Disclaimer: I do not own any of the works of InuYasha. It belongs to Rumiko Takahashi.

Prompt: Princess

Naoki awaited Kagome outside her rooms, the door shuffled lightly and Rikka emerged nodding toward him, then Kagome emerged behind her.

He usually had good control over his reactions but she had transformed into the most gorgeous creature he had ever set his eyes on.

She appeared slightly taller than normal but he barely noticed eyes roaming over her form, and landed on her petite face beneath the light makeup and the transformation of her hair into its elaborate updo.

"Good Evening Milord '' she greeted softly, smiling at him suddenly.

Smiling, for no worlds came to mind. He berated himself for keeping her waiting before finally answering her.

"Shall we?" he grasped for words while holding his arm out for her to take.

They strolled slowly towards the ballroom on the main floor when Kagome steered him into a hidden grotto, on the second-floor corridor.

The ball had started a few minutes before, guests were mingling and a few had glided onto the dancefloor as the castle;e musicians began a ballad. Narumi arrived alone and strives of demons glided over to greet her, accordingly. She adorned a black and white fan, greeting everyone as she made her way to the waiting area, awaiting the Western Princess and the lord of the fortress.

Sesshomaru and Miyuki arrived next, he had changed out of his normal informal attire for layers of stiff silk that made him appear more aristocratic and memorizing, a Lord of his status. His father Lord Togu had favoured red and blue tones more than the colours of the house which were blue and gold.

Miyuki had donned her family's ancestor's kimono and was impressive in her own right, it was forest green with golden flowers and cloud patterns, with undertones of lilac purples in her under kimono, and she wore a gold and black obi with dogs chasing amongst the clouds design. She had lovely wooden stick ornaments in her hair and wore some violet and green combs, finishing her appearance on her left side she wore some Sakura blossoms. Some makeup but more natural with her green eyes.

People flocked over to them as well, suspecting that she had gained Sesshoumaru's interest since he had "chosen" to personally escort her that night. Typical demon society gossip.

10 minutes later, a page announced that Rin had arrived and everyone looked over to watch her grand entrance. This was her night in the spotlight, and even though she was human and not Sesshomaru's biological child, she got to dress up and present herself as the first Western princess.

She of course was the most dressed to impress, which normally would be white and the western colours but Sesshomaru had allowed her to pick pink. A beautiful pink kimono, with white underneath and a blue and yellow themed obi with all the formal western designs. It had a strip pattern similar to her childhood orange and white checkered kimono that Sesshomaru had gotten when they first met. The flowers on the kimono throughout the design resemble Sesshoumaru's red flowers in a hexagon like in his usual day wear. She redecorated her hair in real blossoms surrounding a golden tiara/crown. She painted her face and had pink highlights around her brown eyes and red lips.

Rin walked elegantly, as instructed by Reiko and Jaken until she met Sesshomaru in the middle of the dance floor where he bowed to her and offered his hand.

The first dance was always the current Western lord's right, and he and Rin spun around to a lovely ballad. Dances with suitors followed.

Naoki squinted at Kagome's silhouette before he felt soft lips on his, by instinct he followed her lead. Moments passed and she pulled away. Lightly catching his breath he awaited her command.

"I'm sorry Milord but I had to be sure… I'm leading you on with no plans on allowing you to tread further." Kagome said sorrowfully.

"You're already in love with Lord Sesshomaru?" he asked the obvious, knowing she cared for him but he didn't appear in her life fast enough.

"Unfortunately… but it seems he doesn't feel the same… or I was too late in realizing my feelings…" she responded.

Naoki lightly grasped her hands in his.

"I think you are mistaken, Sesshoumaru hasn't had eyes for anyone but you as far as I can tell since I arrived. I'm sorry my sire is purposely meddling in Western affairs, but he wanted to ensure that we strengthened our alliance and well Milord is beyond the time expected to mate the next Western lady and produce the next heir for the next generation of Inu generals…"

Naoki apologizes, knowing she was referring to Sesshoumaru possibility of impregnating
Miyuki…

Kagome silently shook her head, knowing it wasn't his fault this happened.

"Listen, let's have a grand night, enjoy the festivities and afterwards, talk to him, figure out if he feels the same way or not. Kagome, you are far too stubborn you know." he chuckled while brushing her bangs back.

"And if that should fail?" she dared to ask her worst fear.

Naoki's eyes crinkled pleasantly.

"If Lord Sesshoumaru somehow doesn't feel the same way and you are officially rejected, I am here for you, as a dear friend, companion and anything else you may desire my lady" Naoki declared confidently.

"Thank you Naoki, you have been my greatest strength while you have been here." Kagome confided in him, feeling a bit better.

With that, they emerged from their hiding spot, strolling downstairs to the hall to join everyone in Rin's festival ball.

Jaken was furious… when he decided to check in with Rikka about Kagome's outfit for the ball, she had reported to him that she met with Ichika who adjusted a lovely lavender kimono she had on spare, she then reported borrowing hair ornaments from the Northern Lord and that she would be matching his colour and style-wise...

"Rikka-san! Lady Kagome is one of Milords' closest allies, how could you dress her to match Lord Naoki? Do you know anything? Should I be worried?" he asked her fretting about the consequences once Sesshoumaru found out and by that point, it would be too late to get her to change.

He huffed and reminded her that if she did something similar again, he would get someone else to serve the Lady. She giggled at him knowing his threats were empty, most of the time.

Since she was dismissed by Rin as her personal maid, Reiko had been reassigned to work with lower servants and to temporarily take care of the Eastern Lands guests, Lord Hideki and his people.

She was eating a snack while the lords and ladies attended Rin's special ball. Two other servants, Akari & Kaori entered the kitchens and sat slightly away from her but she could still overhear them, even though they talked super quietly.

"I heard from one of the new girls, Sara, that she was asked by Lady Miyuki to interfere in the ball, and embarrass Lady Kagome. Seems like she is threatened by the lowly Miko and thinks Sesshomaru-sama might be in love with her," Akari mentioned with a hasty tone.

"Like father, like son, they say. Lord Togu fell in love with a human, and had a Hanyou who happened to marry Lady Kagome, didn't he? What is it about humans? I mean like is it like the forbidden aspect that's appealing? I met a human lord once, who was quite handsome for a human but I would have never tried to be with him, I would have been banished and long-forgotten once he passed away. Their lifespan is so short compared to ours" Kaori replied, complaining about her experiences.

"Well, how did Lady Miyuki suggest that Sara "interfere"? There is tight security up there and they even are cooking all the meals in the smaller kitchen, less chance of food contamination, like anyone, would be dumb enough to try and poison one of the cardinal demon lords or their honourable guests." Akari asked with silent astonishment.

"She was asked personally to add powerful aphrodisiac to the Miko's goblet, so she would just embarrass herself, and then no one would support a food hardly relationship between the two if Milord tried and actually wooed her" Kaori responded laughing.

Reiko wanted to say something to the two, but they were only the messengers, so Lady Miyuki was wanting to get rid of Kagome? Rin would be so upset for something like that to happen. Going against her better judgement, she finished her meal before heading back upstairs… maybe she could find a way to warn them before misfortune happened.

Also, a good idea to report the mischief to Jaken, he seemed like he could use a stress buster after finding out about Kagome's evening attire and not representing the Western lands.

A/N: Happy Monday :) This is update 1 of 5. Awe I'm so excited for Rin, her day is here and she's gonna have fun tonight. Formal balls remind me of high school prom and I remember going to mine, which was so much fun to feel like a princess, course the next event in my life that was similar was my wedding… (No I'm not married any longer but a memory I won't forget even though I forgot my ex so long ago already) Also Sesshoumaru will regret no taking Kagome once he sees her lol. More coming tomorrow.

Sidenote: I have been living on Tumbrl this month, looking for inspiration for future stories as I have kept myself on a schedule. there is amass of other writers over three with so many ideas :) Also if you are into Naruto, I have written for the Ita/Saku fandom this month and have 7 new one-shot stories coming out at the end of the month. You can find me under ikanahime or Princess of Ikana. I have busted out just over 25'000 words this month so far working on several WIP's, I may need to take a break in September to recharge.
