A/N - Yes, yes, another new story. This one popped into my head and just would not leave me alone. I wanted to try my hand at writing a My Hero Academia fic, and this idea just stuck with me.
Fair warning, there is attempted suicide in this chapter. I apologize in advance for those of you who have personal experiences with yourselves or loved ones that have either attempted to or have committed suicide. For myself, I've lost loved ones to suicide, and I've been friends with people that have attempted it before. So I assure you, it wasn't easy to write this chapter. But it was a necessary element.
I honestly think the chapter turned out pretty well, but I'll let you all be the judge of that. I don't know if this idea has been done before, but I'm sure it has. Like I said though, this idea just stuck with me. I hope you enjoy the beginning of this story and will be looking forward to more. Thank you.
Chapter 1 – Immortality
The sweet embrace of death. That's all Izuku Midoriya wished for as he stared down at the alleyway below. Today had been one of the worst days of his life. Oh, who was he kidding? This was probably…definitely…the worst day he could ever remember having.
As the green-haired individual stared down at the pavement below, he couldn't stop the small, almost unnoticeable smirk from gracing his face. For some reason, he found a dry sense of humor in the whole situation. For so long, he had dreamed about becoming a hero. That's all he had ever wanted to be. And the world's number one hero, a man going by the name of All Might, was his idol. All Might was someone he looked up to and wanted to emulate as he went down his path to becoming a hero himself. Sadly…that was not to be.
As Izuku thought back on the events leading up to this moment, he could feel tears brimming in his eyes. Everything had gone so wrong from this morning leading up to his meeting with the legendary hero himself: All Might. Maybe Kacchan…Bakugo. Maybe Bakugo was right, after all.
Earlier that morning, Izuku had been sitting in his class at Aldera Junior High, minding his own business as he usually did. However, things quickly took a turn for the worst when the teacher ratted him out as someone that was going to try out for U.A., the most prestigious high school throughout Japan, and hell, the entire world! It was where all the top heroes learned how to excel at their chosen professions, whether that was as a hero in the spotlight, an underground hero like Eraser Head, or even studying in the support course to create all manner of gadgets and other wonderful items for heroes to use.
Needless to say, Izuku's bully, a lad named Katsuki Bakugo, was furious with Izuku for even thinking about applying to U.A. High School. He began making threats and small explosions kept bursting in his hands to show how agitated he was with Izuku in that very moment. However, Izuku kept his head down and just did his best to ignore it all, as he so often did.
It was after school let out that things really started to turn sour. Bakugo had snatched one of the green-haired boy's notebooks and proceeded to use his quirk to ruin it before tossing it out the window to the ground below. However, Izuku refused to let Bakugo see him cry and waited until the bully left. Afterwards, he proceeded to search for his notebook, being rather pleased that it seemed to be okay, despite the abuse the poor thing had suffered at Katsuki's hands.
Sad to say, that was only the start of his rotten day. Deciding to take a walk and do what he could to calm himself after having such a stressful day, Izuku was ill prepared for what happened next. As he walked through a tunnel, a villain he could only describe as sludge attacked him. He wasn't sure what to do, and no matter how hard he struggled against his captor, the sludge villain was suffocating him and trying its best to take over his body. It got so bad that he passed out. After all, he was losing air quickly and all the blood was rushing to his head. He was in a panic as his mind worked overtime trying to find any way out of such a horrible predicament.
Upon coming to, Izuku was shocked to see All Might standing before him, a broad smile on his face. It turned out that the mighty hero had rescued him from the sludge monster. He had even given Izuku an autograph while he was unconscious! The hero had made his day so much better in a matter of moments. However, try as he might, Izuku was having a hard time trying to ask All Might an important question. So, without thinking things through, the green-haired teen wrapped his arms around All Might as he leapt into the sky.
Upon landing on a rooftop, Izuku had to take a few moments to get his nerves under control. After all, what he had just done was probably the dumbest thing he had ever done. After all, if he had loosened his grip even a tad, he would have fallen to his doom. It wouldn't have been a pretty death.
As Izuku went to ask All Might his important question, he was soon caught off guard when, in a puff of smoke, All Might had essentially deflated into a rather thin, gaunt-looking man. What followed was quite the revelation, as the man, All Might, he had to remind himself, explained what was going on. The injury he revealed to Izuku was horrible and Izuku's mind went into overdrive as he listened and began to think over everything he had been told.
After some time had passed, Izuku pressed forward and decided to finally ask the question that he desperately needed some kind of answer to. So, taking a deep breath in and releasing it slowly, the green-haired teen took a step forward and asked, "Is it possible for me to become a hero like you? I don't have a quirk. I'm not even strong. But I still believe I can be a great hero if I try! So…can I, a quirkless nobody, become a hero like you?"
All Might's answer to the question decided Izuku's fate for him. It was an answer he had seen coming, and yet he hoped beyond hope that the symbol of peace would have believed in him…at least to an extent. "No. Someone without a quirk has no chance of making it as a hero." The man had continued speaking, but Izuku wasn't listening anymore. His dreams had been crushed and his mind was whirring at an insane pace.
As soon as All Might left, tears began to trickle down Izuku's cheeks. Today was officially the worst day of his life. It was then, in this moment, that Katsuki's words replayed themselves in his head, further cementing his decision as he stepped closer to the edge of the rooftop. "Sure, you can be a hero. Go and take a swan dive off of the roof and pray that you'll be born with a powerful quirk in your next life."
Staring down at the pavement below, Izuku breathed in and out, doing his best to calm his nerves. Okay. I'm sorry mom. I truly am. But… Tears continued to trickle down his cheeks as he made his decision. I just can't take it anymore. All the bullying. All the abuse. All the pain. My dream was stupid. I was stupid. I can't believe I ever thought a quirkless nobody like me could ever be a hero. Oh well. There's no turning back for me now. And with that, Izuku stepped off the edge and plummeted to the ground below.
As he fell, Izuku couldn't help but smile sadly. It'll all be over soon. Goodbye. Shortly after this thought, Izuku hit the ground. Bones were broken, brain matter was leaking onto the ground beside and underneath him, his legs were clearly broken, and more such injuries could be seen. To anyone that might have been watching, it would appear as if the young man was dead. However…
Izuku blinked his eyes a couple of times, unable to comprehend what he was feeling. He should be dead! And yet…
Trying to move his limbs, Izuku soon let out a pained yell. Tears were streaming down his cheeks. And yet, through all of the pain, he could feel his body slowly piecing itself back together. It hurt like hell and left one hell of a burning sensation, but his body was repairing itself. When it was finally done, he slowly tested his limbs, seeing if he could move them without feeling the excruciating pain he had felt before. Satisfied that he would be alright, he pushed himself up and began to brush himself off.
Then, he noticed it. Looking at the ground before him, Izuku's eyes widened and he began to shake in absolute fear. No. There's no way. This can't be possible!
There, on the ground, was a puddle of blood and, if he wasn't mistaken, some of his brain matter. Taking a few more deep, calming breaths, his mind began to reel as he tried to figure out what the hell had just happened to him.
"Okay Izuku, think. I fell. I killed myself. At least, that's what should have happened. Judging by the blood and…brain…I clearly succeeded, to an extent. But…what the heck went wrong? Think." The green-haired teen muttered to himself. It was then that it came to him.
Looking himself over, Izuku began to pat himself down, feeling for anything that might be out of place or broken. After he was satisfied with his investigation, his eyes widened and a smile soon took hold of his facial features. "I do have a quirk. Or rather, maybe I have two. High speed regeneration seems to be one of my quirks. But that doesn't explain why I didn't die. Even with a speedy regeneration quirk, that fall should have killed me. I hate to say this, but I might need to test this out a bit more. I need to confirm my theory…"
Taking a moment to think it over, he frowned and looked down at his hands. Immortality. That's the only thing I can think of that would make any kind of sense here. If I'm right, then I literally cannot die. Again, I'll have to test the theory to see if I'm correct. But… Here, Izuku sighed heavily and shook his head. "My mom would never let me test such a theory. She'll be upset enough as it is once I break the news to her about my quirks. Heck, even entering our home, she'll see all the blood covering my clothes. Guess I can't hide the truth from her any longer."
Picking up his belongings, which had miraculously not suffered any serious damage, he began to make his way towards home. Shortly after he took his first step, however, he heard quite the commotion coming from a few blocks away. It sounded like explosions. His first response was to investigate and see what was happening. After all, he still loved heroes and wanted to see them in action. However…
Looking down at his bloodied clothes, Izuku shook his head and said, "No. I don't want to deal with that nonsense right now. I need to get home and talk to my mom. Maybe even see a doctor to see if we can figure out exactly what's going on with me." So, decision made, he began his trek home. Little did he know that, some distance away, his bully was under attack by the very sludge villain that had attacked him earlier in the day.
Midoriya Household
The walk home had been rather awkward. He had received numerous stares and even heard people murmuring to each other about him. It wasn't surprising, considering all the blood he was literally drenched in.
Now, however, he was standing at his front door, debating with himself on whether he should enter or not. Releasing a heavy sigh after some time, he let himself in and greeted his mother with a simple: "I'm home, Mom."
When his mother, a short, slightly chubby woman, turned to greet her son, her eyes widened in horror and she hurried over to him. "Izuku! What happened to you?! Did somebody hurt you? Tell me who it was and I'll deal with it personally! Nobody hurts my baby and gets away with it!"
Placing his hands gently, yet firmly on his mother's shoulders, he looked her dead in the eyes and said, "Mom. We need to talk." Seeing her nod in understanding, he led her over to the couch and sat down beside her. Gently taking her hands into his, he began to explain. "Mom, what I'm going to talk about won't be easy for you to hear. I want to apologize in advance. So, I'm sorry, Mom. I want you to know right now that I love you. I look up to you. I never wanted to let you down."
"Izuku, honey, you're scaring me. What happened? Tell me everything." Inko said pleadingly.
Taking a breath in and letting it out slowly, Izuku began his tale. "Mom, Bakugo and I haven't been friends for a very, very long time now. In fact, after he unlocked his quirk, he turned into a bully. And it got worse when we found out I was quirkless. I was his favorite target, and he bullied and hurt me a lot. I tried my best to hide it from you, because I didn't want you or Auntie Mitsuki to worry. So I pretended that everything was fine, and I tried to pretend that Katsuki was still a friend. But…as we got older, the abuse got worse. Earlier today…he told me to jump off a roof and kill myself. He said that if I did that…I might be born with a quirk in my next life."
Inko's eyes widened in horror and she let out a horrified gasp. As tears began to stream down her cheeks, she grasped her boy's hands in hers and asked, "Please tell me you didn't try? Please…"
Closing his eyes for a time, Izuku had to think over what he wanted to say next. After going quiet for some time, he managed to open his eyes and continue with his tale. "I decided to take the long way home earlier. I ended up being attacked by what I can only describe as a sludge villain. I was suffocating. I was rescued, but not before I lost consciousness. When I came to, All Might was standing before me. He was the one to save me."
Breathing a sigh of relief, Inko smiled softly at her son and said, "Well that's good. Right?" Seeing the look in her son's eyes, the petite woman's eyes widened and she began to shake. "That's good…right honey?"
Izuku sighed and shook his head. "I tried to ask him a question, but he was in a hurry. I clung onto his leg as he leapt into the air…"
Inko glared into her son's eyes and said, "Honey, you could have gotten yourself killed! That was awfully reckless of you."
Sighing again, Izuku nodded his head. "I know, Mom. But we landed safely on a rooftop downtown. Mom, something happened on that rooftop. He told me the truth about himself and showed me something I didn't expect to see. But that's not important. What is important is what happened next. Mom, I asked All Might if I could be a hero, despite not having a quirk. All Might…shot down my dream and told me I could never be a hero."
Gasping, Inko wrapped her arms around her son and began to shake as she clung to him. "Sweetie, I'm so sorry. To hear something like tha—" Eyes widening, Inko leaned back and looked into his eyes, a horrified expression on her face. "Sweetie…does this have anything to do with why you're covered in blood?"
Unable to look his mother in the eyes, Izuku slowly nodded. "Yes, Mom. I couldn't take it anymore. All the bullying and all the abuse I had suffered through, and then All Might's words? Mom…I jumped off of that rooftop. I tried to kill myself. But, I want you to know that my last thoughts were of you."
Tears trickling down her cheeks, Inko shook her head in disbelief, trying to explain to herself that everything was alright. That her baby boy didn't try to take his life. That this was all one horrible nightmare.
"Mom, this isn't a nightmare. I'm sorry. But…" Frowning deeply, Izuku decided to just come out and say it. "Mom, I have quirks. Plural. My body regenerated and repaired itself. I was able to stand up and brush myself off like everything was fine. I'm going to call that quirk High Speed Regeneration. But, even with that, I should have died after hitting the ground. Mom, I think I have an Immortality quirk. I'd have to test it, but…"
Before he could continue with that line of thought, Inko spoke up, interrupting her son. "Izuku, sweetheart, you will NOT be 'testing' yourself to see if you really are immortal. I'm thankful you're alive after all you've been through, but I will not tolerate you hurting yourself on purpose just to test the limits of your newly awakened quirks." After a moment, what they were saying finally registered and her eyes went wide. "You have quirks! My baby boy can be a hero!"
Izuku giggled to himself and said, "That's the plan, Mom. But I'll really need to toughen up if I want to pass the U.A. entrance exam. I need to study hard and work even harder from now on. I may have some, erm…wonderful quirks, but without the strength to back it up, I'm likely to just be a liability on the field. I don't want to slow anyone down, and I want to prove myself to the world that I can be a hero, even if I'm not super strong or capable of great feats like other heroes. And…"
"And what, sweetie?" Inko questioned.
"I think it's time I sell all of my All Might memorabilia. After today, I just don't need it anymore. I can't even look at him the same way after today. I'll be a great hero, but not like him. I'll help people in need, just like some heroes do. I don't need to specialize in combat to help those in need, after all." Izuku explained.
"Honey, are you sure? I believe in you sweetie, I really do, but is this what you really want?" Inko asked.
"Yes, Mom. Even with my quirks, combat would be rough, for lack of a better term. I'm not exactly strong, but I'll work hard to overcome my weaknesses and become the kind of hero you could be proud of. I…I want you to be able to say that your little boy grew up to be one of the greatest heroes ever. And I think I have an idea on how I can work out and put on some muscle instead of this baby fat."
"Sweetheart, I'm already proud of you. I always have been. I haven't been the greatest mother, I know that, but I never once doubted you or your dream. You're the light of my life and I couldn't be any prouder of you than I am already. But do tell me, what's this idea of yours?" Inko questioned.
"You know Takoba Municipal Beach Park, right?" Seeing his mother nod, Izuku grinned at her and said, "I'm going to work myself to the bone to clean up the beach. I'm going to make it a beautiful place again. It won't be easy, but I know I can do it. And, like I said, it'll help me build up some muscle in the process. But I also need to learn some kind of self-defense. So, do you think we could look into some dojos nearby and see about studying martial arts? I'll definitely need all the help I can get if I want to get into U.A."
Smiling at her son, Inko nodded her head and said, "That sounds wonderful, Izuku. I'm sure we'll find the perfect place for you to learn. And I think it's wonderful that you're going to clean up the beach. I'll come with you and cheer you on. Okay sweetie?"
Izuku chuckled lightly and said, "Of course, Mom. Now, I think I should probably take a bath. And maybe throw away these clothes. I'm covered in blood, after all."
Inko nodded in agreement. "Thankfully it's all dried up, otherwise I'd say you owe me a new couch." She teased. When her son smiled in response, she gently patted his cheek and said, "Go and get cleaned up. I'll make your favorite tonight in celebration for you unlocking your quirks. But you should know that I'm taking you to see the doctor first thing tomorrow morning. I'll let your school know that you won't be in tomorrow."
Izuku chuckled again and said, "I figured. I love you, Mom."
"I love you too, sweetie. Now shoo, shoo. Go clean yourself up mister."
Smiling at his mom, Izuku soon stood up and left to go and take a bath. Once he was out of sight, Inko's face morphed into a fierce glare and she stomped to the phone, taking it off the charger and dialing a number. When the person on the other end picked up, Inko said, "Mitsuki, we need to have a talk."
The Next Day
The doctor frowned as he looked over the test results. None of it made any sense! Setting the clipboard down, he pinched the bridge of his nose to try and stem off the growing headache before it could get any worse.
Inko frowned at him and folded her arms across her chest. "Well? What do the test results say? Don't you think you've kept us waiting long enough?"
Releasing a frustrated sigh, the doctor looked first at Izuku before turning his gaze to Mrs. Midoriya. "Ma'am, I'm sorry for keeping you waiting in suspense. But none of this makes any sense. Your son does, indeed, have two quirks instead of just the one that most people have. But, he was essentially quirkless until just yesterday, it would seem. According to the tests that were ran the last time you came in to check back when he was a small child, Izuku has two joints in his pinky toe instead of the one most people are born with. The results are still the same now. And yet, even with the evidence pointing towards him being quirkless, Izuku has not just one, but two quirks."
"As far as I can tell, Izuku's first quirk is an incredibly powerful regeneration quirk. From what you've told us, you recovered from injuries that should have killed you. Hell, even a hero like All Might wouldn't be able to survive such injuries." The doctor said, completely missing Izuku's and Inko's eyes narrowing at the name of the world's number one hero. "The major drawback of such a quirk is the fact that your son will still feel the pain of his injuries. While he can heal from pretty much anything, and potentially regrow limbs should they be severed for some reason, he'll still feel incredible pain from such injuries. However, small injuries like paper cuts or a scratch by an animal will hardly phase him."
"It's the second quirk that has me truly stumped, however. According to what I've heard and the tests we've ran, your son has a type of Immortality quirk. There don't appear to be any drawbacks to such a powerful quirk, at least not any that we can see. However…" the doctor paused here, not quite sure how to break the news to the worried mother and child.
"However…what, doctor? What's the problem?" Izuku asked, unable to deal with the suspense any longer.
"With such a quirk, you'll outlive everyone you know and love. You literally cannot die. You'll never grow old either. You'll have to watch as your mother and friends grow old and die. And…" the doctor sighed and massaged the bridge of his nose. "There's no guarantee that your immortality quirk will be passed down to your children. For all we know, your children could inherit the mother's quirk and not either of yours. So, you may even outlive your children. I'm sorry."
These words shook both Midoriya's to their core. Looking into one another's eyes, the duo soon hugged each other tight and let the tears flow. The doctor stood up and said, "I'll leave you two alone for now. You're free to leave when you're ready." And with that, he left the room to go and attend to his other patients.
Back in the room, Inko looked into her son's eyes and smiled sadly at him. "It's okay Izuku. I promise."
Izuku shook his head and clung to his mother, the tears continuing to flow. "How can it be okay? I…I…"
Holding her son close and pressing his head against her bosom, she gently patted his back. "It's okay son. Just let it all out. We'll have plenty of time to think things through. Just…let it out." And with that, the dam broke and Izuku sobbed and screamed as he clung to his mother. The entire time, she rubbed circles in his back and smiled sadly down at her son. My poor boy. I promise this: I'll never leave you. Even when I die, I'll always watch over you.
The Next Day – Aldera Junior High
After the stressful events of the past few days, Izuku just wanted to rest and relax while he could. His mind was still reeling from everything he had been through, and he wasn't sure how much more he could take. Sadly, peace seemed to be an unattainable goal for poor Izuku.
"DEKU! The hell did you tell my mom you damn nerd?!" Katsuki Bakugo exclaimed as he got right up in Izuku's face. "Answer me!"
Izuku watched as small explosions kept sparking from his bully's hands. Sighing, he looked calmly into Bakugo's eyes and said, "Bakugo, I don't know what the hell you're talking about. I never said a word to your mother. Hell, I even took your advice and jumped off the roof of a building, hoping to end it all, just like you said. You want to know what happened then?"
Bakugo's eyes widened in surprise, unaware that the target of his bullying had actually followed through with his 'advice'. Unable to utter a word, he glanced around to see that everyone was listening intently to what was being said. "The hell do you mean you jumped? If you did, you wouldn't be here!"
Izuku laughed ruefully and said, "That's the funny thing Bakugo." There it was again, Bakugo thought. Izuku wasn't calling him Kacchan anymore. It was just plain ol' Bakugo now. Tuning back in again, he listened in a mixture of fascination and abject horror. "I hit the ground…and didn't die. My body was broken…and the pain was unbearable. But then, my body just healed itself. I unlocked my quirks when I tried to end my life. Turns out that I can't die."
"The fuck do you mean by that you nerd?! Nobody could have such a powerful quirk! Let alone two of them!" Bakugo exclaimed angrily.
Sighing sadly, Izuku stood up from his seat and held his arms out to the side. "Go ahead Bakugo. Hit me with your strongest explosion if you don't believe me. I just…I don't care anymore."
Katsuki's eyes widened again and he seriously contemplated attacking Izuku right then and there. However, his mother's angry words and the fact that Deku seemed resigned to his horrible fate, prevented Bakugo from acting. Scoffing, he sat down in his assigned seat and began to drum his fingers against his desk over and over again, his mind reeling from everything he had just heard.
Sitting back down in his seat, Izuku stared at Bakugo for a time before looking back up to the front as the teacher walked in and instructed them to all be quiet. Maybe now you'll leave me alone.
As he took out a notebook, one that he used for schoolwork and the like, Izuku lost himself to his thoughts. Almost as if on auto-pilot, he jotted down notes and continued to solve the various mathematical formulae and other such problems throughout the class. However, as the teacher droned on and on, the quirk analyzer thought over his quirks and the potential applications of such powerful quirks.
As Izuku did this, he almost started mumbling to himself as he so often did while taking notes on quirks and the variety of heroes throughout the world. However, as the class was still in session, he managed to will himself to remain silent. Instead, he took hold of his most recent analysis notebook and began to jot down ideas and possibilities of his quirks. His mother may not want him to 'test' his quirks, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try to figure out their capabilities with a little creative thinking.
When lunchtime finally rolled around, Izuku absentmindedly collected his things and left the classroom, heading for the rooftop so he could just relax and get away from Bakugo and the others that enjoyed picking on him.
As he sat down and withdrew his lunchbox, he began to think again. Idly eating his meal, he thought, Aside from the obvious goals, I also need to either auction off my All Might merchandise or sell them to a pawn shop or something. Actually, auctioning them off might be better. They're probably worth more money that way. Still, do I really want to just give it all away? I… Sighing to himself, Izuku shook his head to free himself from such thoughts. Yes. All Might isn't the kind of hero I thought he was. I don't hate him, but it's hard to place my trust in a man like that. I'll have to talk to my mom about a new hero costume too. I don't want to go around dressed like an All Might action figure. Ugh. None of this is easy, is it?
Upon finishing his lunch, Izuku stood up and walked to the edge of the roof, staring down at the ground below. If I did it again, my mom would not be happy. But how can I test my quirks without experiencing pain? I need to know my own limits and see exactly what I'm capable of. Still, Mom is right. She usually is. Chuckling softly to himself, he turned around, prepared to head back inside. However, standing in his way were Katsuki Bakugo and his lackeys: Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber. Meh, he never bothered to learn their names, nor did he care. "Please just leave me alone."
"No. Deku, I'm here to tell you again: DON'T try to get into U.A. Even if you've unlocked some stupid quirks, you've still got nothing on me!" Stepping up to Izuku, Katsuki began poking him roughly in the chest. "I won't tell you again Deku. If you're smart, you'll do as I said and off yourself here and now. I don't buy into this immortality crap you made up before. I want you to get lost!"
Closing his eyes for the time being, Izuku breathed in and out slowly in an effort to calm himself down. After he was calm again, he tried to brush past Katsuki and his goons, only for Katsuki to grab the green-haired boy by the arm and throw him against the railing. "Where do you think you're trying to go Deku? I'm not finished with you yet!"
Izuku leveled such a nasty glare on Bakugo that it froze the goon squad in place for a time. After all, it was so unexpected from Deku that they never saw it coming! Seeing this, Bakugo growled angrily and lunged at Izuku, firing off an explosion in his face.
As Izuku screamed from the pain, he didn't realize he had been sent flying off of the rooftop until he hit the ground below. Groaning, the boy lay there in a heap, his legs broken and his neck snapped upon impact with the ground.
The Tweedle Dee duo stared in horror at what had just happened. "Bakugo, the fuck did you just do?! You just killed someone!"
Katsuki's eyes were wide as he quickly rushed to the edge, staring down at his victim. For a while, it really appeared as if Izuku Midoriya had perished. However, after a moment, Izuku's body began to heal at a rapid pace. When the nerd rose to his feet and brushed himself off, Bakugo began to sweat. No fucking way. That's not possible!
Goons #1 and #2 watched for a moment as Katsuki began to shake. "Hey, Bakugo, you okay?" Getting no response, they joined their friend at his side and peered over the edge. What they saw would give them nightmares. Izuku stood there, staring right up into their eyes as calm as can be. He wasn't moving, he wasn't even saying anything, he just stood there watching them. However, this simple act left them paralyzed in fear. Just what the hell is this guy?!
Down below, Izuku turned away after a crowd began to form around him. Brushing them off and ignoring their questions of if he was alright and what happened and so on and so forth. He just didn't care. At least, not until the principal himself stopped him and said, "Midoriya, we need to have a talk. Follow me to my office."
Sighing to himself, Izuku did as instructed, following after the principal of the school. However, before entering the building, he shot one last look upwards, his gaze piercing Bakugo and his cronies. I know it was an accident, but you've really pissed me off this time, Bakugo.
Once inside the principal's office, Izuku waited for the man to sit down before the green-haired teen sat across from him. Rather than say anything right away, Izuku waited patiently for the man to begin the conversation. After a few minutes, the principal coughed into his hand and looked searchingly into the boy's eyes. "Be honest with me Midoriya. Just what happened out there?"
"I went up to the rooftop to eat my lunch in peace. I'm sick of Bakugo bullying me every chance he gets, so I figured that would be the best place to relax and enjoy my lunch. When I was done, I planned to return to class without incident. However, when I turned around, Bakugo and his goon squad were standing there in my way. We got into an argument of sorts and, when I tried to walk past them, I was shoved back. What happened next was an accident, for the most part. Bakugo attacked me and sent me flying off the rooftop. I hit the ground pretty hard and, if I was a normal person, I would have died. However, I unlocked my quirks a few days ago, and as a result I can't die like normal people would. I know it's hard to believe, but it's the truth." Izuku explained as calmly as he could.
The principal hummed for a moment as he began to think over everything he had just heard. After he had collected his thoughts, the man nodded once, as if he had come to a decision. "We're going to need to sweep this incident under the rug, Midoriya. I feel for you, I do, but Bakugo is our best student and he has the highest chance of getting into U.A. High. I don't want to ruin his chances of being a hero simply because of one minor accident."
Eyebrow twitching angrily, Izuku glared fiercely at the man and said, "So, just as with all the bullying and illegal quirk usage, you're going to try and play off attempted murder as well? Imagine if he did this to somebody else! They'd be DEAD already! Bakugo's actions are that of a villain Principal Henrickson! Do you really, honestly believe that that child's parents wouldn't sue you for this? For endangering their child all to placate some rotten bully? What the hell is wrong with you?!"
The now-named Henrickson glared at Izuku and shook his head. "Well he didn't do this to someone else's child, now did he? Bakugo has a future as a pro hero to look forward to! And when he's become famous, it'll be known to everyone that we helped mold Bakugo into the hero he is. You are a nobody, Midoriya. There's no reason to drag Bakugo's name through the mud just because of an accident that he never meant for it to happen. If you keep questioning me and my decisions, I will expel you on the spot, right here and now. Is that understood?! Now return to class and act as if nothing is wrong. Don't antagonize Bakugo anymore, either. If he and his friends come to me and inform me that you've been harassing them again, I'll expel you."
Without another word, Izuku rose from his chair and left the office. As he walked towards his classroom, he came to a decision that he hoped he wouldn't regret. Mom, it seems we need to have a talk. I believe we need to sue the school board and the principal for reckless endangerment and trying to cover up an assault. I won't tolerate this any longer.
After School – Midoriya Household
"THEY DID WHAT?!" Inko shouted angrily as she gripped her son by his arms, shaking him just slightly. "That's it! I'm filing charges against that boy and the school! I don't care what they have to say for themselves!"
Izuku gently wrapped his arms around his mother and hugged her close. "Thank you, Mom. I don't think I want to go back to that school after everything that's happened. I honestly don't feel safe there anymore. Then again, I've never felt safe or like I belonged."
"Of course sweetheart. Come on, let's go talk to the police and get this all taken care of. Then, I think we should get in contact with a lawyer. I'm not letting this go and I am most definitely not sending you back to that wretched place. If need be, we'll finish your schooling here at home. Home schooling is still a thing, you know?" she said, smiling at her baby boy.
"Thank you Mom." Izuku said before the two of them left their house and proceeded towards the police station. There was no way they were just going to let this go.
Police Station
"Let me get this straight. You're telling me that your classmate…" a police officer started, only for Inko to interrupt him.
"Katsuki Bakugo is no mere 'classmate' of my son's. He's been bullying my little boy ever since his quirk came in. He is not a nice, young man." Inko said somewhat fiercely.
"Of course, ma'am. This Bakugo, he told you to commit suicide?" the police officer questioned Izuku.
"Yes, sir. And…and after meeting All Might, I did try to take my life. I jumped off of a building and, well…I fell. But it turns out that I have two quirks that make dying practically impossible for me." Izuku explained.
"Yes, I remember you mentioning that. Now, from what I understand, Bakugo shoved you off of the roof of your school building. Do I have that right?"
Izuku nodded. "Yes, sir. I don't think he meant to send me over the edge, but the fact remains that he used his quirk on me, illegally, I should add, and sent me over the edge. Once again, I hit the ground and didn't die."
The officer nodded and said, "Alright. Even if it was an accident, it can be ruled as attempted murder and he will be punished quite severely. Now, about this principal?"
"The principal of the school has been covering for Bakugo and all of the abuse he's dished out over the years. After all, Bakugo is their golden boy with an amazing quirk. He's a shoe-in for getting into U.A. High School. The principal would like to take credit for Bakugo's future as a pro hero. The fame and prestige he and the school would receive as a result would be extraordinary and, in his opinion, it'll bring more amazing quirk users to the school. He wants to sweep everything under the rug and pretend like nothing ever happened. In fact, he threatened to expel my son if he kept 'slandering Bakugo's good name' or some such nonsense." Inko explained.
The officer nodded and said, "These are serious charges. Please allow me to consult with the chief about all of this. I'm truly sorry you've had to suffer like this, Mr. Midoriya."
Once the officer had left with his notes to go and speak to the chief of police, Inko took her son's hand in hers and said, "This will all be over soon, sweetheart. I'm sure of it."
Izuku simply squeezed her hand gently and nodded in agreement. "I sure hope so, Mom."
After waiting for about twenty minutes, the police officer and the chief of police returned. Looking into their eyes, the chief of police offered them an apologetic smile. "I want to say that I'm sorry things have gotten to this point. I assure you, we WILL take care of this problem. And, I honestly believe you should sue the school and the board of directors for allowing such abuse to slide under their watchful eyes. From what I understand, however, you are friends with Mrs. Mitsuki Bakugo? I assume you won't attempt to sue her for her son's behavior?"
Inko nodded and said, "Mitsuki has done everything in her power to raise her child right. I do not blame her for the actions of her son. But thank you. Thank you so much."
The chief nodded and said, "Of course, ma'am. I'll see to it personally that Bakugo and the principal are arrested for their crimes. If I have my way, Bakugo will be tried as an adult and be punished to the highest extent of the law. Sadly, I have no real control over that, but I'll still do whatever I can to aid you. And Mr. Midoriya?"
"Y-Yes, sir?"
Offering the boy a smile, the chief said, "You have my sincerest apologies for having to suffer through all of this alone for as long as you have. I don't care that you were quirkless up until now. You're still a citizen of this fine city and nobody should have to go through what you have. Tell me something, though…" Looking into his eyes seriously, the man asked, "You really met All Might? What exactly did he say to you?"
Izuku nodded slowly and lowered his head somewhat, unable to look the man in the eyes. "All Might…shot down my dream of being a hero. When I asked him if someone like me, a nobody with no powers to speak of, could be a hero? He told me that no, there was no way someone without a quirk could ever become a hero. I'm sure he said something else, but those words crushed me and I didn't hear anything else. I'm sorry."
The chief frowned sadly and said, "For what it's worth…I'm sorry. It would seem that even the world's greatest hero has his faults. Such a shame." Taking a breath in and releasing it after a moment, the man continued. "We'll take our leave now. You two should head on home and wait. We'll inform you once we have them both in custody. Though, now that I think on it…"
The officer beside him frowned and asked, "Bakugo…that name sounds familiar. Isn't he the one that was attacked by that sludge villain the other day?"
Snapping his fingers in realization, the chief nodded and said, "Yes, I believe he was. If it hadn't been for All Might showing up at the last possible minute, that boy would likely have perished. But he also caused a great deal of property damage as a result of his explosions." Looking back at the Midoriya's, he frowned and asked, "This boy, will he try to resist arrest?"
"Yes." Inko and Izuku said without any hesitation.
The chief blinked a couple of times before chuckling a bit. "Good to know. Very well. We'll go and pick him up right now. I'll send a few officers to arrest the principal as well. We already have your statements, and you both look rather tired, so you are free to go. We'll keep in touch."
Inko smiled at the man and said, "Thank you very much. Come Izuku, sweetie, let's get you home."
Izuku nodded and thanked the chief and his subordinate before following his mother out of the building. As they made their way towards home, Inko smiled at her son and said, "Tomorrow, we'll start working to make you the strongest person you can be. We're going to ensure you can get into U.A. High, sweetheart."
"Thanks, Mom." The younger Midoriya said with a smile on his face. "You're the best."
Inko smirked at him and nudged his shoulder playfully. "Of course I am. I'm your mom, after all."
Together, the two of them chuckled and smiled together, just enjoying a nice walk home.
Bakugo Household
There was pounding on the front door, which startled Mitsuki. She hadn't been expecting anyone, so she was feeling awfully wary of who could be pounding on her door. Then, she heard the voice announce that they were the police and she needed to open the door. Quickly scurrying to the front door, she yanked it open and bowed before them for a moment. "I'm so sorry for taking so long! But…what happened? Why are the police at my door?" Suddenly, her eyes widened as she glanced back towards her son's room. "What did Katsuki do this time?"
The police gently brushed past her and pointed down the hall. "Sorry ma'am, but we've been instructed to take your son into custody. Is that his room down there?"
Shakily nodding her head, Mitsuki said, "Yes. But…what's going on? Please, tell me!"
While a couple of officers headed towards Katsuki Bakugo's room, the others stayed back with Mitsuki to fill her in on the situation. "Earlier today, we were informed that Katsuki attempted to kill a classmate. The boy is fine, he survived the fall, but the fact remains that Katsuki shoved his victim over the edge of the roof and almost killed him. You are welcome to come with us to the station, if you'd like."
It was at this point that they could hear Katsuki screaming in rage. As the sounds of explosions began to carry throughout the building, Mitsuki hurried down the hall and glared into her son's room. "Katsuki! Stop this at once! You're in enough trouble as it is! Don't add resisting arrest to your list of crimes! I promise, we'll figure this out. Just…just relax and don't struggle. Please!"
"Shut up you old hag! I haven't done a damn thing to warrant an arrest! Now get the hell out of my room, all of you!" Katsuki exclaimed angrily as more explosions sparked from his hands.
Mitsuki could feel tears trickling down her cheeks. She watched, horrified, as her son was pinned to the floor and had quirk-dampening handcuffs slapped around his wrists. As he was dragged out of the building, kicking and screaming, she could only sob, her hands covering her mouth as she watched her son disappear into the back of a police car. My stupid, stupid little boy! What the hell have you done?!
A/N - And that's the end of the first chapter! Again, I hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to whatever comes next. As you can no doubt tell, things are going to be VERY different in this story as compared to canon.
To be perfectly honest...I've been told to kill myself, just like Bakugo told Izuku to do. My own family has tried to convince me to commit suicide before, not to mention bullies and the like. So this is definitely a personal issue for me to write about. Just thinking about those times and everything that's happened to me before...it has me nearly in tears. So I really feel for Izuku. I resonate with him.
Anyways, please be sure to let me know in your reviews, or even via PMs, what you think of this story so far. I'll try to continue it as soon as I can, but there's no guarantees. I've got so much stuff I have to do, it's insane. x.x;
Thank you for reading. Ciao!
