Prompt: Obstinate

A few more days passed and no one had seen a speck of Lady Narumi that even some began to suspect that she had left and gone back to her palace in the sky.

Kagome began to see where certain traits came from, when she looked at Sesshomaru, she saw Narumi, but thought that he had inherited his father's way of being…. It was hard for her to compare because she never got the chance to meet the great Lord Toga. Sesshoumaru had definitely inherited his mother's stubbornness from what she now knew.

"You won't summon her? Even for me?" Kagome asked for the umpteenth time.

"It is not my place… As my new Lady it is now in your court, my dear" he replied once again.

"I have asked to see her and only received notices that she declines" Kagome responds dejectedly.

Sesshoumaru strokes her cheek softly before shaking his head.

"I know how kind and understanding you are, probably the humanity in you but you have to start thinking like a demoness if you want to prove your worth" Sesshoumaru told her as nicely as he could manage.

She knew he was right…

Kagome had gotten set up in her new office and was picking Reiko's brain for help.

"Do you think I should force her into a duel? Demon's like shows of physical power correct?" Kagome tried to think.

"Yes Milady, more so males though… A demoness is more impressed by one's cunning wit than physical attacks, unfortunately, I don't think you would be able to survive Lady Narumi's attacks if she got serious…" replied Reiko timidly.

"One's cunning wit… hmm so I must do something that will impress even her? That sounds like Miyuki's department…" Kagome muttered.

"She is an exceptional demoness for being a Lord's daughter".

"Yes, well that doesn't help me much," Kagome bemoaned.

Reiko pondered before coming up with something.

Reiko explained to Kagome that she should take on some of what Narumi did, like corresponding with other ladies, it would force her hand when questioned why a human took it over. She should swiftly inform the demon populace of her new position and make sure she had the oath of every demon in the fortress as a show of power.

Agreeing to try that method, Kagome sent out multiple correspondences and making her presence known throughout the fortress that she even was questioned by some of the lower nobles and demons who disagreed with humans being allowed to taint the great Inu line of the honourable Lord Toga. She held her own and forced them to acknowledge her power.

The day before Rin's mating ceremony, Narumi appeared from her seclusion and walked unannounced to Kagome's office. She dropped an opened scroll onto her desk and demanded to know what it was.

"Lady Narumi, it is merely my announcement to demon society that I am the new Lady of the Western Lands and Sesshoumaru's new mate," Kagome said evenly holding her position and not withering towards her mother in law who's aura picked up and she was mad.

"It is my right and if you have any qualms then please present them, if you haven't seen them already but I have gained the acceptance of every demon here this week" Kagome continued staring directly into her eyes.

Aura calming. Narumi huffed, annoyed.

"I accept Sesshoumaru's choice" she finally relented.

Before Kagome could smile or give a sigh of relief, she continued.

"Under the condition… that I train you myself, hmph Reiko forgot to teach you crucial traits when it comes to penmanship … Milady" she finished.

"Of course Lady Mother, please take me into your tutelage" replied Kagome smiling now.

"The first lesson… don't smile unless it's for a purpose. Court ladies are unforgiving" Narumi directed as Kagome fluttered.

A/N: hmm I may need to agree to add more words than I promised. 500 isn't enough to say what I need per chapter… ok some chapters may have a bit more words as needed. I'm still unwilling to write normal-sized bits as I may not have enough to fit if I were to promise full-size ones… ah word limits, but I work around it.
