Chapter Four.
Cheyenne Mountain complex, Stargate command.
Colonel Jack O'niell came in bright and early for the 9 am briefing, the man was many things, tardy was never one of them, he had a mission briefing at 9:30 and if he was late his team was gonna eat all the jelly filled donuts again! "Cough" anyway he got quite the surprise when he entered the briefing room not only was everyone there but so were two others, short, grey skinned and big black eyes, yep its Thor alright and another Asgard, question was why were they here.
"Thor buddy! Whats up, you never call, you never write, we missed you around here!." O'niell commented cheerily. Thor turned towards him and gave his normal greetings, wishing just a little he would say Jack instead of O'niell, it still felt a little impersonal for a friend so O'niell asked to what do we owe the pleasure, looking around at the, also confused faces to his team and CO, Thor's response floored him though.
"O'niell, Vizeer and I have come in the name of all Asgard, to give our thanks to one of your own people who has done so much to help my own, I was sent to speak with him and all of you as well to finalize the proposal put forth yesterday, although it would seem he is not here." Thor ignored the multiple questions of who they were talking about, although the distressed noises coming from his Asgard colleague attracted everyone's attention.
"Thor, please I have informed you already, he would most likely not be in any fit state to attend this meeting, he did inform me he was going to consume a great deal of libations in celebration of the success of this venture, it would be wise to contact him before taking any actions in bringing him here." complained Vizeer, the humans in the room staring at him like he grew a second head.
"Do not be foolish Vizeer, one with such a great intellect as he would not allow a few "libations" to waylay him, I am sure he is as excited as we are to proceed with this endeavor" Thor said, dismissing his companions protests and warnings, he was sure that Doctor James Felger the hero of the Asgard, Replicators Bane! Would be wide awake and raring to go. "Now, I'll just transport him here, I am sure he will be grateful for the assistance." Thor said certainly, if only he knew.
Around the same time I had just gotten out of bed because I had a massive need for a leak and my bladder was about to blow, thankfully I made it with time to spare, phew. After that was done I looked myself in the mirror, god I looked like crap, what a sesh I had last night, painted Vegas red, got kicked out of 3 casinos for counting cards, but not before taking about seven million dollars from others I then look toward the bed to see not 1 but 2 pretty naked blonds completely unconscious after last nights activities hehe good times.
I Grimace and look at the mirror again, imagine if they woke up and saw me in this horrid state, here I was standing in my boxers and a t-shirt, socks and a raging headache that felt like a rampaging horde of Unas were creating merry havoc with my prefrontal cortex and what was the strange humming soun-
"Ah here we are, we are all here now, we can commence completion of the proposal" Thor said happily, sure that the good Doctor would have appreciated the assistance in transport from such a distance as he was.
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!"
Then again Thor thought, perhaps he had been a tad precipitous in his dismissal of Vizeer' warnings, he had hoped he hadn't angered the good Doctor to much, last thing he wanted to do was upset his peoples newest hero, his musing was interrupted by the very human he was thinking about spinning on the spot and turning towards all the others in the room.
"Alright! This is whats going to happen before ANYTHING ELSE! One, someone get me some pants! Two, someone get me some coffee".
"There's coffee on the table", Daniel deadpanned.
"That's not going to be enough! Lastly, I'm going to need all the jelly filled donuts!" I don't know why but i think I heard someone saying "Son of a Bitch!" from somewhere but currently I didn't care, I was in front of multiple people I respected and looked up to in nothing but my boxers and yesterdays shirt, my mind was trying to work through the damage I had inflicted upon it last night, and my headache was getting worse!
"And can someone get me the strongest hangover cure you've got, my heads killing me." Ten minutes later I had pants, some slippers -nice touch soldier guy- a box of donuts and a pitcher of coffee all to myself and one of the best hangover cures the infirmary could come up with, I was currently attached to the most awesome I.V I had ever experienced! I was currently half way through both it and the coffee when General Hammond couldn't stand the situation anymore.
"Can someone explain to me what exactly is happening here?" Good man George Hammond, always on the ball. An obnoxious slurping noise could be heard through the conference room, god this was good coffee.
"Sir, I'm not in any fit state to explain things from the beginning so I'm gonna have my man Viz here explain from his point of view and I'll add as much as possible" I said. I took a bite of my forth jelly filled piece of heaven, these things were great, although I felt like I was being watched with contempt for some reason.
Vizeer bobbed his head excitedly, he was more then happy to talk about the greatest day he'd had in a millennium or 8. "Of course Jay, well, yesterday morning Doctor Felger came into construction lab three where I was running simulations, we proceeded to converse about the Replicators and what our peoples plan was for when they would eventually escape."
"Something that would take many thousands of years thanks to the time dilation device we set off", added Major Carter. The two Asgard looked at each other, silently contemplating whether they should tell them the truth, I didn't give them much of a choice though.
"Tell them", I said softly but loud enough for all to hear, I knew it was a fragile topic, their failure to truly secure the menace, but there was not point holding onto that little secret now, not after all was said and done.
Thor turned to all in the room, his voice heavy. "The time dilation device although functioned perfectly was found lacking in what we needed it to accomplish, by the end of this year, by Earth standards, the Replicators would have reached the device, they would have escaped".
That got a reaction out of everyone, almost all talking over each other, some asking why they were not told, others asking what could be done , it was chaos, at least until I gave a load whistle, that seemed to get everyone attention. "Guys, I get it you're all worried about the Replicators but if you listen to the rest of the story you'll find out what happened next".
Everyone sat back at that and Vizeer continued his tale. "Well Jay-Doctor Felger actually discerned that I was not being totally honest and after I told him what Thor had just informed you he, well he offered to help".
"What do you mean he offered to help"? Added Jackson, he really should have read more about the year he was gone.
"Doctor Felger informed me he had a device that could end the Replicators forever!" said Vizeer happily, everyone's eyes turned towards me but the only response I had to that was a wink and a smile, then I slurped my coffee some more.
"Well I knew that Doctor Felger wouldn't be saying such things unless he truly believed in what he was saying and so with that knowledge I transported both of us to my ship and I requested an emergency council meeting, to which Doctor Felger made his proposal". Vizeer really was a happy bunny today, he was even bobbing up and down slightly, bless him, Thor continued on from the end of Vizeers addition to the story.
"I was then contacted by my father High chancellor Odin to weigh in on my opinion of this situation, I found the Doctor's reasoning to be genuine and I gave my consent to the deal he put forth between himself and my people". Thor added, I could see the confused looks as well as an angry cloud building on the General and Colonels faces, this should end well.
"And what kind of deal was this may I ask" General Hammond didn't seem happy, if the clenching of his jaw was any indication, his question was answered by not just Thor but Vizeer also, at the same time.
"Half", they both said in near perfect synchronicity, everyone looked around at each other in confusion, even the General and Colonels anger was forgotten for a moment due to the confusion. "Half" I added not particularly helpful to the situation, and I knew it wasn't either, ain't I a stinker?
Vizeer was bobbing his head happily waiting for someone to ask the question, he wanted to answer it himself, he didn't have to wait long.
"Half of what?" Asked General Hammond, Vizeer happily answered, they will be so happy at what Jay has helped secure for their world.
"Half of all the material possession of Hala, to mean half of all the replicator blocks that covered that world completely." Vizeer was confused about the silence, shouldn't they be jubilant? Perhaps they were in shock.
"WHAT!?" exclaimed a good deal of the humans, perhaps Thor would explain it better, Vizeer looked to Thor in the hopes he understood he wished for him to continue on.
"As you all know the Replicators only ever used the finest materials they could acquire for building their mechanical forms, Doctor Felger has made a deal with the Asgard people for half of all the Replicator blocks and cells that made up the planets surface which also went to a depth of 12 kilometers, that is trillions upon trillions of tons of Naquadah, Trinium and Neutronium, although a large portion of the Neutronium was exchanged for technological requests, also in case our conversation has not inferred correctly the Replicator threat is no more, thanks to the efforts of Doctor James Felger". Thor finished his part of the story, he didn't want to go into full detail about the how's and who's, but he believed he passed on what was important, although the silence in the room was quite off putting.
Well there it was, everything was out in the open, now it was time to see what kind of fallout if any I would suffer, quite frankly once the Secretary of defense and the President himself hears about this I think I could pretty much write my own ticket, my next big projects were already rolling around in my head, the 304s design upgrades will be easy as pie so I wasn't going to be bothered about that since I already wrote most of the upgrade algorithm package on my personal laptop/tablet which I will finish later today, all I need to do is just press apply to the current digital design plan and voila, done.
No my next big plan was to replace one of the other big lackluster pieces of equipment we are currently using, the F-302 but back to the moment at hand, the shock in the room still hadn't abated, oh wait, only a few seconds had passed by, my quantum brain can just think at such a high rate of speed it felt more like ten minutes had passed by, maybe if I spoke it would snap them out of it but what should I say?
"Your welcome". Everyone's attention was now on me again, good job brain!
Carter was staring at me in something akin to awe, Teal'c was as stoic as ever although he was leaning back in his chair and staring at the ceiling, Daniel Jackson was looking back and forth between each Asgard in confusion, Colonel O'niell was staring at me in blind disbelief and General Hammond was just staring at me intently all anger lost, so I suppose that's a victory.
"Doctor Felger, son, can you tell me what exactly gave you the idea to ask for such a thing in the first place." Hammond asked, finally a good question and I said as much too.
"Great question General, and the answer to that is another question, what does one need to defeat the enemy?" I asked the room well more directed to the humans.
O'niell snapped out of his disbelief long enough to actually come up with the answer I was looking for. "Resources, personnel, weaponry and tactics". Everyone around the room nodding their heads to the answer, as was I.
"That's right, almost all of which we lack in far greater amounts then our enemy, in asking for the resources of the replicator planet I have taken care of one of the biggest issues on that list and with the weapons I have designed and those I have yet to unveil we will have the weapons, tactics we have in spades otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today.
Personnel is another issue we are suffering, unfortunately one we can't solve right now but there is one more thing Colonel O'niell forgot to mention, and that's technology, sure weapons are a technology but I am talking about ships and other things that could give us an edge, and I will be solving that as well" I said to the room, everyone grasping what I had just done, I continued.
"So Thor are you ready to hear of the requests I have for technology as was a part of the deal that was made between myself and the Asgard people?" Thor didn't hesitate in stating his readiness, good time to get my new toys, but one more thing needed to be said.
"First may I ask what the Asgard were going to offer the SGC and Earth as thanks for their assistance in holding the replicators?" I needed to know what was going to be given so I don't ask for the same thing, this was why I wanted the deal to be between myself and the Asgard and not as a part of Earth, they would have simply dealt with the situation as if they were thanking Earth for all they had done including, everything Sg-1 had done to keep the replicator threat in check as the same thing, this way I protect everything SG-1 had done and the Asgard would have to recognize that separately.
"I see, before your proposal was made we were to offer Asgard shields, transporters and hyperdrive to Prometheus as a thank you for all SG-1 had done to stop the Replicator threat, and since you dealt with the Asgard as an individual and not a representative of your government, the Asgard would still be duty bound to deliver these agreed upon items, very clever Doctor, very clever indeed". I couldn't really hide my smirk so I just bowed my head to the Asgard as well.
I heard some gasps from around the room, I suppose they figured out I played the Asgard a little bit, sorry not sorry for not being an idiot and figuring out that little political loophole.
"Well since I now know what it is we will getting from the Asgard for what SG-1 did its now time for me to ask what I want, so lets get right into it. First item is the designs for the most advanced version of the spatial distortion technology your people built early into your peoples time in space, second item is the most advanced version you will allow of the design for the autonomous construction drone technology as well as the use of the virtual construction device in lab 3 so i can build a few dozen. Finally, the most advanced version of your matter energy storage technology that you are allowed to share, I think these three items would be more then enough, so what to you think Thor, do you believe the council will agree to these items?"
Thor blinked a few times, this was truly a curious human, he looked over to Vizeer who just shrugged, as much as his shoulders would allow, these bodies were a little stiff after all, looking back to the good doctor he answered his query. "I do not foresee any issue with the technology you have asked for Jay, since none are weapons which was what was assumed you perhaps would ask for I believe we should be able to supply you with the technologies quickly".
"I'm sorry what did you call him?" O'niell asked Thor but was for some reason ignored. Thor continued.
"I must speak with the council immediately and I will have an answer for you within the hour, I bid you all goodbye -he bowed- O'niell...Jay" he and Vizeer then transported away leaving me in the room with all these people who I had faith wouldn't hurt me...much, I think.
Hey you know if I didn't know better I would have thought Thor did this on purpose, especially the whole O'niell/Jay thing, but that's just stupi- Oh that son of a bitch! I had to diffuse the tension somehow, come on brain don't fail me now!
"So,where you guys off to today?" 'Ya that'll do it' I thought, I was then picked up and brought to the Generals office where I sat there listening to Hammond talk directly to the President of the United States for several minutes, he decided instead of trying to explain the situation to POTUS he'd just make me do it, oh and now I had the General pushing the phone into my face, apparently telling me that the president wanted to speak to me personally, ok what ever you do don't be a wise-ass brain, do you hear me!
I took the receiver and pressed it to my ear. "Hello, Felger speaking, who's this?" God damn it brain you had one job! I did hear a snicker from behind me and I knew that it was O'niell, well as long as he was entertained, General Hammond seemed less then amused but luckily for me I heard a chuckle come from the other end of the line.
"You know my Secretary of defense talked about you son, you did some mighty good work on the Prometheus." POTUS said, I responded.
"Well sir thank you, I do hope he showed you the video of the event, what did you think of it?" Keep him focused on something positive, then bring up the situation yourself, control the conversation.
"WooWee, that was a mighty fine piece of work Doctor, with how much I've read up on the Goa'uld and those Ha'tak class ships of theirs, almost makes em sound invincible, I can't thank you enough for giving me at least a little peace of mind there son, sleeping at night has gotten easier thanks to you" Wow poor guy, I forgot he's been the president the whole time the program has been in operation, must have really weighted on him, but this also gives me a great opening, get the president on my side and doors will open.
"I'm glad to hear that sir, and I think you will be sleeping even better after I tell you what I got up to yesterday", I tried to sound cheerful lets hope he stays on the same emotional track he was on.
"Oh that's right, George was saying that you and the Asgard have gone and done some sort of deal together- "Yes sir". I cut him off before he could build up any negative emotions, "A deal that will secure Earths future more then anything we have done in the last 6 years".
"Oh!?" That got him curious, good, chase that rabbit, "and how is that son?"
"Well sir, I've just solved some of our biggest issues when it comes to prosecuting this war. Resources are a huge problem and the one mining world we currently control is incredibly limited in what it can produce and not only that, we have to expend security and personnel on it when they could be doing other more important things, you see sir, the deal I made with the Asgard has allowed me to secure the possession of trillions upon trillions of tons of the most refined Naquadah, Trinuim and Neutronium anyone could ever create, all of which will be used to build our newest and most powerful ships, weapons and other craft, I have also secured construction technology that will help us build those ships in a fraction of the time it would have taken to build them, I am talking mere weeks sir, not months or a year as I am sure your advisors have projected, and this is only the tip of the iceberg sir, and if you are willing to hear me out, I would be more then happy to speak to you about more. Things are going to get better sir, I just need you to have a bit of faith in me".
Well that was it, the best thing I think I could have said to the man to get him on my side, now lets see if it works out. The silence was finally broken on the other line, "Son, could you pass the phone back to George please?"
"Of course sir, he wants to talk to you" I handed Hammond the phone and closed my eyes, I can almost imagine god flipping a coin, were will it land, heads or tails?
"Yes sir...are you sure sir?...I see, I'll set it up, goodbye sir." I opened my eyes and I looked at the General, couldn't really tell what was going to happen based on his face, man must be a mean poker player.
"You have a meeting at the white house in 3 days time in which you will better explain what you have done and what you have planned for the future, there will be a plane waiting for you at Groom lake which will take you to Washington, I hope you know what you're doing son, for all our sakes." General Hammond seemed to relax into his chair more, the tension in the room evaporating a bit, good, I didn't like being at odds with these people, didn't feel right.
"Thank you sir, and trust me when I say you will not be disappointed in whats about to take place, its going to change the face of this conflict as well as well as keep us all safe from threats in the galaxy or beyond, I promise." I tried to reassure him and those in the room that I was on their side, but perhaps we will just be destined to be at odds at some point in the future, something to think about.
"If you say so Doctor, is there anything you need right now?"
"Um yes sir, is it alright if I use your secure line, I'd like to contact area 51, someone I need to ask for favor." After getting confirmation of my request I got in contact with Vizeer, finally and he transported me back to my apartment, excellent! I had 3 days, 3 whole days to get ready for a meeting with the president...plenty of time, after waking up and kicking out the twins I got my secure tablet out and started up the plans I had begun a few days ago, I was gonna blow everyone's socks off! Man I really needed an assistant to help me manage all my designs and ideas...maybe I could make one?
Vizeer got in contact with me later that day and informed me that my request from the Asgard had been granted, I asked him to transfer the data to me, I focused my attention on the catapult and matter energy storage first, I had three days to work on the designs before I had to be at the capitol.
Two days later I was done, having worked through the full 48 hours without sleep, I had successfully finished the designs I needed, now it was time to think about that assistant idea, so I started with the framework coding for an A.I, kinda like Jarvis from Ironman, I needed someone to bounce ideas off of, someone that could keep up with me as well as keep my secrets but this was gonna take way more then a day, at least a week or so to get all the algorithms set as well as the vocalizer for the voice, after getting a pretty good head start on that I decided to get some much need sleep, and I crashed for pretty much the rest of the day.
It was now time to head for Washington DC and as I sat in the plane as it flew to the capital I couldn't help but wonder how they were going to react to everything I'd come up with.
