So, reason why it took so long? I was sick. That straight-up drained all motivation away from me during that time but now, I'm back and feeling well. Along with a (somewhat) clear idea on how I should proceed. But expect me to take time in writing the coming chapter with how little I have for the moon phase.
Disclaimer: ...well, guess it's time to go with I do not own Hinata then? But well, I don't own the show, or manga.
When the light sprung to life, she was blinded.
When the light began to fade, Hinata saw images.
Two sides. An empty battlefield, littered with men and armed. One side charged while another gave an order to activate the tenseigan.
It wiped out the entire opposite side in a matter of seconds. And then, her vision seemed to change.
She saw the graves. But one after the other, she saw them replaced with the people who she realized, were likely the ones who'd died from that battle.
An entire army stood in front of her, along with the very man who'd used that orb, just in a much better state. And then, he stepped forward and spoke.
''We are descendants of Hamura. We belong to the main family of the Otsutsuki Clan. We were annihilated by the branch family who was twisted in the interception of Hamura's Celestial Decree.''
So they were the main branch family members. All dead?
''Toneri, a descendant of the branch family, is attempting to make the moon fall into the earth using the power of the Tenseigan.''
She already knew that. She already did and yet, this for some reason made her realize how worse this situation was. How much more dire it was.
''Only you can destroy the Tenseigan, Byakugan Princess.''
And then, everyone bowed down, stepping aside to leave a pathway open. And to her complete and utter surprise, the man stepped away in a bow and from thin air, he appeared.
''You are... Hamura Otsutsuki.''
He looked older than the depiction Toneri had showed her, but it was him. He nodded in confirmation.
''Byakugan Princess. I know what has befallen to the world my elder brother created and what my mother has done. Yet, I ask you, to not let his world come to an end.''
She had no intention of giving up on Earth, or what was left of people on it. If she did now, then she didn't know what she'd do with herself.
''But what am I supposed to do? Toneri doesn't seem to be fully on board destroying Earth so long Kaguya's there, but on the other hand, she now has an entire army of White Zetsu's, all of them seem to have been enhanced compared to the normal.''
It felt like she was stuck between 2 hard lines. With no escape. Because Kaguya seemed to have enhanced the Zetsu's into something... more, than just footsoldiers. Her Clones had witnessed how some used Jutsu's only fit from specific clans, like the Nara's. And Hinata herself had seen White Zetsu's with Byakugans.
''You are in a hard situation, and I realize that. It is why I do have some good news for you. Do you know how the Tenseigan is supposed to be awoken?''
''I... don't.'' Toneri had somehow unlocked it by transplanting what was Hanabi's Byakugan into his eye socket. More, she didn't know.
''To awaken the Tenseigan, the Byakugan requires a similar type of Chakra as mine. Specifically, Otsutsuki chakra. Something you seem to actually have.''
She needed-
''What?''
Had she heard that right? Already have?
''But... that's not possible?''
''It is. You have Otsutsuki Chakra, as small as it is, and I would recognize it anywhere.''
His face turned grave as he spoke.
''I am ashamed to say I am not sure how you received that small portion of mothers chakra.''
Mothers... she had Kaguya's chakra?! Her surprise was very visible.
''Calm down please. I myself am unsure about how you received it, but this isn't the matter at hand. What is, is that even with that small portion, it won't be enough to awaken the Tenseigan.''
She was just going to let him talk while she calmed down.
''It is why, I will give you all of my chakra so that you can awaken the tenseigan. Byakugan Princess, you are the only one who can stop Toneri in his tracks before he commits a mistake.''
''I... I want to stop him. And your mother as well, but... how exactly am I supposed to awaken the Tenseigan? I just... let your chakra flow?''
''In a sense. You need to first have mine and your chakra synergized. Mold them together to be like they were always there and not something simply given. Then, and only then will your Byakugan be able to even consider its evolution to match a Rinnegan's power.''
Hinata felt speechless. This... she was so close to being able to change this. At least do something that mattered and not some kind of failure of rescuing. She could stop Toneri.
She could do it. And all she needed to do for that, was to wait and let the Chakra meld with hers.
Honestly, she felt happy about this. Her chance would come. And even though it was late, she could make this work. She could make something right.
She smiled at him, and he seemed happy as well. Maybe he could tell?
''I ask you, not as you being a descendant or even the Byakugan Princess, to please stop Toneri and my mother from their plans.''
''I will.''
He nodded.
''Thank you. Now, let me tell you how the Tenseigan actually awakens...''
When Hinata returned to consciousness, it was on a cold ground. Along with the feeling of something foreign inside of her.
Raising her head, she saw the body of the man who'd... given her that vision. And Hinata knew what to do.
She left the place entirely and walked outside. Only stopping once she was out of the graveyard entirely.
She could feel it. Hamura's Chakra was already going to work by doing its first step. Melding itself with her own Chakra so that she could use it. So that it could be used to form the Tenseigan.
And yet, Hamura's chakra was larger than her own, even through the numerous extension she received by constantly using the Shadow Clones and that trick. It did mean it would spread quicker and take less time to do so.
And yet, she wasn't entirely sure if just gaining so much chakra would be good or bad. Was there a side effect of this that would bite her back later?
Would it affect the next step she'd have to take?
It did require her to keep Hamura's Chakra constantly flowing around her eyes. Around the Byakugan. And it had to stay there for a certain amount of time. For Hamura, it took years.
For Hinata... she didn't know. It could take days, months, or even years for it to work.
But did she have the time? If it took the long way...
While she was thinking, Hinata had went on to keep exploring, even though she felt incredibly compelled to leave this town now, she did it at a slow pace.
All the while, she thought about the next step.
When it was done, when the Tenseigan finally would begin to form... it would need to bloom. From a small thing to a matured flower. The user will feel bursts of pain as it matures, the chakra no longer required for the blooming. It only took days for it to work.
Then, the Tenseigan would be there to stay.
Then, Hinata would have her key to stop Toneri and prevent whatever Kaguya was doing back on Earth.
Then, she could feel satisfaction knowing she'd stopped the one at fault from whatever scheme had been concocted. Since the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
Then... maybe she wouldn't feel this guilt anymore.
It turns out that Toneri had also something planned today.
Instead of the usual scarce talk they had outside of their meals, Toneri had walked straight to her when puppet bird had landed.
''Come with me.''
It was all he said before he turned his back on her, seeming almost... exasperated with something. Hinata, far to curious why he'd act that way, followed him.
They ended up at the library, which Hinata had already visited several times. Except this time, she saw how one section that seemed empty was now... more filled with books.
And Toneri was heading into that section too.
Hinata was far to curious and so had followed without any objections.
On a little table, next to an armchair to comfortably sit on if anyone wished to read here, stood an orange book. One Hinata at first didn't truly recognize.
Until Toneri grabbed that book, and she saw the title.
Icha Icha Paradise.
''My marionettes have found this, while scouting around Earth for any valuable books or objects in general.'' he flips open a page, ''What is this?''
Hinata has genuinely no idea how to answer that.
Because while she has a... ah, relative idea on what the Icha Icha series is about, that's it.
And she's also not sure if Toneri's talking about the series the book pertains to, or the genre...
Really, she's got several ways to answer, but also many on how not to answer that.
''It's... a... a book?''
She ends up answering dumbling, with no clue how to actually answer that. Toneri just gives her a look.
''I meant, what is this type of book lying... with multiple series, multiple extensions of it and generally, that popular from the looks of it, in an extensive amount of libraries?''
Ah. Now she had an idea on how to actually answer.
''It's just that popular.''
It's not that much better, but she actually knows that's the reason. Even though she's never read the book, and only knows that... that her now late Kureina-sensei expressly forbid her to read that book until she's of age.
Which she is, now that she thinks about it.
Toneri seemed to read over the page of the book, which likely wasn't his first read, before just looking at Hinata.
''Allow me to sound skeptical.''
Before Toneri could say anything, Hinata snatched the book from Toneri's hands. Completely unexpected move as well, Toneri could only gawk.
''Well then, if you don't like it, then I'll read this. Actually been curious what that's all about to.'' she flipped the pages to the first page while Toneri looked paralyzed. Before his hand jumped towards the book, and with more force than she herself had expected, he'd snatched it away from her.
''Trust me, Hinata, you do not wish to read this.''
Perfectly stoic as well, Toneri went on to... pocket it. Now it was definitively out of her reach.
''I had my question answered, and I do believe it's nearly time for dinner.''
It was. Didn't make it any less frustrating that Toneri literally got her curiosity and put a roadblock right in the middle of it.
She was going to find out what that book held, one way or another. But, dinner did sound enticing today.
And with that end, this is it for the chapter. I struggled so much with how to end this, but I did need to focus on their relation, and what better way then Icha Icha Paradise? Also give an attempted flair of humor between them.
Either way, the Tenseigan... I more or less know what to do with it. Or even the unique ability Rinnegan users seem to get with their own pair. Madara had his Limbo clones. Sasuke his switching ability. And since I'm going that the Tenseigan is matching in power, that means Hinata is getting one unique ability of her own. What it is? Well, wait the day I have her use it.
Now, the Kaguya bit is something that'll be brought up again. Because there has to be a reason why that small (question what small is in terms of Kaguya's chakra reserves) bit was inside of her. And I do think I have a pretty good explanation as to why it's there at all.
Anyway, onto the comments
EvilRegalNeoQueen: Aw, thanks. And look forward to more. Got quite a few things planned I hope you and everyone else reading this will enjoy it.
kitkat: Not a desirable situation, that's for sure...
