Hello everyone,
Well, I am drawing to a close on this story. It has taken a wicked turn I never foreseen and it keeps getting weirder. Thanks for reading, reviewing, favoriting, and following.
Bella-
I ran. I ran as far and fast as my legs would carry me. My bare feet dug into the sand, propelling me rapidly forward.
I don't know what nightmare I happened to be locked into, but I ran. I ran so fast my muscles burned and my lungs felt on fire.
It didn't matter. It didn't matter. I only made it halfway down the white beach before I felt arms lock around my waist, picking me up as my legs still struggled to take me away.
I fought. I fought his hood. I fought the calm that seemed to slip over my body, and knew without a doubt he was the one who provided it. "Let me go! Let me go, please! Just put me down!"
His chest shook, vibrating against my back, his breath heavy against my ear.
I wanted to surrender. Everything within me begged to comply, yet knowing what I now knew how could I? How could I willingly crave evil?
I couldn't. I couldn't be so weak. I wasn't a religious person by nature but I did believe in good and evil. How could I not?
"Calm down, Bella, calm down."
Laziness fell over my limbs, and while I wasn't held against my will, the fight drained out of me. His hold around my waist eased, yet he didn't let me go completely. With his cheek resting next to mine, I shook my head, "I can't. I don't understand how any of this happened, but I can't process this situation. Why me? What did I do? You are saying that you … that you are a demon."
When he didn't immediately respond, I swallowed the bike rising in my throat. "Am I evil? Is that why you are here? How did any of this happen?"
"You're not bad. You're not bad at all." His hands caressed my sides as he eased away, putting several inches of space between us. "Don't run. Please, don't run."
Once my feet touched the ground, I turned to face him. "I'm not going to run, but you need to tell me how this is possible. And why I was chosen for this? All I wanted was a little excitement, and suddenly, I'm fucking Lucifer's son. I feel like a damn basket case."
He took my hand and led me to the water's edge. "If I were to explain how this is possible for you, I would have to understand how it's possible for me. All I know is, I was put here five years ago. I became what I became. While I am His son, I was given free will, which means I'm capable of determining my own life. Or at least I was, then the night in the garden, He came and took it back. Now, I'm stuck in limbo. I can't be in your world, but I can't leave it either. My own personal Hell, I suppose."
"So, what does this mean? Do you want to stay? Do you want to go?" There were so many questions and I had no clue what to ask first. Dipping my toes in the warm water I stared up at the bright blue sky.
His fingers tightened around mine and he jiggled my hand to get my attention. When I finally managed to look at him, he shrugged, "I loved my life. I loved my life for what it was before I met you, and it has only gotten better since. The problem is, I don't even know how to stay if I want to. Where do I go from here? These were questions my father wasn't eager to answer. I don't even know how to break my connection to him, or if it's possible to."
I dug my feet into the wet sand as I contemplated everything he said. "So, what happens now? Won't you be missed at work? What was your human life like?"
"I made millions of dollars for my company so yeah," he chuckled, nodding as he studied me. "I will be missed. I am the CEO of Cullen Enterprise. We are a liquidation company. I pretty much buy companies and part them out. That's what I do during the day, and by night, you already know, as we spend most of that time together in one form or another."
"Do you enjoy it? The stalking? You said you stalked other women before, right? Did you enjoy it?" That was a stupid question. Obviously, he enjoyed it, otherwise, he wouldn't be doing it. "What made me different from any other woman you followed? You said you never made your presence known. Why did you with me?"
"I couldn't help myself. You looked so beautiful, and lonely. There was something about your eyes that kept me coming back for more."
I wanted him. I wanted him to come back. I don't know why or what it meant for either of us, but I would be lost without his presence. "I liked it too. It was the first time I felt really alive. I want you, but I don't know what any of this means."
"I am the son of Lucifer …" he started.
A loud booming voice sounded behind us. "You may be the son of Lucifer, but she is my daughter."
We both turned in unison to find a man standing several feet away. His outline was plainly visible, but his features were obscure. As hard as I tried I couldn't make out the details of his face. Shakily, I sucked in a breath. "Who are you?"
