Chapter 6: An Unexpected Guest

If somebody had told Ibaraki that she would be running around like a headless chicken dodging the attack of over a thousand spirits after killing one before having lunch that day, she would've punched them hard in the face.

As it was, the Hermit could do nothing but continue dodging and fighting back against the many angered spirit orbs, the wisps of darkness seeping from her bandaged arm coated most of her body and helped her to one hit kill the pesky little things but where one died, ten more took its place.

At least the occurrence of this day didn't reach the top ten strangest things she had been involved with in the last month, so she had going that for her, which was nice.

Now if only the maiden would hurry up.

"Oi! Maiden, what's taking you so long!" The hermit shouted after impacting feet-first into two spirits orbs and shattering them on impact.

"Just a bit more!" Came the voice of the equally stressed maiden from behind her "Found it!"

"Good, now what!?" The hermit shouted again, chancing a glance at the Maiden.

"Get down!" Reimu shouted, punching the thing she had been looking for as hard as she could towards the hermit direction.

The Hermit eyes widened at the oncoming round projectile that turned two times bigger after being hit by the maiden, Ibaraki wasted no time and threw herself on the floor as the massive round object passed through the place, she had been a second earlier.

The sound of hundreds of spirit orbs above her shattering reached her ears and she turned around to look towards the round object continued its path of destruction before seemingly stopping in place mid-air.

"Get back here you piece of-" The Maiden words were cut short by the Object obeying her will, returning with a speed twice fold of what it had initially and forced the maiden to throw herself to the floor lest she get hit by the thing too.

The round object continued its new path of decimation, murdering the spirit orbs in a straight line before stopping once more and leaving all the annoying spirits quiet.

Finally, with the moments respite, the Hermit could try and understand just what the hell had the maiden tried controlling and used to destroy so many spirits.

It was the Ying and Yang orb she had seen earlier when the door was open earlier.

The crack that had been on the sky suddenly cracked and from within an annoyed otherworldly growl could be heard which made the spirit orbs seemingly tremble before returning to the crack from where they came from.

Out of the thousands that had initially tried to assault the two, only a couple hundred remained after the Ying-Yang Orb massacred them.

Both Maiden and Hermit stared at the crack as it closed once more, leaving the sky as if it was never there to begin with except for the now destroyed Shrine and the field around them.

"Huh, weird. It took a lot more last time to get rid of them" Reimu huffed, wiping the sweat off her forehead.

The Hermit tilted her head curiously at that but there were more important questions to ask first, like the Ying-Yang Orb she was pointing at "What is that"

Reimu deadpanned "A Ying-Yang Orb, ain't it obvious?"

The Hermit grabbed the Maiden by the cheeks, pinching them "You cheeky brat"

"Fuhlease me!" Reimu bit the Hermit's fingers who quickly dropped her "It's exactly that, now are you going to help me fix this mess or w-"

Another crack appeared, this time about three meters in size and right in front of the bickering duo.

The Hermit prepared for another fight, but the Maiden immediately recognized the signature form of travel of her caretaker though the first to appear was not him, instead it was the sister-like figure of her life that walked out of the crack with her usual smile in place.

"Reimuuuu~ I'm back!" Hecatia sign-sang as she strolled through the crack but paused when she saw the wrecked shrine "What did you do this time!"

"It wasn't me, those little spirits came back again and brought something bigger!" Reimu shouted back annoyed but still greeted the supposed goddess with a hug to her waist.

What, she was still a growing child!

"Oh" Hecatia blinked, patting the child's head as she looked around and noticed the two most prominent things.

The Hermit and the Ying-Yang Orb still floating behind the wrecked Shrine.

"Did you manage to use the Ying-Yang Orb?" Hecatia curiously asked, staring down at the maiden and purposefully ignoring the now tense Hermit.

"Yeah, just a bit. Still tried to wreck me along with the Spirits though" Reimu grinned childishly before scowling "I'll get that piece of sh-"

"I swear to Juubi that if you finish that sentence, I will spank you until both your cheeks are redder than my own hair, understood?" Hecatia eyes and lip smiled but there was no love in them.

Reimu shut up, nodding.

"Either way, the fact that you managed to control it even if it was for a second is praiseworthy, neither Juubi nor I expected you to be able to do so until the next year" Hecatia praised the maiden which caused the girl to joyously smile again.

As the Maiden and the Goddess continued talking back and forth, the Hermit watched with trepidation.

The Hermit could feel the monstrous power that the red-haired woman held and even her own incredibly strong power was eclipsed by the red-haired woman's own. To make things worse, she knew who that woman was, or at least knew what they called her in Hell.

"The Strongest Stray" Ibaraki spoke out loud by mistake and the red-haired woman eyes instantly glanced towards her, power quietly surging behind her now shining irises.

"And who might our guest be, Reimu?" Hecatia tilted her head, only barely holding back her power because the Maiden had yet to deem the thing standing there as someone bad.

"Dunno, she said her name's Ibara and wanted to meet you and Juubi" Reimu shrugged her shoulders, finally releasing the red-haired goddess and scratching her head exactly like Juubi uses to "Man, this place is a mess"

Hecatia took a deep breath, reigned in her power and gave the now dubbed Ibara a simple courteous smile "Welcome, how did you find this place?"

The Hermit didn't let her guard down but at least lowered her arms to show she didn't intent to start a fight "I'm a wandering hermit and well, I wandered here…"

Hecatia tilted her head at that 'Is that one of the ways you can arrive here that Ju-kun mentioned?'

"Reimu says you wanted to speak with us?" Hecatia crossed her arms under bust, pushing the sizeable bosom upwards and almost spilling it from its cloth bounds.

"I take it you're Heca-nee?" The Hermit wanted to crawl under a rock and hide under the intense stare of Hecatia who nodded affirmatively at her question "And Ju-kun is…?"

The crack behind them crackled again.

"Why don't you ask him yourself, Hermit" Hecatia giggled as she turned around and prepared to tackle-hug the now appearing Juubi from the crack in his miniaturized form "Ju-kuuuun~~~"

Hecatia's head was instantly grabbed by a hand bigger than her own face, stopping her and keeping her at bay as the 3-meter tall ten tailed fox finished walking from the crack which closed behind him.

"Not now Hecatia" Juubi glanced around, tapping into the ? and understood what had happened, he glanced at the now fearful Hermit as the woman trembled like a twig under a severe windstorm "What could one such as you be doing here?"

"I-I-I"

"Ah I see, you got lost again" The Juubi chuckled which caused the Hermit to furiously nod her head, the Juubi released Hecatia's face and pointed it at the wrecked shrine before snapping his fingers.

The three women stared as the destroyed building and terrain seemingly ceased to exist, there was a second of darkness in the place where the damaged things used to exist before reality seemingly shattered.

The Shrine and terrain around them were restored.

"Would you like a cup of tea before being sent off, Ibara?" The Juubi asked as he picked up the quiet Reimu and handled the maiden to Hecatia who knew she would be scolded for allowing their home to be destroyed.

Again.

"N-"

"I insist" The Juubi grinned far too wide, walking past the terrified Hermit and entered the now restored Shrine. He sat cross-legged at the table with two tea cups visible from the outside.

Ibara dearly wished to curl up and cry as the Strongest Stray pushed her towards the open room, sitting the terrified Hermit with her back against the open door before leaving Juubi and Hermit alone.

"You have nothing to fear child, I've seen you were truly lost when you wandered in here" The Juubi gruffly said as he placed his chin on the top of his palm and stared passively at the Hermit who still couldn't speak properly.

"Come now, I'm sure one such as yourself is thrilled to see me again, no?" The Juubi snorted.

"Hai… It's been a long time Juubi-san" Ibaraki bowed her head.

"Much better, tell me how fares the outside world?"

"I am not certain, after the creation of the barrier I've been wandering"

"I see"

"May I know why the Strongest Stray and the Hakurei Maiden are residing with you?"

"Has that senile turtle not announced my plans to the Sages yet?" The Juubi tilted his head "Oh, you've not heard the news I see, the Maiden's village was razed by vengeful Youkai and the Hakurei line would've been lost if not for my interference"

Ibara eyes widened at the revelation, youkai attacking the Hakurei village? When!? How did Yukari allow something like that to happen!?

"I do not know neither do I care, I simply acted on my whims and one thing led to another" The Juubi snorted again, reading the Hermit's thoughts "Perhaps asking the source of your thoughts would answer the questions you have"

Ibara nodded, not surprised that the Ten-tailed fox had read her thoughts and made the mental note to visit Yukari at the earliest opportunity.

"Questions aside, you have my gratitude for helping the Maiden deal with those Spirits. Tell me, is there anything you wish for?" The Juubi offered, opening the palm of his hand on the table from which miniature Ying-Yang orb floated.

Ibara sputtered in surprise "No, no, no, no you do not have to go out of your way to thank me like that Juubi-san, I merely did what was right at the time!"

The Juubi snorted "Is that so?"

"Yes!" Ibara quickly nodded her head.

Accepting his offer would've been akin to making a deal with the Christian Devil, even if it was offered in good nature.

"Still, it really is surprising to see you again Juubi-San. I didn't expect such an occurrence to happen for at least another four hundred years" Ibara scratched her cheek with her bandaged arm.

The Juubi merely nodded back, tilting his head to look at the door from which Hecatia and Reimu had left earlier.

"Do you plan returning back to Gensokyo?" Ibara dared asking.

"No" The Juubi instantly replied back "I'm merely preparing the Maiden to be fit for her duties as the Hakurei Maiden"

"Is that what you really want?" Ibara asked, in for a penny, in for a pound.

"There's nothing that I want" The Juubi snorted.

Ibara gave him a troubled smile "I find that hard to believe Juubi-san"

The Juubi sighed as he recalled having a similar conversation with Hecatia, what was it with the women in his long life not believing his words?

"Beliefs are not something I concern myself with"

Ibara crossed her arms and pouted "You used to be more fun"

"Oh, I can think of a couple of things I can do to make you have fun" The Juubi grinned and Ibara instantly backpedaled.

"Nonononono, you don't need to. You're fine the way you are, thank you very much!"

The ten-tailed fox stood up, a playful grin dancing on his snout as he approached the now scuttling backwards Hermit until her back with the wall and he stood over her.

"Mercy?"

Reimu and Hecatia were back outside in the garden where the Ying-Yang Orb was still levitating.

"How did it feel being able to move the orb?" Hecatia asked with her arms crossed.

"Like a piece of me was moving around but I couldn't control it properly" Reimu replied frowning,

"But you could feel it, right?"

"Yes, and it was weird"

"Would you like to try again?" Hecatia poked the orb which made her finger sizzle, and the goddess quickly pulled the digit back.

"If something goes wrong, you're at fault" Reimu instantly covered her bases, not wanting to deal with an angry Juubi whatsoever.

"Don't worry, we won't practice here" Hecatia grinned, pulling on the chain levitating from her choker which quickly extended and took the shape of a door "Go ahead, I'll be watching"

Reimu fished the Gohei from inside her clothes and started pushing the Ying-Yang Orb towards the door which broke apart the moment the orb touched the construction and only the frame remained.

Hecatia tsk'ed, knowing the little squirt did that intentionally.

Reimu continued pushing the Orb until it passed the frame and stopped just shy of passing herself "Where am I going?"

"To take revenge" Hecatia gave her a fanged grin that was instantly mirrored by the young Maiden who wasted no time dashing past the portal.

Hecatia waited for a couple of seconds more before entering herself.

Reimu walked through a tunnel with walls made of everchanging multicolor lights for a couple of minutes before she saw the white light at the end of the path which she quickly ran through.

The light blinded her for a second before she recovered her sight and scanned her surroundings.

The sky was a mix of purple with dark clouds that had rays of lights shinning in two different directions at once almost as if the light was being reflected by a mirror midway.

The ground was a mix of dirt and crumbled rocks that extended for as far away as she could see, only one or two broken stone pillars adorned the deserted habitat.

Reimu willed the Orb to her side which complied and floated next to her just as voice echoed across the dimension.

"WHO DARES INTRUDE UPON MY DOMAIN!"

Reimu covered her ears at the loudness of the voice, glaring at the skies that rumbled under the power of whoever was speaking.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS"

The ground trembled beneath Reimu feet, and she jumped away as dozens upon dozens of Spirits Orbs suddenly blasted from beneath the ground.

Reimu fixed the sleeves of her kimono as she stared at the angered spirits. She felt Hecatia's power flow through her for a second before the sensation faded away.

The Ying-Yang Orb power suddenly flared and Reimu felt her connection to the Orb being strengthened, the Maiden grinned.

"It's payback time!" Reimu shouted.

The Maiden slapped the side of the Orb with her Gohei which sent the ball flying towards the Spirits that tried to get out of the way but failed as the Orb was faster than them.

Reimu felt the Orb reach the max range from which she could control it and willed it back towards her, the Orb responded in kind, flying back towards her at the same speed. The Maiden frowned when the Orb made no signs of slowing down as it came closer.

"You piece of-"

Her words were cut short as she had to slap the Orb again with her Gohei lest it crash onto her, once more the Orb flew towards the Spirits which finally started fighting back.

The Spirits spat glowing balls of energy at the Maiden who quickly dodged to the side, willing her Orb back again and slapping it once more.

The game of cat and mouse between her, the spirits, and the Ying-Yang Orb continued as the Maiden slowly advanced forward taking her revenge on the spirits for always messing with their home.

Everything that the Orb touched disintegrated on impact, including the stone pillars she had seen earlier.

The Maiden continued forward, the scenery around her changing ever so slightly as thick purple fog started rolling in, making it incredibly hard to see for her but seemingly didn't impede the Spirits from accurately firing at her.

Reimu annoyance grew as more spirits appeared after she passed an intact red colored Torii Gate from which laughter suddenly echoed.

Laughter that she recognized.

A ray of light shone right in front of her as a ball with a similar design as the Ying-Yang Orb descended from the heavens however where the Ying-Yang Orb was black and white, this ball was black and red with cracks littering the outside.

"You!" Reimu shouted "Are you the one that sent those spirits to the Shrine!?"

"HAHAHAH"

Reimu grew even more annoyed as the ball refused to answer her and continued laughing, the maiden was almost caught off guard when the ball fired over a dozen glowing balls at her.

Reimu threw herself to the floor as the attack passed by and grind her teeth, the maiden quickly threw herself back on her feet and smashed her own Orb at the ball.

There was a resounding crack as the Orb impacted the Ball, the only visible damage received by the Ball were its cracks widening as the Orb was reflected at Reimu along with a dozen more glowing balls.

Reimu intercepted the Orb and hit it back but missed and she was forced to dodge the oncoming barrage of glowing balls, some narrowly missing her by a hairs breath and further angering the maiden.

The dance between the fake Ying-Yang Ball and Reimu continued for minutes without neither gaining the advantage until Reimu brought out the 'Heavy Guns'.

Gathering her own power as the Hakurei Maiden, Reimu hands glowed for a second before Ofuda's appeared between her fingers. A savage grin adorned the Maiden as she threw the Ofuda's at the Ball.

The fake Ying-Yang Ball cracks widened as it was pelted by the Hakurei's Ofudas, a roar of pain echoed from within the Ball before it lit up, blinding Reimu for a second.

When the Maiden regained sight, instead of the fake Ying-Yang Ball she saw someone dressed in female priestess clothing of red color, with flowing red hair, horns that made her look like a cockroach and glowing red eyes.

The Female Priestess growled in anger and raised her hand, the motion created more glowing orbs to appear in a circle above her and were quickly sent towards the surprised Maiden.

Reimu willed her Ying-Yang Orb to block the attack and for a split-second she lost sight of the Female Priestess.

That split-second was all the Female Priestess needed.

Reimu barely had time to process the laughter that came from behind her before she felt an attack hit her back, making the girl cry out in pain as the orbs threw her to the ground. The Maiden hands went towards her back, feeling the somewhat burnt clothing that protected her from receiving a more severe injury.

Reimu growled in anger, standing to her feet and fueled the Ying-Yang Orb with her newfound emotions.

The Ying-Yang Orb responded in kind, doubling its speed as it smashed the laughing Female Priestess on the side.

"Oooooooof"

The Female Priestess form cracked like a mirror and Reimu didn't let up, she threw more Ofuda at the stunned Priestess which exploded on contact and created a cloud of dust that obscured the Priestess from view.

There was laughter again as the dust receded and instead of the Priestess, there was another person standing there.

Long hair hidden beneath a blue hat like what Onmyouji wore, a white kimono top and blue hakama. The person was floating while he sat cross-legged with his hands held together in a silent prayer, his glowing red eyes glaring at the maiden.

"I did not expect to be pushed to this form!" The person spoke in a high-pitched voice, from around him dozens of glowing orbs and spirits appeared "Here I come!"

The Spirits and Orbs were sent towards Reimu who her did very best at either intercepting their attacks with her Ofudas or blocking them completely with the Ying Yang orb.

The Onmyouji laughed as he continued creating attacks and calling forth spirits.

Reimu, growing tired of the repetitive pattern chose to go on the offense and forget defense. The Maiden smashed the Ying-Yang Orb to the side and willed it to take the longer route before returning.

The Onmyouji never saw the Orb coming as it had been focused on laughing at the Maiden who had been dodging all her attacks, the Orb impacted the back of the Onmyouji head, cracking her spiritual form apart.

Like a smashed mirror, the Onmyouji shattered apart.

Reimu huffed as the Ying-Yang Orb returned to her side, the maiden wiped the sweat of her forehead and took a moments respite since the fight was finally over with the Onmyouji gone.

"YOU!" The voice from earlier echoed once more "HOW DARE THEE DESTROY MY VESSEL!"

Reimu flipped the middle finger at the sky.

"YOUR HEAD WILL BE MINE!"

The dimension around Reimu cracked apart, leaving the Maiden floating in a dark place. The Maiden panicked as she floated in the darkness however her fears were unfounded as a voice called out from behind her.

"That's good enough for now, let's go back Reimu" Hecatia picked up the panicked Maiden into her arms and brought her into a tight hug.

"YOU SHALL PAY!"

Hecatia glared at the sky? Before creating another door with her chains.

"NO, YOU CAN'T LEA-"

Hecatia waited no more and crossed the door, leaving behind an enraged being screaming profanities at the two.

"Are you okay Reimu?" Hecatia asked once the two appeared back at the Shrine's backyard, exactly from where they had left earlier.

"Yeah, thank you Heca-nee" Reimu hugged back the taller woman which calmed down her fast-beating heart.

"You did really good, I'm proud" Hecatia kissed the top of Reimu head which made the girl giggle.

"I felt your power, did you help me?" Reimu asked after some seconds of enjoying the attention given by her surrogate older sister.

"A little bit" Hecatia grinned, putting down the girl.

Reimu grinned back.

"Welcome back" The Juubi sudden greetings made the two female jump "We need to talk"

Reimu turned to Hecatia with a glare, but the older woman was whistling innocently while looking away.

"I hate you"
