Epilogue
"Let's be together forever, Sasuke-kun."
"Aa."
The late afternoon wind swept by, moving the white and red cloak of the cross legged figure sitting in front of the single tombstone. A bunch of cosmos were laid on the pristine marble, while cherry blossom trees surrounded the sacred place that Uzumaki Naruto, devotedly visited everyday.
Haruno Sakura
Uchiha Sasuke
"The Broken Souls United In Death"
A sad smile crossed his face as he traced those words.
"Teme, Sakura-chan, I can't believe it's already been ten years. Time just flew by you know," Naruto laughed awkwardly, trying to ignore the silence. "I did it, I fulfilled my dream today. I finally became the Hokage."
"I arrived late at my own ceremony, geez even Kaka-sensei was there before me. I think he was just desperate to hand down the position, he is been complaining how the Hokage duty doesn't let him spend his time with Shizune." He shivered thinking about the onslaught of work coming his way.
"Don't worry, I will make time to visit you guys. Sasuke-teme will brobably just bore you to death with his brooding ne, Sakura-chan?"
His eyes watered at the defeaning silence he got in reply. It had already been years since that day and he wondered if the numbing pain would ever go away. He knew, he knew he lost a part of himself with them, leaving a gaping hole in his heart that not even Hinata could fill.
"I... I wish you were here, to see me. It's not the same without you..." his shoulders shook as he tried to keep in his sobs.
A hand landed on his head startling him and he looked up to see the gravity defying hair of Hatake Kakashi through blurry eyes.
"S-sensei..."
"I think it's time you let them go, Naruto," Kakashi sighed, staring up at the drifiting clouds.
"But... no... I can't..." Naruto mumbled incoherently.
"Do you think they would have wanted you to mourn them this long?" Kakashi asked, pulling up the blonde man. "Do you remember their last moments, Naruto?
How could he ever forget? Sakura's gentle smile and Sasuke's hope...
Maybe next time...
He took a deep breath, letting his body relax, the ten year old pain vanishing slowly.
"Hey Kaka-sensei, do you think they are content? Wherever they are?"
"Yes. They are with each other, aren't they?"
"It sounds like you have experienced this before."
Kakashi hummed, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"I have never told you about Obito and Rin, huh?"
At another part of the world, a blue haired bubbly girl skipped across the meadow, pulling a scowling boy behind her.
"Oi Hikari, don't pull."
"Come on, Shinji-kun, those flowers are up ahead."
"Troublesome," the boy muttered under his breath.
"Shinji-kun, you meanie, how can you be mean to your soulmate?" the girl whined, pouting up at him.
"Sorry," the boy mumbled and pulled the girl, "I can see the flowers from here."
"Yayy, Shinji-kun is the best." the girl cheered making the boy look at her fondly as he led her forward, his hand holding her small ones tightly.
In this life the boy is free of any curse from his past, his devotion solely dedicated to the little girl, who had loved him through his darkness in another life. The golden thread connecting them the testament of their bond.
Phew !! :) It's finally over.
Sorry for the late update. I know it's been months, but I decided to finish this for SasuSaku Month.
So I decided to add a bit of Ikarishipping because the way Paul calls Dawn "troublesome" reminds me of the way Sasuke calls Sakura "annoying". Paul is Shinji and Dawn is Hikari in the Japanese version.
Happy Reading!!
Let me know what you guys think about the ending.
Review is much appreciated!!
