A Twilight to the past

Twilight/ The Original

Bella/Klaus

In a pm, a while back, someone asked me if I could write another time traveling story, if possible Bella/Klaus and I said something like: "No, sorry, no time, no inspiration..." But of course it got me thinking and I asked myself : How would I do it, IF I did it? and the idea came.

I tried to forget it, I really did because I already had plenty on my plate, but I couldn't, so here we are, with a new story. It took me a while to complete this first part due to many life event and changes, so I'm posting a first part now. Depending on how you respond to it, the second part will be bigger or smaller... I have the basic storyline written up, along with about 5000 words of the second part... Now I "just" need to write the rest down, which takes some time...

Bella is from the past, she was sent in the future for her protection when she was a baby but now she has to go back to her rightful time to meet her soulmate and reunite her father's Alpha and best friend to his son.

Bella had been back to living with her father for less than a year and already he had told her, again and again, the story he told her in her childhood. Of course she loved this story, there was time traveling, lives to be saved, a true love story, family separated... But the story wasn't finished and she didn't know why he wanted her to know it so much. He told it to her with the same fervor Billy told the young men of La Push the legends of their people.

Her mother had insisted that Bella wouldn't be staying long with Charlie, that she was coming home soon, that she shouldn't listen to what her father told her, that loneliness had made him lose some of his mind but to Bella, it sounded a bit like her mother exaggerated to make her want to stay away from her father. Wasn't she the one who told her, her entire life, that her father's tale was just a foolish story, something stupid? And why did her mother insist so much on Bella coming to see her on her birthday when she knew so well that there was school. Didn't she want her daughter to graduate?

She couldn't help but think that there was something wrong with her mother, she just didn't know what.

"Any plans for tomorrow Bells?" he asked her around dinner.

"Well, Alice has prepared a party for my birthday, even though I told her that I didn't want it... I'll probably call mom again, try to understand why she's so angry that I'm not coming... I mean, I have school, she should understand and she has the possibility of coming here herself. I just... I really don't get it. Why?"

She was nervous, she had heard her father arguing with her mother on the phone a lot these past few weeks. Renee wanted her back and Charlie kept telling her that she needed to come here, that the time was coming. She heard him telling her something about having responsibilities and that he had let her do everything her way until now but that he couldn't anymore. Bella had never heard her father so angry before in her life. She knew that it was linked to her, but she didn't know how or why.

Of course Bella had interrogated Edward and Alice but they had no idea. Edward had always had a hard time reading her father's mind, all he got was glimpses and not enough to help her understand his mind. Alice had been having troubles with her visions, and she put it on the fact that she was digging into her own past and that it was clouding her visions of the future.

"I need to speak with you, it's important... I've been putting it off, your mother was supposed to be here, I've been hoping she'd grow a pair and come but... Well, you know how she is... She doesn't want to go back, she wants to stay here... I mean she's not needed or anything, but she wanted to stop you from knowing, from going... I had to put my foot down... I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, to prepare you better, give your more time.. but Renee intervened and took you away... It's going to be a shock but it's time you knew..." Charlie told Bella.

"You're not making much sense dad..." Bella shook her head.

"I know... I can tell you now, or tomorrow, it's your choice, but it's going to be a shock either way and it's going to change everything for you." He nodded.

"Go ahead and tell me now, if you wait for tomorrow, I'll just think about what it could be and drive myself crazy with this." Bella replied and he nodded and started with his tale, hoping she'd believe him easily and that he wouldn't have to work too hard to convince her that he was telling the truth.

"It started a long time ago... I... You're going to have a hard time believing me, but knwo that it's the truth. I've always told you that we weren't from here and that one day, we'd have to go home... That day is coming, but before I do, you need to know where, and most importantly, when, home is. Now don't interrupt me please, bells. it's important." Charlie started and Bella nodded, closed the mouth she had opened to ask him what he meant with WHEN and listened to his tale.

PAST

.

Charlie was waiting outside his house with his best friend and Alpha while his wife, Renee, was delivering his child, his first born. A few other town's people waited as well, around them, but Charlie only paid attention to Ansel, his best friend for as long as he could remember.

Renee had been from another village. Unlike them she didn't have the werewolf gene and she had married Charlie not because she loved him, but because she wanted to see somehting else. She wanted to travel, change from the life she had grown in. Charlie had been her escape and even though he wasn't madly in love with her either, they got along and now, finally, she was giving him a child, an heir.

"Distract me, Ansel, I'm too nervous." Charlie asked his friend.

"Here, some ale to keep your mind calm." Ansel chuckled.

"Thanks, have you been able to see Niklaus today?" Charlie asked again.

"Yes, I have. He was trying to walk, helped up by his big brother Finnik." The tone the Alpha used to speak showed how much he loved and missed his son.

"Do you still believe she'll let you see him, get to know him, eventually?" Charlie asked his best friend.

"The more time passes, the more I doubt it but I have to keep faith... With the magic protections she's raised all around, I can't even walk in the village to speak to him or take him away..." Ansel shook his head before they were interrupted by loud cries of pain coming from inside the small house.

Renee was definitely not holding back. She had been reluctant to have a child, she wanted to remain free, but Charlie had insisted and he was the reason she had been able to get away from her parents and their own way of life, so she had eventually agreed. Now, she just wated to make sure he knew how painful it was in hope that he wouldn't ask for a second kid.

"Sounds painful." Charlie frowned.

"I heard from the women of our villge it was even more painful that a first transformation." Ansel nodded.

It took only a few more minutes before they heard the cries of a baby. The midwife eventually came, a baby in her arms and presented the little girl to her proud father.

"Isabella... Our beautiful baby girl..." Charlie smiled brightly, he was sure that he had never been so happy in his life before.

He showed his baby girl to his best friend who kissed the girl's forehead, knowing that he'd be, for her, an uncle, a second father. She'd be protected and loved, by everyone in their village. Of course, seeing her reminded Ansel how much he missed his own son, but it also gave him hope. He had always had faith in Life and Destiny. Just looking at baby Isabella, he knew, he just knew, that he'd eventually get to be with his son.

.

The next morning, Ansel came to see Charlie and Renee but he wasn't alone, he had a woman with him, a woman they very rarely saw in their village.

It was a witch, who lived with her husband and children in an isolated hut between their village and the one where Niklaus, his mother Esther and her family, lived. Most of the time, it's people who came to her, to ask her for whatever they needed and see what they'd need to give her in exchange.

"Charlie, Renee, I know you probably want and need to rest with Isabella but Ayana, the witch, needs to speak with us, she says it's important." Ansel told them gravely.

"Please, come in, take a seat." Renee said, pointing to chairs.

"Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, she has a big destiny ahead of her, which is why I'm here." Ayana declared.

"I thought you said this had to do with Niklaus?" Ansel asked her with a frown.

"It does. You see, Isabella and Niklaus are soul mates, destined to be together and they have a bright future as leaders in the supernatural world. I just had a vision last night, when she was born. The reason I'm here is because I'm not the only one who has seen it, Esther did too and the spirits from the other side have warned me that she'd stop at nothing to get rid of your daughter. She wants her dead because she wants to keep all of her children with her, by her side. I've seen a glimpse of the future shall Isabella die, and it's not pretty. I'm here to help you hide her until she's old enough to live out her destiny, reunite father and son and take her rightfull place with him, by his side, at the head of the supernatural world." Ayana spoke while the only sound heard in the small house was the breathing of the people in the room.

"I won't let my daughter die! I'll do anything to save her!" Charlie exclaimed while Renee hugged her daughter closer to her heart.

She hadn't wanted a child before, but now that this baby girl was here, in her arms, she coudln't help but love her. Despite the pain, and everything else, her baby Bella was worth it.

"Esther could find her anywhere we try to hide her here, but I have a plan. Hide the three of you not only in space, far from here, but also in time. We send you in the future, for 18 years, and after that a portal opens up to bring you back here, 18 years in the future for us as well. When you come back, Ansel and I will be waiting to welcome you back and your daughter will be able to accomplish her destiny." The witch declared.

"Time travel? Really?" Charlie asked doubtfully.

"The spirits will help me do the spell and they'll help you adapt to the new time period as well. They'll also help your daughter adapt to this time period once you come back." Ayana assured him.

"What about Bella? Do we train her to defend herself, to fight?" Charlie asked while Renee remained silent.

"No, you let her live her life normally, just make sure she knows of her story, her destiny." Ayana shook her head.

"What do you need?" Ansel asked once Renee and Charlie nodded their heads in agreement.

"Just all of you to be present in four days, during the second night of the full moon. The return portal will also open during the second night of the full moon following your daughter's 18th birthday." Ayana told them.

"But we'll be shifted..." Ansel frowned.

"No, the spirits will help us." Ayana shook her head.

"What time?" Renee spoke in a small voice.

"The portal will open at Twilight, always." The witch told them before she left.

.

PRESENT

.

"You're not serious, are you?" Bella asked her father once he was done telling her his story, already prepared to laugh and almost expecting her friends to pop out from behind a door to laugh with her.

"I'm afraid I am Bells, I'm sorry. You should have been told a long time ago, but Renee took you away when I was about to tell you, prepare you, thinking that she could change your destiny... She doesn't want to go back, she likes it better here and she believes you'd be happier here, she doesn't understand that having a soul mate, being able to spend forever with him..."

"Forever?" Bella asked her father.

"Of course. You and I have the werewolf gene Bella, Ansel was, or is, my Alpha, I was his second, his Beta. I triggered my curse a long time ago when I turned 14. You also have the gene in you, but you won't become a werewolf unless you cause someone's death directly." her father explained.

"What if someone came after me, wanting to kill me, and someone else killed him to save me, would that count?" She asked her father.

"No, not unless you asked that person to kill him, why?" He asked her with a frown and so Bella decided to trust him and tell him what had happened in Phoenix a few months ago.

"I knew they weren't human, but they're not the same kind of vampires that Esther's children became." Charlie shook his head, telling his daughter about the differences in the two kind of vampires.

"Wow... But, what about Edward?"

"I know you care about him Bells, and he cares about you, but he's a love, Niklaus is your soul mate, your one true love. The one you're destined to spend forever with. Niklaus became a hybrid, half Original vampire and half werewolf. You're supposed to become like him."

"It's destiny... Wait, does it mean that I'll have to kill someone? I don't want to be a murderer..." Bella shook her head.

"You can always kill someone bad. You said the Cullen's had abilities, maybe they can help you find someone who truly deserves to die so you can trigger your curse here. Then you'll go through the first transformation during the first night, the spirits will make sure you don't change during the second night, on the third night, we'll be home, and you'll be welcomed in the pack. It will make you stronger." Charlie explained.

"I... Alright... It's good that I have a few days to get used to it, to say good bye..." Bella nodded, surprised that she wasn't feeling sadder than this about leaving Edward behind.

.

The next morning, Bella decided to skip school and Charlie agreed. She wasn't going to graduate anyway and there was no school to transfer her to in the past, so there was no point in going.

She called Alice as well, asking her to make sure everyone would be home in the afternoon, because she had a lot of things to tell them, that it was important. Alice agreed of course, even though she didn't understand what was going on. She was also confused as to why she couldn't see anything but she agreed to prepare the family none the less.

"What did you tell the school?" Bella asked her father.

"That you were moving back in with your mother." He replied.

"Alright." She nodded.

Charlie was still the Chief of Police for now and he had a lot of work to do in order to organize his departure so he left Bella alone, knowing she'd be fine. He had prepared a notebook for her over the years where he had written down everything she should know about the time they went back to. The spirits would make sure she could understand the language so she didn't have to learn it, but she still had a lot to learn about traditions, Pack Law and the way things were done. He had also written down key points in History that could be changed for a better future and it got Bella thinking that maybe she could change a few key points herself, for the Cullen family especially.

Around 1pm, Bella arrived at the house she had grown to consider a second home in the past few months. Alice welcomed her and guided her to the living room where the entire family was waiting for her, looking curious as to the reason she had asked to speak to them all at the same time.

The first thing they did was wish her a happy birthday, and she thanked them before asking them all to sit down.

"Bella, love?" Edward asked her, seeing how nervous she was.

Jasper must have picked up on something too because he looked at her with worry.

"I'm fine, don't worry... It's just... Last night, I learned a very important piece of my personal family history and... It's complicated, hard to believe even, but I have to tell you. Know that I love all of you, I have grown to consider each of you a part of my family and I wish there was another way but... Sometimes, duty is more important than anything else, no matter what my mother believes, and I'm pretty sure you'll all understand my decision." Bella started to tell them.

"You're leaving." Edward realized.

"Yes, but it's more complicated than that. Please, let me tell you the entire story before you interrupt me." She asked.

"Of course, Bella. You go on." Carlisle nodded.

Bella then proceeded to tell them everything her father had told her the previous night, and even a few details she had read in the notebook he gave her that morning. She could see that they looked incredulous.

"So, let us make sure we got everything here. You're from the past, a witch sent you here with your parents to protect you against another crazy witch that wanted to kill you because you're one of her sons' soul mate and she's apparently deranged enough that she thinks it's a good think to keep her son from his soul mate." Emmett asked and Bella nodded.

"You're a werewolf and need to trigger your curse by causing someone's death before the next full moon in order to be stronger and better prepared when you arrived in the past." Jasper added and Bella nodded once again.

"Your mother isn't coming with you? Really? She's letting you go on your own?" Esme asked, shocked.

"I called her this morning, she said that if I didn't agree to stay in this time period, she didn't want to speak to me ever again. I love her, but after everything my father told me... I have to go back, there's so many things that can be changed... Since I'm supposed to live forever as a Hybrid, I figured I'd go and see her once time catch up with itself, show her what she's missed..." Bella replied.

"You have a soul mate..." Edward repeated and Bella turned to look at him, obviously sorry.

"I'm sorry, Edward, but I hope you understand..." She started to say and he smiled a little.

"Of course I do. I always knew somehow that we weren't meant to be, that you were too good for me, now I know why. You were born to be a queen to an entire species. Born to be a queen... That'll be your rightful place in the world." He replied with a smile, making her blush.

"I'm going to need your help finding someone... To trigger my curse, I mean... With all of your gifts, surely you can find someone who deserves it and make me cause his death in a... clean way. You know, no blood or anything..." She asked, looking at Jasper, Alice, Edward and Carlisle.

"Of course. We'll do anything we can to help you out." Edward promised.

He understood and accepted that he couldn't be with her, but he was determined to do everything in his power to help her, make sure she had everything she'd need before she left.

"I wish there was another way, I don't fancy killing someone but it's necessary..." Bella added.

"Of course we'll help you, Bella." Carlisle nodded, already trying to think of potential victims for Bella.

"There's something else I wanted to talk to you about. When I go back in the past, I will obviously be able to change things. I'll reunite Niklaus with Ansel, obviously, but we'll be destined to live forever as Vampire - Werewolves hybrids and I'll be around a long time... I mean, forever, it's a long time... Long enough to change things for you if that's what you want..." Bella told them.

"You'd do that? Really?" Rosalie asked her, hope in her eyes and the hint of a smile on her face.

Until now, Rosalie had looked pretty indifferent to everything.

"If I can, of course I will. I mean, I personally think that Carlisle not changing, not becoming a doctor and living forever, would be a great loss for the world, but if you ask me to prevent something, I'll do my best to do it, even if I don't agree with what you ask of me." Bella told them.

"I... I don't want to be changed... Either let me die or make sure I can survive, or better yet, that nothing happens to me that night..." Rosalie said.

"I haven't told her that part of your story Rose." Edward reminded his sister.

It surprised Rosalie, she was so sure that he had told Bella everything about everyone...

"Why don't you write it down, along with dates and locations. It'll be easier, I have a pretty good memory but I already have a lot of new things to remember so writing everything down is the best way to make sure I don't make a mistake or forget an important detail." Bella told them with a smile.

After that, the different couples asked Bella to give them a moment to talk things out and they left the room, leaving Bella with Edward.

"Do you want me to make sure you survive?" Bella asked him.

"I'd like that, yes, live out a human life, but if you could also try to save at least one of my parents..." He asked and she nodded with a smile.

"Of course, just make sure to write down dates as precise as you can, and maybe even an address, I mean, Chicago was already a big city back then." She asked him and he nodded.

"You believed everything easily, when your father told you?" Edward asked her curiously.

"I did... My entire life I've had dreams I couldn't explain, a land I had never seen or read about, a family with secrets and lies... I even saw Niklaus a few times but when he was a child... When Charlie told me... Everything clicked. I knew, I jst knew that it was the truth. I guess the spirits that helped us come here and adapt helped me believe." She replied with a smile.

"I'm glad. I hope you'll be happy, Bella. That's all I ever want for you." He told her.

"I'm sure I will be, don't worry. And when I reach 1918, I'll make sure you're happy as well. I promise you." She assured him.

Eventually, the rest of the family came back in the room.

"Here Bella, I wrote down what happened to me, when it happened and where it happened... Please, either let me die or make sure it doesn't happen to me." Rosalie asked Bella pleadingly.

"Of course Rosalie. Whoever hurt you will also be punished." Bella smiled kindly.

"Here Bella, it's the time and place where I was attacked by the bear. Please make sure I don't die. I don't mind being a vampire as long as I'm not alone, I just don't want to die so young... Since Rose is the one who found me, I want to be sure someone will find me this time around too." Emmett asked her and she nodded.

"Of course, Emmett, and you won't be alone, you're family." Bella reassured him.

"I'd like to still be able to meet Alice... I wrote down my history, whatever you change shouldn't affect these events but in case it does, could you please make sure I end up as a vampire so I can meet her?" Jasper asked Bella.

"Of course, Jasper."

"I wrote down what little I found about me... If you could make sure I don't end up in that Asylum... and of course, that I meet Jasper." Alice smiled and Bella nodded.

"If they're willing to put you in an Asylum, we should be able to get you away from them quite easily." Bella added with a smile.

"Esme and I have decided to let things happen as they should for us. If it's meant to happen, it will happen and I don't mind this life." Carlisle told Bella.

"If you can give me an approximate year, I'll make sure you're not too lonely in your first years, I'll make sure you have friends to guide you." Bella told Carlisle who smiled softly at her and nodded, writing it down for her, along with the name of the church his father preached in.

"Do you know what you'll pack?" Alice asked Bella.

"We can't take too much with us. I'll just have a small backpack. Everything we'll need will be waiting for us back home anyway. I figured I'd take a detailed history book, to monitor what we change as it happens, paper and pens also, because it will be easier to write with than whatever was used back them. I think dad wants to take his gun and some ammunitions with him..." She replied, shrugging her shoulders.

She had already prepared a notebook with a list of authors and books she wanted to look out for, meet, buy the first edition of and she decided not to tell them, surely they'd make fun of her.

"You're right, I can't even take you shopping to prepare for this..." Alice frowned.

"On to another matter, Bella, I've been thinking... There's an old man dying of cancer at the hospital, he begged us to unplug him but his family refuses, they want to let him suffer, arguing that he doesn't have all his mind and can't make decisions, they believe he could still heal but I know he can't... Maybe he can be the one who helps you trigger your curse... Just a couple of syringes to inject into his ivy... Easy enough, not messy... And I'll be able to tell the family that his heart gave out..." Carlisle suggested.

"That's actually the best option I think." She nodded.

"We'll go tonight then, we'll pretend that you hurt your ankle during your birthday dinner and that I brought you here to make sure it wasn't broken." Carlisle suggested.

"Everyone will easily believe that." Edward chuckle, making Bella blush.

"Maybe you should pack a well furnished first aid kit when you go back in time, Bella, they didn't have hospitals back then." Emmett said with a chuckle.

"It's actually not a bad idea, though werewolves heal faster than humans according to dad so once my curse is triggered it won't be a problme but if we have to fight a witch... First aid kit might be a smart idea." Bella smiled.

"I'll prepare one for you, make sure you have plenty of everything." Rosalie offered and Bella thanked her.

"I guess the gifts we got you for your birthday are all pointless now... I mean, Emmett, Jasper and Rosalie got you a new radio for your truck, you won't need it. Carlisle and Esme got you planes tickets to visit your mother in Florida, it won't be used either were you're going... As for the CD Edward made you with songs he wrote for you, you won't be able to listen to it..." Alice frowned.

"Well, I asked you not to get me presents anyway, and it's the intention that counts." Bella shrugged her shoulders.

"Do you already have the history book you want to take with you, Bella?" Jasper asked her suddenly.

"No, I don't even know where to start looking." She shook her head.

"I'll give you one then. I have one that's pretty full and relates the history of the world over the last thousand years, more or less. I should be prefect since it's about the time you're going back to." Jasper explained before he rushed to get the book.

"Thank you." She smiled, impressed by the large and heavy book he presented her with.

A few hours later, Bella and Carlisle went to the hospital, to trigger her curse. Everything went perfectly and even though she couldn't feel it yet, she knew that the next night, a full moon, she'd feel the pain of her first transformation.

"Are you nervous?" Carlisle asked her as he drove her back home.

"A bit, I mean, dad told me that during the first change, you break every bone of your body... I mean you do it at every transformation, but it hurts less and less as time goes by. And once I'll be accepted in the pack, on the last night of the full moon, I'll be able to control it better, it's a special gift my father's pack has." Bella explained.

"Is this why you asked that Edward stayed away?" The doctor asked her.

"Yes, no point in worrying him more than necessary, I'll already have my father for that. Tomorrow night might turn him grey before his time." She chuckled, making Carlisle smile.

"I get it. Don't worry, he'll be far away, we'll take him hunting to distract him." He smiled at her.

.

"You okay, Bells?" Charlie asked his daughter the next morning.

"Yes, I'm fine. Carlisle made sure I could trigger my curse in a clean way, I just injected 2 liquid in some sick guy's ivy drip. They're all very supportive of what we're doing, it surprised me." She replied.

"That's good. But they won't be here tonight, though, right? Because it could be dangerous for them..." He warned her.

"I know, don't worry. We have no idea of what our venom would do to them, might as well stay away tonight. They understand it." She smiled.

"Don't be nervous Bells. I know the first transformation hurts and it must scare you, but we're from a strong family, a strong bloodline. I'm sure you'll be a natural at this. It's your destiny." Charlie told his daughter, guessing that she must be nervous about this.

"Well, I figure it'll be less painful than what happened to me in Phoenix when James attacked. And even if it's more painful, I survived that, I'll probably survive this too." She smiled at her father.

"You're right. My brave little girl." He smiled before going to work for his last day.

He had told everyone that since his daughter was going back to live with her mother, he was going to move there as well because he didn't want to be away from her anymore. People believed him well enough. Only his friends from the reservation Billy and Harry knew the truth.

Bella spent her day relaxing and meditating, because her father told her that it would help, and reading the books she loved and couldn't take with her yet, though she promised herself to buy the first editions as soon as they were published.

The day passed much quicker than she expected and soon, Bella was locking herself in the reinforced basement of their house, along with her father. He had explained that usually, werewolves couldn't control much of their actions when they shifted and so they locked themselves but that the wolves from their pack were in control all the time, except during the first shift. He usually ran in the woods on the full moons but this time, he wanted to be there for his daughter, to help her and guide her. He had built this reinforced basement for her, just for this occasion.

It was painful from the very moment it started, and it was long, but she had expected this. It was painful, but not unbearable. James' bite had been worst, so she was confident then even though it would be spread out for hours, she'd be fine.

.

When she woke up, Bella was naked under a blanket and she could tell it was morning by the small light that shone through the tiny basement window, barely large enough to fit a cat. Her father was nowhere to be seen but the door of the basement was opened. She had fallen asleep in wolf form, she guessed, and her father had covered her and let her sleep as soon as he had shifted back into a man.

"Dad?" she called out as she climbed the steps.

"In the kitchen. Go shower and get dressed, we'll talk after. Trust me, the hot water of the shower will help you." he told her with a smile.

"Alright." She replied, hurrying to the bathroom to clean up the sweat from the night.

It hadn't been that bad, she was used to pain and even though it had been long, she was proud of the way she had handled it. Even her father had been impressed last night and he had told her so. She hadn't screamed out when her bones broke and she hadn't cried or begged for it to stop either like many young wolves did. She had been strong.

"A true queen!" her father had called her, making her blush through the pain.

Getting out of the shower, Bella went in her bedroom to get dressed and glanced at the old dress hanging against the door. It was the dress her mother had traveled in and Bella would be wearing it tonight. She had given it to Alice the previous day, asking her to adjust it to fit her and Alice promised to drop it back in the morning, obviously she had worked well and fast.

When she arrived down the stairs, Bella saw that her father had a full breakfast ready for her.

"How did you do this? You usually can't cook to save your life!" Bella exclaimed.

"I might have asked Sue Clearwater to come over and make a good homemade breakfast for you, because it's your first shift into a werewolf and because we're leaving tonight. She dropped it off about an hour ago." he smiled at her.

"Well, remind me to thank her before we go. It's very welcome, I'm famished." She smiled.

"What do you remember from last night? Usually a wolf doesn't remember much from his first transformation except the pain, and they usually never remember what they did once in wolf form, except a few packs here and there who have the gift, like us." Charlie told her.

"Well, I do remember the pain, and thinking that it wasn't that bad, that I've had worst. I remember it was exhausting. I remember that you did your best to slow down your own transformation so I wasn't alone and when you shifted, you came by my side and gave me support the best way you could. Then I think I changed because the angle of everything changed and I guess I fell asleep." She replied.

"That's pretty much it, yes. I should have known you'd be special. You tried resisting falling asleep but you were too tired." He nodded.

"What do I look like? As a wolf I mean?" She asked him.

"In that department you're pretty special too. You're completely white. That's extremely rare, but white wolves, just like black wolves, are rumored to be very strong and powerful. True Alphas, the stronger ones, are often either completely white or completely black. There's a prophecy about a black wolf, werewolf I mean, leading our people one day with a white wolf by his side. I don't know what color Niklaus will be, but I'm pretty sure he's completely black, and that the two of you will end up fulfilling more than one prophecies." Charlie replied, making Bella blush.

"Anyway, what's the plan for today?" Bella asked her father.

"Not much, we'll leave the house as it is, eventually, time will pass and we'll be back here, we'll be able to use it whenever we want in the future." Charlie replied.

"And there's nothing I need to do in order to prepare, you're sure?" Bella asked.

"I know that you must be nervous Bella, but don't worry, everything will be fine. Just be yourself. Maybe you'd like to call your mother and say goodbye?" Charlie asked his daughter.

"She made it clear that by going back with you, I was betraying her. I'll see her later, when I'm a hybrid living forever, then I'll show her what she missed out on." Bella told her father.

"Then I guess you'll be free to spend time with the Cullen's and say goodbye... I'll be at the local pizzeria for lunch, I'm going to miss pizza so much...Anyway Bells, just make sure you're back on time." Charlie told her.

"Of course." Bella smiled.

.

Bella arrived at the Cullen's a bit later and they were all waiting for her, happy to spend some time with her. Of course the first thing they did is ask her how she was doing, how her transformation went and how she felt about it.

"So, you're stronger now?" Jasper asked her after she had quickly replied, going over it without details.

"Yes, I am. The first transformation wasn't that bad, even my father was impressed, and he's seen a lot of young werewolves during their first transformation because guiding them was his role in the pack, being the Alpha's Beta and all. I'm all white, which apparently means that I'm strong and powerful. destined to lead." She smiled.

"You want to try and see how strong you are?" Emmett asked Bella in a teasing manner, guessing she'd refuse.

"You should be careful who you challenge Emmett. I might not have any fighting experience but Charlie told me that even young werewolves were strong enough to take a Cold one on. Apparently, my grandfather killed a Cold one during his second full moon." Bella replied with a confident smile.

"But the moon isn't out." Emmett teased, pointing at the sky.

"You really want to try it out? What if I manage to bite you? Do you know what werewolf venom does to Cold One vampire? I know it kills slowly and very painfully vampires from the original kind, makes them delirious and all..."

Jasper smirked and looked interested in Emmett's decision, even Alice smirked.

"Than I guess we'll say you won that one." Emmett replied with a frown, making everyone chuckle.

"It's true what they say, I just won a fight without breaking a sweat! I am pretty strong." Bella joked, making them laugh along with her.

"Bella, we wanted to tell you something. We want to be there with you tonight. We've talked about it a lot and you said yourself that the original witch wanted you dead, she might have found a way to come back or something and we'd like to be there to protect you, make sure you and your father leave safely, just in case she makes it where you are." Carlisle told Bella seriously.

"Are you sure?" Bella asked, surprised.

"Of course we're sure." Edward insisted.

"Then I'll be happy to have you with us." Bella nodded.

The rest of the way went by fine until Bella went home with Alice. Alice helped Bella get dressed and ready to leave while the others joined Charlie, who was already ready to leave, on site. He wanted to make sure the area was secure and that nobody was waiting for them, that nobody would try to stop them.

.

When Bella and Alice arrived, they still had a while to wait but Charlie had wanted to be there early, just in case something happened. They made small talk when, suddenly, Edward said:

"Someone's coming, a lot of people."

"Vampires, original ones." Jasper added, getting in fighting position.

"Don't attack just yet. Maybe Ayana made sure we'd get protection..." Charlie called out to the Cullen's who nodded.

Suddenly, a tall young man dressed in an impeccable suit arrived, followed by about 15 other men and women.

"Don't attack, we're here to help." The man said with raised hands.

"Who are you?" Charlie asked, his gun out.

"My name is Elijah. I'm..." He replied and he was about to add more when Charlie put in gun down and talked:

"You're Niklaus's big brother! Last time I saw you, you were a toddler, kid..." Charlie exclaimed.

Bella smiled when she saw Elijah's small frown at being called Kid after over 1000 years.

"I know who you are, both of you. A witch, a descendent of Ayana, got a vision, probably sent by Ayana herself, and warned my family. My mother is back from the dead and is still looking for Isabella, she still wants to kill her. We've decided, my siblings and I, to lay traps for her and separate. Our mother would expect Niklaus to rush to help his soulmate, so we planned things well. First, we faked a very loud family argument when our mother was spying on us. I pretended that I didn't want to have anything to do with this, that it was too risky for our family and I left. She was still watching so I joined my sire line and she believed I was out, stopped watching. Then we made our way here to protect you. We daggered Finn and Kol during the fight, because a family argument isn't truly one if someone doesn't end up daggered in our family and they agreed, it was part of the plan, it made things more believable to our mother and Ayana's descendent would have undaggered them as soon as Mother was away. Rebekah agreed to help Klaus as well and so he sent her in another direction while he called his hybrids and rushed to yet another location, pretending he knew for sure he was going to you, pretending he could feel a bond pulling him to you. Our mother knows you're in Washington state but luckily, she couldn't get any more information than that. Rebekah and Niklaus are both in different places, away from here but still in the state. I've had no contact with them since I left them a few days ago, for safety measures. if something happens, they'll be able to come rather quickly of they run at full speed. We've found magic to help us be faster tonight." Elijah explained.

"Esther won't know it was a false trail until it's too late?" Charlie asked.

"That's what we hope, but I came in force, just in case. We never know with her." Elijah smiled.

"Niklaus... He accepted this?" Bella whispered with a blush.

"Absolutely. I know that this must make you worried and nervous, but don't worry Isabella. Everything will be fine." Elijah told her kindly as his vampires spread out all around.

"I have to say, I didn't expect you to have a coven of Cold Ones helping you." Elijah added.

"They're my friends, my family." Bella smiled.

"We wanted to be there to say goodbye, and to make sure everything went well." Jasper told Elijah who nodded their way.

"Bella is family, we help our family." Carlisle added with a soft smile.

"Anything specific I should know?" Bella asked Elijah.

"There are a few things, important events that should happen, other that should be prevented, hidden location of powerful or dangerous objects, along with Mickeal's favored locations, just in case he's made into a vampire hunter this time again. Everything we knew that could help is in there and..." Elijah stopped, blushing and hesitating.

"What is it?" Charlie asked.

"In the last page, I wrote a title, a book... It's going to be printed in only a few copies and... Well, if you could make sure I get one or two, just to be safe... It's a really good book, my favorite..." Elijah added shyly, making Charlie chuckle and Bella nod.

"I have a feeling that you and Bella will be good friends." Charlie chuckled.

"I'll make sure of it, don't worry. I have a book list of my own." Bella replied kindly, placing the leather protected notebook in her backpack with the rest of the things she had taken.

"Of course you do..." Edward chuckled.

"It's important!" Bella protested.

"It's almost time." Charlie said seriously after looking at his watch.

"Another thing, in this notebook, we've written a few facts we just discovered about our aunt Dahlia. She seems powerful and very angry at our mother, maybe Ayana can get you more information. Niklaus thought that, maybe, you'd be able to make a deal with her, get her help. She holds our big sister Freya hostage. Freeing Freya might allow you to bring Mickeal on your side as well, she truly was his favorite according to Finn. We've also written a few spells we discovered in the future that could help with Dahlia." Elijah added.

"Esther mentioned them both to Ansel a couple of times I think." Charlie nodded.

"I'll do my best to find her and try to get her help. I'll try to free Freya if I can." Bella promised.

"Thank you." The Original vampire nodded.

They could all feel magic happening all around them, preparing when, suddenly, a blond vampire arrived, alone and looking panicked.

"Elijah, she knows! Mother found out the truth! She managed to use a spell to read my mind. She's coming here!" Rebekah screamed and everyone got alert.

"Kill every bird you see, they're all her spies." Elijah ordered quickly and even the Cullen's listened and started working with the others to kill the mini spies.

"It's probably too late for that." Charlie shook his head.

"I warned Nik, he's on his way. Bonnie is helping him come faster with magic. Kol and Finn are letting her channel them so she has more power." Rebekah replied.

"Is she coming alone?" Charlie asked.

"No, she knows that you have a powder that would block most of her powers, she has mercenaries, spelled to obey her every order blindly." Rebekah shook her head.

Indeed, while Bella was preparing, getting dressed, Charlie had spread a powder, made of several plants, all over the floor around them. If Esther came, she wouldn't be able to come close to them.

"But the portal will open soon... She won't be here on time, right?" Bella asked nervously.

"I don't know..." Rebekah shook her head, smiling at Bella.

Her big brother's soul mate was cute, adorable. And obviously brave. One look in her eyes and she knew that they'd get along well.

"Bells, I want to make one thing clear, if she gets here on time and I can't come with you, you leave without me, alright? The most important is that you make it back to Ansel, become who you were always meant to be. If staying behind is the only way to make sure you leave safely, you leave me behind, alright? Ansel and Ayana will be waiting for you, you'll recognize Ansel, your Alpha, easily." Charlie asked seriously and Bella nodded, tears in her eyes.

"Also, Nik asked that Isabella didn't look him in the eyes when he arrives, if he's here on time. He's afraid of the consequences it could have on the past, or future I guess, connection they're supposed to have." Rebekah added.

"I get it. Connecting our souls now, falling for him now could prevent me from truly falling for him in the past." Bella nodded.

"I can't see much, but both Bella's soul mate and your mother will make it on time." Alice stated after concentrating for a while.

"Someone's coming." Jasper called out.

"A lot of people." Edward added.

"Mother is near." Elijah realized.

"She's not the only one who made it here on time! Spread out and be prepared to fight anyone who comes close. The two werewolves have to stay alive and safe at all cost. They can't get hurt." Another voice spoke out, saying the first part to his family and the second to the dozen of hybrids that had followed him.

Bella knew instinctively that it was Niklaus. He was handsome, stood tall, and was obviously a typical alpha male. She forced herself to look away from his eyes and she could see, from the side, Edward studying her soul mate as well.

"Oh my... You have to be Niklaus, Ansel's son... You look so much like him when he was younger! You have his eyes, his nose..." Charlie exclaimed.

"You're Charlie, his best friend?"

"Yes, I am." Charlie nodded and Bella realized that Niklaus was fighting the need to look at her.

"No offence Love, but I'd rather stay focus on the fight to come, so I won't look at you in the eyes before you leave." Klaus warned Bella.

"Your sister's warned us, I get it, I understand." Bella nodded and he smiled, loving the sound of her voice.

"His smile too." Charlie added, making Niklaus smile some more, happy to know that he had something of the father he never met.

Suddenly, there was a lot of people all around them.

Esther and her mercenaries had arrived from the North while Niklaus and his hybrid had arrived from the East, though they ran at a human speed, giving Bella's protectors more time.

"Don't hesitate to kill the mercenaries, because they have the power to kill any of you and they won't hesitate to do so." Elijah warned and even the Cullen's nodded.

"Anything to make sure Bella gets to the past and changes everything that's supposed to be changed." Rosalie growled, ready for the biggest fight of her life, the fight that would allow her to live out her human life, to be free of the cursed life she hated so much

Suddenly, everyone jumped in the fight and the only people Bella could really see were Esther in the back and Charlie and Esme, who were protecting her.

Everyone was fighting, Charlie had already caught a few arrows that had been supposed to hit Bella and his daughter was praying that the portal would open up soon, even though it seemed that her protectors were handling things well.

it was hard for Charlie not to jump in the fight, his very instinct told him to protect Niklaus, his best friend's son, the one who was supposed to be his future Alpha. Unable to hold back, he ended up joinging the fight and pulling Klaus out of the way of a wooden bullet that would have touched him.

"I don't matter right now, don't worry. Your daughter has to be the priority." Niklaus told him in a urging voice, understanding why Charlie was helping him.

Charlie nodded and went back to stand by his daughter's side, caching arrow and watching out for bullets.

From the side, Bella could see that Klaus had his "hybrid" face on. Elijah and Rebekah's faces were different, and she guessed that they were showing their vampire faces to be stronger while Niklaus showed his hybrid face, so he could be stronger as well.

Suddenly, an arrow grazed her shoulder and even though it didn't stay in her, she was bleeding a bit.

"Bella's hit!" Edward exclaimed, stopping his movements.

"I'm fine, hold your breath" Bella shook her head, shacking it off.

It wasn't that bad, she'd be fine in a few minutes.

"You're hurt, Bella!" Edward insisted.

"She's strong, she'll heal." Charlie and Niklaus said at the same time.

Bella smiled. Edward had always been overprotective and if she had been only human, maybe he would have been good for her but she was strong, she was a werewolf. Niklaus understood that and he obviously trusted her to fight her own battles.

As she was thinking, the portal finally started to open.

"Stop them! The girl can't make it back!" Esther screamed at the few mercenaries she still had left.

"You'll have to kill us all before you can touch her!" Edward growled.

"Like he said." Niklaus growled, both standing between Esther and Bella.

"You think you're untouchable Niklaus? Remember the little wooden knight you carved for Rebekah when she was a child and afraid of the storm? I don't know if you remember but it's made of white oak... Ancient white oak, from THE tree I used to change all of you! Luckily I found it and managed to make a few bullets out of it. There's enough for me to shout you, Elijah and Rebekah without breaking a sweat!" Esther smirked before she shot her gun at Klaus.

The first bullet hit him in the shoulder, and he wasn't able to move away to escape it because otherwise it would have hit Bella.

"Go through the portal as soon as it opens fully Bella!" Charlie warned her.

Already Esther had shot a few more times and Edward had caught a few of the bullets for his love's soul mate but one was very close to the Original hybrid's heart and already Klaus started turning grey.

"No!" Bella whispered, understanding what was happening.

"Carlisle!" Edward called, asking his father figure to try and heal Klaus.

"Too late, Bella, portal, important." Klaus managed to say before he completely fell on the ground, leaving his siblings in tears.

The portal was now fully opened and Charlie looked at his best friend's dying son with sadness.

"We'll fix this Niklaus, I promise you that. We didn't do all of this for nothing, you'll live, happily. You'll fail Esther! You'll rot in hell by the time we're done! You'll pay for this and for everything you've put Ansel through since the moment you met him!" Charlie screamed angrily at Esther before pulling Bella with him through the portal that quickly closed behind them.

As Charlie and Bella crossed the portal, Elijah snapped his mother's neck before he pulled her heart out of her chest to ensure she'd stay dead. He couldn't take the chance of her finding a way to warn her past self with a spell. He went as far as to make sure no insect or bird would come through the portal before it closed.

TRIP BACK TO THE PAST

.

I'm labelling this story as complete, but it isn't. This is a first part of the story. The next part will be here, in Chater 2, when I manage to finish it.

The rest of the story will take longer for me to write, and since this is the first part, I chose to temporarily end it here and post it.

Usually, posting the beginning of the story and getting reviews helps me getting inspired and finishing a story. Like I wrote earlier, the storyline is written, all there is left is to put it together, write it all, find the details... And life often gets in the way.

I hope you liked it anyway.

Review please?
