Kagome was aware of the arrival of the Northern Inu Princess, Lady Miyuki, Naoki's sister.
Though she suggested it to Sesshoumaru among her proposals, she was starting to regret her choices, for she felt a pit in her stomach.
Was it a change? Was she so comfortable among the residents here that she couldn't imagine it changing so destructively?
Sesshomaru needed a mate and heir, and it was no business of her's what he did. They were merely allies that had defeated Naraku together and she had married his younger brother, who passed on due to smallpox…
Had she fallen in love with him?
Lady Miyuki joined everyone for breakfast that morning, free from quarantine. She walked over to Rin first and congratulated her on her upcoming nuptials.
Rin was trying to remember her manners but the lady's appearance took her breath away.
Lady Miyuki had silky ebony black hair in a half updo, some strands framing her petite face which had sharp but soft features, and she had the most unique shade of silver/blue eyes, that reminded her of ice crystals.
"Thank you Milady, you flatter me" she responded after a moment.
Miyuki smiled graciously at her before moving towards her seat.
Lord Sesshomaru was late, and when he arrived, he too hesitated in sitting down, instead, he glided over to Miyuki and greeted her personally.
Kagome tried to act non affected, but she wasn't so keen on this one.
Naoki, noticing her discomfort, distracted her with some morning news.
The princess, noticing her brother engaging a human, caught her attention.
"Ah, this must be the Lady Kagome, I've heard so much about. It's lovely to finally meet the Miko who destroyed that pest Naraku." Miyuki greeted her.
"It's nice to meet you as well, Milady, Lord Naoki speaks fondly of you, often" Kagome replied with a forced smile.
Miyuki carefully looked down at her outfit, masking her expression by raising her cup to sip some tea.
"I am currently Lord Sesshomaru's retainer, he kindly offered me some work during these hard times" Kagome went on to explain why she was dressed in Western colours.
"Yes, my brother reported to me that Jaken was handling Lady Rin's affairs this month. My condolences on your husband, InuYasha. After this month's festivities, where were you planning on going? There are nice patches of land in the North if you ever need some assistance" she offered lightly.
Kagome twitched in annoyance, she insulted her on purpose.
Lady Narumi could sense a fight coming so she intervened.
"Lady Miyuki, since you are already here, why don't I show you around the Fortress and introduce you to everyone" She offered.
" I would love that," she replied, smiling, and picking up her first course.
The conversation eased at that point as everyone began to eat.
Rin had been informed by Jaken that morning that Lady Miyuki was here on business with Lord Sesshomaru, with the intent of becoming the next Lady of the Western Lands. She knew Kagome had feelings for him as well and hoped that her father figure and she would realize their stubborn feelings for each other before the new lady won.
