Disclaimer: I do not own My Hero Academia nor do I own Naruto.
Since he was born, Shoto felt he always knew his father was the #2 hero: Endeavor. The Flame Hero. The Hero only behind All Might. Todoroki Enji was a shadow of that said hero, neither tangible nor visible at any given day, yet Shoto could, without fail, feel he was there.
….Until that man disappeared. He vanished like a wisp of smoke, leaving behind nothing but a pile of ash and a figure that was always second best. Shoto never thought the day would come. Not when he was beaten to the ground. Not when the contents in his stomach were forcibly put back out. Not even when thoughts of ending it all with a blade ran through his head.
Like his sister, he had had faith. Faith that his father would snap awake and start playing the role he was supposed to be doing.
But now, no matter how hard he blinked, or rubbed his eyes, there was only Endeavor. Shoto was still five; he dearly wished for a man that he could depend on. He wanted to be like every other kid in the neighborhood. He wanted to believe the shadow still lingered. He wanted to see a little crack of light.
But how could he when his mother was gone because of him?
"Did you see that? He took that villain out with one punch!"
Showa's brother bounced happily on her mother's lap, joyful eyes fixed to the television. Showa wished to do so as well, but the laughing hero behind the screen did little to draw her attention.
The little girl could only stare at her mother.
Showa felt as if there was a shadow over her mother, and the small, empty smile the woman gave her son did nothing to make it disappear. Something was wrong, and Showa desperately wished to know why. Was it father again? Did something happen last night? She had been exhausted from training, and was unable to stop herself from going into a deep sleep. But she was sure it had been quie—
"Naruto!"
Showa jumped as an instant chill filled her body. She gave her twin a questioning look, which he returned with a pout.
"I will never understand why you only react to that weird nickname," he said.
"It's not weird, it's creative." Showa defended, crossing her arms. "Why were you calling me in the first place?"
Shoto gave her a weird look, before replying, "Mom was trying to talk to you, but you didn't respond."
"Showa," their mother said. And not for the first time, Showa could detect a slight coldness in her voice. "What were you thinking about?"
"Just training," she murmured. "Father is finally taking me seriously, so I get tired more now."
It eased Showa when Endeavor had finally turned his attention to her. Not only was Shoto receiving more free time, Showa could finally train her little body in earnest. She still could barely move as she had in her previous life, but Showa was finally beginning to see herself grow apart from her age group. Stronger, faster, more powerful. Everything she needed to save those she could.
"Why don't you go take a nap? I'm going to go call someone," said Rei, removing Shoto off of her lap. He tilted his head curiously at his mother, then returned his gaze to the television. Showa continued to watch her mother suspiciously. Something was definitely out of place.
"Shoto," she said once her mother had left for the kitchen. "Don't you think something is wrong with mom?"
"A little," the boy said nonchalantly, his eyes never leaving the screen. "She seems tired."
"Really?"
"Just a bit."
He stopped speaking, and Showa finally turned to look at the television as well. It was All Might on today like it was every other day. To be frank, Showa had mixed feelings towards the hero. She half-admired him for what he was and what he represented. All Might saved more lives than almost any other hero out there, and could smile away a frown any day. He was so much like Naruto, that Showa could only find herself drawn to him.
But that same reason was why another half of her resented the hero. That joyful part of her had died long ago, and she found herself unable to understand how he could possibly smile like that. Perhaps it was the war, or perhaps it was Todoroki Showa and not Naruto. After all, she was not wholly Naruto.
"Showa," Shoto said, rubbing his eyes. "I'm going to go get water."
Showa immediately got up on her feet, shoving away bittersweet memories, "I'll go with you."
The two ambled along the hallway until they reached the kitchen, and it was then that Showa realized something was wrong, or rather, a little off. Her mother's voice was muffled, and Showa could discern that a hand was covering her mouth.
She turned to grab Shoto's wrist, but it was too late.
Her brother stood frozen at the door, and Showa walked to where he stood cautiously.
"I'm going crazy," her mother murmured. "The twins… she… him… they're just like him."
"Mom?" Shoto asked.
Their mother suddenly whipped her head around, eyes wide with horror. The phone she was holding dropped silently to the floor, the kettle in her hand deafening any other sound. For a moment, nobody moved, and time stopped. But it slowly began to unfreeze, then Rei's arm swung back, and the next thing Showa knew, burning water was flying toward her brother.
Then the world finally began to move, and Showa turned to shove her brother to the ground. Hot, scorching liquid splashed on her face and neck. The water slowly dribbled down to her shirt like lava, drenching it. Pain lanced up her entire body, spreading like fire. It was only Showa's self-control, and her experience with fire, that she was able to clamp up her urge to scream.
Shoto sat on the ground, unharmed, with a haunted look over his face.
Before her mother could say anything, Showa felt her lips moving.
"What in the world are you doing?! You could have burned Shoto!" The words tumbled out of her mouth, unintentional, but Showa could not stop herself. No, Naruto could not stop Showa. Todoroki Showa, on the other hand, was enraged. It was like something had snapped in her. A worn rope that could no longer hold itself together. A large piece of glass that had been cracking for some time and finally shattered.
She glared at her mother, who flinched. There was regret in her eyes. A mother's fear as well.
Rei moved forward, a stream of apologies coming out as she reached her arms toward the twins, activating her quirk in an attempt to lessen the pain. Naruto, who had already forgiven her, wished to go into the warmth of her arms, but Showa stood her ground. She slapped back her mother's hand and stood defensively in front of Shoto. Showa suspected she looked much like her father in that moment, for her mother tumbled backward in terror, large tears rolling down her face.
It was only when Endeavor finally came and pulled the twins out of the house when Showa finally realized what had exactly happened. Shoto was spewing out curses at his father in-between guttural sobs. Remaining alone at the corner of the empty room, Showa stared down at her hands. They had pushed her mother away. A mother she had finally been given after living a lifetime without one. Her kind, beautiful mother was gone, and it was her fault.
What had she done?
A/N: Hi. So basically, I died then rose from my grave just to upload this chapter.
I'm kidding ofc :P. I had a bunch of stuff to do (as a high schooler) and could not find the motivation to write another chapter. I'm sorry if some things are inaccurate, but it's a fanfic.
Anyway, I'm actually so sorry that I didn't upload for a year (wow!). I probably won't upload the next chapter soon... sorry.
Thanks for the reviews, favorites, and follows!
