss had a similar plan to her own. Not if she had anything to say about it!
"Fire!" She screamed. It wasn't the best position to fire from, but she was the first to send off a second volley.
The Myrtenaster took damaging hits as cannon balls reached their target. A cleverly placed chain shot struck true, tearing away at the Myrtenaster's sails and tearing apart the ship's second mast. Ruby cried out in victory, a sneaky little laugh filling her lips as she saw the mast fall. The Myrtenaster would be much slower in the water without it. That gave Ruby and the Crescent Rose a much-needed advantage.
But the fight was not yet over. Captain Ruby had fought the pirate queen enough times to know that she always had some trick up her sleeve.
Then she heard it. A loud blast of a horn. Captain Ruby paled. She knew what this meant. Kraken!
Darn that dastardly pirate queen. She was no longer playing fair.
"Reload! Reload!" Ruby commanded wildly. There was no way to beat the kraken without her cannons filled and ready to fire. But maybe, maybe if she could sink Weiss and the Myrtenaster before the kraken arrived, she'd be safe from it's clutches.
"Fire!" She shouted again. Cannons fired one by one as they were reloaded. No longer were they waiting for a full volley to be prepared. This was do or die, and Ruby knew which one she preferred.
The Myrtenaster finally let out its own volley of cannon fire. Wood cracked. Sails ripped. She heard the screams of men and women, brave pirates the lot of them, falling to enemy fire. But still her cannons rang out. Sail tore away on her enemy's ship. She still had a chance to win this.
Then a groan.
An awful groan that shook Captain Ruby to her core. Her eyes went wide. It had arrived. Earlier than she had expected.
Ten mighty tentacles flew up into the sky surrounding the ship.
"A hundred tent-cles!"
"Nu-huh. Mrs. Kraken only has ten tent-cles. See?"
"Then I want Mr. Kraken too."
"No, Mr. Kraken is watching Zwei."
"Oh, right. Eleven tent-cles?"
"… Okay."
Eleven mighty tentacles flew up into the sky surrounding the ship.
"Oh no!" Captain Ruby cried out. "Fire at tent-cles!"
Her crew did their best. Cannonball after cannonball struck the tentacles of the Kraken, but none could pierce its flesh. Then the Kraken's tentacles fell into her ship. She screamed in fright, watching as her ship was cleaved apart.
"Noooooo!" Captain Ruby could do nothing other than watch as water leaked through her vessel and it began to sink. "Bad Weiss! Meanie Weiss! I will revenge you! Arrgh! Blub, blub, blub"
Weiss giggled, splashing water at Ruby as she brought her rubber ducky below the water of their shared bathtub.
"Blub, blub." Ruby cried out, splashing water everywhere. The two descended into fits of rambunctious laughter, spraying water everywhere, even as Ruby's mother did her best trying to clean them amid their fearsome pirate battle. The third one in as many bath times.
"No! Cap-an Ruby! I save you!" Weiss shouted, splashing down at Ruby's rubber duck with her own, lifting it above the waterline.
"Mrs. Kraken is save you!"
"Yay! Best fren!"
Ruby crawled over, giving Weiss a big hug.
Weiss quickly pushed Ruby away, laughing all the while.
From outside the tub, Summer Rose watched her daughter and her daughter's best friend with a tired smirk. At only two and three respectively, they were already a mighty handful. Yet, they adored one another.
"Sword fight?" Ruby questioned.
"Sword fight!"
"Actually girls, I think it's time to get out and get all dried up. How does that sound?"
"Nooo!" They both shouted.
"Stay!" Ruby said.
"Sword fight?" Weiss asked, doing her best to replicate Ruby's patented puppy-dog eyes.
Summer sighed. "Okay you two. Five more minutes. But then it's time for bed, alright?"
"Yay!" They cheered.
The battle was on and once more, they let they imaginations run wild.
Captain Ruby Rose faced down her archrival, the pirate queen, Captain Weiss Schnee, sword drawn.
They encircled one another, sizing each other up. Then, with a shout, Captain Ruby darted forward.
Captain Weiss echoed with her own cry and ran forward as well.
Swords clashed in epic battle.
It was another bath time brawl, and who knew who would be victorious this time?
