Prompt: Formalities
Kagome's room was packed up with her few belongings and the staff moved her into Sesshoumaru's quarters as with her new rank. Narumi was absent from mealtimes since the morning where she had her outburst, this stressed Kagome out for she at least wanted to have an okay relationship with her new "Mother-in-law" but Sesshoumaru told her to be patient and give her some time and that she was still on their side but with the North, it made things quite complicated.
Jaken resumed his daily duties to Sesshoumaru, now that Rin was settled and having some personal bonding time with her mate to be this week before things would be finalized.
That morning Sesshoumaru and Kagome were sitting together eating their breakfast that Jaken had brought before he paused with his scrolls and stared at Kagome awaiting Sesshoumaru's input for she didn't know what it was going to entail being the new Western Lady.
"Jaken is waiting for you to assign your own personal assistant/ handmaiden, as your new rank entails, you will receive your own office quarters where you will need the help doing your duties. The duties of the Lady entail mainly the fortress caretaking, finances and letter relations with our neighbors. You are the one who normally arranges events here and if we need to be elsewhere attending important delegations with other cardinal lords/ladies. As you already know, my mother handles this on a part-time basis when I was unable to, for I took on both roles for so many years." he explained, summarizing her duties.
Kagome paused in amazement for she thought back to all the minimalist documents that Sesshoumaru tiredly wrote out in the evening hours and thought that he was doing much more than she thought a Lord would handle and now she knew that he was.
"Please assign Reiko-san to me, Jaken" She requested.
"As Milady requests" he replied before leaving.
Kagome requested that she be taught everything that there was to be his wife. Even with the difficult bits, she wanted to prove that she could handle it and have a chance of staying with his wife if things proved to become difficult soon.
Sesshoumaru told her that she would have probably have only a couple of weeks before they would receive word from the North.
With the help of Sesshoumaru and Reiko who was super grateful for the chance of becoming Kagome's right-hand lady. Everyone thought she was going to pick Rikka, but Kagome pointed out that while she did help her so far, she was technically the castle healer and couldn't be both full-time.
Rin was a bit cold when she found out that Kagome had picked her old maid, but couldn't say anything for she outranked her now. Plus in less than a week's time, they would be equals and Rin would have to then manage a new household, becoming the new Southern Lady.
Kagome pulled her aside after breakfast to talk about why Reiko did what she did and the frostiness melted.
Rin, teary-eyed, walked over to Reiko before they hugged and all was forgiven.
Kagome satisfied that that relationship was now patched, needed to figure out how to patch things over with Sesshoumaru's mother…
A/N: Awe Kagome is going to be an excellent lady. I couldn't leave poor Rin staying mad at Reiko for too long and well that's one little hurdle over with, more next week.
