Voldemort had been powered again and was back in full force. During their fifth year, he had already killed hundreds of innocent people, including Oliver Wood, the former Quiditch captain for Gryffindor. (NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!) Of course Peter Pettigrew--a.k.a. Wormtail--was behind He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named all the way.
Many of the out-of-work aurors had gone back and signed up to kill Voldemort, thus starting a full on war with Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
It seemed as if decades had gone by since their last year at Hogwarts. How those memories were dear to her heart! Harry had been in love with her since the trio's sixth year, and it took some persuading to finally get her to love him in return. Hermione could remember their graduation night, Harry went to Hermione's dorm room and intended to ask her to marry him. He also had a piece of very bad news.
"Herm?" Harry called from the stairs.
"Harry? Is that you? What are you doing in the girls' dorms?" Hermione asked rather startled.
"I...I...I..." Harry began.
"You..."
"I...I wanted to ask you something. Umm, you better sit down." Harry pulled over the covers on Hermoine's bed and sat Hermione down with him. She didn't know what to expect
"Well...you know about the war going on with Vol--You-Know-Who?" It had been seven years and Harry still didn't understand why people didn't just say his name.
"What about it? Oh, Harry, don't tell me..." Hermione said with tears in her eyes.
"I...I have to go. I can't just stand aside and let the aurors do their work without me. They need all the help they can get. Oh, I'm so sorry." He noticed that Hermione was crying with her face buried in her pillow.
"Harry...you...you're too...young!" She tried to say through her sobs. This was the Boy Who Lived! There was no way she was going to let him die! "I can't let you go. No!" At this point Hermione broke down again.
"Oh Herm. I know." It hurt Harry to see Hermione like this. She almost never cried. The last time she cried like this was when Ron almost died, and that was three years ago. He started rubbing her back and pulled her up to a hug. They stayed like this for a while and Harry pulled away slowly and cupped her chin in his hands and wiped away her tears with his thumbs then said, "That's why I wanted to ask you one question." He got down on his knees and she gasped, while a little grin appeared through her hands over her mouth. "Would you be my wife before I go?"
Hermione didn't even have to consider it. She threw her arms around him and whispered a tiny little "yes" and kissed him as if it was their last kiss ever, and leaned back on the bed.
