mini-sequel to Chapter 354
"It's hideously retro."
"I think it's sweet."
"They know we can see them, right?"
"I'd tell them to get a room, but ew."
Caroline bit her lip in amusement as her arm curled around his shoulder, briefly pressing her face into his neck while they danced. Despite their relative privacy on the back patio, she still felt the need to hide from the picture window where she could see all three of the girls watching them. "Look at us, scandalizing Mystic Falls yet again."
Merely shrugging, Klaus brushed a kiss onto her hair. "Just our children, so it seems." He twisted their joined hands just enough to tease at the flowers around her wrist. "I happen to think this suits you."
"I can't believe I let you buy me a corsage," she groaned, smiling through it anyway. "I must really like you."
He dipped her back and grinned when she laughed at the sudden rush of blood to her head. "And you didn't make me wait a century." Gently guiding her upright, he let her escape his hold for a brief twirl. When she landed safely against his chest, his eyes were soft and tender. "However did I manage that?"
Shaking her head, she kissed him, slow and indulgent. "I don't know," she murmured, lingering against his lips. "But don't make me change my mind."
With barely a breath between them, he claimed her lips again. They were pretty crappy chaperones, but the dance would survive without her supervision for another ten minutes — maybe fifteen. It might take that long for any of their daughters to forgive them this display, anyway.
"Ugh, gross."
"Come on, they're cute."
"I can't watch this anymore. Let's dance."
