Chapter Two Excerpt
"Rin, are you alright?" Shirou asked as Rin's ears fluttered open and she sat up.
"I feel great!" Rin cheered happily as she jumped onto her feet. "In fact, I have never felt better in my life!"
She ran for the bathroom and stared at the mirror. What greeted her was a familiar sight, but with slight difference from what she was intimately familiar with. Her eyes shifted from red and auburn. Her hair changed between black and blonde. The changes depending on the newly blessed powers she had negotiated from her two goddesses calling her body a new home or back up form in case the gods war against humanity was lost.
Rin marveled on her shifting eye and hair color for a while with some passing interest before moving onto the golden and gem-encrusted jewelry that adorned her body. Her jewelry was absolutely beautiful. It was true that they could be ranked amongst the most beautiful jewelry to grace humanity, but it wasn't their appearance that made her eyes shine or drool in disbelief. Her jewelry was blessed with the precious metal and gems of the highest caliber that any gem-based magecraft user would dream of. These were gems and precious metals selected that benefitted the tastes and powers of a god.
Take that Luvia Edelfelt! I bet your entire treasury of gems and precious gems cannot match what I now have! Rin screamed in her mind with a great sense of victory.
"What is with your new choice of clothing?" Shirou asked half-embarrassed and partially interested.
The newly chosen host for two goddesses frowned in confusion before her face quickly turned red at her mirror reflection. She couldn't believe she was wearing such daring and revealing clothing. Her new white bra and black thongs revealed a generous amount of cleavage and her butt. If her clothing had been chosen showing off her beautiful body when Rin liked such at the beach or in the bedroom she wouldn't have minded what she was currently wearing, but that wasn't the case. Her current attire was what the goddesses have chosen as clothing of choice or what to wear during battle!
"Eep!" Rin screeched as she banished the goddesses' choice of clothing and summoned some more conservative and covering clothing.
"My, your new co-inhabitants have such a daring choice of clothing." Muramasa chuckled as he took control of Shirou. "Which Heroic Spirits have chosen you as their vessel?"
"Not Heroic Spirits," Rin shook her head. "Two Divine Spirits."
Muramasa's face hardened and he even released a hint of killing intent. "Do you know what is going on right now around Earth?" He asked in a serious tone. "If you know what is happening right now and knowingly chose to add the gods then I will have no choice but to cut you down even if you're my descendant's wife."
"Ishtar and Ereshkigal don't mean any real harm." Rin replied quickly as she felt a real sense of danger from Murumasa. "I was selected as a vessel to store part of themselves in case a fate similar to what was considered death to a mortal was to befall them."
"Muramasa! I cannot believe you threatened to kill my wife!" Shirou shouted furiously as he took control. "Rin, don't worry. Even if he is my ancestor, that doesn't mean I will let him do whatever he wishes. If he threatens you again, I will banish him from my body."
Rin smiled gratefully at her husband's words. She knew he was very serious about actually banishing Muramusa even if it meant a great deal of harm to himself to ensure her safety. It was one of the many great traits that had made her fall for him.
"There is no need to worry. Your ancestor is just thinking about what is best for you." Rin waved her hand. "Although, I am curious. Why did you mean earlier by, 'going on right now around Earth?' I cannot help but think it is related to what my Professor, Waver Velvet, was talking about before."
"Your husband doesn't know much about what is going around the world, so I will answer instead." A voice familiar to Rin spoke as the speaker entered the room.
"Professor!" Rin shouted in surprise as her Modern Magecraft Professor entered the room. "You give up the same presence as…"
"Your husband," Waver interrupted as if reading Rin's mind. He made himself comfortable in the room as he replied, "That is indeed correct. I have been chosen as the host for Zhuge Kongming."
"That is a very famous and powerful Heroic Spirit that you have become a vessel for, Professor." Rin responded in awe. "If your Heroic Spirit's legends are anything to go by, he will greatly aid you past this crisis that you briefly mentioned on the phone."
"Hmph. 'Greatly aid' is a very gross underestimate." Waver snorted. "If it wasn't for Zhuge Kongming's aid many more millions of humans would have gone missing or lost their lives, the population centers and territory we lost to the gods and phantasmal species even greater."
"You're not the only tactician and strategist that is helping coordinate the human war effort," said Reines El-Melloi Archisorte in a very arrogant tone.
"My finance is the host for Sima Yi." Waver added as he gestured to Reines.
"I am surprised Rin," Reines spoke as Rin became the center of her attention, "that you were chosen as a vessel of such a powerful and famous god such as Inanna."
"Inanna? I thought my wife was a vessel for two divine spirits." Shirou couldn't help but ask in confusion.
"Ishtar and Ereshkigal were once part of the same goddess, Inanna." Rin explained to her husband. She quickly turned her attention to Waver and Reines. "Why would you two come visit me in person when there is a global conflict to require your attention?"
"Rin, you're not the only human to be selected as a potential host for the Divine Spirits," Said Waver. "The Clocktower is getting hundreds of similar cases to you and the cases are growing as we speak. The thing that makes you unique is how powerful, influential and well known your gods are. No gods of Ishtar's calibre have been known to choose any possible human hosts."
"Your husband also gained our attention because there are very few Heroic Spirits that have the ability to singlehanded slay a god. Senji Muramasa's blacksmithing skills are also well known to rival the gods." Reines added as she looked at Shirou.
Rin stared in disbelief at her husband. She thought she had gotten more powerful than her husband thanks to blessings of Ishtar and Ereshkigal, but it seemed like Shirou had gotten another significant boost in his power thanks to his ancestor. Suddenly she felt extremely curious.
"Shirou, how can Muramasa have the ability to slay a god? That is normally an impossible task for a human, barring extreme circumstances and a very difficult thing to do even for a single Heroic Spirit. In theory several Heroic Spirits would have to work together to match the power of a Divine Spirit." Rin asked, ignoring the presence of Waver and Reines.
"Muramasa refuses to tell me," Said Shirou. "As much as I trust Waver and Reines, he doesn't know them. There is also the fact that there are several individuals that I don't know inhabiting inside them."
Rin was slightly disappointed, but she had kind of expected that answer beforehand. Noble Phantasms were trump cards and they were more potent the less the enemy knew about them.
"That also happens to include you, Rin." Shirou continued in a bitter tone.
Rin stared at her husband in surprise. "You cannot trust me?" She asked as she pointed to herself. "I know why your ancestor might not trust Waver or Reines, but why also me? I am your wife! Someone that you trust with your life."
"Did you forget about the two goddesses in your body?" Shirou asked with a sad smile. "The gods are currently enemies of humanity. Even as we speak millions of humans are fighting to survive whether against the creations of the gods or their believers."
What her husband told her shocked Rin. She mentally stared at the two goddesses currently in her mind with demanding eyes.
"I cannot guarantee that I will be able to keep your secrets." Ishtar replied with a shrug. "Currently I am a neutral party with no desires to harm or enslave humanity like so many of my fellow gods, but that may change in the future."
As Rin turned to Ereshkigal, the goddess of the dead quickly responded, "I have never hated humans, well not in a manner that I want to harm them. Although, at times I do become annoyed and angry due to my duties. Do you know how difficult it is to manage a never-ending number of human souls as a goddess of the afterlife?"
Rin contemplated the goddesses' responses.
She was relieved that Ishtar was currently neutral. The full extent of the battle between humanity, the gods and phantasmal species might not be known to Rin, but she did have some idea what could be happening given what she had already been told. If Ishtar was not neutral, she could imagine the number of human casualties might be a magnitude higher given Ishtar's power and stories about her from the Age of Gods.
Ereshkigal as Rin could so far seem more relaxed and unlikely to fight humanity. As long as humanity didn't bother Ereshkigal then the goddess of the dead would likely dutifully carry out her duties in charge of the Sumerian underworld.
"Rin are you listening to us?" Waver asked, snapping Rin out of her musing.
"I am." Rin replied as her full attention was brought back to the topic that had been happening whilst she had been mentally communicating with the goddesses in her mind. "I can understand why you and Reines are proposing that my husband and I could be envoys to the gods, but I still think that is not a good idea. Shirou and I have no experience as negotiators and it seems unwise to place such an important task on us."
"We have already thought about that and will organize the best instructors to teach you about being negotiators." Waver said with a smile as he started to explain what he had arranged to the husband and wife duo.
- O -
A pair of emerald eyes opened for the first time in nearly two millennia since the Battle of Camlann that had seen Mordred's rebellion put to an end with the leader, Mordred, killed and the owner of the emerald eyes inflicted a mortal wound.
Arturia Pendragon, Once and Future King of England, groaned as lungs that hadn't worked in centuries took in air. She messaged her head as a slaughter of memories and knowledge flooded in her mind.
"Hello, Arturia." A friendly and familiar voice greeted Arturia.
"Hello to you, milady." Arturia replied politely. "Is it Vivian, the Lady of the Lake, or Morgan le Fay that is talking to me right now."
"I am currently Vivian," the beautiful woman replied. "How are you feeling?"
Arturia was just thinking about the killer headache she had, which only got worse as time passed. She tried to sift through the unbelievable amount of data running through her brain with some success.
"What is happening to me? I feel stronger than I had during my time as King Arthur or as a Saber-class Servant, and I feel as if something inside me is changing as we speak." Arturia asked.
"Divine Spirits and Phantasmal Species are returning to Earth from the Reverse Side of the World since Gaia has started to recover from her wounds inflicted by the White Titan. They are fighting to reclaim their past positions as overlords and apex species of Earth from humanity." Vivian explained the present situation of Earth. "As for your experience of feeling change inside you. It is a result of a legend that prophecies your return in England's darkest hour to save the day. You are being worshipped as a god as we speak to save Britain, undergoing a process of transformation into a Divine Spirit."
Arturia raised a brow after hearing that particular legend. She was about to ask about her ongoing transformation when Arturia was struck with the pain as if she was being torn apart. Before she could say anything, Arturia's body broke apart into motes of light and gathered into seven growing balls of light.
"Oh, my…" Vivian said in shock as she saw seven copies of Arturia manifested, each identical in appearance save for their equipment. "Did you just break apart and reform into seven beings remarkably similar to the 7 Servant Classes of the Holy Grail Wars?"
What do you guys think? Is it good? Bad? Meh?
