Anonymous asked: dark!klaroline set during s2?

He watched her go about her day, curious as to what Katerina had seen in her. Pretty enough, he supposed, which could be disarming in the right hands. Given her utterly human presentation, Klaus figured he might mold her into exactly the vampire he needed her to be.

But she was young, still living at home even. She was bound to be missed. Unless she could be convinced to leave on her own volition…

His smile curled, surely appearing as devilish as he approached the girl, a touch too fast. She whirled to face him before he made contact with her shoulder; good, her instincts were well established. That was promising. "Sorry," he said, his voice dripping with charm. "Wasn't watching where I was going."

He expected a disgruntled annoyance, perhaps a softening already once she got a look at him. What he hadn't been prepared for was a beaming smile to cover the terror in her eyes. Interesting.

Caroline Forbes was smarter prey than Katerina had let on.

Dropping all pretense, he leaned in for a moment, just to see how she'd react. Her sneer was vicious and lovely. "Ah, I see no introduction is necessary." His eyes widened with intent, and he lowered his voice to a seductive murmur. "Be a good girl and come with me, I have a job for you."

Faster than he expected, she shoved him back and started walking away. "I don't know what you want from me, but I'm not your girl," she tossed over her shoulder, completely unaffected by his compulsion. "I won't help you hurt Elena."

Annoyed, he flashed after her until he had her pressed against the alley wall, and he relished the hummingbird pace of her pulse. "It would be unwise to dismiss me, sweetheart, and the fact you apparently take vervain proves you've got a good head on your shoulder. I'd hate to have to remove it."

"Then why haven't you?"

The pause after her question takes them both by surprise, and he slowly loosens his grip on her arms. "I've spent many years setting the chessboard to break my curse, and I believe you could be a useful piece."

Her eyes narrowed, but she didn't run. "A pawn, you mean."

"Don't limit yourself on my account," he said. "The queen, for instance, is the most powerful of the set. She need only decide what she wants…" Leaning in again, his lips just brushed her ear. "…and how far she's willing to go to get it."

When he pulled back, he was gratified to see the faintest trace of veins beneath her eyes. Caroline swallowed, clearly torn between her better angels and the monster beneath. Leaving her to her own counsel, he enjoyed watching the fight across her expressive face. She was a fascinating thing, and there were worse ways to pass the time until he finally reclaimed his wolf than a fetching blonde in need of an education.

Perhaps his time in Mystic Falls would be more fulfilling than he originally planned.

Crossing her arms, however, Caroline seemed to come to a decision. "I still don't want you to hurt Elena," she started, and he was already planning the best way to drain her of vervain when the breath rattled in her throat. Guilt, he recognized. Interesting. She met his eyes dead on, however, no hint of a waver in her voice. "But I'm listening."

His mouth tilted up in a smirk. He did love when the pieces fell so easily into place.
