Prompt: I Do
Another gruelling evening was finally over once Kagome reappeared in her new chambers, Sesshoumaru was lounging reading some smaller scrolls as she plopped down beside him, sighing.
"Giving up already?" He asked, in a joking manner, like he had heard her say once.
Perking up at the attempt at a joke. She shook her head.
"No, I'm just releasing all my built-up tension from trying so hard," she explained, reaching the nearby tea.
Sesshoumaru kissed her temple and praised her honourable efforts.
Before they knew it, morning arrived and Reiko and Jaken appeared together, slightly before dawn to help the both of them prepare for the day ahead.
Today Rin would be ceremonially bonded to Lord Itsuki and they would later consummate and she would receive his mark as his new mate… formalities were in order and they needed to be dressed up for the occasion.
Sesshomaru stared dismally at having to get back into his stuffy/uncomfortable attire and Kagome was awed in how beautiful the formal outfit of her role was, it was very similar to what she wore back at the ball and even closer to what Miyuki wore but this time it was in Western colours.
Sesshoumaru had insisted on the addition of butterfly patterns into the fabric for nostalgic purposes, his mother wore butterflies, Rin was fond of them and he remembered that time the moth demons from the mainland attacked the region and they were destroyed by Kagome, InuYasha and the rest of the gang.
"Milady, how do you feel about promoting moon's and butterflies as our official signature?" he asked her as she got her makeup done and her hair styled into a complex updo.
"I think that would be pretty" she responded, unsure if that's what he meant.
Sesshoumaru made a note and handed it to Jaken before waving him away.
As a final flourish, Sesshoumaru added a spring of yellow blossoms, among her hair and surrounding her delicate hairpiece.
Stepping back he could only stare at her beauty.
"Yes, you look even more perfect in Western attire compared to the gaudy North" he commented dully Kagome giggled before reminding him not to say that to Naoki or his father.
Rin and Itsuki were awaiting them when they entered the hall, walking together. Narumi bowed to the both of them in a sign of acceptance and everyone followed. Lastly, Rin bowed, Itsuki, being of the same rank, only nodded slightly to them.
A local miko in the nearby village was granted asylum at the beginning of the month to ensure her attendance and she began the ritual.
Hands clasped together, she tied a red string between them.
On the sidelines, Kagome watched closely as she was curious as to what she had technically skipped when she made the hasty decision to just become Sesshoumaru's chosen mate.
Knowing she must have felt some resemblance of forlorn as humans seemed to cherish their flourish of rites of passage… he wrapped his hand around hers and squeezed, hoping she would know he wished they could have had the time to court properly. She squeezed back and laid her head on his shoulder.
Rin was escorted away back to their guest chambers in the eastern wing with Itsuki to "Finish" the formalities and everyone went back to their regular duties.
It was later when Kagome caught Sesshoumaru wince for the ninth time that she told him she was grateful for her inferior hearing. In order to distract him from "hearing" the confirmations of his daughter's done deed, she crawled into his lap, proposing they have their own fun and indulgence.
A/N: and Rin is officially "married" yay! Kagome manages to gain everyone's acceptance, near and dear to her, now onto the next problem...
