Whatever could have caused that on All Might is not something to be trifled with.
"I'm going to be honest with you young man, everyday, I feel my power slipping away from me little by little. At this point I can only do hero work for a few hours a day. I'm not going to be here for long."
"So this offer…you want me to disguise as you or something?"
"Hack…" All might spit out some blood in surprise, before wiping it with his arm. "N-no, not exactly. What do you know about my quirk?"
'He spit out quite a lot of blood. He really is in bad shape after all'
"Well, it seems to be an increase in physical prowess. Speed and strength on another level."
"The tabloids all call it a boost, an enhancement of a humans native power. The truth is, my power was passed onto me like a torch from a line of heroes before my time. A harnessing of power that grows and is shared between student and master, one for all!"
The shadow monarch felt something in him. This little story of the true nature of his power, in a small way resemble his own. Passed onto him by Ashborn. But it doesn't take a genius to understand what was going on, but taking this passed on power, would it work? More importantly...would it do ANYTHING? At his prime, his strength and speed already far surpassed All Mights. However, the windstorms and tornadoes generated might be a unique effect only to this specific quirk. Perhaps it's like a mix of strength and air bending? Either way he had nothing to lose and more to gain.
"So you want to…"
"That's right, i've been looking for a worthy successor, your skill, your fearlessness, and willing to throw yourself into harms way is exactly what i've been looking for."
"This offer, what do you expect out of me?"
"Well, with this power, and your own, you'll have everything you'll need to be the next symbol of peace when i'm fully retired. I expect that you'll be the next person to stand in front of the world and tell them that you are there for them."
The necromancer stood there pensively, thinking about his code of honor, and how they line up with All Might's.
"...I don't know."
"Huh?"
"What you want, I don't know if I can be that person. I'm not afraid of the limelight, but I don't know if people can view someone like me the same way as other top heroes."
"Heh, have you seen Endeavor?"
"Touche. I accept." Jin-woo still had his doubts about being this symbol of peace, but he DID save earth before, so it's not outside his ideals. Though what he said in the past life still comes here, despite everything he does as a hero, it all goes out the window when it comes to his family. And that was one of the biggest traits he knew he lacked, expected of heroes. To put the greater good above one's own. And while he didn't mind the idea of giving his life for others, letting his sister or mom die? No. He'd kill every hero on earth before he lets that happen.
"Good answer! In that case, here!" All might plucked one of his hairs off and handed it to the boy, who looked at him with pure confusion.
"Do I…"
"Eat it."
Confusion turned to sourness in an instant.
The song of birds indicated the rise of the morning sun. Something he sometimes laid in bed thinking about harder than usual. Being able to just, wake up and have that pleasant white sound was a luxury. Despite it being pretty much a decade ago, he remembers the wars, the invasions, the days spent in combat during his time in red gates. This in comparison, was exactly what he wanted to give his old world, if only...
It was the first day of UA, and things have gotten stranger in terms of this new power. Physically, it was actually a downgrade of his current strength. All of his power as a monarch seem to be magical in nature. While the strength he uses with one for all is something else entirely. They cannot be combined. As if the quirk is drawing power on something that can't be explained by magic alone, in layman's terms, it simply isn't really working at all. And yet, he's felt more presences within him he couldn't quite put a finger on. Something similar to what he felt in All might.
Looking over himself in the mirror, he still couldn't quite understand the appeal of uniforms. He never liked them back in Korea, and he's been used to wearing dark coats for so long, going to something rather bright in comparison feels wrong.
"Honey, you look great."
"Nh, i'm not sure about that."
"You'll be fine. Besides, i'm sure you'll have all the girls cooing over you regardless."
"Mm! Y-yeah. Thanks mom." To think that in his over 30 years of being alive, he's only been on a date once, with Cha hae-in. And it was because he thought she deserved it for accidentally seeing her naked. All in all, that was a whole nother realm he wasn't sure he was ready for.
Huh, the door was huge. But then again there was probably quirks out there that made bigger than normal students...but then why was it so thin? Musings for another day. As when he opened said door and stepped inside, his instant thoughts about the class was, that it was oddly colorful.
You had a guy with crazy red hair, Bakugo, a literal pink girl, a multi armed monster looking student, and several others. Either way, a pretty wide array of unique peers. But as he was scanning all of them, his presence seemed to have instantly stirred them up.
"Hey is that the guy?"
"He's the one who broke the record!"
"Look at how smug he is, he probably gets all the girls agh!"
'How do they know about my score? Was that info they could get so easily? No, probably a journalist or insider must have leaked it'
Bakugo greeted his entrance with a 'hmph' and turned away. Meanwhile The boy with glasses walked over full of vim and vigor.
"Ah, you must be Sung Jin-woo! I admit, when I first saw you in the exam I didn't think much of you. I apologise for my crash conclusions! My name is Tenya Iida, it's a pleasure to meet you!"
'He's apologising for his thoughts?'
"Uh, yeah, you're all good, it's nice to meet you too."
"Your quirk, it's amazing! You could watch over an entire city by yourself! A one man agency in the making."
'One man agency...now this is starting to feel real familiare'
"Hey, you're the edgy looking guy that saved me!"
Behind them appeared the brown haired girl, from the exam. There didn't seem to be any permanent damage on the leg, giving her that potion was the right call after all. But he wasn't sure how to take being called edgy.
"I'm glad you're all healed up."
"Thanks to you. Oh, i'm being rude! My name is Ochaco Uraraka."
"I'm Sung Jin-woo." Although at this point he probably didn't need to tell anyone.
"Man you really showed that giant 0 point robot a thing or two, you straight up went all darth vader on that thing!"
While everyone in the class at least knew a little bit about the korean who broke all previous records in the exam, they didn't know any details. If it's true that he could manhandle such a frightening enemy, he's perhaps even stronger than they thought.
"Is this the lounge?"
"Huh?"
On the floor, beside them, was a...man? In some sort of sleeping bag. It looked like a slug person.
"If you're all going to mess around, go ahead and leave the premises. If you want to start taking things seriously, then learn to shut up faster. It took you 8 seconds, that's 8 seconds too long."
'This guy, I know him. One of my shadows caught him on a nightly recon patrol once'
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Homeroom teacher! Was the collective thoughts of the class. This scruffy geezer looked like a beach bum.
"And now, get into your PT gear. Hurry, I don't like to wait."
"A physical test of our quirks?"
Uraraka frowned. "But, what about the ceremony?"
"You're in the hero course, you don't get the luxury of that stuff. Here at UA, we teachers get free reigns to teach how we want. Now, i'm sure throughout school you all did a series of test right? Soft ball throwing, sprints, that sort of thing. The department of education prohibits the use of quirks for them, it's illogical. Here, on the other hand, things are gonna be different."
Jin-woo's case was interesting, as he didn't technically have a quirk. Would throwing as hard as he could be counted as using a quirk? Which is why for those test he always decided on using a rather normal score for someone his age by holding back.
"You, Jin-woo. You're the hotshot around aren't you? How far could you throw in junior high?"
"About 70 meters."
"Alright, now use your quirk. You can do anything you want, as long as you don't leave the circle."
'Anything? So, is that an invitation to go all out? While a small part of me feels like keeping things under wraps, i'm also curious just how far I can turn things on their head here. How far I can go!'
"Alright, in that case. Stand back."
The Monarch, deciding to use some brain instead of brawn, lightly threw the ball underhand style, with seemingly no effort put in. But his eyes, and right hand, both glowed with a deathly blue. The ball, did not fall. It kept rising, and rising, until it left sight.
Aizawa took a look at the datapad, then turned the datapad to the class.
"Infinity?!"
"That ball...is in space?!"
"There's no way! A telekinetic quirk? That's crazy strong!"
Even he was a bit surprised. He wasn't totally sure how high he wanted it, so he just lifted it straight up and out of the atmosphere, it went into orbit faster than he thought it would.
"Know your own limits, that's how you'll figure out what kind of hero you can be."
"Using our quirks, oh man this is gonna be fun!"
"Fun you say? Well, then...will you have that same thought throughout these 3 years? To make it even more fun, whoever is in last, will be expelled. Understand now? Your fates are in my hands now. Welcome to UA!"
Event 1: 50 meter dash
'Alright, for this, i'll use my sprint!'
As the race started, Jin-woo looked to the side to see Bakugo moving in slow motion, his face full of concentration. He was going to use his explosions to propel him forward. Not something he's seen before. However,
".5 seconds"
To the outside viewers, it was as if he blurred to the end. Their eyes not able to totally see his movements. But that didn't make sense, his quirk just a second ago was telekineses, and yet he's faster than Iida!
'3 different abilities? It's not something you see everyday if ever.' Mused their homeroom teacher. His original thought on Jinwoo was that he had a quirk that exploited the weakness of the entrance exam. A wide ranged summoning quirk. But telekineses, and now super speed. It was starting to get a bit out of hand.
After Bakugo made it across, he stood still like a statue. After the ball throwing, which he tried to justify as some sort of trick, he felt this in real time. He was right next to him in one moment, and already at the end the next. This was not a trick. All those years...that was the trick.
"You...bastard! I'm gonna, i'm gonna!" But unlike himself, decided to lower his hands, and for the remainder of the entire day. Stayed completely quiet.
Jin-woo stared at his back as he slowly walked off to the next testing area. Even after all this time, things never got better. The monarch wasn't one to have many friends, there was Jinho, and Hae-in, but aside from other acquaintances, that was pretty much it after the chairman got himself killed. However wasn't he supposed to try to have a normal life? Maybe he just rolled unlucky having someone like Bakugo as a childhood friend. Although it didn't change the fact that a small part of him wished they could have something, anything. He's been in this world for years, and yet spends the majority of his time either with his mom and sister, or off somewhere training with his subjects like a certain oversized ant.
Event 2: Grip strength
"Hmm, use our quirks huh. Arise." The students near him eeped at the sight of a horned warrior clad in armor and a shield. "Together."
Both of them gripping with their all, managed to put out an astounding 1800kg, surpassing that multi armed guy in the process.
Event 3: Long jump
"Uh...where'd he go?"
Event 4: Side stepping
"It looks like 2 flashing after images…this is freaky"
Event 5: Throwing
Watching a second infinity, Jin-woo was honestly pleasantly surprised.
'I can't believe I was tied in something. Guess there's quirks out there that can replicate what my abilities do in some ways''
After throwing was over, there were a couple misc. Events that he once again dominated thoroughly through. Until finally, everyone came round to see their scores. Jin-woo was obviously first, followed by everyone else, with that grape head boy in last.
"Aaaaaa!"
"Also I lied about expelling the person in last place, that was just a way to get you to give it your all."
"AAAAAAA-"
As Aizawa directed the chattering students back to the class, he went his own way around the building, where he came across All Might.
"You felt it too didn't you?"
"You were watching? Good to know you enjoy wasting time."
"That boy, Sung Jin-woo. He's it, isn't he. You know that as well as I do."
"Hm? So are you picking favorites now?"
"Agh-"
"His physicals are a cut above even the average 4th year at this school. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up becoming the next top hero, but that's just potential. If we baby and pick favorites, and give preferential treatment, you end up with spoiled brats. He might be one of the strongest students we've had in a long time, but even a villain can have such power, or am I wrong? He's still just another kid, it's my job to make sure he puts his talents to good use."
"Y-yeah, good point…" All Might wasn't a teacher, that much was obvious. But was it still so bad to bend the rules every once in a while? The burning hot fire of youth within him was already impatient of all this stuff. He wanted to grant this kid a license and personally take him around town to gain experience. But perhaps Aizawa was right. There was benefit in being patient. Oh well, tomorrow was the real deal. To see how he puts that talent to use, in an actual live combat setting.
