New chapter up. I've been stuck in WOW land as of late, but figured I should update this story at least a little. I do have an ending in mind, but not sure how I'll get there yet. Thanks for reading.
"You're sure this message came from Theron?" Jace asked, after reading the message.
Kia nodded. "I'm sure. He's the only person I've ever said that phrase to, and it was never written in any reports for the mission. It's Theron."
Jace sighed deeply.
"Do you think we should contact Mia?" Kia asked.
"No." Jace replied, handing the datapad back to Kia. "If this really is Theron, he sent a message to you and not her for a reason, not to mention it's a message only you would understand. He did that intentionally."
Kia sat next to Jace on the couch. "I need to go, Jace. I need to set up the meeting."
Jace shook his head. "Absolutely not. I know I don't have the power to order you not to do something, but you can't do this, Kia. There's too much at risk." He placed a hand on Kia's stomach. "Too many important people at risk."
A baby kicked and Jace smiled, regardless of the topic of conversation. "Someone is active tonight."
"The baby currently hanging out on the right side likes to voice his or her opinion on things. The one on the left joins in shortly afterwards. Usually, they kick me until I decide to do things their way."
Jace gave her a quizzical look. "Is that even possible?"
Kia shrugged. "If one or both of them are strong in the Force, it's possible, I guess. I really don't have much reference on the topic beyond my own personal experience."
The baby kicked again and again.
Kia placed a hand over Jace's still on her stomach. "Okay, Okay. We'll figure something out, Love. Take it easy."
The kicking stopped.
"Wow, that's crazy." Jace said, removing his hand. He smiled up at Kia. "You called the baby Love."
"I don't know which one is kicking me or if they're taking turns, so I just call them Love. It works for either baby." Kia looked up at Jace. "Theron is your son, Jace. He's your blood and I have your blood inside me, which means some of Theron's blood is inside me, too. He's family. I need to go."
Jace sighed. It was almost a grumble. He wanted to argue with Kia, but she was right. He may not have had any role in Theron's life while he grew up, but he was still Jace's son. If this message was a call for help, it needed a response.
"Fine, set up a meeting, but I'm going with you."
Kia tried to protest, but Jace put up a hand to stop her. "I'll stay on the ship during the meeting, but me going with you is not negotiable. I will not let you do this alone. What if you go into labor on the way there or back? No, I'm going." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"You're right. If something baby related happens, I wouldn't want to be caught alone. But, you'll let me handle the meeting? If Theron found out you were with me, it might scare him off. He's obviously in spy mode right now and as you said, he contacted me for a reason."
"I won't like it, but yes, I'll leave the meeting and all its details up to you."
Kia placed both her hands on her stomach. "Did you hear that, Loves? We're going to go meet with your older brother. Please stop kicking mommy."
Jace laughed.
"What?" Kia asked.
Jace shook his head. "Nothing. Just thinking you're going to make an amazing mother."
