Here's chapter 14. Not much to say here except enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto (or Hinata). Though I do own the plot!
Hinata quickly realizes one problem with her idea. Anyone who's even close to some kind of sensory ability will notice any extra chakra that would pop up out of nowhere.
Hamura's Chakra was able to get away from being noticed because Hinata was making it hers. Hell, it was inside of her, and apparently, whatever settings the marionettes have doesn't count for any foreign chakra in someone already known.
So if she wants to even summon and then reverse summon without getting immediately caught... she needs to find a way to block any sensors.
Easier said than done.
That wasn't including the Tenseigan she should find the location of, so that she knew where the power source was.
Overall, everything seemed to be tightly knitted to happen very quickly, if any of those happened.
Which left Hinata at a small impasse. Small because she was rather sure she could find a secluded location outside of the palace. At least get Fukasaku up to date with what the hell was going on.
That sounded like a good idea.
And it didn't even come off as suspicious. What might, was her directing the marionette bird to a town she already explored.
But Toneri seemed to have become rather busy with something. Which also was a blatant sign that something was going on.
So if Toneri had some kind of move planned, then she should begin setting up something as well.
No time for hesitation. If she was able to summon Fukasaku, or even Shima, then she had a way out. After that, she just needed to at least locate where the Tenseigan that powered everything was, and she could leave.
Although... she didn't have any way to really return. And she didn't want to rely on Toneri for that one either.
Well, an idea for later. Right now, she needed to summon one of the elder toads. So, she acted like always, and waited.
Once she was back in the moons wilderness, she headed for a town, and then one of the houses.
For safe measure, she activated her Byakugan, even went extra farther by using Sage Mode with it, to make sure there was no one. And as far as she knew, nothing was even close to the ruined building.
So, she went on with it. The extra steps to use in case she ever needed the elder toads in battle.
She concentrated and concentrated. And then, a puff of smoke happened, signifying the summoning was a success. More than ever, Hinata was happy they were in an enclosed space.
She felt the weight of both Elder toads on her shoulder, as they seemed to be taking their surrounding a good look, before realizing on who's shoulder they were on.
''Hinata-girl! You're alright!''
Fukasaku exclaimed in relief, and so did Shima.
Hinata herself released a breath of relief she didn't even know she'd been holding. Summoning was a success.
''I am. I've been... pretty busy, with what's going on,'' she answered hesitantly, not sure on how to even explain everything that's happened here.
''I'm just happy you're fine! Though...'' in Shima's exclamation of happiness, she noticed their surrounding, ''Where are we?''
''Well...'' this was going to take a while to explain, wasn't it?
''...that's a pretty long story...''
It takes a total of 2 hours to explain everything since she'd left Mount Myoboku. By the end of it, Fukasaku and Shima were both left thoughtful.
''The situation is worse than I thought,'' Fukasaku said.
''Worse? What did you think?'' Hinata asked.
''It's not something you should be worried about right now. What you should be worried about, is your plan you told us.'' Shima said, and she had a fair point. She still wanted to know, but she'd wait.
''Yes. I have a general idea, but if that fails... well, that's why I summoned you two here to begin with. I need a way out.''
''We'd be glad to help you with that. But, Hinata-girl...'' Fukasaku seemed to hesitate.
''What's the matter?''
''If, the name of the second culprit is true... then, she already made a move.''
She did what?
She voiced that as well, in her stupor at the news.
''Those White Zetsu's are littering the streets of Konoha. There is no way you would be able to get in there without fighting that army. And that was 2 weeks ago.''
Kaguya was planning something... but what?
This only made this clearer to Hinata. She needed to get out of here as quickly as possible. So, she needed to find where the Tenseigan was. And quick.
''Then, I can't waste any more time.''
She needed to act and now. If she was caught, there was virtually no risk for her. Except if she didn't find it on time, then she was doomed.
''I need to find it. I need to the Tenseigan.''
She practically stormed off towards the exit. Until Fukasaku and Shima both stopped her.
''Patience, Hinata-girl. Rushing in won't do you any good, especially if someone who wields a power that matches that of the Rinnegan will be your opponent.''
Hinata knew Fukasaku was right. Toneri hadn't used his powers, but he had it. He could use it whenever he wished.
''You're right. But what I am supposed to do then? It's a matter of time before Toneri goes for the destruction of Earth, or that Kaguya... does whatever she's got planned.''
Fukasaku seemed thoughtful, and then Shima had an idea in mind.
''Is the knowledge of the Tenseigan supposed to be something you know of, something Toneri told you already, or is it something you absolutely can't bring up?''
She asks, and Hinata thinks.
''It's... he actually mentioned it to me.''
''Then there's your key! Ask him. After all this time, you two must have some sort of trust.''
Trust... Hinata wasn't sure if it could be called that. But... what did she have to lose?
''I still don't have a way back here, or even a way out to begin with. The summoning is my only way out.''
She had that to lose. Her possible chance to get back here once she left. Because she knew that the moment Toneri turned hostile towards her, she needed to get out and quick. Or else...
''Hinata-girl. You didn't take into consideration we could leave someone here to summon you here?''
Hinata's answer to that was to slap her forehead.
''I didn't even think about that!''
And it felt so obvious too! Summon a toad here, leave it hidden. Then leave and wait...
At that point, information gathering actually might be easy.
''Pa. It's a good idea, but risky. What happens if they get found out?''
And there was the problem. What happens if they get found out?
But then, something crosses her mind.
Could puppets perform Summoning Jutsu? Or at least open a scroll?
Maybe...
''If I knew how Toneri controlled the marionettes, maybe I could use one puppet...''
But how did Toneri control the puppets? His own Tenseigan? Not likely, or at least, not from the start. From what he said, they were there for much longer than when he had his eyes.
The Tenseigan powering everything? Maybe... no threats like Suna puppets, but perfectly remote controllable.
But then, was that how he controlled them?
Or...
''I think I figured it out.'' she suddenly exclaims. Fukasaku and Shima both looked at her.
''And I, have a plan.''
That plan got almost immediately destroy the very second she stepped foot in the palace.
She had the plan. She had the idea and the means. All she needed, was to find it. Except now, Toneri put a roadblock in the middle of it without even knowing it.
Toneri was waiting for her. And that likely did mean bad news in some shape or form.
''Join me.''
It's all he says, but Hinata understands he means to go to the fireplace. He wanted to talk about something.
Hinata hoped it was nothing important as she followed him to the fireplace, where both of them took a seat.
Toneri almost immediately spoke.
''I've been thinking about something. But today, is the day,'' he stated.
Hinata didn't say a thing as he let him speak.
''I've been watching you. For a long time as well, ever since I was a child. I wanted to have a friend who wasn't my late father, or the marionettes. However, I never dared to approach you before she returned. Before the cataclysm that befell the humans.''
Hinata found it weird how Toneri seemed to... distance her from humanity, even though she is part of that.
Or did he not see it that way, due to the descendence with Hamura?
''But now, with you here. And knowing you, I trust in asking you this.'' he looked at her in the eyes, ''Marry me, Hinata.''
...
...
''Huh? Marry?''
Had she heard that right? Had he just...
''Yes. You heard me right. I want you to marry me.''
He confirmed it to her and Hinata? She wasn't sure how to react to that.
''I...''
''You don't have to answer me right away. But I do hope the answer will come soon.''
He left it at that.
When Hinata returned to her room, she face-planted on the bed.
She'd wanted to try to maybe do something like the Chakra strings Suna puppet nin did. To see if she could even do it that way, before trying a step further by outright injecting her own Chakra in the puppets.
But that got destroyed by Toneri wanting to marry her. She lacked the time now.
And Hinata had no idea how to answer that.
She should just say no. But that just might speed up her escape.
But saying yes when she just... didn't particularly think she held romantic feelings for him?
Don't be mistaken, she didn't linger on Naruto (as much as she wished she'd have been able to tell Naruto her love for him) now that he was all but confirmed dead.
But... she doesn't think she'll actually love Toneri romantically speaking either.
Maybe as a friend, or even as a type of sibling, maybe?
Still, she might have to say yes, if only to buy her time to test out how the puppets work.
Speaking of which, Hinata got up from the bed and activated her Byakugan.
Two puppets were standing guard in front of the entrance. As usual. No marionettes were alone, however.
If there had been one alone, then things could have been easy. Less at risk of Toneri somehow finding it out.
But now...
''Things would be so much easier if I knew if it's only a Tenseigan thing, or if Toneri actually spread his Chakra in each of the puppets.''
They were powered by the Tenseigan, the one there long before Toneri had his own. But even with the Byakugan, Hinata was left unsure on if the Chakra in there was from the Tenseigan only, or along with Toneri's.
She assumed it was the former, but due to that, it meant the latter might be possible.
If the Tenseigan powered everything. Why couldn't normal chakra?
Well, it was easier said than done.
For one, she needed to implant said chakra. For another, there was the potential side effect of adding one more Chakra. And then, came how control worked, if it did work.
Overall, if she was caught. Then she needed to get out and quick.
Briefly, she looked over where her Byakugan could not see. Maybe she could make a run for it there...
Well, good thing a contingency was prepared just in case. The Elder toads weren't exactly wasting time. Still, it returned to the previously mentioned risk.
So, she truly hoped this worked. But first, she needed to form the chakra out of her body. And able to get injected inside afterward.
It takes her an hour to be successful in having her Chakra out of her body, in the shape of a... very unstable orb. It looked like it was burning while moving like waves at the same time.
It took another one to even stabilize it. And another for an acceptable amount to be used in her hopes. And a minute to even think that materializing might not even be necessary, to begin with.
Now, all she needed was to inject it inside. After that... it might just decide her fate.
So, she opened the doors and looked at one of the puppets. Then, she touched its shoulder and the Chakra went inside.
''So?''
''I accept.''
Finally got this chapter uploaded. I had the rough draft of this chapter already planned and more or less ready to write. But then, came Toneri's marriage proposal and that, suddenly threw me off the loop. Wasn't sure how Hinata would react here. But, I think this will work just fine.
But with Toneri's marriage proposal, Hinata is running out of time. Next chapter? Will be The Last (heh) of the moon. For a while at least.
Onto the comments.
LB cat: The humor is honestly the only positive thing that's going on in Hinata's current life, and it works real well as of the moment. But yeah, the summoning solution literally came to me as well as a shoe drop. I just thought: ''How could Hinata get out of the Moon, without using the River.'' and then it hit me just as strongly as it did Hinata. Thanks for the comment.
