Here is the entry for Day 2! I didn't know where this one was going until I sat down and wrote it. These two like to just make me suffer and write their own stories. So rude lol. You can also find me on AO3: EchoHuntress
Day 2 - Black (Malice; Mourning & Misfortune; Dignity & Formality)
Being inside this creature from hell was overwhelming and frightening. On a good day, she was afraid of spiders. Actually being in a giant one that was filled with miasma, while trying to locate a fabled jewel and her lost companions, and destroy the evil Naraku felt impossible.
If terrifying was what Naraku was going for, he had just about succeeded. It would have been pitch black if she hadn't been able to see youki glowing in the spider cells that surrounded her. Like a gift from the gods, Sesshoumaru had swooped in, the eerie green of his youki lighting up what was once dark and frightening.
It didn't look like anyone else had heard it but Kagome could not only hear them but feel the souls of the demons that Naraku had devoured in his bid to become the strongest. They cried out to her, wailing their sorrows with every step she took. Kagome couldn't make out specific words but she felt every emotion that had been captured with those stolen souls.
Malice. Hatred. Revulsion. Regret.
Sesshoumaru noticed her distraction and the fluctuation of her reiki and wrapped her in his mokomoko to help ward off whatever her mind was being attacked by.
His ruff bristled initially after wrapping around Kagome but once she recognized what held her, her reiki calmed enough that they could travel without issue.
"Thank you, Sesshoumaru."
"Do not thank me for doing my duty." She thought he meant protecting her so she could reclaim the jewel. He meant the duty of protecting his future mate.
Once Kagome's soul had been unsealed and Naraku had been put to rest, they watched his outer shell fall before dissolving. As the spider carcass disintegrated from Bakusaiga's power and Kagome's purification, hundreds of thousands of darkened spirits poured out of what remained of Naraku and headed straight to Kagome - the brightest source of light and life.
Inuyasha was unconscious, Sango and Miroku clung to each other. Sesshoumaru raced to Kagome, pulling her back against his chest for safety while extending Tenseiga to shield her with. Kagome slid a shaky hand over Sesshoumaru's steady one and she poured compassion and empathy for the lost creatures into the demon sword.
Every soul that was drawn to her light did not make it past Tenseiga's blade. Instead, once they made contact, the souls became shimmering pearlescent particles that floated away on the winds of hope and change. Once the last of the dark souls was purified and blessed, Kagome sagged against Sesshoumaru, welcoming his constant strength and burrowing into his embrace for rest.
Her right hand remained on Sesshoumaru's striped one which still gripped Tenseiga's hilt tightly while her left hand slid up his neck and rubbed the base of his head.
"It's over."
Sesshoumaru pulled his sword arm around Kagome's middle, holding her close, while his lips made their way down the crown of her head and over her shoulder.
"It is done."
In his newly returned left hand sat the jewel of four souls, glistening with power - her power - and waiting for its fate to play out.
