In Rimuru's past life as Mikami Satoru, he had made a list of '40 Things to do before you turn 40'. During the years before his death, he had successfully managed to cross out thirty eight items on said list.
Having been reincarnated as a Slime, it no longer mattered. Rimuru did not have the biology or need to complete the last two items on his list. That is:
Get married
Have a child
Rimuru lacked a lifespan and a gender. As far as he knew, procreation by natural means was impossible for him.
Sure, in this world there were many women who were willing to marry him regardless of his biology. However, Rimuru had found that since his body lacked any and all erogenous zones, his human form being no better than a doll, he had little to no desire for a marriage partner.
And why would he need a wife anyway? Tempest's government had no need for a Queen. Perhaps in the future, when he decided to retire and travel he would appoint someone trustworthy as his proxy.
As for children, well he could adopt.
Besides, Rimuru had Ciel, his confidant and eternal partner. With her, Rimuru would never be alone. Even if his friends were to disappear, Ciel would be with him in all of life's challenges until the end.
Rimuru and Ciel had gotten closer over the last few years. Before Ciel would only speak to Rimuru when she was needed. Gradually, she had opened up to him and nowadays they spoke to one another about almost anything whenever they pleased. She went from calling his 'Master' to being one of the only few to call him just 'Rimuru'.
It was more than ten years after the war that Rimuru found himself reminiscing with Ciel about his old life.
Looking back, it had been painfully mediocre.
"Were you unhappy?" Ciel asked.
Rimuru had to think about it. His old life had been pretty good considering the cruelty of the world. He had grown up in a middle class family and was able to independently support himself after graduating from College while working his way up the ladder at a General Contracting Company.
While he did have people he could call friends in that life, Mikami Satoru had not been close with anyone, not even his parents. His relationship with his elder brother had stagnated over time. Despite being both handsome and financially stable, he could not even get a girlfriend despite his best efforts.
Rimuru had always thought it meant he had a bad personality. But after dying, he discovered that this wasn't actually the case. He was just too honest with his feelings and oblivious when it came to the feelings of others.
"Not unhappy," Rimuru decided, "but I guess I was lonely."
"You're not alone. I am here for you." Ciel asserted her words by sending him a pulse of reassuring emotions.
Rimuru smiled at that and instantly felt comforted, "Yeah. You're right. Thanks Ciel."
Even so, there was something that had been on Rimuru's mind for a while.
"Ciel, I am able to travel to any point in time and space correct?"
"That is correct. As long as you have the needed Magicules, time and space are no barrier to you," Ciel answered.
"Then if I were to travel to the time I died and saved myself, what would happen?"
"If you stop yourself from dying, your current self and past self will merge with your memories intact, however this world will be rewritten as if you've never reincarnated."
Shit. A time paradox. Abort Abort. With great power comes great responsibility indeed.
Sigh, "So there's no way for me to see how my old life may have played out had I survived."
"There is a way."
Rimuru perked up, "Oh? Let's hear it Ciel-sensei."
"You can travel to the past and allow yourself to die so that your past soul can reincarnate. You can then save yourself by using [Multiple Parallel Existence] to transfer a part of your consciousness to your old body and live out that life as Mikami Satoru."
Rimuru felt a burst of glee at the idea of returning to Earth. "Yosh, let's try this out. Maybe this time, I'd finally find a beautiful woman to marry and have children with." He then sent a message to all his executives to come to the meeting room.
Ciel said nothing to this. However, she felt a feeling of displeasure burn uncomfortably in her core when her Master said he hoped to find a beautiful woman to marry. She tried to shake off the feeling but it persisted.
For Ciel, emotions were tricky and often caused her to act irrationally. Sometimes she didn't understand it, which is saying a lot as she was a core born from the Lord of Wisdom. In this world, there is very little that Ciel did not understand.
One such case was when her Master unconsciously flirted or was attracted by another woman's beauty. Ciel would feel her displeasure erupt and she would act by advising her Master in a way that would create distance between him and the women involved.
This could not continue.
If her Master wanted to create children the natural way it was to be expected that he would need to be intimate with a woman since there was no other option available if Rimuru wished for children of his own blood.
Ciel would need to push her emotions aside in order to make her Master's wish come true.
…..
All of Rimuru's executives have gathered in the main meeting room. He explains to them his plan to journey back in time to save his past self.
"Rimuru-sama! Please take us with you!" Shion and Shuna were both sad and clung to him.
Rimuru sighed and gently pried them off. He didn't want to think about it, but ever since they started competing for the position of his first wife they had both become clingier. At this rate, his slime self would be torn in two. "I will be taking Diablo with me. I need the rest of you to stay behind and take care of Tempest."
Diablo seemed to sparkle at being chosen and bowed to Rimuru, "I'm honoured, Rimuru-sama."
"Rimuru-sama, how long do you plan to be away?" Benimaru asked.
Rimuru thought and answered, "Hmm, a week at most. Just to make sure there aren't any problems."
Now is a good time for a break, Rimuru thought. All the complications that arose after the Great Tenma War have been more or less smoothed out. Tempest was continuing to prosper. His Executives could survive a week without him.
"In any case, if our allies or friends arrive unexpectedly for a visit, let them know I'm taking care of something important this week and that they're welcome to stay in Tempest as our VIP guests until I return."
"Yes Rimuru-sama." They replied in unison.
"You're dismissed."
Rimuru prepared for his trip. He stored a bag of one thousand Gold coins in his stomach. He would be relying on Diablo's negotiation skills in order to convert the Gold to Yen. Having gotten used to a life of luxury, Rimuru didn't think he could revert back to his old lifestyle without feeling dissatisfied. One thousand gold coins should be more than enough to set his human self up for life.
Rimuru wasn't entirely certain that there was no one who knew about the existence of Magic on Earth. Or that Earth was completely void of Magic Users.
"Ciel, do you think that there is any Magic Born on Earth?"
"Analyzing. The chances of there being Magic born on Earth is less than 30%. Currently, humans on Earth are restricted from cultivating magic and gaining skills by the laws of the world."
"Why do you think that is?"
"Earth's law was put into place by Veldanava. Perhaps Veldanava wanted to create a world where humans did not rely on magic. Although there does not seem to be Magic Born, there seems to be a high number of otherworlders and reincarnators on Earth who were Magic Born in their previous lives."
Rimuru wondered if that was how humans on Earth knew so much about Magical Beings as they were portrayed in the media. It would make sense if the stories that were told through the ages were based on encounters with otherworlders or knowledge obtained through reincarnation.
"Would Diablo or I be affected?" It would be troubling if either of them were unable to use Magic. For one, they'd be stuck in that world.
"No. You are too powerful to be restricted by worldly laws. Those who have your blessing will also not be affected." Ciel replied, her tone smug.
That was reassuring.
Alright. Let's do this.
"Diablo."
"Rimuru-sama." Diablo appeared at his side. Rimuru placed his hand on his subordinate's shoulder and closed his eyes.
"Ciel, transport us to Fukuoka City, 10th November 2012."
For a moment, time stood still. And then, the world seemed to reverse as they shot through time and space in an instant.
…..
"Kukukuku. So this is the world Rimuru-sama came from. Interesting. I can't sense a hint of magicules from these humans, yet the planet emits magicules." Diablo said while looking around. The demon was wearing casual clothes and a pair of shades to hide his eyes in order to fit in the crowd.
It was indeed interesting, Rimuru thought. Earth's spirits were still very much active in the land, and yet according to Ciel humans here were unable to cultivate or gain skills because Earth's laws restricted it.
It was a mystery Rimuru would like to probe in the future with his subordinates once they invent the technology to travel to outer space. Veldanava had created so many worlds aside from the main Cardinal World, it would be a shame not to explore them.
They were walking through the city at a leisurely pace. Soon they will reach the street where Mikami Satoru was to be murdered. Civilians stopped and stared when they passed by, not because they thought Rimuru and Diablo were strange, but because Rimuru was an ethereal beauty and Diablo a handsome man.
Then they saw it. A mad man stormed down the street. Clutched in his hand was a machete which he positioned in front of him, uncaring of hurting anyone who was unfortunate enough to be in his way.
"Tamura!"
Stab.
"Senpai! Hang in there!"
In the next moment, his past self received a lethal blow and the madman got away.
Rimuru didn't stop Diablo from disappearing from his side in pursuit of his murderer. He only hoped Diablo didn't leave any evidence behind from his torture session. It shouldn't be a problem if Diablo tsukuyomis' his murderer with his skill World of Temptation though.
Rimuru pushed through the crowd unseen and watched with morbid fascination as the soul, his soul, slowly faded from this world to be reborn as a Slime in the next.
"Rimuru, it's time." Ciel said.
Rimuru tapped Tamura on his shoulder, "Hey Tamura, you're in the way."
"Hah?! How do you know my name?" Tamura turned around to snap at the stranger who dared to use his name without an honorific while his friend had just died in front of him, but fell speechless when he saw the beautiful Goddess in front of him. "I… ah…"
"Tsk tsk. If you don't move, how am I supposed to save him?" Rimuru pushed his old friend aside and knelt beside his otherworlder body. He then used Multiple Parallel Existence to split his consciousness and transfer it to his otherworlder body. A gasp of breath parted his other self's lips as his chest began to rise and fall as the first sign of life.
"Success," Ciel confirmed for him.
Just one more thing, Humans feel pain. That would be too troublesome when I wake up. Rimuru took out a Full Recover Potion from his stomach and fed it to his other self.
"Oi! What are you doing?" Tamura said from behind him.
"Oh, Tamura. From now on, properly respect your senpai and don't think of showing off, alright? Also, I will do something about the PC myself so cancel that request!"
"Ehh?!"
Flashing a grin at Tamura's confused expression, Rimuru left the place.
And watched from further away as an ambulance came to take his otherworlder body away.
…..
Rimuru knew the exact moment when his other self had woken up in the hospital. It felt a bit weird being present in two places at once, but manageable.
"Ciel, can you unsync me from other me?"
"Yes. Unsyncing now."
Rimuru had just broken into his old apartment using the key he stole from his otherworlder body. He looked around feeling nostalgic. The apartment had a lot of memories and he's had it ever since his early 20s. It was small and exactly what you expect from a bachelor's apartment in Japan, but it had been his.
Rimuru sighed. It's been so long. He's missed it. He stretched his limbs out over his old bed.
"Rimuru?"
"Yeah Ciel?"
"Do you really want a wife and a child?"
"Well… I've missed out on that human experience. And as I am now, this is the only way isn't it?"
"..."
"Oi! By now I know what those silences mean. What's wrong? You can tell me anything."
Ciel didn't reply, but Rimuru knows to wait patiently for her to talk about how she feels.
And then she replied, "I- I am Master's partner right?"
"Yes. You are my partner."
"And you told me, we'll be together forever? Sharing each other's burdens?"
"I did." Rimuru didn't know why Ciel was stating the obvious. It wasn't like her to do so. And why was she calling him 'Master' again? He thought they were past that.
"Then I have a request."
Rimuru hummed, "What is it?"
"Let me be your wife."
