Ever since the exam results were posted, Kuroko has been going through something he isn't quite useful at. Being Noticed. He experienced this near the end of the first timeline he went through due to his new and exciting moves on the basketball court. His Vanishing Drive, Phantom Shot, even his Misdirection Overflow. All of the moves mentioned above garnered Kuroko enough attention, especially on the court. He knew he needed a different strategy this time around too. Misdirection was a thing he was useful for one the court, otherwise, he was a hole in the defence.
Kuroko didn't want to rely on Misdirection now that he had a second chance. While he enjoyed being a support player and helping his team to victory, he now knew that it won't last forever, and he will need a back-up plan for whenever it goes away once again.
That was however Kuroko's least concern at the moment. From either being started in the hallways, a teacher asking to answer a question in class, students asking him to join his study group or to tutor them. It was getting annoying, especially for someone who never had to deal with it. Getting to class without much attention had also turned impossible.
Even with all the attention, Kuroko could not say that he wasn't completely hating it. While misdirection was interesting to learn and to use (Especially when Kuroko would surprise someone), it also almost served as some barrier between him and others. That would be hard for anybody, especially a child growing up. That was one of the reasons Kuroko assumed he latched onto Aomine's friendship, while they both enjoyed basketball and various other activities, it was Aomine and his attitude about Kuroko's effort that he really enjoyed. It was the first time someone told him he could do it, well, someone other than Ogiwara.
Another reason why Kuroko would repeat the same action with his exam is what came out of it. As promised, Nijimura gave him spare keys to the third gym, even if he was a bit on the dramatic side, Kuroko was still very thankful. He never really communicated or talked to Nijimura the first time around, and was glad he got the chance to rectify that. It also was great to have the keys to the gym, especially now with all the attention he was receiving, it was great to practice somewhere where at least someone was watching you.
Nijimura came to join Kuroko for practice once and a while and he gave some useful help when he was there. It was also fun to hear about what was happening in the first string. Especially before the G.O.M. skills blossomed.
One day after school, while Kuroko and Nijimura are walking to the first and third string gyms:
"You know Kuroko, we always talk about me and what's happening in the first string, why don't we ever talk about what is happening in your life?" Nijimura said
"There isn't much to say about Nijimura-Senpai. I just want to focus on my goal of making the first string and I don't have that much of an interesting life."
"That can't be true Kuroko, everyone has something interesting, maybe not to them but to someone else. The only thing I know about you is your name, your facial features, your grade, your hair colour, and you are a human being. I am even questioning the last part. I still can't believe a human being could have had your amount of presence. You also seem to be some basketball monster. In fact, if someone said that you had dreams about basketball, I would believe it. Just tell me something, anything. Do you have any siblings, what's your favorite colour, what do you want to do in the future, a job or something completely different?"
"I am an only child, my favorite colour Blue (Who would of guessed that) and I am trying to change the future when I am older"
The pair kept walking towards their respective destinations in silence after that. Nijimura is happy he learned something about his favorite kohai, and Kuroko feeling happy he has someone to talk to even after everything that happened. The silence would not last long however, as it was interrupted by someone calling to them
"NIJIMURA-SENPAI!" Someone who's voice Kuroko would recognize from anywhere.
"WHAT TAKING YOU SO LONG?!"
Almost at a supernatural speed, a blue haired individual ran up to the pair. "I have been waiting forever for you to get here, today is the day I will finally beat you and claim the position "Ace".
The pair had a very different reaction, Nijimura almost immediately put Aomine into a playful head-lock, and scolded him for being rude to his favore Kohai, while Kuroko seemed to a mini panic attack being confronted by one of someone he use to call his best friend, a reaction that was not gone unnoticed by Nijimura.
"Ugh, is this some way to treat your teammate?" Aomine manages to pull himself out of the headlock.
After recovering for a couple of seconds "What do you mean by being rude to your favorite Kohai? First of all, I thought I was your favorite, and second of all, there is no one else here."
Nijimura has gotten quite used to this, but it still amuses him when people can't even recognize when Kuroko is in front of them.
*Ahem*
Aomine looks beside Nijimura and see's Kuroko, then blinks, then rubs his eyes, pinches himself. After making sure he is not sleeping or hallucinating, he has the appirote reaction anyone would have…
"AH, A GHOST" or maybe not
"I am not a ghost Aomine-kun, I am a living person with a pumping heart and blood running through my veins like yourself"
Kuroko could would also say if you asked him that Nijimura cough suspiciously sounded like "That still has yet to be proven"
"I am sorry about that, you have such a low presence I didn't notice you, but wait… HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?"
"Don't be rude Aomine, I am in your homeroom class after all"
Aomine was completely shocked, he had never seen this guy in his life, and he claimed that he was in his class? Unbelievable… Although, there has been that empty desk behind in the class that no one sits at, but between basketball and studying for the exam, he never really paid any attention
"Hehe, so what is your name again?" Aomine asking somewhat embarrassed
"Kuroko, Kuroko Tetsuya"
"Kuroko… Kuroko…" where did Aomine hear that name before
*Que Flashback*
"AOMINE!" a pink headed girl ran into Aomine knocking him down
"Get off me Satsuki, my are you even running to me anyways?"
"The mock exams came back Aomine"
"Why didn't you say that in the first place"
Aomine rushed to see his exams, he knew that if he didn't pass, he would be banned from all practice until the next exam, something he would never let happen
Once he arrived, at the exam scores, he had to push past everybody only to find...
"I PASSED" happy wouldn't put to justice how Aomine felt right then
"I knew you would pass Aomine-kun"
While Aomine and Satsuki were celebrating, Midorima was doing the complete opposite. Midorima didn't fail, he came 3rd, which most people would be celebrating, but not Midorima, he only had one thing to say: "Curse you… Kuroko"
Nijimura and Kuroko has no idea what to do until while Aomine was just staring into nothing, they decided to keep walking into until they stopped again once Aomine started talking again
"YOUR THAT GUYS WHO BEAT MIDORIMA ON THE EXAM SCORES, you're a genius!"
"I am not a genius Aomine, I merely studied and payed attention to class, anyone could of done as well as me, they just didn't have the right motivation perhaps"
"What was your motivation then"
Nijimura decided to but in here, "I promised him a set of keys for the third string gym if he came in the top, and he decided to go beyond and got second!
"So you like basketball as well, are you second string or third?
"Second"
"So you are trying to reach first, are you any good?"
"I am nowhere near you"
"That doesn't matter, all that matters is if you love baseball, can I join your private training sessions, I bet I could help and I would love the extra practice"
Just as Kuroko was about to deny, Nijimura spoke once again
"That's a great idea, you guys would get along great, both of you love the game! Aren't I such a great Sempai for introducing you two?"
Kuroko didn't say anything, just when Aomine was about to speak, the first string coach called them over:
"Nijimura and Aomine, practice is about to start, get over here!"
They quickly dashed to get to practice leaving Kuroko to wonder what he ever did to deserve this.
Author's Note: Hello anyone reading this. I am alive, I just lost motivation to write this (CLiche, I know and I am sorry), but I have been watching anime and decided to try to start this up again. I cannot promise you any schedule, but I can promise I will do my best. As always, leave any comments or any constructive criticism in the comment section, and I hope you enjoy this chapter!
